• What is wrong with my Basic Authentication in FireFox?

  Hi folks, i'm trying to goto the following url :- http://user1:pass1@localhost:1234/api/users?format=xml nothing to complex. Notice how i've got the username/password in the url? this, i believe, is for basic authentication. When i do that, the Request Headers are MISSING the 'Authorize' header. Er... that's not right :( I have anonymous authentication only setup on the site. I don't want to have anon off and basic turned on .. because not all of the site requires basic.. only a few action methods. So .. why is this not working? Is this something to do with the fact my code is not sending a 401 challenge or some crap? For What It's Worth, my site is ASP.NET MVC1 running on IIS7 (and the same thing happens when i run it on cassini).

  I read on the internet many tutorials that explained how to use lambdas with the standard library (such as std::find), and they all were very interesting, but I couldn't find any that explained how I can use a lambda for my own functions. For example: int main() { int test = 5; LambdaTest([&](int a) { test += a; }); return EXIT_SUCCESS; } How should I declare LambdaTest? What's the type of its first argument? And then, how can I call the anonymous function passing to it - for example - "10" as its argument?

• How to implement a "hidden" Android app?

  I would like an application which is not readily apparent to casual perusal of the Android. How best to activate it and bring its screen to the fore? Can I detect a special dialing sequence, like *1234#? Or a hotkey combination? When activated, I guess I can pop up an anonymous screen which does not mention the app, but only asks for a password. If password is ok, then show the app. Any suggestions?

Somebody, who was working on my code before me, created some method and passed Runnable as parameter, more likely: void myMethod(Runnable runnable){ runnable.run(); } Then calling myMethod out of main looks like: public static void main(String args[]) { try { myMethod(new Runnable(){ public void run() { //do something...; }}); } catch (Throwable t) { } } So, to supply parameter to myMethod I need to instantiate object of (in this case anonymous) class implementing Runnable. My question is: is it necessary to use Runnable in this example? Can I use any different interface? I mean I can create new interface with single method i.e. interface MyInterface{ void doThis(); } then change look of myMethod: void myMethod(MyInterface myObject){ myObject.doThis(); } And of course client too: public static void main(String args[]) { try { myMethod(new MyInterface (){ public void doThis() { //do something...; }}); } catch (Throwable t) { } } Or maybe something is about Runnable?!

• Windows authetication with Silverlight custom binding.

  Hello, I am trying to set up security within a web.config file for a WCF service hosted in IIS but keep getting the error message: Security settings for this service require 'Anonymous' Authentication but it is not enabled for the IIS application that hosts this service. I have read Nicholas Allen’s blog (link text) and it appears that this is the route that I need to take. However, I am using “binaryMessageEncoding” in a customBinding for my Silverlight service, and as such, I’m not sure how to apply this type of security to such an element. This is how my custom binding looks in config at present: <customBinding> <binding name="silverlightBinaryBinding"> <binaryMessageEncoding /> <httpTransport /> </binding> </customBinding> Has anyone had any experience getting Windows authentication to work with a custom binding using binaryMessageEncoding? • node_load in drupal gets incorrect node when you are NOT logged in

  Hi All, i have a module and i am using node_load(array('nid' = arg(1))); now the problem is that this function keep getting its data for node_load from DB cache. how can i force this function to not use DB cache or static value? Example my link is http://mydomain.com/node/344983 now: $node=node_load(array('nid'=arg(1)),null,true); echo $node-nid; output: 435632 which is a randomly node id (available in the database) and everytime i ctrl+F5 my browser, i get new nid!! Note: if i am logged in, it gives the result correctly, but this problem happens only when i am browsing the website as an anonymous user i really appreciate any idea!! Thanks

  I had a list of tuples where every tuple consists of two integers and I wanted to sort by the 2nd integer. After looking in the python help I got this: sorted(myList, key=lambda x: x[1]) which is great. My question is, is there an equally succinct way of doing this in C# (the language I have to work in)? I know the obvious answer involving creating classes and specifying an anonymous delegate for the whole compare step but perhaps there is a linq oriented way as well.   I have a problem which I could solve using something like this sortedElements.ForEach((XElement el) => PrintXElementName(el,i++)); And this means that I have in ForEach a lambda which permits using parameters like int i. I like that way of doing it, but i read somewhere that anonymous methods and delegates with lambda leads to a lot of memory leaks because each time when lambda is executed something is instantiated but is not released. Something like that. Could you please tell me if this is true in this situation and if it is why?

• virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

  hi i am comletly new to iis and asp.net i am trying to setup bugNET on a godaddy server. i created a virtual directory and once i tried to launch the site i get this error: Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS. here is complete detail of what i did. hosting: godaddy created virtual directory (child folder of root) - named: devbunk with these settings (anonymous access, directory browsing) that is all i can do to with iis on godaddy. the error tells me that i need to turn the virtual directory as an application. godaddy doesnt let me do that... how do i do it? btw, i have iis7 setup.

  I am trying to enable Windows Authentication on my IIS 6.0 Server with some client technology and Oracle DB server. When I load the ASPX page and have unchecked Anonymous Access and checked Integrated Windows Authentication, I can see my LOGON_USER credentials on the server via tracing. I am now trying to see if the same user can read data from a LINUX-based Oracle server. I can't seem to pass over the credentials! How can I connect to Oracle? Anything special I should know about in terms of web.config files? Another question is, I'm assuming the Oracle server should be 'hooked' to Active Directory? How about manually adding users to the allowed tables? What about Oracle's LDAP, OID? Can anyone direct me to a good link for reference?

  I searched but couldn't find an answer to this seemingly easy question, so... Suppose I have a loop in which I need to set callbacks. My callback function looks like this: function callback(var1) { // code } Now my loop is something like this: for( //condition) { var x = something_different_each_time; document.getElementById('foo').addEventListener('click', function() { callback(x); }, false); } Now it looks like even if the loop runs n times, the anonymous function is compiled only once -- and hence every invocation of callback is called with the same argument (even though x varies in the loop every time). I must be missing something here.. any help is greatly appreciated! :)

• Cached Jquery selector behavior that I do not understand

  Given the following code why am I getting different values for a and b? I would have thought they would return the same thing: (function() { var a = $('#foo'); var Test = function(){ console.log(a); //outputs 'jQuery()' var b = $('#foo'); console.log(b); //outputs 'jQuery(select#foo)' which is what I want }; })(); This question stems from me trying to stick frequently used selectors into vars. Originally I was doing it in each method (like I did with var b in the above example) but then I found I needed to use the selectors in multiple methods so I moved the assignment out to be available (or so I thought) to all of the methods in that anonymous function. As you can see, it does not work. Why is this?

  hi, I'm using JRebel with Scala and I'm quite frequently experiencing the need for restart of server due to the fact that JRebel is unable to load a class if the superclass was changed. This is done mainly when I change anonymous functions as I can deduce from the JRebel error desription: Class 'mypackage.NewBook$$anonfun$2' superclass was changed from 'scala.runtime.AbstractFunction1' to 'scala.runtime.AbstractFunction2' and could not be reloaded. Is there any way, how can I design my code to avoid this? Does scala compiler take the functions, numbers them from one as they appear in source code?

Removing the parentheses around the lambda yields Cannot convert 'lambda expression' to non-delegate type 'MonoTouch.Foundation.NSDateComponents'. What is the correct C# syntax? I need to retain the closures as there are a lot more in the code base that I am porting.

• overview/history of resident memory usage

  I have a fairly complicated program (Python with SWIG'ed C++ code, long running server) that shows a constantly growing resident memory usage. I've been digging with the usual tools for the leak (valgrind, Pythons gc module, etc.) but to no avail so far. I'm a bit afraid that the actual problem is memory fragmentation within Python and/or libc managed memory. Anyway, my question is more specific right now: Is there a tool to visualize resident memory usage and ideally show how it develops over time? I think the raw data is in /proc/$PID/smaps but I was hoping there's some tool that shows me a nice graph of the amounts used by mmap'ed files vs. anonymous mmap'ed memory vs. heap over time so that it's easier to see (literally) what's changing. I couldn't find anything though. Does anybody know of a ready to use tool that graphs memory usage over space and time in an intuitive way?

• .Net LoginControls - User can't logout in Firefox

  Basically, the logout link doesn't do anything, but only in Firefox. (I can login and out freely from other browsers) There really isn't a whole lot of information I can really give other than that, since I'm still new to this project and .net as a whole, and know almost nothing about the login controls. So if someone else has experienced a similar issue in the past, and can recognize the issue with the little info I have, that would be great! If not, sorry for the lack of depth, but its all I have. • C++ and C#, "Casting" Functions to Delegates, What's the scoop?

  In C# 2.0, I can do the following: public class MyClass { delegate void MyDelegate(int myParam); public MyClass(OtherObject obj) { //THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART obj.SomeCollection.Add((MyDelegate)MyFunction); } private void MyFunction(int myParam); { //... } } Trying to implement the same thing in C++, it appears I have to do: MyDelegate del = gcnew MyDelegate(this, MyFunction); obj-SomeCollection-Add(del); Obviously I can create a new instance of the delegate in C# as well instead of what's going on up there. Is there some kind of magic going on in the C# world that doesn't exist in C++ that allows that cast to work? Some kind of magic anonymous delegate? Thanks.

• Questions about my program and Polymorphism

  Ok, so basically I'm creating a program which allows the user to select a shape (triangle, square, circle) and then it takes in a int and calculates the boundary length and area. I have no problem doing this and have a program that's working perfectly. (https://gist.github.com/anonymous/c63a03c129560a7b7434 4 classes) But now I have to implement this with polymorphism concepts and I'm honestly struggling as to how to do it. I have a basic idea of what I want to do when it comes to inheritance Main | Shapes / | \ triangle circle square But I don't understand how I'm supposed to override when all the methods within the triangle/square/circle classes are unique, there are no "abstract" methods as such that I could inherit from the "Shapes" class. If somebody could make look quickly at the code I linked and suggest a way to do this it would be much appreciated. Sorry if I was bad at explaining this. Thanks.

  Does anybody see any drawbacks? It should be noted that you can't remove anonymous methods from an event delegate list, I'm aware of that (actually that was the conceptual motivation for this).
