  • MySQL open files limit

    - by Brian
This question is similar to set open_files_limit, but there was no good answer. I need to increase my table_open_cache, but first I need to increase the open_files_limit. I set the option in /etc/mysql/my.cnf: open-files-limit = 8192 This worked fine in my previous install (Ubuntu 8.04), but now in Ubuntu 10.04, when I start the server up, open_files_limit is reported to be 1710. That seems like a pretty random number for the limit to be clipped to. Anyway, I tried getting around it by adding a line like this in /etc/security/limits.conf: mysql hard nofile 8192 I also tried adding this to the pre-start script in mysql's upstart config (/etc/init/mysql.conf): ulimit -n 8192 Obviously neither of those things worked. So where is the hoop that has been added between Ubuntu 8.04 and 10.04 through which I must jump in order to actually increase the open files limit?

  • Connection to mysql server in SYN_SENT

    - by Sunil
We are facing a strange problem from last few days between our application server and database server(Mysql): connection to database server from application server hangs in SYN_SENT state and after that we are not able to make any connection to database server on mysql port(3306). When we checked the netstat output on database server its in SYN_RECV state. What I can figure out is mysql server is receiving the SYN request and responding also and its not reaching to the client hence SYN_RECV at server side and SYN_SENT at client side. I think SYN_SENT state should go after some time and because of this other db connection attempts to same server should not hang. Does anybody have any idea how can we resolve this issue? Out setup details : Application server: RHEL 5.4, kernel-release = 2.6.18-164.el5, x86_64 Database server: Mysql Version : 5.1.49 RHEL 5.4, kernel-release = 2.6.18-164.el5, x86_64

  • OS X: Storing MySQL data securely, on an encrypted FileVault image using a soft link

    - by GJ
I am trying to get a macports-installed MySQL to use a data directory stored inside my FileVault-protected home dir. I used sudo cp -a /opt/local/var/db/mysql5 ~/db/ (the -a to ensure file permissions remain intact) and then replaced the original mysql5 directory with a soft link: sudo ln -s ~/db/mysql5 /opt/local/var/db/mysql5 However, when I now try to start MySQL it fails. It follows the soft link at least to the extent that it modifies some files in the ~/db/mysql5 dir, notably the error log which gets appended to it this: 110108 15:33:08 mysqld_safe Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /opt/local/var/db/mysql5 110108 15:33:08 [Warning] '--skip-locking' is deprecated and will be removed in a future release. • multiple file systems for mysql

    - by RainDoctor
Does mysql support multiple file systems for a single database with most of the tables being on MyISAM? Context: we have a 1.5TB mysql database, which is increasing at the rate of 200GB per month. The storage is directly attached, whose slots are almost full. I can add another DAS, and increase the file system. But resizing volume, resizing file system, etc are getting messy. Is there a concept of "tablespace, datafile" (like in oracle) in MySql world? Or how you guys manage mysql db with these kind of constraints?

  • mysql.sock problem on Mac OS X, all Zend products

    - by Michael Stelly
Hi folks. I posted this on the Zend forum, but I'm hoping I can get a speedier reply here. I've tried every solution provided on this forum with no luck. When I restart mysql, everything appears ok. sudo /usr/local/zend/bin/zendctl.sh restart Password: /usr/local/zend/bin/apachectl stop [OK] /usr/local/zend/bin/apachectl start [OK] Stopping Zend Server GUI [Lighttpd] [OK] spawn-fcgi: child spawned successfully: PID: 7943 Starting Zend Server GUI [Lighttpd] [OK] Stopping Java bridge [OK] Starting Java bridge [OK] Shutting down MySQL . This is a show-stopper for me. I appreciate any assistance. Thank you.

  • Link mysql with php on apache

    - by Cristy
THE STORY: I've installed Apache 2.2.17 , PHP 5.2.16 , MySQL 5.5.8 . The PHP woks great, the phpinfo() works on the localhost. THE PROBLEM: The thing is that in phpinfo() there is no mysql mentionened. I've done the following: moved php.ini to C:\windows removed the ";" in front of the mysql extension line ( extension=php_mysql.dll ) copied the libmysql.dll to php folder & windows\system32 checked the extension path in php.ini to be " C:\php\ext" searched the internet for a solution for about 2 hours... ADDITIONAL INFO: In the Apache Enviorment path I have the following: C:\Program Files (x86)\PHP\;C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem;C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTSystem\;C:\OJI\MinGWStudio\work\mingw\bin;C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\;C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\;C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\Binn\; I think the Microsoft SQL path should be replaced with the MySQL one, but I don't know where to change that...

  • Interpreting Munin graphs showing available entropy and MySQL slow queries in sync

    - by user64204
We're experiencing performance issues on our website, and after reviewing our munin graphs, the only metrics we've found in sync are Available entropy and MySQL slow queries, with the latter influenced by our number of logged in users: Based on the wikipedia entropy page, my understanding is that entropy is the amount of randomness (here measured in bytes) that the system can use for various tasks, mainly cryptography and functions that require random input. Since the peaks in available entropy and MySQL slow queries are occurring in sync and at regular interval, that the number of MySQL slow queries is proportional to our number of Drupal users whereas the peaks in available entropy seem to be much more constant and less proportional to these 2 metrics, we're thinking available entropy is the reflect of a root cause which, combined with the traffic to our website, is causing those slow queries (and not the opposite, slow queries influencing the entropy). Accordingly: Q: What underlying problem do you think could cause regular peaks in available entropy that could have an influence on MySQL's ability to process queries?

  • MySQL on a laptop for remote workers - MyISAM keeps corrupting

    - by Jonathon
We have an application that is used by remote, mobile workers. It intalls WAMP (Server2Go) on a laptop and uses MySQL to store data locally. All tables are MyISAM. Once a day, the workers sync the database to our central server via HTTP scripts that query the data and post it to our site. The problem is that many of these laptop database tables are corrupting continually. It appears that MySQL acts like it saves the information (I don't get any query errors), but the table gets corrupt. I have to repair the table constantly (which removes several rows of data in the process). Does anyone have any ideas about how to work around this problem? Would it be wise to switch to InnoDB on the laptops? How about a different database system altogether. I have looked at MySQL Embedded, but it appears to be the same engine as the regular MySQL.

  • Webserver max CPU when apache and MYSQL are ran together

    - by Tim
This website has been running fine without issues, Recently it went down. After some investigation it looks like the combo of MYSQL and Apache bring the box to its knees. Apache can run find serving static web pages and MYSQL can run fine when the website isn't working. As soon as the website is enabled with SQL running the CPU on the box remains at 100%. Picture of the usage: http://i.stack.imgur.com/GG2NC.png I've checked the sql database for errors, tried tuning nearly every parameter in apache/sql's conf file for performance. The server is a redhat based box running the latest software packages. Any help/suggestions are welcome. • problems installing mysql and phpmyadmin to localhost

    - by Joel
Hi guys, I know there have been many similar questions, but as far as I can tell, most of the other people have gotten further than I have... I'm trying to get a WAMP setup happening. I've got PHP and Apache running and talking to each other. PHP is in c:\PHP Apache is in it's default program files folder. mySQL is in it's default install location. I have localhost setup at D:\public_html\ I'm able to navigate to localhost and see html and php files. But I have a simple mySQL test file: <?php // hostname or ip of server (for local testing, localhost should work) $dbServer='localhost'; // username and password to log onto db server $dbUser='root'; $dbPass=''; // name of database $dbName='test'; $link = mysql_connect("$dbServer", "$dbUser", "$dbPass") or die("Could not connect"); print "Connected successfully<br>"; mysql_select_db("$dbName") or die("Could not select database"); print "Database selected successfully<br>"; // close connection mysql_close($link); ?> When I try and open this, I get "could not connect" Now, I haven't even created a database yet, because I can't log into mySQL with phpmyadmin-so I think I've done something wrong in my mySQL install because they aren't talking to each other. I guess my main question is how do I first create a database in mySQL to be sure I have even installed it correctly?

  • Updated my WAMP Server and MySQL is eating up 580mB of memory

    - by Jon
I updated my dev-box's WAMPSERVER, and along with updating PHP and Apache, MySQL updated to '5.6.12'. After doing that, I copied the data folder from my old (5.1.36) install to the new one and now MySQL takes up 580mB which is way too much, since I'm the only person using it (Locally) and there are only 20 or so databases on it, none of which have 'memory' tables. • MySQL Server Not Starting on Boot

    - by Brian
I have installed MySQL on a RHEL 5 server and I'm wanting to set it up so that the server starts on boot. I've ran the "chkconfig --list mysqld" command and it's currently running on levels 3, 4 and 5. However, when I reboot the server, no mysqld process is started. I've also tried manually starting the server by executing "/usr/bin/mysqld_safe" and I get the following output: Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql STOPPING server from pid file /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid 100319 10:31:30 mysqld ended I looked in /var/log/mysqld.log and I found the following: 100319 10:29:01 mysqld started 100319 10:29:02 InnoDB: Started; log sequence number 0 29752204 100319 10:29:02 [ERROR] Can't start server : Bind on unix socket: Permission denied 100319 10:29:02 [ERROR] Do you already have another mysqld server running on socket: /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock ? 100319 10:29:02 [ERROR] Aborting

  • Mirroring MySQL server with diffrent configuration

    - by HTF
I have to migrate MySQL server to a different data centre so I would like to create another MySQL slave server in new DC and then promote it to a master later on. I previously used LVM snapshots and Percona Xtrabackup for this purpose but this time I've optimized MySQL configuration file that prevents me from using these methods. Old server (backup): innodb_log_file_size = 256M innodb_log_files_in_group = 3 New server (restore): innodb_log_file_size = 512M innodb_log_files_in_group = 2 The Xtrabackup script and LVM snapshots copy the whole directory structure so the MySQL server won't start because there is a different size for InnoDB logs. Is there any solution to avoid a downtime in this case? I can't use mysqldumps as there is around 8000 databases so I would have to take the server down for a couple of hours. I was also thinking to use the old settings with Xtrabackup and then change it once the new server is promoted to a master - less downtime but I'm not sure if this will work? Thank you Regards

  • MySQL command appends '@localhost' to username

When using the command: mysql -h <hostname> -u <username> -p, I get the following error: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user '<username>'@'<local_machine_hostname>' (using password: YES) The problem is that it keeps appending the current machine's hostname into the username. Obviously, that user@<local_machine_hostname> is not correct. It doesn't matter what I type. For instance, if I type: mysql -h <hostname> -u '<username>'@'<hostname>' -p It does the same, only in the error output, it says: Access denied for user '<username>@<hostname>'@'<local_machine_hostname>' Is there a setting in a configuration file which is allowing this to happen? It's really quite annoying. I need to set up a tikiwiki server, and it cannot connect because during the step where you set up mysql, it keeps appending the local machine's hostname to the mysql login name.

  • Corrupt mysql system tables

    - by psynnott
I am having issues with the columns_priv table in the mysql system database. I cannot add new users currently. I have tried repairing it using mysqlcheck --auto-repair --all-databases --password but I get the following output: mysql.columns_priv Error : Incorrect file format 'columns_priv' error : Corrupt Is there any other way to repair this table, or how do I go about replacing it with a blank table? What would I lose by doing that? Thank you Edit (Additional Info) mysqld is currently using 100% cpu constantly. Looking at show processlist, I get: mysql> show processlist; +-----+------------------+-----------+-------+---------+------+-------------------+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Id | User | Host | db | Command | Time | State | Info | +-----+------------------+-----------+-------+---------+------+-------------------+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | 5 | debian-sys-maint | localhost | mysql | Query | 1589 | Opening tables | ALTER TABLE tables_priv MODIFY Column_priv set('Select','Insert','Update','References') COLL | | | 752 | root | localhost | NULL | Query | 0 | NULL | show processlist | +-----+------------------+-----------+-------+---------+------+-------------------+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 2 rows in set (0.00 sec)
