• How do I completely turn off Excel 2010 autoformatting?

  I am using a lot of csv files at work with excel 2010. These have no formatting so Excel 2010 autoformats all the cells. I've found workarounds but the ones I have found require action for each file or each cell (i.e. adding a single quote). My current workaround is using the "show formulas" option under formula auditing in the formulas tab. This seems to show the raw data (since they are just csv files there aren't formulas). If I could just keep this active so I don't have to turn it on.

• Detect modification of variable at runtime in C/C++

  Hello, I am developing a library in C++ where users/programmer will extend a class BaseClass that has a method initArray. This method should be implemented by the user/programmer and it should normally initialize all elements of the array m_arr. Here is a snipplet, modified to this example: class BaseClass { public: BaseClass(int n) { m_arr = new double[n]; size = n; }; virtual ~BaseClass(); int size; double* m_arr; virtual int initArray(); }; Sometimes, the user/programmer implements a initArray that does not initialize some elements of m_arr. What I would like is to create a function in my library that checks if initArray did initialize all elements of m_arr. This function should be called by a sanity-check rutine at runtime. My question: is it possible to detect changes on this array? I can only think of initializing the array with some invalid values (like NaN or Inf), call initArray and check that all values have changed. Thanks for your ideas, David

  Suppose I have a matrix of size 100x100 and I would like to compare each pixel to its direct neighbor (left, upper, right, lower) and then do some operations on the current matrix or a new one of the same size.   I'm not exactly the most tech savy so please bear with me. I am trying to connect through a proxy with my Virtualbox accounts. Initially I wanted to just set the browsers in each virtualbox under a proxy but my boss said that it can probably be done right off the bat under the virtualbox accounts itself. Could anyone guide me on how to do this? All the instructions online state that their should be a proxy setting in preferences however all I see is a Network Adapter tab. Thanks!

• Is there a way to disable beeps in chm browser and what's causing them?

  When browsing a .chm file, in search tab, when I click on each result I get a beep. I don't think there should be a beep every time I click on a search result. In any case, I'd like to just disable them. I know there is a way to disable the beeps system-wide, but I don't require that. It's not the "Start navigation" sound like used in Internet Explorer. This is truly a beep, like the one resulting when the pc is not responding, and one keeps pressing various keys on the keyboard, with each key press generating a beep. Besides, I have the windows "no sounds" scheme, meaning there shouldn't be event driven sounds.

  I would like to create bipartite networks in R. For example, if you have a data.frame of two types of species (that can only interact across species, not within species), and each species has a trait value (e.g., size of mouth in the predator allows who gets to eat which prey species), how do we simulate a network based on the traits of the species (that is, two species can only interact if their traits overlap in values for instance)?   I have Windows Professional x64 with two sound cards. for many months these cards (and the all sound system) was working fine. Suddenly my System (my PC) stops having sound. from WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYERS and for any other media players The default sounds from windows are working fine but I don't have sounds from media players. Also I open the "Sounds And Audio Device Properties" and in "Volume"Tab I press "Advance". There I receive an error "DirectSoundSetting not available". I have already Uninstall and re install my sound cards... But Nothing. Did anyone knows where the problem is?

• Creating and parsing huge strings with javascript?

  Hi, I have a simple piece of data that I'm storing on a server, as a plain string. It is kind of ridiculous, but it looks like this: name|date|grade|description|name|date|grade|description|repeat for a long time this string can be up to 1.4mb in size. The idea is that it's a bunch of student records, just strung together with a simple pipe delimeter. It's a very poor serialization method. Once this massive string is pushed to the client, it is split along the pipes into student records again, using javascript. I've been timing how long it takes to create, and split, these strings on the client side. The times are actually quite good, the slowest run I've seen on a few different machines is 0.2 seconds for 10,000 'student records', which has a final string size of ~1.4mb. I realize this is quite bizarre, just wondering if there are any inherent problems with creating and splitting such large strings using javascript? I don't know how different browsers implement their javascript engines. I've tried this on the 'major' browsers, but don't know how this would perform on earlier versions of each. • Exchange 2010 Prevent Authenticated Users From Sending Email From Any Address

  I have recently been combating an SMTP AUTH attack in which one of my email accounts had been compromised and was being used to solicit spam. I have been able to identify the account and change the password however I would like to further restrict my exchange server. By default exchange 2010 allows for any authenticated user to specify any email address as the MAIL FROM address and it will accept it. Is there any way to restrict this so that only the authenticated account's email address will be able to be used as the MAIL FROM address? I have been looking through all ADPermissions for the SMTP connector however I can't find any documentation on how to accomplish this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. • Google calendar query returns at most 25 entries

  I'm trying to delete all calendar entries from today forward. I run a query then call getEntries() on the query result. getEntries() always returns 25 entries (or less if there are fewer than 25 entries on the calendar). Why aren't all the entries returned? I'm expecting about 80 entries. As a test, I tried running the query, deleting the 25 entries returned, running the query again, deleting again, etc. This works, but there must be a better way. Below is the Java code that only runs the query once.   I am searching a 2D matrix (or bitmap) class which is flexible but also fast element access. The first solution does not do this. However this is not very flexible anymore, as you can't change the size anymore at runtime. So my question is: Is there a possibility to tell the compiler to generate faster code (like when using the template solution), when the size in the code is fixed and generate flexible code when its runtime dependend? I tried to achieve this by writing "const" where ever possible. I tried it with gcc and VS2005, but no success. This kind of optimization would be useful for many other similar cases.

• jQuery : how to determine that a div is scrolled down

  I have a div with defined height, and overflow:scroll;. Its content is too long so scrollbars appear. Now for the ichy part. Some of its inner HTML strangely appears all the time (to be precise, the footer of a table generated by the tableFilter plugin). I'd like to make this footer disappear when it is not needed (it actually appears out of the containing <div>'s border). I resolved to make it disappear but setting its z-index to -1000. But I want to make it appear when the containing <div> is totally scrolled down. How can I know the user has scrolled at the bottom ? Using the help from answers below, I used scrollTop attribute but the difference between scrollTop and innerHeight is the size of the scrollbar plus some unidentified delta. A scrollbar is 16 pixels high in most browsers under Windows, but I get a difference of 17 in Firefox and something like 20 in IE, where my <div> content's borders seems to be rendered bigger. A way (actually two ways...) to compute the scrollbar size has been given there.

• How do I sync the Solution Explorer with the current File in Visual Studio?

  When I have an open code file in Visual Studio that I am editing I would like to keep that same file highlighted inside of the solution Explorer so that I know where I am at. What I'd really like is to change the focus to a different code file and the solution explorer to move to the file that I am editing. Further Explanation and example: I have a project with 2 files. Class1 and Class2. I open both files. The focus is on Class1. I click on the Class2 Tab, thereby changing the file that I am editing to Class2. Desired Behavior The solution explorer will highlight Class2.
