  Original title: Bug with Xisco VPN - it it necessary to connect via Cisco VPN using my university-account in order to go online for all wireless networks In order to gain wireless access to my university network, I had to download and install the Cisco VPN client. It worked fine under 11.10 and did so for two weeks on 12.04. But since yesterday, I am unable to connect to my wireless network at home. First I have to connect via Cisco VPN using my university account. This is quite annoying and I'm unable to download apps via the software center when using the Cisco VPN client. I really don't know what happened, because it worked fine for two weeks and I did not change a thing.

• No internet - please help?

  I just got Ubuntu and I am really really really a linux novice. I can't get the wireless to work? I played around with it until I saw it says "wireless firmware missing" - Hardware address 00:14:A5:6A:17:C2. On my laptop there is a button that looks like a little antenae that means the wireless is on. The funny thing is that this button does not seem to do anything right now - the light is not lit up and does not light up. Any thoughts you have on getting this going are appreciated!

• Installed Ubuntu on a macbook pro and am running into errors with internet

  I recently installed Ubuntu (64 bit, 12.04) on a mid-2012 Macbook Pro, and I've been having some really annoying issues. Chief among them is that my wireless doesnt seem to function properly. I've installed Ubuntu on this mac before, and again this time the drivers for the wireless card were missing. I, using something along the lines of sudo su apt-get update apt-get upgrade apt-get b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer A new problem I've been experiencing however is that none of the networks available in my home show up. I've been able to connect theto themm by going into "Connect to hidden networks" and typing in the network name and password, but when I restart the computer my network (let's just name it "Network1"), doesnt show up. I tried going into "Edit Connections" and it shows up in the wireless tab, but it is never connected to automatically or shows up in the drop-down menu. Any help?

I'm looking for a store to buy a suitable adaptor in locally and I can't find that particular adaptor - but I can see a Belkin F7D4101az. I think this is simply a newer model - but a Google search for "ubuntu belkin f7d4101az" brings no results - not even people trying to get it to work. Nothing. So I didn't want to purchase it without being sure. • How can I fix my WRT54GL's constant crashing?

  I have a Linksys WRT54GL wireless router (the old blue-and-black) whose underside indicates it is Version 2. I've noticed that, on wireless mode, if I am on a Skype call or in a Google Hangout, the wireless aspect will crash completely. In addition, if I am connected via an ethernet cord, my quality (that is, how my voice is received) tanks very quickly. I suspect this is due, in part, to my internet connectivity itself (I'm on Comcast instead of Verizon FiOS, as I'd prefer) but I'd like to stop my wireless router's wireless capability from crashing. I considered a firmware upgrade, but it looks to me as if I am upgraded. Short of manually running ethernet all over my house, I'm not sure what to do. How can I solve my wireless router's issues? If the answer is "buy a new router," then that's valid, as well, in my opinion.

• force connection using USB adapter

  Hi all I am new to Linux, so even though this is probably a simple problem it remains unsolved after more then 3 hours of googling :-( I run running ubuntu 10.04 LTS on an Acer Aspire 5520G . the laptop has a wireless adapter, but since I wanted better range I got an Edimax EW-7711USN USB adapter. now , when running ifconfig I am able to see both adapters where as the laptop native adapter is listed as wlan0 and the usb adapter is listed as wlan1. but listing available networks from the wireless network applet , all the connection are listed under wlan0 , the usb adapter is costencly listed as disconnected. this is what I have been trying to do so far 1) ifconfig wlan0 down - I got disconnected from the net but still was not able to get the usb to connect 2) used the wireless connection dialog to connect to a hidden network with the usb adapter - I was able to connect to the network but with no Internet access 3) disable wireless using the laptop function button - both wireless adapters where disabled can anyone suggest a way to connect to to the wireless network using the USB adapter rather then the built in one ?   I recently upgraded a friend's Dell Mini 12 (Inspiron 1210) from Ubuntu 8.10 to 10.04 netbook edition. After installing, and performing the available updates, I'm unable to detect any wireless networks (it knows it has a wireless card, but won't list any active networks). There also seems to be an issue with the display drivers: when scrolling, resizing, or drawing any windows there is a noticeable lag as I watch the screen redraw. As if there are no compatible display drivers installed. All these problems go away the moment I boot up a version of 8.10. But I'd like to keep 10.04 if possible. Are these common problems? Everything I've read suggest this is laptop should be compatible. Any suggestions? Thanks.

• Software centre and Evolution think I am offline using WICD to make wireless connection

  I upgraded to 11.10 yesterday. I use WICD to make the wireless connection because I have never managed to get network manager to make a wireless connection on any computer I have installed it on. But since 11.10 both Evolution and software centre are convinced I am offline even though I have a functional connection (I am using wifi now and both are reporting me offline, which I clearly am not). I am using an MSI WIND clone Advent 4211 B netbook. Network manager has never worked on this computer for wifi. WICD can make connection about 30% time (often returns BAD PASSWORD, first few attempts). XP of course works fine to make wifi connection. I have a I am happy to supply more information I just do not know what information might help. I have reported a bug against evolution

• In an environment with multiple WiFi access points, do wireless clients sometimes connect to both at the same time?

  This is more of a curiosity than a problem, but in this new office I have two D-link DAP-2553's connected in a master/slave array (this just means the master keeps certain configuration options aligned with the slave). The network is set to 802.11n-only, and each AP has the same SSID and WPA2 key. The only difference is that they are on different channels (1 and 11). The WiFi network itself is working well. Users can roam around and the signal/speed is fairly consistent. However, I notice that when I look at the 802.11 client list in the web admin page for each of the 2 APs, I see that certain clients are connected to both, for extended periods of time, but I assume they are only passing data through one of them. Not every client is seen on each AP, but at any given time the same MAC address of a WiFi adapter can be associated (and remain associated) with both APs. The client list auto-refreshes every few seconds so I believe I'm looking at the most recent rather than stale information. One of the WiFi adapters that consistently associates with both APs is an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 (laptop chip). Is it part of the WiFi standard that more than one association per WiFi card can be established concurrently on separate APS?

  My new laptop (Acer Aspire Timeine 3810TZ running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) is acting very strange on my wireless network. Below are the issues I'm noticing... The connection frequently drops. I see the icon change from 'full bars' to 'empty bars with yellow star (meaning no connection)' occasionally. Almost every website I visit (Firefox) hangs for a long time on 'Looking up www.amazon.com' for example. After a long pause, it finally starts loading the website. Neither of these problems exist on any other machines on my network. I also have a desktop running the same OS wirelessly and it works fine. I've run several Speedtest.net tests and the speeds are great (20MBit down/4 up). Results from pingtest.net are as follows: Line quality: D Ping: 46ms Jitter: 65ms Packet Loss: 9% These results are to a server that is less than 10 miles from my residence. The results on the other machines in my house are normal. Any suggestions? This is becoming very annoying as I purchased this machine primarily for browsing.

  I've already search for similar problems but they are so different from mine. these are the drivers http://db.tt/qFZlD5JD I'm having problem with this Additional Drivers once I click the Activate button it will start in downloading and installing but after that it will say Installation failed. Then the "Enable Wireless" will not be available. With the Software Modem issue is the same problem with the Broadcom. These drivers are working on Ubuntu 9 and 11 if I'm not mistaken. Only on 12.04 is not working. One more thing these drivers will enable the Huawei E165g E220. I've already tried other solution for the Huawei to activate but all didn't work. After a restart Enable wireless becomes okay, though. To all Ubuntu experts and masters please I'm begging for help. A million Thank You!.

• Why does my computer sometimes not identify my wireless network, or others, that it always connects to?

  I have a vista operating system. Sometimes my computer will not connect to the wireless network (internet) when I start up my laptop. This happens at different places on occasion, and it is very random. It tries to connect, but can not identify the network (it does recognize the wifi name). So at the end it connects, but with limited connectivity. It can not be the hardware because all other computers connect to it fine at the same time. And it happens at different places, mostly home, but sometimes at coffee shops, etc. And then in a day or two when I start up my laptop it is all of a sudden working again. (restart does not solve the problem). I have tried all the trouble shooting options windows offers, restarting the notebook, switch modem on and off, switch laptop wifi on and of, deleted the wifi memory from the laptop and reconnected with the password as if it was the first time, everything. If it does not work at one place it does not mean it won't work at another. Example it won't work at home, then I go to coffee shop and it works, then get back home and it don't. Anyone encountered this before?

• Sony VAIO wireless card not connecting intel 4965AGN

  I'm running a Sony VAIO VGN-CR410E, and recently moved it to Ubuntu from Windows 7. Both my home and work networks (which I maintain) run WPA/WPA2-PSK authentication for security. My wireless network card (intel 4965AGN) will not connect to them unless I am in the same room (kind of defeats the purpose of wireless).   I have an Intellinet Wireless 150N USB adapter (based on a Ralink rt3070 chip) in an Ubuntu 10.10 installation. The problem is, that it's dropping the connection after being connected to a wireless network for 10 - 20 minutes. I have to unplug it and plug it in again every time this happens. • 2 internet connections

  If I have a wireless and a usb internet connection on my Ubuntu 12.04 as in: At the moment, Ubuntu seems to only make use of the Wired connection which is the usb connection. Is it possible to get ubuntu to use the wireless connection without unplugging the wired connection? So basically, as will, I would like to switch between the connections without unplugging any of them while leaving them both enabled. Is this possible?
