  • How Do I Know the Memory Used by Apps

    - by user176890
Is it possible to know the memory used by any apps running on my linux server? I'm using the following command to know how much memory used by php-fpm. ps -ylC php5-fpm --sort:rss | awk '!/RSS/ { s+=$8 } END { printf "%s\n", "Total memory used by PHP-FPM child processes: "; printf "%dM\n", s/1024 }' Given the command above, I want to know the memory used by all apps with an example output below: PHP-FPM: 2.3gb MySQL: 5gb nginx: 200mb dovecot: 100mb memcached: 573mb

  • Monitor ASP.NET Session State Variables

    - by Dave Johnson
We are running a number of ASP.NET applications on W2K3 Server and IIS 6.0, and are looking for a way to be able to monitor ASP.NET session state variables (InProc) that are stored in memory. We are thinking there may be some memory optimization opportunities with some of these session state variables potentially consuming large amounts of RAM. Is there a way to accomplish this through IIS or Windows rather than instrumenting all of the individual Web apps with code to monitor the session state variables?

  • How can I monitor network traffic in an all Mac home network?

    - by raiglstorfer
I have an all Mac network consisting of an Airport Extreme, 1 MacPro, 1 Mac Mini, 2 MackBook Pros, 2 iPads, and 2 iPhones. The Mac Pro is connected directly to the Airport Extreme via Cat5 and the rest is all running via Wireless. Lately I've been getting prompted by Google to enter Capchas frequently. The message states that I might have software running on my network I'm not aware of. My wireless router is password protected using WPA2 Personal and I frequently change my password so I don't think someone is using the network from outside (but I've no way to confirm this). I'm looking for a relatively cheap (preferably open source) solution that would enable me to monitor and profile the network usage by machine and port. Can someone recommend a solution?

  • IPMI sdr entity 8 (memory module) only showing 3 records?

    - by thinice
I've got two Dell PE R710's - A has a single socket and 3 DIMMs in one bank B has both sockets and 6 (2 banks @ 3 DIMMs) filled The output from "ipmitool sdr entity 8" confuses me - according to the OpenIPMI documentation these are supposed to represent DIMM slots. Output from A (1 CPU, 3 DIMMS, 1 bank.): ~#: ipmitool sdr entity 8 Temp | 0Ah | ok | 8.1 | 27 degrees C Temp | 0Bh | ns | 8.1 | Disabled Temp | 0Ch | ucr | 8.1 | 52 degrees C Output from B (2 CPUs, 3 DIMMS in both banks, 6 total): ~#: ipmitool sdr entity 8 Temp | 0Ah | ok | 8.1 | 26 degrees C Temp | 0Bh | ok | 8.1 | 25 degrees C Temp | 0Ch | ucr | 8.1 | 51 degrees C Now, I'm starting to think this output isn't DIMMS themselves, but maybe a sensor for each bank and something else? (Otherwise, shouldn't I see 6 readings for the one with both banks active?) The CPU's aren't near 50 deg C, so I doubt the significantly higher reading is due to proximity - Is anyone able to explain what I'm seeing? Does the output from my ipmitool sdr entity 8 -v here on pastebin seem to hint at different sensors? The sensor naming conventions are poor - seems like a dell thing. Here is output from racadm racdump

  • outgoing DNS flood targeted to non-ISP hosts

    - by radudani
    Below is the specific traffic monitored at the network perimeter and originating from a user PC on Vista platform. My question is not about the effects of the flood, but about the nature of the source of it. Is this some known infection, or just an application went out of control? a standard NOD32 scan didn't find anything, as the user told me. Thank you for any hint. 14:40:10.115876 IP 192.168.7.42.4122 > 67.228.0.181.53: S 2742536765:2742536765(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.115943 IP 192.168.7.42.4124 > 67.228.181.207.53: S 3071079888:3071079888(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116015 IP 192.168.7.42.4126 > 67.228.0.181.53: S 3445199428:3445199428(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116086 IP 192.168.7.42.4128 > 67.228.181.207.53: S 2053198691:2053198691(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116154 IP 192.168.7.42.4130 > 67.228.0.181.53: S 2841660872:2841660872(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116222 IP 192.168.7.42.4132 > 67.228.181.207.53: S 3150822465:3150822465(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116290 IP 192.168.7.42.4134 > 67.228.0.181.53: S 1692515021:1692515021(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116358 IP 192.168.7.42.4136 > 67.228.181.207.53: S 3358275919:3358275919(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116430 IP 192.168.7.42.4138 > 67.228.0.181.53: S 930184999:930184999(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116498 IP 192.168.7.42.4140 > 67.228.181.207.53: S 1504984630:1504984630(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116566 IP 192.168.7.42.4142 > 67.228.0.181.53: S 546074424:546074424(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116634 IP 192.168.7.42.4144 > 67.228.181.207.53: S 4241828590:4241828590(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116702 IP 192.168.7.42.4146 > 67.228.0.181.53: S 668634627:668634627(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116769 IP 192.168.7.42.4148 > 67.228.181.207.53: S 3768119461:3768119461(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.117360 IP 192.168.7.42.4111 > 67.228.0.181.53: 12676 op8 Resp12*- [2128q][|domain] 14:40:10.117932 IP 192.168.7.42.4112 > 67.228.181.207.53: 44190 op7 NotAuth*|$ [29103q],[|domain] 14:40:10.118726 IP 192.168.7.42.4113 > 67.228.0.181.53: 49196 inv_q [b2&3=0xeea] [64081q] [28317a] [43054n] [23433au] Type63482 (Class 5889)? • Simple tool to graph memory usage?

    - by dbr
Is there a script that will show memory usage as a graph, for example as a pie-chart, with each process being being a separate slice? I'm not looking for something like Munin to graph memory usage over time, but rather show the memory usage per-process at a single point in time. To make my request even more obscure, it is for a headless server (so no X applications). The simplest way would be to write a PNG file, or possibly an HTML file (which could use Javascript to allow the filtering of processes, changing between graph-types and so on)

  • I need an admin toolset for Windows 2003 and 2008

    - by eugeneK
i know this is way too general question but anyway. I need few tools, will write down my tasks as sysadmin and if you have any to automate my job i would be glad to hear. I don't mind paying for software needed unless it is way too expensive. First of i backup all files on server at local/office storage. I 7zip all SQL backup files and then move them over network to centralized location and then FTP them from office PC which has no FTP server installed and cannot have one. Backups happen at 4AM at the morning thus i need to set time for compressing and afterward FTPing. Then i FTP all IIS web application as differentiation backup, same goes for VOD movies. Second tool i need is system monitor which will monitor all servers from themselves and from external location for CPU/Memory/Hard disk and other basic failures. This tool should able to execute Website address with parameters which will send me an email with all report on failure. Third tool i need is a way to get all Event Logs from 10 Windows based servers without accessing each any of them manually. If you know any solution, thanks in advance.

  • Script to monitor free space in Hdd

    - by s.mihai
I have a server app that crushes when the HDD free space it's a multiple of 4Gb (on a Windows Server 2003). In general i keep track myself o that weekly since i use the machine from time to time. Can you point out an app or script (i don't wanna install powershell, is this doable???) that copies some larger files from one folder to another to get the free space out of the multiple of 4Gb range. Best regards, Mike

  • Monitor the shell activity of a user on your Unix system?

    - by Joseph Turian
Trust, but verify. Let's say I want to hire someone a sysadmin, and give them root access to my Unix system. I want to disable X windows for them, only allow shell usage (through SSH, maybe), so that all operations they perform will be through the shell (not mouse operations). I need a tool that will log to a remote server all commands they issue, as they issue them. So even if they install a back door and cover their tracks, that will be logged remotely. How do I disable everything but shell access? Is there a tool for instantaneously remotely logging commands as they are issued?

  • Tool to monitor file size, file existence, parse xml, etc

    - by Artur Carvalho
I'm trying to find some tool that helps me monitor several things. What are some requirements: Shows results on a web page. Checks existence of files/folders Checks sizes of files/folders Can parse xml files Can have several status depending if it's for instance, after 9pm Ping workstations/Servers to ensure they are on or off create daily/weekly/monthly reports (pdf, html, csv) show daily/weekly/monthly scheduled tasks check if specific users are logged in a machine check which users are logged in in a machine I've looked into some solutions but could not find what I wanted. Usually tools like nagios are more focused in servers, and spiceworks is not so specific. At this point I'm using a little powershell script that does several of these items, but before losing more time probably reinventing the wheel, what tools are out there? Thank you in advance.

  • Monitor ssh on non-default port with Nagios

    - by obvio171
I just deployed Nagios on a Gentoo server and everything is fine except ssh, which it marks as "CRITICAL" because it's refusing connections. But that's because it's running on a port different from the default 22. How do I change it so that it monitors the right port?

  • SNMP counter issues with cisco RV082

    - by Chance
Does anyone else poll this router with SNMP? We are using firmware version: 2.0.0.19-tz We are having problems with the traffic counters, some of them appear to be implemented as 16 bit counter instead of 32 bit counters. The reason this is causing problems is that they roll over (at 65,000) to 0 in less than our minute polling cycle, really skewing our metrics. The counter for the Lan (interface 2) seems to be functioning properly, however interfaces 3 and 4 (WAN and DMZ / WAN2) rollover at 65000. • HP Proliant Servers - WMI query for system health

    - by Mike McClelland
Hi, I want to query lots of HP servers to determine their overall health. I don't want to use any packages, or even SNMP - I want to query the server health from WMI and understand if a box is Green/Amber/Red - just like the HP Management Home Page. This MUST be possible - but I can't find any documentation... Oh yes, and the servers are running Windows Server 2003/8. Help!! Mike

  • How to reset KDE System Monitor (KSysGuard)

    - by Deltik
Something went wrong while I was attempting to restore a backup, and KDE System Guard ceased to display properly. This is the correct display (command running from root: kdesudo ksysguard): This is the incorrect display (command: ksysguard): Here in the incorrect display, the menu bar is missing, and the tab "Process Table" is unclickable. I have already tried to remove the directory ~/.kde/share/apps/ksysguard/ but to no avail. My question: How do I restore KSysGuard back to factory defaults/normal functionality?

  • Shinken - Anyone using it?

    - by Marco Ramos
I've recently discovered Shinken, which a new implementation of Nagios using python. Shinken "divides" Nagios in 5 different types of agents, each one performing separated tasks. I haven't tried it yet but for what I've seen the whole architecture idea seems great to me (it works the Unix way: one process, one task), but the project seems a little "green" yet. So, has anyone tried Shinken? What's your opinion?

  • ICMP Data Field Modified - What does it Mean?

    - by Lucretius
Normal ICMP Data fields are composed of a pretty standard 32 byte string of alphabet characters. abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwabcdefghi I have captured a series of ICMP echo requests using WireShark with a modified Data field and I have no idea what it means. (Underscores represent spaces.) abcdefghijklmnopprstuvwxyzabcdefghi abcdefghijklmnoparstuvwxyzabcdefghi __abcdefghijklmnopsrstuvwxyzabcdefghi __abcdefghijklmnopsrstuvwxyzabcdefghi __abcdefghijklmnopwrstuvwxyzabcdefghi __abcdefghijklmnopdrstuvwxyzabcdefghi__ Note: The position of the "q" character The addition of "xyz" The addition of spaces before and after the payload When you look at the position of "q" horizontally it spells "passwd" which is a Linux/Unix command for changing a users password. Any ideas?

  • performance monitor in iis 7 to monitor which website is using most resources (asp.net)

    - by Karl Cassar
I am using Windows Server 2008 R2 and IIS 7.5, and am hosting multiple websites on the same webserver. Is it possible to use Performance Monitor to know on average which website is using the most resources? I've added a user-defined Data Collector Set in Performance Monitor collecting data for 1 day. However, I could not find any details which hint which website is using the most resources. Which counters are crucial to monitor websites? The generated report tells me that the top process is w3wp##1 - how can I know which website it corresponds to? I've also tried to add counters for ASP.Net Applications for all object instances, however % Managed Processor Time (estimated) is 0 at all times.

  • Looking for CPU/GPU Temperature Monitor with Live Logging

    - by Nick Gotch
I'm looking for a CPU/GPU temperature monitor with live logging that's also free. This question recommended some good software but doesn't meet my needs. I tried HWMonitor and it works great except it doesn't have live logging. I need live logging because the system I'm using seems to overheat and shutdown (assuming it's related to overheating) and I'd like to catch the failing point.
