  • How is the 'is' keyword implemented in Python?

    - by Srikanth
    ... the is keyword that can be used for equality in strings. >>> s = 'str' >>> s is 'str' True >>> s is 'st' False I tried both __is__() and __eq__() but they didn't work. >>> class MyString: ... def __init__(self): ... self.s = 'string' ... def __is__(self, s): ... return self.s == s ... >>> >>> >>> m = MyString() >>> m is 'ss' False >>> m is 'string' # <--- Expected to work False >>> >>> class MyString: ... def __init__(self): ... self.s = 'string' ... def __eq__(self, s): ... return self.s == s ... >>> >>> m = MyString() >>> m is 'ss' False >>> m is 'string' # <--- Expected to work, but again failed False >>> Thanks for your help!

  • Proper use of the IDisposable interface

    - by cwick
    I know from reading the MSDN documentation that the "primary" use of the IDisposable interface is to clean up unmanaged resources http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.idisposable.aspx. To me, "unmanaged" means things like database connections, sockets, window handles, etc. But, I've seen code where the Dispose method is implemented to free managed resources, which seems redundant to me, since the garbage collector should take care of that for you. For example: public class MyCollection : IDisposable { private List<String> _theList = new List<String>(); private Dictionary<String, Point> _theDict = new Dictionary<String, Point>(); // Die, you gravy sucking pig dog! public void Dispose() { _theList.clear(); _theDict.clear(); _theList = null; _theDict = null; } My question is, does this make the garbage collector free memory used by MyCollection any faster than it normally would? edit: So far people have posted some good examples of using IDisposable to clean up unmanaged resources such as database connections and bitmaps. But suppose that _theList in the above code contained a million strings, and you wanted to free that memory now, rather than waiting for the garbage collector. Would the above code accomplish that?

  • Serialize XML child and keep namespaces in Java

    - by Guido García
    I have an Document object that is modeling a XML like this one: <RootNode xmlns="http://a.com/a" xmlns:b="http://b.com/b"> <Child /> </RootNode> Using Java DOM, I need to get the <Child> node and serialize it to XML, but keeping the root node namespaces. This is what I currently have, but it does not serialize the namespaces: public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { String xml = "<RootNode xmlns='http://a.com/a' xmlns:b='http://b.com/b'><Child /></RootNode>"; DocumentBuilder builder = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance().newDocumentBuilder(); Document doc = builder.parse(new ByteArrayInputStream(xml.getBytes())); Node childNode = doc.getFirstChild().getFirstChild(); // serialize to string StringWriter sw = new StringWriter(); DOMSource domSource = new DOMSource(childNode); StreamResult streamResult = new StreamResult(sw); TransformerFactory tf = TransformerFactory.newInstance(); Transformer serializer = tf.newTransformer(); serializer.transform(domSource, streamResult); String serializedXML = sw.toString(); System.out.println(serializedXML); } Current output: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <Child/> Expected output: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <Child xmlns='http://a.com/a' xmlns:b='http://b.com/b' />

  • [C#] How can we differentiate between SDK class objects and custom class objects?

    - by Nayan
    To give an idea of my requirement, consider these classes - class A { } class B { string m_sName; public string Name { get { return m_sName; } set { m_sName = value; } } int m_iVal; public int Val { get { return m_iVal; } set { m_iVal = value; } } A m_objA; public A AObject { get { return m_objA; } set { m_objA = value; } } } Now, I need to identify the classes of the objects passed to a function void MyFunc(object obj) { Type type = obj.GetType(); foreach (PropertyInfo pi in type.GetProperties()) { if (pi.PropertyType.IsClass) { //I need objects only if (!type.IsGenericType && type.FullName.ToLower() == "system.string") { object _obj = pi.GetValue(obj, null); //do something } } } } I don't like this piece of code - if (!type.IsGenericType && type.FullName.ToLower() == "system.string") { because then i have to filter out classes like, System.Int16, System.Int32, System.Boolean and so on. Is there an elegant way through which I can find out if the object is of a class defined by me and not of system provided basic classes?

  • Maintaining Selected Row of the DataGridView Control after refreshing Data

    - by user575219
    I am trying to Maintain Selected Row of the DataGridView Control after refreshing Data. This is my code public partial class frmPlant : Form { string gSelectedPlant; private void frmPlant_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { dataGridView1.AutoGenerateColumns = true; dataGridView1.DataSource = bindingSource1; FillData(); dataGridView1.DataMember = "Table"; } private void FillData() { ds = _DbConnection.returnDataSet(_SQlQueries.SQL_PlantSelect); bindingSource1.DataSource = ds.Tables[0]; } public DataSet returnDataSet(string txtQuery) { conn.Open(); sqlCommand = conn.CreateCommand(); DB = new SQLiteDataAdapter(txtQuery, conn); DS.Reset(); DB.Fill(DS); conn.Close(); return (DS); } private void dataGridView1_Selectionchanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (dataGridView1.SelectedRows.Count > 0) { gSelectedPlant = dataGridView1.SelectedRows[0].Cells["PlantId"].Value.ToString(); } } private void dataGridView1_DataBindingComplete(object sender, DataGridViewBindingCompleteEventArgs e) { int selectedIndex; if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(gSelectedPlant) && e.ListChangedType == ListChangedType.Reset) { if (ds.Tables.Count > 0) { selectedIndex = bindingSource1.Find("PlantId", gSelectedPlant); if (selectedIndex <= 0) selectedIndex = 0; dataGridView1.Rows[selectedIndex].Selected = true; } else { gSelectedPlant = string.Empty; } } } } It is still not able to maintain the rowindex of the selected row. It scrolls to row1. Here's the blog I used http://www.makhaly.net/Blog/9 Suppose, I select a row on Form1(where all this code is) and go on the next form, which shows me detailed info abt the particular Plant . If I come back to this first form again,by pressing the back button, the row is reset to 1. gSelectedPlant takes a value 1 and selectedindex = 0. This makes sense but I am not yet able to figure out how to maintain the value of gSelectedPlant. Yes it takes a null intitally but on databindingcomplete it becomes 1.

  • Learning Hibernate: too many connections

    - by stivlo
    I'm trying to learn Hibernate and I wrote the simplest Person Entity and I was trying to insert 2000 of them. I know I'm using deprecated methods, I will try to figure out what are the new ones later. First, here is the class Person: @Entity public class Person { private int id; private String name; @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.TABLE, generator = "person") @TableGenerator(name = "person", table = "sequences", allocationSize = 1) public int getId() { return id; } public void setId(int id) { this.id = id; } public String getName() { return name; } public void setName(String name) { this.name = name; } } Then I wrote a small App class that insert 2000 entities with a loop: public class App { private static AnnotationConfiguration config; public static void insertPerson() { SessionFactory factory = config.buildSessionFactory(); Session session = factory.getCurrentSession(); session.beginTransaction(); Person aPerson = new Person(); aPerson.setName("John"); session.save(aPerson); session.getTransaction().commit(); } public static void main(String[] args) { config = new AnnotationConfiguration(); config.addAnnotatedClass(Person.class); config.configure("hibernate.cfg.xml"); //is the default already new SchemaExport(config).create(true, true); //print and execute for (int i = 0; i < 2000; i++) { insertPerson(); } } } What I get after a while is: Exception in thread "main" org.hibernate.exception.JDBCConnectionException: Cannot open connection Caused by: com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLNonTransientConnectionException: Too many connections Now I know that probably if I put the transaction outside the loop it would work, but mine was a test to see what happens when executing multiple transactions. And since there is only one open at each time, it should work. I tried to add session.close() after the commit, but I got Exception in thread "main" org.hibernate.SessionException: Session was already closed So how to solve the problem?

  • obj-c problem setting array with componentsSeperatedByString

    - by Brodie4598
    I have a data source with about 2000 lines that look like the following: 6712,Anaktuvuk Pass Airport,Anaktuvuk Pass,United States,AKP,PAKP,68.1336,-151.743,2103,-9,A What I am interested in is the 6th section of this string so I want to turn it into an array, then i want to check the 6th section [5] for an occurrance of that string "PAKP" Code: NSBundle *bundle = [NSBundle mainBundle]; NSString *airportsPath = [bundle pathForResource:@"airports" ofType:@"dat"]; NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:airportsPath]; NSString *dataString = [[[NSString alloc] initWithData:data encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding] autorelease]; NSArray *dataArray = [dataString componentsSeparatedByString:@"\n"]; NSRange locationOfAirport; NSString *workingString = [[NSString alloc]initWithFormat:@""]; NSString *searchedAirport = [[NSString alloc]initWithFormat:@""]; NSString *airportData = [[NSString alloc]initWithFormat:@""]; int d; for (d=0; d < [dataArray count]; d=d+1) { workingString = [dataArray objectAtIndex:d]; testTextBox = workingString; //works correctly NSArray *workingArray = [workingString componentsSeparatedByString:@","]; testTextBox2 = [workingArray objectAtIndex: 0]; //correctly displays the first section "6712" testTextBox3 = [workingArray objectAtIndex:1] //throws exception index beyond bounds locationOfAirport = [[workingArray objectAtIndex:5] rangeOfString:@"PAKP"]; } the problem is that when the workingArray populates, it only populates with a single object (the first component of the string which is "6712". If i have it display the workingString, it correctly displays the entire string, but for some reason, it isn't correctly making the array using the commas. i tried it without using the data file and it worked fine, so the problem comes from how I am importing the data. ideas?

  • JPA - Performance with using multiple entity manager

    - by Nguyen Tuan Linh
    My situation is: The code is not mine I have two kinds of database: one is Dad, one is Son. In Dad, I have a table to store JNDI name. I will look up Dad using JNDI, create entity manager, and retrieve this table. From these retrieved JNDI names, I will create multiple entity managers using multiple Son databases. The problem is: Son have thousands of entities. It takes each Son database around 10 minutes to load all entities. If there is 4 Son databases, it will be 40 minutes. My question: Is there any way to load all entities and use them for all entity manager? Please look at the code below For each Son JNDI: Map<String, String> puSonProperties = new HashMap<String, String>(); puSonProperties.put("javax.persistence.jtaDataSource", sonJndi); EntityManagerFactory emf = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("PUSon", puSonProperties); PUSon - All of them use the same persistence unit log.info("Verify entity manager for son: {0} - {1}", sonCode, emSon.find(Son_configuration.class, 0) != null ? "ok" : "failed!"); This is the actual code where the loading of all entities begins. 10 mins.

  • NHibernate.MappingException - Troubles Shooting Checklist (no persister for)

    - by Berryl
    Here's a starter list: 1) if hbm is hand generated, is it an embedded resource? 2) if using FNH, does it pass a PerssistenceSpecification test? 3) if not using FNH, can you save and then load the persisted class? 4) more? I'm sure many of you have gotten this one at one point or another. But have you ever gotten it when you knew your mapping was set up correctly? I started getting this exception after I started using a new repository design, but only in one scenario! PersistenceSpecification tests pass, as do all repository methods (using SQLite). The scenario that leads to the exception is when legacy projects from a different db are converted to green field system. The legacy system is from a different database and has it's own session factory, which should be irrelevant because the error comes after previously unconverted Projects are retrieved and in memory. As the routine tries to save these unconverted Projects into the new database, the exception is thrown, full stack trace below. Any ideas on how to build up the trouble shooting check list and solves this problem? • ASP.NET lock thread method

    - by Peter
    Hello, I'm developing an ASP.NET forms webapplication using C#. I have a method which creates a new Order for a customer. It looks similar to this; private string CreateOrder(string userName) { // Fetch current order Order order = FetchOrder(userName); if (order.OrderId == 0) { // Has no order yet, create a new one order.OrderNumber = Utility.GenerateOrderNumber(); order.Save(); } return order; } The problem here is, it is possible that 1 customer in two requests (threads) could cause this method to be called twice while another thread is also inside this method. This can cause two orders to be created. How can I properly lock this method, so it can only be executed by one thread at a time per customer? I tried; Mutex mutex = null; private string CreateOrder(string userName) { if (mutex == null) { mutex = new Mutex(true, userName); } mutex.WaitOne(); // Code from above mutex.ReleaseMutex(); mutex = null; return order; } This works, but on some occasions it hangs on WaitOne and I don't know why. Is there an error, or should I use another method to lock? Thanks

  • Extension methods conflict

    - by Yochai Timmer
    Lets say I have 2 extension methods to string, in 2 different namespaces: namespace test1 { public static class MyExtensions { public static int TestMethod(this String str) { return 1; } } } namespace test2 { public static class MyExtensions2 { public static int TestMethod(this String str) { return 2; } } } These methods are just for example, they don't really do anything. Now lets consider this piece of code: using System; using test1; using test2; namespace blah { public static class Blah { public Blah() { string a = "test"; int i = a.TestMethod(); //Which one is chosen ? } } } I know that only one of the extension methods will be chosen. Which one will it be ? and why ? How can I choose a certain method from a certain namespace ? Edit: Usually I'd use Namespace.ClassNAME.Method() ... But that just beats the whole idea of extension methods. And I don't think you can use Variable.Namespace.Method()

  • Why This Maintainability Index Increase?

    - by Timothy
    I would be appreciative if someone could explain to me the difference between the following two pieces of code in terms of Visual Studio's Code Metrics rules. Why does the Maintainability Index increase slightly if I don't encapsulate everything within using ( )? Sample 1 (MI score of 71) public static String Sha1(String plainText) { using (SHA1Managed sha1 = new SHA1Managed()) { Byte[] text = Encoding.Unicode.GetBytes(plainText); Byte[] hashBytes = sha1.ComputeHash(text); return Convert.ToBase64String(hashBytes); } } Sample 2 (MI score of 73) public static String Sha1(String plainText) { Byte[] text, hashBytes; using (SHA1Managed sha1 = new SHA1Managed()) { text = Encoding.Unicode.GetBytes(plainText); hashBytes = sha1.ComputeHash(text); } return Convert.ToBase64String(hashBytes); } I understand metrics are meaningless outside of a broader context and understanding, and programmers should exercise discretion. While I could boost the score up to 76 with return Convert.ToBase64String(sha1.ComputeHash(Encoding.Unicode.GetBytes(plainText))), I shouldn't. I would clearly be just playing with numbers and it isn't truly any more readable or maintainable at that point. I am curious though as to what the logic might be behind the increase in this case. It's obviously not line-count.

  • EOL Special Char not matching

    - by Aurélien Ribon
    Hello, I am trying to find every "a - b, c, d" pattern in an input string. The pattern I am using is the following : "^[ \t]*(\\w+)[ \t]*->[ \t]*(\\w+)((?:,[ \t]*\\w+)*)$" This pattern is a C# pattern, the "\t" refers to a tabulation (its a single escaped litteral, intepreted by the .NET String API), the "\w" refers to the well know regex litteral predefined class, double escaped to be interpreted as a "\w" by the .NET STring API, and then as a "WORD CLASS" by the .NET Regex API. The input is : a -> b b -> c c -> d The function is : private void ParseAndBuildGraph(String input) { MatchCollection mc = Regex.Matches(input, "^[ \t]*(\\w+)[ \t]*->[ \t]*(\\w+)((?:,[ \t]*\\w+)*)$", RegexOptions.Multiline); foreach (Match m in mc) { Debug.WriteLine(m.Value); } } The output is : c -> d Actually, there is a problem with the line ending "$" special char. If I insert a "\r" before "$", it works, but I thought "$" would match any line termination (with the Multiline option), especially a \r\n in a Windows environment. Is it not the case ?

  • What is the difference between using MD5.Create and MD5CryptoServiceProvider?

    - by byte
    In the .NET framework there are a couple of ways to calculate an MD5 hash it seems, however there is something I don't understand; What is the distinction between the following? What sets them apart from eachother? They seem to product identical results: public static string GetMD5Hash(string str) { MD5CryptoServiceProvider md5 = new MD5CryptoServiceProvider(); byte[] bytes = ASCIIEncoding.Default.GetBytes(str); byte[] encoded = md5.ComputeHash(bytes); StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); for (int i = 0; i < encoded.Length; i++) sb.Append(encoded[i].ToString("x2")); return sb.ToString(); } public static string GetMD5Hash2(string str) { System.Security.Cryptography.MD5 md5 = System.Security.Cryptography.MD5.Create(); byte[] bytes = Encoding.Default.GetBytes(str); byte[] encoded = md5.ComputeHash(bytes); StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); for (int i = 0; i < encoded.Length; i++) sb.Append(encoded[i].ToString("x2")); return sb.ToString(); }

  • Datatable add new column and values speed issue

    - by Cine
    I am having some speed issue with my datatables. In this particular case I am using it as holder of data, it is never used in GUI or any other scenario that actually uses any of the fancy features. In my speed trace, this particular constructor was showing up as a heavy user of time when my database is ~40k rows. The main user was set_Item of DataTable. protected myclass(DataTable dataTable, DataColumn idColumn) { this.dataTable = dataTable; IdColumn = idColumn ?? this.dataTable.Columns.Add(string.Format("SYS_{0}_SYS", Guid.NewGuid()), Type.GetType("System.Int32")); JobIdColumn = this.dataTable.Columns.Add(string.Format("SYS_{0}_SYS", Guid.NewGuid()), Type.GetType("System.Int32")); IsNewColumn = this.dataTable.Columns.Add(string.Format("SYS_{0}_SYS", Guid.NewGuid()), Type.GetType("System.Int32")); int id = 1; foreach (DataRow r in this.dataTable.Rows) { r[JobIdColumn] = id++; r[IsNewColumn] = (r[IdColumn] == null || r[IdColumn].ToString() == string.Empty) ? 1 : 0; } Digging deeper into the trace, it turns out that set_Item calls EndEdit, which brings my thoughts to the transaction support of the DataTable, for which I have no usage for in my scenario. So my solution to this was to open editing on all of the rows and never close them again. _dt.BeginLoadData(); foreach (DataRow row in _dt.Rows) row.BeginEdit(); Is there a better solution? This feels too much like a big giant hack that will eventually come and bite me. You might suggest that I dont use DataTable at all, but I have already considered that and rejected it due to the amount of effort that would be required to reimplement with a custom class. The main reason it is a datatable is that it is ancient code (.net 1.1 time) and I dont want to spend that much time changing it, and it is also because the original table comes out of a third party component.

  • can a OOM be caused by not finding enough contiguous memory?

    - by raticulin
    I start some java code with -Xmx1024m, and at some point I get an hprof due to OOM. The hprof shows just 320mb, and give me a stack trace: at java.util.Arrays.copyOfRange([CII)[C (Arrays.java:3209) at java.lang.String.<init>([CII)V (String.java:215) at java.lang.StringBuilder.toString()Ljava/lang/String; (StringBuilder.java:430) ... This comes from a large string I am copying. I remember reading somewhere (cannot find where) what happened is these cases is: process still has not consumed 1gb of memory, is way below even if heap still below 1gb, it needs some amount of memory, and for copyOfRange() it has to be continuous memory, so even if it is not over the limit yet, it cannot find a large enough piece of memory on the host, it fails with an OOM. I have tried to look for doc on this (copyOfRange() needs a block of continuous memory), but could not find any. The other possible culprit would be not enough permgen memory. Can someone confirm or refute the continuous memory hypothesis? Any pointer to some doc would help too.

  • .NET RichTextBox: unable to change Rtf property.

    - by Dave
    Hey guys, Perhaps I'm missing something real simple here, but I've been struggling to change the RTF property of my RichTextBox in order to apply some color coding to my text. Probably the most straight-forward example of the problem I'm having is setting the Rtf property to include a color table in its header. The default RTF string returned by the Rtf property: {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang1033{\fonttbl{\f0\fnil\fcharset0 Microsoft Sans Serif;}}\viewkind4\uc1\pard\f0\fs17\par} And the new RTF string I'd like to set with my color table: {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang1033{\fonttbl{\f0\fnil\fcharset0 Microsoft Sans Serif;}{\colortbl;\red128\green0\blue0;\red0\green128\blue0;\red0\green0\blue255;}}\viewkind4\uc1\pard\f0\fs17\par} And I set this using: RichTextBox richTextBox = new RichTextBox(); richTextBox.Rtf = rtfStr; // My new RTF string, as seen above. However, via debugger, it can be observed the that Rtf property stubbornly refuses to change; no exceptions are thrown, it just refuses to change. Same issue happens when I string.Replace() words to include RTF color tags around them. I've also tried turning off any ReadOnly properties on the text box. Any suggestions would be most helpful, thanks! Dave
