• System.Diaganostics.Process.Id Isn't the Same Process Id Shown in Task Manger. Why?

  I'm using c#'s System.Diagnostic.Process object. One of its properties is Id. The Id this produces is not the same as the PID, shown in Windows Task Manager. Why is this? You see, once this process is started. It launches two other unmanaged processes, for which I can't explicitly get IDs for by object property references. I have to search through all processes to find them by process name via System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcesses(). I'm trying to find a reliable way to kill this process and all associated processes by PID, the one that shows in Task Manager. Is there a better way? I can't just kill all processes with the associated process names, because that might kill other instances of those processes that have nothing to do with my program.

• HttpTransportSE requestDump gives NullPointerException

  Hi, I'm trying to access a webservice in Android via Ksoap2 for android. The SoapObject is created ok, the S.o.p of the bodyOut outputs the desired strings. But when I do a requestDump of the HttpTransportSE object I create to make the call, a NullPointerException happens. In other words, the transport object is null. How can this happen?   Hi, In my program, I'm grep-ing via NSTask. For some reason, sometimes I would get no results (even though the code was apparently the same as the command run from the CLI which worked just fine), so I checked through my code and found, in Apple's documentation, that when adding arguments to an NSTask object, "the NSTask object converts both path and the strings in arguments to appropriate C-style strings (using fileSystemRepresentation) before passing them to the task via argv[]" (snip). The problem is that I might grep terms like "Río Gallegos". Sadly (as I checked with fileSystemRepresentation), that undergoes the conversion and turns out to be "RiÃÅo Gallegos". • Marshal a list of objects from VB6 to C#

  I have a development which requires the passing of objects between a VB6 application and a C# class library. The objects are defined in the C# class library and are used as parameters for methods exposed by other classes in the same library. The objects all contain simple string/numeric properties and so marshaling has been relatively painless. We now have a requirement to pass an object which contains a list of other objects. If I was coding this in VB6 I might have a class containing a collection as a member variable. In C# I might have a class with a List member variable. Is it possible to construct a C# class in such a way that the VB6 application could populate this inner list and marshal it successfully? I don't have a lot of experience here but I would guess Id have to use an array of Object types.

  We want to get a row from a table using Hibernate a la: select max(id) from mytable where date = <date> Then select * from mytable where id = <max_id> We are currently using Hibernate to map mytable to Java domain objects. I know how to load the domain object based on an id. So I could just do #1 using JDBC and then load the domain object using Hibernate the "normal" way. But.. is there a way to do this with one single Hibernate logical query?

The list of objects is a property in the codebehind file in the format list<object> When i add one object programatically, it appears fine. But when i try to bind the ItemSource of the ListBox to the list of objects, nothing shows up. This way I can just use one global timer in my script to execute all actions at a certain interval rather than wasting resources by using multiples. • Using Excel VBA to send emails. Problem with attachments becoming embedded by accident.

  Hi, I am having an issue with an Excel macro I wrote that is used by several users within my company. It is used to send numerous emails daily with attachments that are also Excel workbooks. The issue is that sometimes, instead of the file simply being attached as it should be, it becomes an embedded object. This embedded object is openable by users on the email within the company (after clicking through the "YOu are about to activate an embedded object that may contain viruses or be otherwise harmful to your computer. It is important to be certain that it is from a trustworthy source. Do you want to continue?"), but those outside of the company do not see it at all. The email appears to have no attachment at all. Curiously, this appears to happen randomly, and only on some computers. So if the list has 15 email lists and attachments, it seems to happen randomly to anywhere between 0 and 15 of the emails. To be clear, my objective is to send emails with regular attachments. Running Excel 2003, Outlook 2003, and Windows XP. See code below. Please help! • Will this safely delete my record?

  I hate these three tables that. Two tables have a many to many relationship and as such it generates a third table. I'm using Linq-to-SQL and in the .dbml file I've dragged all the folder there to the graphic surface. Here is the method I'm using to delete an Area safely.   Hi, how do I test the state of my proxy before making calls to my WCF service. I have a duplex channel created using a duplex channel factory. Before making any calls to the server I want to check the state of the proxy object created from the channel factory. I saw this in a book... (to be used in immediate window) ? ((ICommunicationObject)flsProxy).State But it gave this exception... Cannot obtain fields or call methods on the instance of type 'System.ServiceModel.ICommunicationObject' because it is a proxy to a remote object. Would be grateful for any ideas how this can be tested, or is it better to just catch exceptions. Thanks.

• SQL Select Permissions

  I have a database that I need to connect to and select from. I have an SQL Login, let's call it myusername. When I use the following, no SELECT permission shows up: SELECT * FROM fn_my_permissions ('dbo.mytable', 'OBJECT') GO Several times I tried things like: USE mydatabase GO GRANT SELECT TO myusername GO GRANT SELECT ON DATABASE::mydatabase TO myusername GO GRANT SELECT ON mytable TO myusername GO It says the queries execute successfully, but there is never any difference in the first query. What simple thing am I missing to grant database level select permissions. As a note, I made double sure it was the correct user, correct database, and I have already tried granting table level select permissions. So far I keep getting the error: SELECT permission denied on object 'mytable', database 'mydatabase', schema 'dbo'. Any ideas what I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

  Can anyone recommend an efficient way of determining whether a BigDecimal is an integer value in the mathematical sense? At present I have the following code: private boolean isIntegerValue(BigDecimal bd) { boolean ret; try { bd.toBigIntegerExact(); ret = true; } catch (ArithmeticException ex) { ret = false; } return ret; } ... but would like to avoid the object creation overhead if necessary. Previously I was using bd.longValueExact() which would avoid creating an object if the BigDecimal was using its compact representation internally, but obviously would fail if the value was too big to fit into a long. Any help appreciated.

  So, I'd like to implement my own custom authorization system in MVC2. If I'd have to create a global class, where do I instantiate it? Can HttpContext be extended with my own additions and where do I do that? Should I use Authorization filters for rights validation or ActionFilters or do it within an action? Can ActionFilter pass any data to the action itself? Previously (in WebForms) I was using a Session object where I would put a serialized object containing essential user data (account id and a list of roles and rights) and I'd extend my own Page class.

• Is it Pythonic to have a class keep track of its instances?

  Take the following code snippet class Missile: instances = [] def __init__(self): Missile.instances.append(self) Now take the code: class Hero(): ... def fire(self): Missile() When the hero fires, a missile needs to be created and appended to the main list. Thus the hero object needs to reference the list when it fires. Here are a few solutions, although I'm sure there are others: Make the list a global, Use a class variable (as above), or Have the hero object hold a reference to the list. I didn't post this on gamedev because my question is actually more general: Is the previous code considered okay? Given a situation like this, is there a more Pythonic solution?
