    I have a website using ASP with an MS Access DB back-end for storing mainly blog posts. My company has a very long software approval process so I am stuck with what I have (i.e. I must use Access). I use server-side javascript to retrieve posts stored in the database using OLEDB calls. Everything works fine except that I cannot read any tables from the database when it is open in the MS Access program. The page displays an error message about the file being in use. This could lead to significant downtime while I am doing any work within Access. How can I make the file readable by my ASP application while it is open in Access?

  • MS Access caching of reports / query results

    Is it possible to cache a query or report the first time it is run? It seems that opening a report will re-query the datasource. For certain queries, the data source does not change frequently enough that I'd be worried about a cache being out of date (users are notified when the database changes), and it would be much easier for the users to be able to open the report instantly rather than having to wait several minutes every time they want to see the data (though I realize if they close the file the caches will be lost - that's OK). Data comes from an ODBC connection to Oracle, using Access 2003.

    Hi, I added an Access database as a Data Source in VB 2008. I want to query this database and use the information in various ways throughout the program. For example, there is an Employee table with first/last names of employees. I have a combobox on my form that I want to display all of the employees. So I want to query the database for all the rows in the Employee table, and add them to the combobox as I go. I am familiar with SQL Syntax, so I am not asking how to write the query itself, but rather how to fetch rows in VB code (mimicking php's mysql_fetch_assoc and mysql_connect essentially) Thanks! Edit: Also, I want to know if I can query a DB if I don't add it as a data source (if I know the path name of the database)

  • One email user keeps disconnecting from our exchange server

    I have one user who keeps reporting that Outlook keeps disconnecting from our email server. All other users are fine. Our email server is running Exchange 2010 and the client is running Outlook 2003. The disconnection only lasts a moment. I have checked for logs on the client and Exchange server and can not see any reason for the disconnect, On the Client I get EventId 26 telling me Outlook has disconnected and reconnected but no reason why. Can anyone give me some suggestions of things to try and track down where the problem could be? --Update-- I have found the following log file C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Logging\RPC Client Access which suggests that it is a problem with RPC sessions.   • MS Access Interop - How to set print filename?

    Hi all, I'm using Delphi 2009 and the MS Access Interop COM API. I'm trying to figure out two things, but one is more important than the other right now. I need to know how to set the file name when sending the print job to the spooler. Right now it's defaulting to the Access DB's name, which can be something different than the file's name. I need to just ensure that when this is printed it enters the print spool using the same filename as the actual file itself - not the DB's name. My printer spool is actually a virtual print driver that converts documents to an image. That's my main issue. The second issue is how to specify which printer to use. This is less important at the moment because I'm just using the default printer for now. It would be nice if I could specify the printer to use, though. Does anyone know either of these two issues?   • Fastest way to move records from a oracle DB into MS sql server after processing

    Hi.. Ok this is the scenario...I have a table in Oracle that acts like a queue... A VB.net program reads the queue and calls a stored proc in MS SQL Server that processes and then inserts the message into another SQL server table and then deletes the record from the oracle table. We use a datareader to read the records from Oracle and then call the stored proc for each of the records. The program seems to be a little slow. The stored procedure itself isnt slow. The SP by itself when called in a loop can process about 2000 records in 20 seconds. BUt when called from the .Net program, the execution time is about 5 records per second. I have seen that most of the time consumed is in calling the stored procedure and waiting for it to return. Is there a better way of doing this?   • Converting plain text in SQL to hyperlink in Access

    Hello, I've just started a new job my first since leaving University and as part of this my first task is to convert a wholly Access 2003 database to an Access front-end, SQL back-end. The Access database consists of a series of front end forms to add or review staff data, as part of this there is hyperlinks pointing to a photograph of the employee and there CV located on a shared drive. These were saved as hyperlinks within the Access DB. I have since converted the data in the Access DB to SQL and stored it in a database for me to test on, now as part of the data conversion the photo and CV locations were converted to nvarchar from hyperlink. I've done this using SSMA. My issue now is that I need to have these text links displayed and working as hyperlinks on the front end hidden behind the words "Photo" and "CV", but am unsure as to how to go about this, as in the past I've only ever used SQL and not Access. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated and if I've not been clear in any areas please feel free to ask questions and I'll try to clear anything up for you.

    I am fully aware of DateDiff()'s inability to handle daylight savings issues. Since I often use it to compare the number of hours or days between 2 datetimes several months apart, I need to write up a solution to handle DST. This is what I came up with, a function that first subtracts 60 minutes from a datetime value if it falls within the date ranges specified in a local table (LU_DST). Thus, the usage would be: datediff("n",Conv_DST_to_Local([date1]),Conv_DST_to_Local([date2])) My question is: Is there a better way to handle this? I'm going to make a wild guess that I'm not the first person with this question. This seems like the kind of thing that should have been added to one of the core reference libraries. Is there a way for me to access my system clock to ask it if DST was in effect at a certain date & time?   • Return the Column Name for row with last non-null value "Ms Access 2007"

    I have a Table, which contains a list of league players. Each season, we record their Points per Dart. Their total PPD for that season is stored in other tables and extracted through other queries, which in turn are imported to the master table "Player History" at the end of the season for use as historical data. The current query retrieves each players PPD for each season they played, when they played last, and how many seasons played. The code for Last season Played has become too long and unstable to use. it was originally created, and split into two separate columns because a single SQL was to long. (LSP1) and LSP2) which work, but as I add seasons, Access does not like the length of code. In short, i need to find a more simple code that will look at each row, and look in that row for the last non null cell and report which column that last non null value is in. So if a player played seasons 30 & 31, but did not play 32..but did play 33, the Column with the code should be titled Last Season Played, and for that Player, it would state "33" in that cell, indicating that this player last played season "33" I will provide both tables and the query.. Please help

  • Wireless Access Point - Can't ping other machines on the wireless network

    I have a wireless access point (Netgear), and I have it setup so that it has an IP address in the current subnet (let's say 192.168.2.0, subnet mask of 255.255.255.0). The machine that it is connected to via ethernet cable has an IP in the same subnet as the AP. The machines that are connected to the AP via the wireless connection also have an IP address in the same subnet as the rest of the network (192.168.2.0). All machines can ping the access point, but they cannot ping each other. I don't totally understand why, because there is connection and all of the machines are in the same subnet. I realize this is a layer 3 device, but is there an issue because of this AP's lack of gateway capabilities? (i.e. no routing table, etc.)

  • Total newb having SSH tunnel and remote MySQL access problems

    I don't often work with linux or need to SSH tunnel into remote MySQL databases, so pardon my ignorance. I'm using Windows 7 and am needing to connect to a remote MySQL instance on a Linux server. For months I had been using the HeidiSQL client application successfully. Today two things happened: the DB moved to a new server and I updated HeidiSQL, now I cannot log in to the MySQL server, when attempting I get this message from Heidi: SQL Error (2003) in statement #0: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) If I use Putty, I can connect to the server and get MySQL access through command line, including fetching data from the DB. I assume this means my credentials and address are correct, but do not understand why putting those same details into HeidiSQL's SSH tunnel info won't work. I also downloaded the MySQL Workbench and attempted to set up a connection through that client and got this message: Cannot Connect to Database Server Your connection attempt failed for user 'myusername' from your host to server at localhost:3306: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 0 Please: 1 Check that mysql is running on server localhost 2 Check that mysql is running on port 3306 (note: 3306 is the default, but this can be changed) 3 Check the myusername has rights to connect to localhost from your address (mysql rights define what clients can connect to the server and from which machines) 4 Make sure you are both providing a password if needed and using the correct password for localhost connecting from the host address you're connecting from From Googling around I see that it could be related to the MySQL bind-address, but I am a third party sub-contractor with no access to the MySQL settings of this box and the system admin is assuring me that I'm an idiot and need to figure it out on my end. This is completely possible but I don't know what else to try. I've installed VM Ware player on my machine few days back but I don't remember if it happened just after that or there is some other reason behind it. EDIT:- I've disabled VMWare Bridge Protocol but still no effect. Please help me. PS:- I've used both wireless and wired networks. Network sharing is enabled and I can ping other machines but cannot access network shares. I get following message: \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have acess permissions. The request is not supported. EDIT (2):- Network Discovery, File and Printer Sharing, Folder sharing are all on.

    I'm planning to have a dual-boot on my computer. I have 2 physical hard drives, one 500GB and one 2TB. What I want to do, is have a dual-boot setup (2 partitions, both 50 GB) for Windows 8 and Windows 7. But will I be able to access the 3rd partition on the disk, or the other disk from both OSs? In this case, it would be really useful to access files and install programs, because I could use them on both OSs, as long as I have the same registry keys.

    I would like to access the office machine, which has a fixed IP, and is available only in its local LAN. Let say 192.168.1.100. I have a VPN with username/password connection and I am trying to access the office machine from another location, i.e., another LAN, which has the same subnet: 192.168.1.50. I am using MacOSX 10.8. I have checked the "send all trafic over VPN connection, but I think it looks like it doesn't care and is searching in Local. I do not have admin privileges and can't request to make changes to the network settings in both LANs. Is there any way to connect to the desired remote machine?

  • Cannot write to registry while installing Microsoft Access 2010 - Error 1406

    While installing I get an error: Microsoft Access 2010 encountered an error during setup. Error 1406. Setup cannot write the value to the registry key \Software\Classes\Interface{000C036F-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid. Verify that have sufficient permissions to access the registry or contact Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) for assitance. I went to regedit to check on the key that the error was talking about but when I clicked on it it says file not found. I'm using 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate. Any ideas?

  • Access denied on file system for System Administrator

    Hello Yesterday I got win32.Saltiy virus and did some damage before my Kaspersky suite caught it. Now I've cleaned all the viruses using Kaspersky but I believe the changes it did to the registry/policies are still there. I'm not able to have write access on the entire file system. It is showing up the access denied the error. I'm in the local system administrators group. I've tried removing and re-adding it (with a reboot). But still no luck. Any ideas on how can I fix this?

    I have a windows server 2003 computer that is accessed by remote desktop connection. To access the server all you need to know is the IP address of the computer. I want to limit the computers that can access the windows server computer to authorized computers only. The authorized computers won't have static IPs, so I cannot limit them on basis of IP address. Can I limit them on basis of MAC id perhaps? I won't mind using third party solution like Teamviewer or Logmein etc. So How can I solve this problem?

In step 6 and 7, I'm seeing timeouts while waiting for the reply from the server (as seen above). Running the same tracert many times gives varying output, sometimes the response is fine, but sometimes I get this timeout 1, 2 and sometimes for all 3 packets. The timeout always starts at the same server, netnod-ix-ge-b-sth-4470.microsoft.com. I've tried setting the tracert timeout to 10 seconds, but am still getting the timeout. Running tracert towards other servers does not give me the same timeout. Microsoft network technicians tells me that the problem is not on "their" side. Are these timeouts an indicator of a lost packet on the specific node which did not respond? Are the timeouts an indication of there being a problem, or is it normal?
