  • Eclipse Debug Mode disrupting SQL Server 2005 Stored Procedure access

    We have a strange problem in our team. When a developer is using Eclipse in Debug mode, SQL Server 2005 blocks other developers from accessing a stored procedure. Debug session typically involves opening Hibernate session to persist an entity which could be accessing a stored procedure used for Primary key generation. Debugging is done in business logic code and rarely in JDBC stored procedure call. Is there any way to configure SQL server or the stored procedure so that other developers are not blocked?

Either way, I'm currently SOL. :) I want to be able to use an extension method to set properties on a class, but that class may (or may not) be updated on a non-UI thread, and derives from a class the enforces updates to be on the UI thread (which implements INotifyPropertyChanged, etc).     Hi All, I would like to do a 'GET' (From the command line, ss.exe) of files that has been added/changed since a label, and place them in say C:\temp\db I have files a.cs, b.cs, c.cs currently If I label my project version1.0 then add files 10.cs,11.cs,12.cs and 13.cs I would like my GET to get 10, 11, 12 and 13...     Is there an application or API for using/accessing Visual SourceSafe (6.0) under Mac OS X? I'm currently using VSS Connect under Parallels for working with our company's ASP.NET site/s. I currently have my Windows drive shared and try to use TextMate on the Mac side to actually edit files. It would be nice to have the ability to check files in/out outside of my virtual machine though.

    How can I put a hard disk drive in stand-by or sleep mode in Windows, in a programmatic manner. Does the Windows API or any .Net libraries provide any functions to achieve this? (I am aware that I should probably not interfere with Windows's power management mechanism, but this is not something I intend to use in a production environment, it is a proof of concept for some algorithms).

  • How safe am I signing into Google Spreadsheets with yeroon.net/ggplot2

    I am impressed by what I have seen of yeroon.net/ggplot2 which is a web interface for Hadley Wickham's R package ggplot2. I want to try it out on my own data. The part that has me very excited is that one can use data stored in one's own Google spreadsheet as the data. One just signs into their Google Account so that yeroon.net/ggplot2 can access the spreadsheet list. I have been hesitant to do it. If I sign in whilst on yeroon.net am I handing over my username and password to a third party? It would not be wise of me to divulge my google password to third parties since Google is fast becoming my repository of everything. How do I know if Jeroon's application is using ClientLogin or OAuth? My understanding is very basic and may be wrong but nevertheless here it is. OAuth would be better since it does not actually pass the password onto the third party application.

When running this site out of debug mode through visual studio I am not having any problem connecting to the database through the web service and seeing all my data, for both viewing and updating. When I go through the normal web server for the same site, on the same page, no data is showing up. When I put a break on the error portion of the code above in firebug this is information I am getting in the image linked below. link text I am getting what appears to be a 404 error, but when I look on the server all of the files are in the right place... coupled with the fact that it works when in debug mode, I think I am slowly going crazy staring at these same lines of code trying to find the needle in the haystack. Any help or just a direction to look in would be greatly appreciated.

    When I wish to bind a control to a property of my object, I have to provide the name of the property as a string. This is not very good because: If the property is removed or renamed, I don’t get a compiler warning. If a rename the property with a refactoring tool, it is likely the data binding will not be updated. I don’t get an error until runtime if the type of the property is wrong, e.g. binding an integer to a date chooser. Is there a design-paten that gets round this, but still has the ease of use of data-binding? (This is a problem in WinForm, Asp.net and WPF and most likely lots of other systems) I have now found "workarounds for nameof() operator in C#: typesafe databinding" that also has a good starting point for a solution.

    Hello. I've got a really difficult bug and I can't see the fix. The subject drives me insane for real for a long time. Let's consider the following scenario: 1) There is a PowerPoint 2003 presentation. It contains the only slide and the only shape, but the shape contains a text frame including a bulleted list with a random textual representation structure. 2) There is a requirement to get bullet indents for every bulletted paragraph using PowerPoint 2007.     Various users are browsing through a website 100% programmed in C (CGI). Each webpage uses fopen/fgets/fread to read common data (like navigation bars) from files. Would each call to fopen/fgets/fread interefere with each other if various people are browsing the same page ? If so, how can this be solved in C ? (This is a Linux server, compiling is done with gcc and this is for a CGI website programmed in C.)   • Emacs persistent folding mode

    There are plenty of ways to fold code in Emacs and I've settled in on using the outline minor mode... it works great! However, I really want my folding to be persisted when I close and re-open files. It is quite frustrating to have folding set up in a file the way I like it, only to have that lost when I restart Emacs. Has anyone found a way to keep the folding state of a file persistent?

  • Safe deployment of ASP.Net applications

    Hi All, I have an asp.net app that I want to deploy safely (with as little down time possible). I would love to do something like blue green deployment but without the need for a second web server. So, I know I can use load balancing, etc but I need a quick and cheap approach. I was thinking of doing something like: Setting up another website (copy of original) in IIS, currently I use host headers to direct traffic across sites). I could then view the new site locally until the site is totally online (due to NHibernate start up and various other high intensity tasks this takes a while). Once site 2 is totally started I would then change host headers around giving me a much much smaller down time. So my question is. Has anyone done anything like this? Will IIS restart my app pool or application when changing host headers (making this useless)? Any other options? Thanks for your help all. Guido

  • Safe way to set computed environment variables

    I have a bash script that I am modifying to accept key=value pairs from stdin. (It is spawned by xinetd.) How can I safely convert those key=value pairs into environment variables for subprocesses? I plan to only allow keys that begin with a predefined prefix "CMK_", to avoid IFS or any other "dangerous" variable getting set. But the simplistic approach function import () { local IFS="=" while read key val; do case "$key" in CMK_*) eval "$key=$val";; esac done } is horribly insecure because $val could contain all sorts of nasty stuff. This seems like it would work: shopt -s extglob function import () { NORMAL_IFS="$IFS" local IFS="=" while read key val; do case "$key" in CMK_*([a-zA-Z_]) ) IFS="$NORMAL_IFS" eval $key='$val' IFS="=" ;; esac done } but (1) it uses the funky extglob thing that I've never used before, and (2) it's complicated enough that I can't be comfortable that it's secure. My goal, to be specific, is to allow key=value settings to pass through the bash script into the environment of called processes. It is up to the subprocesses to deal with potentially hostile values getting set. I am modifying someone else's script, so I don't want to just convert it to Perl and be done with it. I would also rather not change it around to invoke the subprocesses differently, something like #!/bin/sh ...start of script... perl -nle '($k,$v)=split(/=/,$_,2); $ENV{$k}=$v if $k =~ /^CMK_/; END { exec("subprocess") }' ...end of script...

  • Change the height of a list item when it's in edit mode

    I have custom list item renderers and editors for a List control. I need for the editor to have a greater height then the renderer, i.e., the row should expand(in height) when it goes into edit mode. However, even when the list's variableRowHeight is set to true, it doesn't do what I want: the height seems to be based on the height of the renderer only, not the editor. Is there any way to do what I want?
