    I am writing a very high performance application that handles and processes hundreds of events every millisecond. Is Unmanaged C++ faster than managed c++? and why? Managed C++ deals with CLR instead of OS and CLR takes care of memory management, which simplifies the code and is probably also more efficient than code written by "a programmer" in unmanaged C++? or there is some other reason? When using managed, how can one then avoid dynamic memory allocation, which causes a performance hit, if it is all transparent to the programmer and handled by CLR? So coming back to my question, Is managed C++ more efficient in terms of speed than unmanaged C++ and why?

  • R: preventing unlist to drop NULL values

    I'm running into a strange problem. I have a vector of lists and I use unlist on them. Some of the elements in the vectors are NULL and unlist seems to be dropping them. How can I prevent this?   • Ajax DragPanelExtender drag an item from one panel to another

    I have a panel called "ItemPot" and several panels called "ItemBank1", "ItemBank2" etc. Currently I have dynamically added 5 items to the pot and given each one a DragPanelExtender so that those items can be moved around within the panel, however what I wan't to be able to do is to move those items into the banks and then save there new parent ID ("itembank1") to the database using C#. Does anyone know of an easy way of doing that? I have looked around the internet and I have found loads of ways of doing similar things using JQuery or Mootools but I would rather not have to use Javascript if possible, I know that might be wishful thinking lol.

    I required to write a small web application that allow customer to select predefined layout template in html and be able to modify it. The application need to allow customer to add block text to pre defined area and images. The block texts need to be able to reorder based on customer need. eg. move up , move down or move to sidebar. THe complete layout will be able to convert to table layout and inline css due to email program doesn't like div & css.     Hi, I have a sortable list like this one: http://jqueryui.com/demos/sortable Is it possible to get the start and end position of the element in the list, when it has been moved? I'm talking about their position number, in the list. For example, if I move element 2 to position 5 in the list, I'd like to assign those two numbers to variables.     I have a page with a ASP.NET DropDownBox control (HTML select) that's populated with some dynamic record values. When the user selects a record the entire contents of the page is updated to reflect the selection. If a user clicks a link and leaves the page and tries to go back, it pulls up the default unselected list, and they have to reselect it again. How would be the best way to retain their selection? I currently have the page set so if the url contains PageName.aspx?recordID=5 it will select the correct dropDown option. However I'm not sure how to change the URL's query string based on the selection.

  • Some little extra space is being added when a drop-down is on :focus

    My problem is that when I place :focus style for our dropdown lists like so: input, select { margin: 0; padding: 0; } select:focus { background: #FFC; } ...the dropdown with the focused selection suddenly has an extra spacing on all sides (1-2px spacing). See images below: It may seem unnoticable on the photos above but when you do a selection, the increase in padding/spacing cannot be missed. I already tried removing margin: 0, padding: 0, thinking that the :focus state might be reverting to the padded version but still the same. Has anybody encountered this problem? Only happens in Firefox.

  • How do I control an animation with a drag command?

    I want to play an animation when someone drags a sprite from it's default position to another selected position. If they drag half of the selected position then animation will be play half. For example, I have 15 frames of a animation for a projectile arm. The projectile arm can be rotated a maximum of 30°, if someone rotates the arm 2° then the animation sprite should show the 2nd frame, if rotated 12° then the animation sprite should show the 6th frame.... and so on. Also when they release the arm, the arm will be reverse back to it's default position and animation frames also will be reverse back to the default first frame. I am new on cocos2D. I know how to make an animation and how to drag a sprite but I have no idea how to combine them. Can anyone give me an idea or any tutorial on how to do this?

    In Javascript, we can call methods on string literals directly without enclosing it within round brackets. But not for other types such as numbers, or functions. It is a syntax error, but is there a reason as to why the Javascript lexer needs these other types to be enclosed in round brackets? For example, if we extend Number, String, and Function with an alert method and try calling this method on the literals, it's a SyntaxError for Number and Function, while it works for a String. function alertValue() { alert(this); } Number.prototype.alert = alertValue; String.prototype.alert = alertValue; Function.prototype.alert = alertValue; We can call alert directly on a string object: "someStringLiteral".alert() // alerts someStringLiteral but it's a SyntaxError on numbers, and functions. 7.alert(); function() {}.alert(); To work with these types, we have to enclose it within brackets: (7).alert(); // alerts "7" (function() {}).alert(); // alerts "function() {}"

  • Memory usage does not drop -- no leaks though

    I have UINavigationController controlling several views. One of the views is composed of 20 scrollable pages. Each page is a constructed on the fly from UIViews by adding buttons, labels, UIImageViews etc. When this UIView is popped off the stack, the memory usage remains the same. Hence it keeps rising if I keep pushing/popping that view. In my dealloc, I am traversing through all 20 pages and finding each type of object which got added via addSubview and then do a release on it but instruments says my memory usage never goes down! I am trying to use 'retainCount' to see what is up with objects I am releasing but I am perhaps not getting true picture via retainCount. For some elements retainCount shows 2 so I try to release that object twice but then app crashes. If I release it once it works but memory usage never go down :( Q1: Do I need to traverse find each element and then do a release on that element ? Why can't I release a parent object and all objects contained by it would get released automatically ? Q2: Is retainCount a reliable indicator ?
