• What's the best way to sell ReSharper to management? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How do you convince your boss to buy useful tools like Resharper, LinqPad? I've recently started a new job developing code in C# and ASP.Net. At a previous employer I've used ReSharper from JetBrains and I loved it. I've downloaded the free trial in my new job, as have several of my new colleagues on my recommendation. Everyone thinks it's great. But now our trials are coming to an end and it's time to buy or say goodbye. I've been reliably informed that getting money for tools from senior management is like trying to get blood from a stone, so how can I convince them to loosen their grip on the purse strings and buy it for our team (of seven developers)? Does anyone have any experience of convincing management of the benefits of refactoring tools? • Android Application for Final Year Project [closed]

  I hope this is the right place to post this question. Basically, I'm about to choose a Final Year Project for my third and final year in BSc Computer Science. I have worked with different apps and therefore I do have some experience with the Android SDK Platform in general. However, my question is this, how do you think an Android based project would go down with potential employers? I personally don't think the complexity of this project is lower than other projects proposed by my university. • Who makes laptops for Ubuntu?

  I'm looking for a laptop and would like to avoid the whole 'is this [specific configuration of hardware] compatible with Ubuntu?' process by finding a laptop manufactured with Ubuntu in mind. I know of system76, but are there any other manufacturers making laptops built to run a standard build of Ubuntu? I'm not counting Dell, as - from my experience - their 'Ubuntu' laptops/netbooks require their build, and because of that have their own set of compatibility issues. UPDATE: And as mentioned in the comments, Dell is no longer selling systems with Ubuntu to consumers.

• Failed Update & Mouse Issues

  I`m using my gfs computer - but I do have Ubuntu 11.10 up and running well to some degree. Still need to work out some bugs but not quite sure how to do that. My mouse is only somewhat responsive - cursor moves, and able to click on things but still unable to do a double click function. Left mouse button still not working at all. Tried running updates but it keeps coming up synaptic error. Not sure what that means. I have read that some people have done reinstalls of Ubuntu and it corrected the problems - not sure if that could work. Comments would be appreciated. Installed Ubuntu 11.10 but thinking of trying to wipe the system to do a fresh install can someone tell me how I get back to the Ubuntu installation menu. Wondering if gnome may need to be reset but not sure.

• How to get audio spectrum analysis?

  I need to find or create a tool that analyzes the audio spectrum of a sound file (like a .wav or .mp3). I need to output the "volume" or power of x number of frequency bands and output the data as text. This will be used to produce a visualization, a graphic equalizer like you'd see on a stereo. I am currently looking at python to do it. My question is are there some tools out there that would do this (signal processing), like math works or others? • Google Analytics - bad experiences? (esp. adult content)

  Hello all, I work for a rather large adult website, and we're currently not using Google Analytics. There is an internal debate going on about whether we should start using Analytics, but there is hestitation from certain parties. The main argument is that they fear that Google will get too much insight into our website, and might even block us from the index as a result based on our adult content. Has anyone here ever had such an experience, or know stories about bad experiences with Google Analytics in such a manner? I personally think it will only improve our website if we were able to use Analytics, but the dev team was asked to look into possible negative effects. Any help would be appreciated.

  I'm looking for some notebook that will run on Ubuntu perfectly. I like LENOVO IdeaPad Z570, but I'm not sure how it will perform on Ubuntu. I heard people are complaining about wireless problems. Any problems noted? I heard there is a test suite, how can I install it? Maybe I can boot live CD and try it myself before buying it.   I'm about to embark on a 2D gaming project. Initially, I'll be targeting iPhone and Facebook, but would like to expand the rollout to include Android (and possibly Windows Phone) in a future phase. Flash and Unity seem to be the most likely suspects, but is one better than the other? Are there pros/cons that may not be obvious at first glance? Are there frameworks that I have not considered? • Recovering a deleted partition

  I had a dual boot PC running Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7. About a month back, I deleted the Ubuntu partition via the disk management utility (I do not remember whether or not I formatted the partition after performing this action). I ran into some grub issues and used lilo to solve the issue. I followed the simple instructions described in this blog post. I now realize that there were some files in the Ubuntu installation that I need. Of course, I backed up the data, but not this folder apparently. Is there any way to get the data back? I tried following the process suggested on another post on askubuntu (suggesting the use of TestDisk), but was not able to even install TestDisk. The live USB I use is running Ubuntu 12.04 and it does not have a synaptic package manager. Installing from the terminal does not work because even after I type: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade the command: sudo apt-get install testdisk fails to work.

• How to shrink Windows partition with unmovable files in dual boot installation

  To install Ubuntu alongside Windows 7, I have to shrink Windows 7 partition C:. But due to some unmovable files, I cannot shrink as much as I plan by using Windows own shrinking tool. I guess many of you who have both OSes on the same hard drive must have similar experience. How to solve this problem? Any reference that can help is also appreciated! Thanks and regards! UPDATE: I have identified what unmovable file currently stop further shrinking: \ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows\Projects\SystemIndex\Indexer\CiFiles\00010015.wid::$DATA If I understand correctly, the file belongs to Windows Search. Can I set up somewhere in Windows system settings to temperately eliminate the file and similar ones (because there are many similar files under the same directory which I guess will also stand in the way of shrinking and unmovable by defrag)?

One is CS/IT and focuses on algorithms, math, multimedia, web technologies with optional interesting courses like AI and robotics. Second is about business process management, software architecture and project management. I have some experience in business software and I must say, I never though I need deeper understating of algorithms or program language but I always felt that I'm lacking in project planing or management knowledge. On the other side, CS/IT looks more interesting but what are the chances to find a job that require such skills?

Does XNA have basic object transformation, lighting and mesh/texture importing functionality by which you can develop a decent 3D side-scrolling game? In order to be really useful, such application should have: -basic CRM functionality to track who is providing the ads -multilingual multi country support: have the ability to specify for the same ad, different versions for multiple languages/countries -predefined ad formats (google Ads, flash ads...) and sizes with corresponding PHP helpers so as to insert in the HTML code the necessary markup to properly integrate the ad.   A knowledgeable friend recently looked at a website I helped launch, and commented something like "very cool site, shame about the inline scripting in the source code". I'm definitely in a position to remove the inline scripting where it occurs; I'm vaguely aware that it's "a bad thing". My question is: what are the real problems with inline scripting? Is there a significant performance issue, or is it mostly just a matter of good style? Can I justify immediate action on the inline scripting front to my superiors, when there are other things to work on that might have a more obvious impact on the site? If you pulled up to a website, and took a peek at the source code, what factors would lead you to say "hmm, professional work here", and what would cause you to recoil from an obviously amateurish job? • Do I have to learn html and javascript to create web applications?

  I am an experienced Java programmer, and I want to create a complex web application requiring dynamic pages, drawings, etc (take SO as an example). Do I have to learn javascript/html in order to create such an application? It is not that I don't want to learn another language (I've done this before), but technology on the javascript environment seems to change so fast that when you finish learning one framework it is already obsolete. I have checked a number of java framework for web development (spring, play), but not deeply. So can these frameworks (or other possible java frameworks that I'm not aware of) be used without learning html/javascript? I also have some python experience. So if I can do the app in python it is also an option.

  For those who are not aware of Kindle's whispersync, here is how it works (from amazon.com): "...Whispersync synchronizes the bookmarks and furthest page read among devices registered to the same account. Whispersync is on by default to ensure a seamless reading experience for a book read across multiple Kindles." Can anyone give some details on how the Whispersync feature is implemented in Kindle and in the Backend of Amazon? I am guessing this implementation involves a very simple hashmap for each user account. Each hashmap maps Books with satellite information about the book. Satellite information contains bookmarks, furthest page read, device on which it was read, etc.. Thanks!
