• How can I prevent PerlTidy from aligning my assignments?

  By default, PerlTidy will line up assignments in my code. E.g. PerlTidy changes this... my $red = 1; my $green = 2; my $yellow = 3; my $cyan = 4; ...into this... my $red = 1; my $green = 2; my $yellow = 3; my $cyan = 4; How do I prevent this from happening? I've trawled the manual but I can't find a solution. Thanks!

• Can you recommend wiki, forum, blog & cms plugins for an existing Rails app or should I go the route

  Hello. I have an existing Rails internal app, that handles inventory, invoicing, order taking, labeling, data imports/exports, etc, etc. Now I need to add blog, cms, forum and wiki functionality to it. It seems silly to try to roll out my own solutions when there are already some out there. So I was wondering if people could recommend based on their experience: Are there good plugins out there? (Which ones you had experience with?) Would you rather recommend to go the route of engines, and integrate RadiantCMS or similar apps? (please provide recommendations based on your integration experience) Or would you just bite the bullet and roll out your own? Thank you. P.S.: Right now the app is Rails 2.3, but it will get upgraded to Rail 3 in a year, when most gems/plugins that it depends on will be Rails 3 compatible.

• Cleanest way to store lists of filter coefficients in a C header

  I have many (~100 or so) filter coefficients calculated with the aid of some Matlab and Excel that I want to dump into a C header file for general use, but I'm not sure what the best way to do this would be. I was starting out as so: #define BUTTER 1 #define BESSEL 2 #define CHEBY 3 #if FILT_TYPE == BUTTER #if FILT_ROLLOFF == 0.010 #define B0 256 #define B1 512 #define B2 256 #define A1 467 #define A2 -214 #elif FILT_ROLLOFF == 0.015 #define B0 256 #define B1 512 // and so on... However, if I do that and shove them all into a header, I need to set the conditionals (FILT_TYPE, FILT_ROLLOFF) in my source before including it, which seems kinda nasty. What's more, if I have 2+ different filters that want different roll-offs/filter types it won't work. I could #undef my 5 coefficients (A1-2, B0-2) in that coefficients file, but it still seems wrong to have to insert an #include buried in code.

  I need to access and element from within a frameset frame. For example if I have the following markup: <frameset rows="33%,33%,*"> <frame src="frame1.html"/> <frame src="frame2.html"/> <frame src="frame3.html"/> </frameset> How can I get some element from one of the child frames? I have tried this: window.frames[1].getElementById('someElementId') This results in a type error: getElementById() is not a function. Can someone assist? Thanks!

• jquery background image fade

  I am using jQuery to load ina background image that fills the page width / height. I have looked at a few other threads on Stack that suggest its not possible as a body element defined in css, but in this scenario the BG image is being loaded in by jQuery. How would I go about adding a fade in to this code to bring the image in with a nice fadein?

• Does this code depend on string interning to work?

  I'm creating a key for a dictionary which is a structure of two strings. When I test this method in a console app, it works, but I'm not sure if the only reason it works is because the strings are being interned and therefore have the same references.   I have two tables: Job job_id, <other data> Job_Link job_link_id, job_id, start_timestamp, end_timestamp, <other data> There may be multiple records in Job_Link specifying the same job_id with the start_timestamp and end_timestamps to indicate when those records are considered "current", it is guaranteed that start_timestamp and end_timestamp will not overlap. We have entities for both the Job and Job_Link tables and defining a one-to-many relationship to load all the job_links wouldn't be a problem. However we'd like to avoid that and have a single job_link item in the Job entity that will contain only the "current" Job_Link object. Is there any way to achive that?

• Is the offical Sun Java EE tutorial the best way to learn how to make Java web apps?

  I've been a web developer for almost a decade. I've mostly used classic ASP/JavaScript and I'd like to move into Java based apps. I have a decent understanding of Java itself (enough to know how to lookup what I don't know) and I spent some time doing minor work on a JSF/Spring/Hibernate app, but from what a trusted coworker told me, this application is the example of what not to do. I want to learn the really hardcore stuff (EJBs, HA Clustering, etc), but I know I have to walk before I can run. Is the Sun Tutorial the best place to start? Or is there an definitive book (like K&R for C or Gang of Four for design patterns) that I should buy?

• JNAerator Unnamed Union Missing in Structure

  I'm trying to get JNAerator to generate some JNA backed Java code from a C shared library and everything is fine except that it failed to generate an unnamed union nested inside a structure. Example: typedef struct MY_STRUCTURE { union { My_Type1 var1; My_Type2 var2; }; }MY_STRUCTURE; If I change the header to make the union have a name it will work. But for obvious reasons I can't just change the header without breaking the shared library I'm trying to use. Any solutions other than changing the header file and shared library to named union?

  Is there a way to convert data in an existing database into objects that can easily be put into a seed method? Essentially I'd like to let some people add lines to my DB via a form and then convert that into an object that I can re-seed the DB anytime I need to make changes. • Datasets do not regenerate code behind.

  So I was lucky enough to inherit a project where someone decided to use datasets as a model. The problem is that a column has been added to table in the database. Using the dataset desinger I added the column to the table and tryied to run the 'Custom tool' That tool is doing absolutly nothing from what I can tell. So is there a way to make the generated dataset code actually represent the changes that are made at the designer? Now I know why I have never used a dataset. :)

• Best free alternative to Versions SVN on Mac OS X ?

  Hi guys, Setting up some web development stuff with a friend, he's using Versions SVN (paid for by his company) which looks fantastic but is a touch pricey. I was tempted by SVNx but if I'm honest don't like the idea of using command line at all - much prefer a nice and easy to use GUI. I don't mind paying for it if I have to, but I was wondering if there were any really good alternatives? We'll be using Springloops as an SVN fwiw. Thanks

• Confused about theme function calls.

  I've created a content type that has a CCK text field. When I select the text field using the Drupal Themer widget it tells me the last function called was theme_text_formatter_default() , which I found in the CCK text.module It also tells me that it's parents were; content-field.tpl.php < theme_markup < theme_markup < node.tpl.php < page.tpl.php So I assumed that somewhere in the content-field.tpl.php was the function call to theme('text_formatter_default',$element) but it wasn't in there. Just print $item['view'] used to display the content. I searched all the project files for theme('text_formatter_default',$element) and it doesn't exist. I know it's being called by the theme function as I override it in my template.php and it used my overridden function, which would only happen if was using the theme_hook$. Wouldn't it? So how is it being called? It's not that I need to override it. I'm just learning how drupal works and thought I had it sussed until this. Something must be calling it. Also, the function theme_text_formatter_default exists in the theme registry and it's overridable (if that's a word) as I did so in my template.php and it displayed. It's all quite confusing. Any help would be much appreciated

• Ruby Dir.glob works on laptop not on desktop?

  I have a ruby shell script that works perfectly on my laptop, but Dir.glob doesn't seem to work when I try and run it on my desktop. Here is the code: sFileTemplate = File.join("**", sResolutions, "**", "*."+sType) sFiles = Dir.glob(sFileTemplate) Both machines run OSX 10.5 and are running ruby -v 1.9.1. Am I calling glob wrong? • Get the parent class of a null object (C# Reflection)

  How would I get the parent class of an object that has a value of null? For example... 'Class A' contains 'int? i' which is not set to any value when the class is created. Then in some other place in the code I want to pass in 'i' as a parameter to some function. Using 'i' as the only info, I want to be able to figure out that 'Class A' "owns" 'i'. The reason for this is because 'Class A' also contains some other object, and I want to call this other object's value from that same function mentioned in the above paragraph. Could also be: public class A { public class B { public int? i; public int? j; } B classBInstance = new B(); public string s; } { ... • SQLITE - INSERT does not return error but no data is inserted.

  I am attempting to insert data into a local SQLITE database file from a C# application. The transaction does not throw any errors but the data is not inserted. The same insert statement works from within a query analyzer. Do I need to perform a commit? Is there a Commit method? • acts_as_ferret with multiple hosts

  I've got everything working with ferret and acts_as_ferret for development (or localhost DRb), but I can't get my multiple host deployment working. All of the remote systems get ECONNREFUSED when accessing the port. On the ferret server, the daemon is listening on localhost only despite the configuration listing the FQDN as the host. I also tried switching to a UNIX socket to share data between the ferret DRb daemon and the app code but it too gets ECONNREFUSED. (The socket is available to all of the machines via an NFS mount). Is there a better way to do this or should I be looking for another search indexer? Thanks.

  I have an arraylist that holds a subset of names found in my database. I need to write a query to get a count of the people in the arraylist for certain sections i.e. There is a field "City" in my database from the people in the arraylist of names I want to know how many of them live in Chicago, how many live in New York etc. Can someone help me how I might set up an sql statement to handle this. I think somehow I have to pass the subset of names to sql somehow.

  I have a byte array that I'm encoding to a string: Private Function GetKey() As String Dim ba() As Byte = {&H47, &H43, &H44, &H53, &H79, &H73, &H74, &H65, &H6D, &H73, &H89, &HA, &H1, &H32, &H31, &H36} Dim strReturn As String = Encoding.ASCII.GetString(ba) Return strReturn End Function Then I write that to a file via IO.File.AppendAllText. If I open that file in 010 Editor (to view the binary data) it displays as this: 47 43 44 53 79 73 74 65 6D 73 3F 0A 01 32 31 36 The original byte array contained 89 at position 11, and the encoded string contains 3F. If I change my encoding to Encoding.Default.GetString, it gives me: 47 43 44 53 79 73 74 65 6D 73 E2 80 B0 0A 01 32 31 36 Any help would be much appreciated!

I am unsure how to prevent a prefix, for example if I am in domain.com/admin/orders or domain.com/user/order which are admin_ and user_ actions and the navigation menu contains links to pages displays (controller pages action display, **) when they are clicked on they are automatically prefixed by the current prefix. How can I set in the router file to redirect wildcards prefixes (ie. /pages/)?
