• clear cached javascript includes in FireFox

  I'm working on javascript for a site, developing with FireFox, and when I refresh the page, I don't see my changes. The javascript file is in an external file. I reloaded and refreshed the page several times, but the old javascript file was still cached. Finally, I loaded the javascript page in the browser directly, saw the old script, hit 'reload', and saw my changes. How can I clear cached external javascript files? I'll need to know this also when I tell the client that the changes are made, so that they aren't seeing the old cached functionality.

• Checkbox not checking inside div in Firefox

  Weird problem. I don't know if anyone can shed some light on this? I have a checkbox inside a div. It works fine in IE but not Firefox. I have to click the space around the checkbox that is occupied by the div (sort of like a label) for the checkbox to tick on and off. Directly clicking the checkbox does not show it as ticked on or off, even though in firebug it is showing that it is in a checked state and an unchecked state. Only in FF does this happen.....

• Firefox 3.03 and contentEditable

  I'm using the contentEditable attribute on a DIV element in Firefox 3.03. Setting it to true allows me to edit the text content of the DIV, as expected. Then, when I set contentEditable to "false", the div is no longer editable, also as expected. However the flashing caret (text input cursor) remains visible even though the text is no longer editable. The caret is now also visible when I click on most other text in the same page, even in normal text paragraphs. Has anyone seen this before? Is there any way to force the caret hidden? (When I either resize the browser or click within another application, and come back, the caret magically disappears.)

• Strange Rendering in Firefox

  I've just noticed when loading my client's page (http://habbopfm.com/) in Firefox, that it renders what looks like a rectangle is pushed down a few pixels. It's difficult to describe, but imagine you took a screenshot of the page, opened it in Photoshop, selected a rectangle and moved it down a bit. IE and Safari don't appear to do this - I'm assuming this is a browser glitch, not a problem with the code. Can anyone confirm what causes this? Below is a screenshot taken of the issue: http://habbopfm.com/problem.png One other thing is that it only does this once the page has finished loading. While it is loading, it looks fine.

  Hi guys, Had a look and found some things on this, but nothing seems to work as I'd like it. Initially I had my solution working with internet explorer and chrome, but not firefox (which is unsatisfactory for me to not have working) What I'm looking for is a simple text area, which sends data on enter key, but creates a new line on Shift+Enter. I tried also like described in this article to set the browser.link.open_newwindow and browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction preferences but that doesn't bringt anything. And I tried it with all Target attributes which came in my mind. So I'm grateful for any hints, tips what ever this is driving me crazy...

• Firefox 17.0.1 ignoring font-weight

  http://iamsinc.com/blog/new-producer-bonus/ For some reason Firefox 17.0.1 on my Windows 7 machine is ignoring the font-weight of the td elements. It should be normal. This works fine in Chrome, IE 7 8, & 9, but not in FF. I have also tested it on an XP machine running 17.0.1 and it works fine. The font-weight should be normal, not bold. In the second box down ($300k level), the font-weight is showing up as bold on Win 7 FF 17.0.1 which pushes the pictures outside of the box. I have even tried reducing the font-weight waaay down and it has not effect on the problematic FF browser Does anybody have a solution or even a work-around? I hate to make the pictures all smaller just to work around this. Thanks!

  I know from this question that Firefox 3.0 and up stores its cookies in an SQLite database. My question is: can you access this database from other desktop programs in such a way that you could add a cookie? I realize this has security implications. However, I do not want to read them at all. I want to be able to set one cookie if possible. I don't even want to overwrite a cookie. I just want to add it if it isn't there already. This is sort of a personal project I'm working on for fun. This question is mostly language agnostic. I would prefer a solution in C#, but proof of concept in any language will suffice. Extra credit: It would be cool to set the same cookie in Internet Explorer, too

  I'm trying to learn how to make a firefox extension. I want to create a toolbar that only shows up on a specific page. I can make the toolbar appear, but then it should become hidden when I open or switch to a new tab, or close the tab with that specific page. • ASP.NET required field validator firing on focus in Firefox

  I have 2 asp.net textboxes in an update panel. Both textbox controls have some javascript attached to autotab to the next field and to allow only numeric input. When I enter some data into the first field and press enter, focus shifts to the next field and the requiredfieldvalidator of the second field displays its "* required" error message, even though I've just entered the field. This is only happening in Firefox. • Comet Jetty/Tomcat, having some browser issues with Firefox and Chrome

  I am exploring the use of Comet for a project I am working on. I tried creating a test application first using Tomcat6 and CometProcessor API and then with Jetty7 Continuations. The application is kind of working on both but I am having some issues with the actual display of messages. I used the technique of creating an XMLHttpRequest Connection and keeping it open all the time so the server can continuously push data to all the clients connected whenever it is available. My client side code is something similar to this: function fn(){ var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest(); xhr.onreadystatechange = function(){ if (xhr.readyState==3){ document.getElementById('dv').innerHTML =(xhr.responseText); } if (xhr.readyState==4){ alert ('done'); } } xhr.open("GET", "First", true); xhr.send(null); } I found this thing of using readyState 3 somewhere online. I am facing 2 problems currently: In Firefox this code works perfectly. But if I open a new tab or even a new browser window, it does not make a new connection to the server and nothing shows up on the new tab or window, only the first tab/window gets the display. I used wireshark to check this and its shows only 1 connection even after the 2nd tab is opened. I am unable to understand why this would happen. I have read about the 2 connection limit, but here there is only one connection. Secondly in Chrome, the above code does not work, and the callback is not invoked for readystate of 3, only when the connection is closed by the server i get the output. I would also like to ask which is the best way/framework for doing Comet with Java. I am currently using jQuery on the client side. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

• Automate the signature of the update.rdf manifest for my firefox extension

  Hello, I'm developing a firefox extension and I'd like to provide automatic update to my beta-testers (who are not tech-savvy). Unfortunately, the update server doesn't provide HTTPS. According to the Extension Developer Guide on signing updates, I have to sign my update.rdf and provide an encoded public key in the install.rdf. There is the McCoy tool to do all of this, but it is an interactive GUI tool and I'd like to automate the extension packaging using an Ant script (as this is part of a much bigger process). I can't find a more precise description of what's happening to sign the update.rdf manifest than below, and McCoy source is an awful lot of javascript. The doc says: The add-on author creates a public/private RSA cryptographic key pair. The public part of the key is DER encoded and then base 64 encoded and added to the add-on's install.rdf as an updateKey entry. (...) Roughly speaking the update information is converted to a string, then hashed using a sha512 hashing algorithm and this hash is signed using the private key. The resultant data is DER encoded then base 64 encoded for inclusion in the update.rdf as an signature entry. I don't know well about DER encoding, but it seems like it needs some parameters. So would anyone know either the full algortihm to sign the update.rdf and install.rdf using a predefined keypair, or a scriptable alternative to McCoy whether a command-line tool like asn1coding will suffise a good/simple developer tutorial on DER encoding

• Mouse bugginess - SWFObject, Firefox 3 for Mac, and Flash

  I'm pulling my hair out over a problem I'm encountering on Firefox 3.5 & 3.6 on OS X. I'm using SWFobject to embed an AmMap of the US, which has rollover tooltips for various states. The rollovers are working fine in every other browser I've tested, but they're very buggy on FF for Mac--most of the time they don't show up at all, but if I persistently click a state that's supposed to have a hover event, I might catch a glimpse of the tooltip. Here's the code for the SWFObject embed (incidentally, this isn't being done in the document head due to templating reasons). • CSS menu broken in Firefox (display:table-cell;)

I'd rather fix the CSS to make it show correctly.

I feel like this may be a font issue? When I get rid of font-weight: normal it goes back to normal, but I don't want everything to be bolded in my h2... Anyone have any ideas? More importantly, is anyone able to reproduce this?? Thanks.

• jQuery code working in Safari and Chrome but not Firefox

  I'm got a site that has a long list of tweets, and as you scroll down the right column follows you down, showing stats on the tweets. (See it in action at http://www.grapevinegame.com . Click 'memorise', then 'skip' to get to the list page. Works in Safari and Chrome). I'm using jQuery to update the top-margin of the right column, increasing it as I scroll down. It seems to be working fine in webkit-based browsers, but doesn't budge in Firefox.
