• What languages have a while-else type control structure, and how does it work?

  A long time ago, I thought I saw a proposal to add an else clause to for or while loops in C or C++... or something like that. I don't remember how it was supposed to work -- did the else clause run if the loop exited normally but not via a break statement? Anyway, this is tough to search for, so I thought maybe I could get some CW answers here for various languages. What languages support adding an else clause to something other than an if statement? What is the meaning of that clause? One language per answer please.

• Requesting information from the user inside a GTK main loop

  Hello, I am learning Python by building a simple PyGTK application that fetches data from some SVN repositories, using pysvn. The pysvn Client has a callback you can specify that it calls when Subversion needs authentication information for a repository. When that happens, I would like to open a dialog to ask the user for the credentials. The problem is, it seems the callback is called inside the GTK main loop, so it's basically called on every tick. Is there a way to prevent this? Perhaps by opening the dialog in a new thread? But then how do I return the tuple with the user data to the callback so it can return it to the pysvn.Client?

• Handle order dependence in for loops

  Hey all, I'm making a templating system where I instantiate each tag using a foreach loop. The issue is that some of the tags rely on each other so, I'm wondering how to get around that ordering from the looping. Here's an example: Class A { public $width; __construct() { $this->width = $B->width(); // Undefined! Or atleast not set yet.. } } Class B { private $width; __construct() { $this->width = "500px"; } __tostring() { return "Hello World!"; } } Template.php $tags = array("A", "B"); foreach ($tags as $tag) { $TagObj[$tag] = new $tag(); } echo $TagObj['A']->width; // Nadamundo!   Hello, I'm new to threading and want to do something similar to this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/100291/speed-up-loop-using-multithreading-in-c-question However, I'm not sure if that solution is the best one for me as I want them to keep running and never finish. (I'm also using .net 3.5 rather than 2.0 as for that question.) • [PHP] building html tables from query data... faster?

  With my limited experience/knowledge I am using the following structure to generate HTML tables on the fly from MySQL queries: $c = 0; $t = count($results); $table = '<table>'; while ($c < $t) { $table .= "<tr><td>$results[0]</td><td>$results[1]</td> (etc etc) </tr>"; ++$c; } $table .= '</table>'; this works, obviously. But for tables with 300+ rows there is a noticeable delay in pageload while the script builds the table. Currently the maximum results list is only about 1,100 rows, and the wait isn't long, but there's clearly a wait. Are there other methods for outputting an HTML table that are faster than my WHILE loop? (PHP only please...)

  Here's the sample code: public static void col (int n) { if (n % 2 == 0) n = n/2 ; if (n % 2 != 0) n = ((n*3)+1) ; System.out.println (n) ; if (n != 1) col (n) ; } this works just fine until it gets down to 2. then it outputs 2 4 2 4 2 4 2 4 2 4 infinitely. it seems to me that if 2 is entered as n then (n % 2 == 0) is true 2 will be divided by 2 to yeild 1. then 1 will be printed and since (n != 1) is false the loop will terminate. Why doesn't this happen?

  I currently have a log object I'd like to remove objects from, based on a LINQ query. I would like to remove all records in the log if the sum of the versions within a program are greater than 60. Currently I'm pretty confident that this'll work, but it seems kludgy: for (int index = 0; index < 4; index++) { Log.RemoveAll(log => (log.Program[index].Version[0].Value + log.Program[index].Version[1].Value + log.Program[index].Version[2].Value ) > 60); } The Program is an array of 4 values and version has an array of 3 values. Is there a more simple way to do this RemoveAll in LINQ without using the for loop? Thanks for any help in advance!

CS0103: The name 'item' does not exist in the current context I can't see why it would be doing this as I'm passing item into the partial view?

  I have the following list in Python: [[1, 2], [3, 4], [4, 6], [2, 7], [3, 9]] I want to group them into [[1,2,7],[3,4,6,7]] My code to do this looks like this: l=[[1, 2], [3, 4], [4, 6], [2, 7], [3, 9]] lf=[] for li in l: for lfi in lf: if lfi.intersection(set(li)): lfi=lfi.union(set(li)) break else: lf.append(set(li)) lf is my final list. I do a loop over l and lf and when I find an intersection between an element from l and another from lf, I would like to merge them (union) But I can't figure out why this is not working. The first to elements of the list l are being inserted with the append command, but the union is not working. My final list lf looks like [set([1, 2]), set([3, 4])] It seems to be something pretty basic, but I'm not familiar with sets. I appreciate any help Thanks

  A trivial example of an "infinite" IEnumerable would be IEnumerable<int> Numbers() { int i=0; while(true) { yield return i++; } } I know, that foreach(int i in Numbers().Take(10)) { Console.WriteLine(i); } and var q = Numbers(); foreach(int i in q.Take(10)) { Console.WriteLine(i); } both work fine (and print out the number 0-9). But are there any pitfalls when copying or handling expressions like q? Can I rely on the fact, that they are always evaluated "lazy"? Is there any danger to produce an infinite loop?

• "Initializing - Busy - Stopping" LOOP issue in Azure deployement

  Hi folks, I am trying to deploy an azure cloud application on Windows Azure. Application specifications are -- It has one WebRole - ASP.Net MVC Application (ASP.Net charting control is used in this MVC application) It does not contain any worker role. Third party references are set with property "copy Local" to "true"(MVC,ASP Charting control & ASP Provider DLLs) There is no DiagnosticsConnectionString in service configuration file It uses ASP provider for session state management. This application runs successfully on local dev fabric but when I try to deploy it on Windows Azure it gets stuck in a loop with status being changed between Initializing, Busy, Stopping states. It never goes into READY state. It seems that there are no ERROR logs for conveying the deployment issues to user. So is there any way to diagnose deployment issues ? Is there any way to get deployment ERROR logs ? Any kind of help will be appreciated. Thanks, Kushal

• Why am I having this InstantiationException in Java when accessing final local variables?

  I was playing with some code to make a "closure like" construct ( not working btw ) Everything looked fine but when I tried to access a final local variable in the code, the exception InstantiationException is thrown. If I remove the access to the local variable either by removing it altogether or by making it class attribute instead, no exception happens. The doc says: InstantiationException Thrown when an application tries to create an instance of a class using the newInstance method in class Class, but the specified class object cannot be instantiated. The instantiation can fail for a variety of reasons including but not limited to: - the class object represents an abstract class, an interface, an array class, a primitive type, or void - the class has no nullary constructor What other reason could have caused this problem? I've got the shaking code done so I get get a "shaking started" and "shaking ended" message to my game. What I need to have happen is start playing "shave.wav" when shaking starts and loop it until it stops. Is there a way to do this with AudioToolbox/AudioServices? How could I do this if not?

  Hi, I'm trying to build a small utility for myself only to hide labels of running programs with windows visible in the taskbar where the label holds no information (for example "iTunes", "Microsoft SQL Server Mngmt Studio", "~cmd.exe") but keep windows like Windows Explorer and Visual Studio and MSN ungroupped, with labels (to know which folders you are currently listing, which projects are open, and who are you chatting with by name). I'm trying to loop through all windows in the taskbar on windows 7, but without any luck. I found some samples for XP's taskbar reorders, they no longer usable. I've checked the samples in WindowsAPICodePack for Windows 7 Taskbar manipulation, but it only lets me access my processes' windows.

But because I declare the variable's value at the beginning of the script, the velocity variables don't stay on what I change it to. I need a way to change the variable's value permanently. I'm trying to save it, but I cannot redeclare the "entity" below. How do I do it? I've tried releasing it, but that didn't work!
