Alpha transparent PNGs not displaying correctly in Mobile Safari

I'm using some semi-transparent PNGs as background-images on various websites. These are usually something like a 1x1 image with a 30-percent opaque white layer. I've noticed that Mobile Safari does not display them correctly, giving them a darker/grayish tint. I've created a couple test pages to illustrate. View them both in your normal browser, and then on Mobile Safari, and you should see what I mean. This shows 11 red images of varying opacities on white: http://thecompleteworks.org/alpha-tests/index-red.html This shows 11 white images of varying opacities on blue: http://thecompleteworks.org/alpha-tests/index.html Is this a MobileSafari bug (I couldn't imagine so), or do I need to do something different, either to my pages or PNGs? (Here's how I create the PNGs: In Photoshop, create a 1x1 transparent canvas. Draw a white rectangle in Layer 1. Set opacity to, say 30 percent, Save for Web as 24-bit PNG with transparency.)

Why can't the Adobe Flash player send key strokes it doesn't handle to the browse in which it is run

I'm a heavy web user that uses the address bar constantly while browsing the web. I often use Ctrl + T to open a new tab or Ctrl + D to move focus to the address bar so it is very annoying that these shortcut keys do not work when a Flash object has focus on the active browser tab. I would happily give up all keyboard handling in the Flash Player in exchange for having keystrokes sent to the browser. In fact, as someone who has worked in software development for over 15 years it is hard to believe that Flash doesn't pass common browser shortcut keys to the browser or have an option to do so. So my question is this: Am I missing some option, some Flash shortcut key or some Firefox add-on that will alleviate my suffering?

Visual Studio Default Browser (MVC)

Possible Duplicate: Visual Studio opens default browser instead of IE I want to change the default browser used by Visual Studio for debugging. Normally the route I'd take to do this is right clicking on an .aspx file and setting the default from the 'browse with' dialog. Unfortunately, MVC views don't have the browse with option. What other ways can you set the default browser? EDIT: FireFox is set to my default browser in Windows, but VS still opens up IE.

Responding to the onmousemove event outside of the browser window in IE

In Internet Explorer 7 body onmousemove or document.onmousemove events only seem to fire while the mouse is inside the browser window, not when it's outside. Yet in Firefox the onmousemove event is called correctly when I move outside of the browser window. How can I setup an event to be called outside of the browser window in IE? Google Maps does this in IE. If you hold the mouse button down and move the mouse outside of the browser window you can see that the map still moves.

Cannot login to drupal in Chrome or Firefox, but Safari works

Problem: Login is not working in Firefox and Chrome but it does in Safari. Details: We just moved a drupal 6 installation to another host and followed some steps: Moved sites/site1/Themes/themeFolder to sites/all/Themes/themeFolder Made these changes in page-node-NNN.tpl.php files (searched all files in themes/themeFolder): 1) find: /oldpath/ replace: /newpath/ 2) find: oldsubdomain. replace: www. 3) find: .com/sites/ replace: .com/newpath/sites/ Then as I login it fails in any browser when the wrong information is entered but when it is correct it simply redirects to that users profile page...and then nothing. There are no admin menus, no edit buttons for content and it is a though it authenticated but somehow never stored anything that would help with the authentication later. The strange thing is that for 3 people with three different systems Firefox and Chrome don't work. But Safari does. We have ruled out that it is the database or old cookies. Any one have a good guess?

Hi all, When I implement OAuth in iPhone, I have a dilemma to choose Safari or UIWebView to open the Twitter pages for user authentication? I write some advantage and disadvantage of both case: Using UIWebWeb. The disadvantage is users have to enter their credentials in our application. It's maybe risky phishing. The advantage is this approach will not quit our app. Using Safari for user to authenticate (this approach automatically callbacks to our application) Addvantage: less risky. Autoplay an Audio File on Mobile Safari

Hey guys, I've got a little system dashboard web app that I've written, replete with alarm notifications. I've had it working for quite some time on mobile safari, but recently wanted to add audio to the alarm notifications to allow me to easily know when there are alarms and I'm not looking directly at the display. The alarm notifications are populated through a (relatively) constantly polling ajax request that pulls in and displays an alarm banner if alarms are present. I wanted to add an auto-playing 'alarm' sound as well, but no dice for Safari Mobile. I've tried using HTML5 and embedded objects with no avail. The Apple documentation does state that you can't auto-play an audio file and it must be activated through user action to conserve bandwidth. Has anyone found a way around this in a WLAN setting?

Scroll wheel causes browsers + Windows explorer to go back

I use Windows 7 on a VirtualBox VM on a Mac. Lately, when I'm using any browser (IE9, Chrome or FireFox or even Windows Explorer), use of the scroll wheel followed by any movement of the mouse cursor causes the browser to go back. Very annoying. This happens when I use the scroll wheel on a USB connected mouse (brand/model unknown, since I don't have it in front of me as I write this) or when I use two-finger scrolling on the trackpad when no mouse is connected. When I connect from my VM to a remote Windows box (Windows Server 2008), I experience the same problem. I have tried rebooting the VM to no avail. I am not sure when the problem started exactly. It may or may not have been after I connected the USB mouse for the first time, but trying to unplug it and then rebooting didn't help. I have tried to google for a solution, but all I've found are people who accidentally pressed the shift key while scrolling, which will cause the browser to go backward or forward in the browser history. This however is not the problem I'm having. To be clear, in my case the browser only goes back when I move the mouse after I've used the scroll wheel. I'm at my wits end :(

HTML5 enabled browser for Windows Mobile 6

I did some research on Google but I couldn't find any HTML5 browser for Windows Mobile 6. The main resource I'm looking for in HTML5 is WebDatabase and/or localStorage. With a little research I found Iris (http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-iris-browser.html), a Webkit based browser with some HTML5 features, but localStorage and Web Database doesn't work on it. Does anyone know any browser with storage capability for Windows Mobile 6?

Bottom of page gets cut off in Safari

I can't figure out why this page: http://wohf.squarespace.com/newsletter/ gets cut off at the bottom in safari, seems to work fine in all other browsers (as far as I found so far)!! I am using some jquery and css for the sidebar and the content to match heights and for the canvas to run top to bottom with the footer always at the very bottom of the page. everything is working (as far as I can tell so far) on the rest of the site, the problem is only on this newsletter page and only in safari. Can anyone see the problem?

Javascript: replacing newlines with <br/> working in FF and SAFARI and not working in IE

I was thinking that replacing \n with with javascript was quite a simple task, but it seems not to be so. Posts in Ask Ben or StackOverflow suggest that something as simple as: dst= dst.replace (/\n/g, "<br/>"); $("div.descr").html(dst); will get the job done. Indeed, this work in FF and Safari but not in IE. Text has been created in a textarea and then stored in a database, then retrieved without further processing. It works using FF on windows and Safari on Mac. IE on windows, nada. Is it a major bug in my head? Is it a JQuery issue? Have some idea about how to solve this? And possible reason for? Many thanks

Jmeter- HTTP Cache Manager, Unable to cache everything what it is being cached by Browser

I used HTTP Chache Manager to Cache files which are being cached in browser. I am successful of doing it for some of the pages. Number of files being cached in Jmeter is equal to Number of files being cached by browser. But in some cases : I found number files being cached is lesser than the files being cached by browser. Using Jmeter I found only 5 files are being cached but in real browser 12 files are getting cached. Thanks in advance

I'm using Windows 8 Pro with Internet Explorer 10 on, and I downloaded Google Chrome, setting it the default browser. After that I saw that when I click on the Internet Explorer shortcut on the Start screen it opened me IE10 in the Desktop. Now I want to ask: can I use the IE10 App in Metro Style without making her the default browser?

Is web-browser to Excel interprocess communication possible

Is is possible to write a browser plugin (one that requires the user to install something is OK) that would allow interprocess communication between the browser and a running instance of Excel (on Windows)? For example, suppose I want the user to be able to click something within their browser, and then have a piece of text drop into the selected cell in Excel as a result. This is certainly possible to do with a regular desktop application and Excel, but I'm not sure if it is possible with a browser, for security reasons.

How can I append and execute a script inside an iframe in a cross browser way (specifically IE!)?

Background: I need to load ad scripts after the DOM has loaded. Because many of the scripts use document.write() and other potentially bad functions to run after the DOM has loaded, I want to load the scripts inside an iframe. So when the ad needs to be shown, an event is triggered which does the following: var iframe = document.createElement('iframe'); iframe.setAttribute('id', 'iframeId'); iframe.setAttribute('src', 'about:blank'); var adContainer = document.getElementById('AdContainer'); adContainer.appendChild(iframe); var val = '<html><head></head><body>'; val += '<scr' + 'ipt type="text/javascript" src="' + url + '"></scr' + 'ipt>'; val += '</body></html>'; If I don't assign the html and body tags to val, the script automatically gets appended to the head of the iframe and fails to execute in FF. In IE, the script doesn't execute with or without the head/body/html tags. var doc = iframe.contentWindow || iframe.contentDocument; if (doc.document){ doc = doc.document } doc.open(); doc.write(val); doc.close(); I found this last bit of code here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1591135/why-does-appending-a-script-to-a-dynamically-created-iframe-seem-to-run-the-s. I do NOT want to load jquery in the iframe though, I just want to append a script and have it execute. My current solution seems to work great in FF and Webkit. However, IE doesn't execute the script. The script is written to the page, but doesn't start running. Is there a better way to append the script to the iframe so it will run cross browser? Or is it possible to tell IE to run the script? I know that I could load an external document with the ad script via the iframe, but I don't want to make the extra call to my server if I can do this dynamically. Also, I've tried using appendChild() on the iframe's body to insert the script, but since the script element is created outside the iframe's DOM this doesn't seem to work.

YAHOO.util.Connect.asyncRequest does not work in Safari

When I request a webpage using YAHOO.util.Connect.asyncRequest in Safari I always get Communication Failure message in callback's failure properties statusText. The same method works in IE. What could be wrong here? Here is the code. When the code is executed I always get two alerts: "Three" and "communications failure undefined" (corresponding to the second alert in the failure part below.) Also when I attach the debugger and put break point in the SAProvision.aspx's page load event, the break point is not hit. So it is sure that in safari the page is not being called. I can't get it to work in FF/Safari; it works great in IE, but FF/Safari won't play ball.. orensanz.org/photos.html would very much appreciate some suggestions.. supposedly there's a google group (forum) for this thing (can't post url.. this thing limits how many urls u can include in a post, it's linked to from their home pg (url above.. oh brother..) but when you link to it you land on a pg that says they've been booted out b/c they violated google's terms of service....;-) thank you..

problem in playing mp4 video in safari

I have a particular link to a video file in server. when i load the safari through [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://mydomain/category/2.mp4"]]; simulator pops out an alert message saying that "Cannot Play MOVIE.. Server is not correctly configured"....... Even I tried using the mediaPlayer framework - MPMoviePlayerController and loading it with th e url-"http://mydomain/category/2.mp4" but it didnt play out. when i paste the same url in the 10.5 leopards safari it plays out smoothly.. What may be the reason behind it.?

Mobile Safari text selection after input field focus

I have some legacy html that needs to work on old and new browsers (down to IE7) as well as the iPad. The iPad is the biggest issues because of how text selection is handled. On a page there is a textarea as well as some text instructions. The instructions are in a <div> and the user needs to be able to select the instructions. The problem is that once focus is placed in the textarea, the user cannot subsequently select the text instructions in the <div>. This is because the text cannot receive focus. According to the Safari Web Content Guide: Handling Events (especially, "Making Elements Clickable"), you can add a onclick event handler to the div you want to receive focus. This solution works (although it is not ideal) in iOS 6x but it does not work in iOS 5x. Does anyone have a suggestion that minimizes changes to our existing code and produces consistant user interaction. Android openvpn + zeroconf browser sending mdns query packets over eth0 instead of tap0 interface on wifi

On an android device, I am connecting to a remote network using openvpn for performing service discovery. WORKING CASE: After the device is camped on 3g/4g and after connecting to remote network by openvpn, when the zeroconf browser is launched, I can see the mdns query packets being send through the tap0 interface resulting into rendering of services on the browser. From the tcpdump captured on the device, I can see that the mdns query packets are send to tap0 interface. tap0 ip: 192.168.11.200 Route table information: Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 76.26.112.234 10.179.240.1 255.255.255.255 UGH 0 0 0 pdpbr1 10.179.240.1 * 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 pdpbr1 32.1.72.136 * 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 pdpbr0 10.179.240.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 pdpbr1 192.168.11.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 tap0 default 192.168.11.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 tap0 NOT WORKING CASE: However, after switching on the wifi and connecting it to remote network, when the zeroconf browser is launched, instead of sending the mdns query packets to tap0 interface; these packets are being send to eth0 interface due to which we cannot see the services. Possible Duplicate: So now Google has said no to old browsers when can the rest of us follow suit? Normally a SO browser but this question doesn't fit there, hopefully it fits here. I just want to ask from web designers' point of view if it's wrong to not care about supporting Internet Explorer or older browsers. The site I'm designing looks great in all browsers except IE9-. There are certain things that IE doesn't support or behave like other browsers; AJAX, JQuery, webkit stuff, some CSS styles, drop-and-drop files from OS etc etc, but it all works great in Safari, FireFox, Chrome etc. Should I be that concerned? I know there are several people that use IE, but it's limitations have just been causing me more work by having to come up with workarounds. From what I've read, many of the issues I've been having should be solved with IE10, but not everybody keeps up to date. I know of several people who are still using IE6! Again, I'm hoping this is the right place to ask a question like this, and if not, please point me to the right stack exchange site instead of just downvoting me. Thanks!

Is there a market for a Text-based empire-building game?

I am working on building a text-based in-browser empire building game. The screen will be split into a console and an EXTREMELY rough vector map of your empire (just squares in a bigger square). Commands such as building and expanding would be typed into the console and automatically reflected in the map. Would there be any market for such a game? Would anyone want to play? To clarify, it would be online and everyone's empire would be in the same 'world'.
