• Update query for Access Database for certain Parameters

  Hi, I am using MS Access as a database and using c#, .net for updating some records in it. But it is giving error saying "No value given for one or more required parameters." There are 5 colums in Table and I want to update only 2, for that I have written the query like "update User_DTL set user_role_id = '" + _UserRole + "', auth_id ='" + _authId + "'" + " WHERE Id = '" + _Id + "' "; where _UserRole, _authId, _Id are strings. What may be the error. Do I need to give every parameter in update statement or there is some other way. Thanks

  Hi everyone, I am working with jsp/servlet project and i have to complete the module of access management to my jsps since I have more than one user with different profile. I defined a table in my database wich resume the profil and the url permitted like that: id_profil :1 url : http://localhost/...xyz.jsp id page 1 Now I am trying to let the menu modified appropriately to the id_profil of the logged user. So there are pages allowed in one profile but must be hidden to others. I have no idea since now how to realize this and it is so important for me. thanks for your help.

  After my experiment with MSAccess vs MySQL which shows MS Access hugely overperforming Mysql odbc insert by a factor 1000% before I would do the same experiment with SQL Server I searched for some other's people and found this one: http://blog.nkadesign.com/2009/access-vs-sql-server-some-stats-part-1/ which says "As a side note, in this particular test, Access offers much better raw performance than SQL Server. In more complex scenarios it’s very likely that Access’ performance would degrade more than SQL Server, but it’s nice to see that Access isn’t a sloth." So is worth bother with some db server when data is less than 2 Gb and users are about 20 (knowing that MS Access theorically supports up to 255 concurrent users though practically it's around a dozen concurrent users only). Are there any real world studies that really compare MS Access with other db in these specific use case ? Because professionaly speaking I keep hearing people systematically recommend DB server from people who have never used Access just because they think DB Server can only perform better in every case which I used to think myself I confess.

  Hypothetical: Let's say you are writing complex queries to a database and it is very important that the data you extracted is the correct result set (e.g., that you didn't mess up a JOIN by not using all the correct keys, and all the other things that can go wrong, et cetera). What would you rather use to do this? Would you write the query using Microsoft Access and its Design View, or would you write it in native SQL using a SQL IDE? • Copy of Access mdb database being updated by live database

  I'm trying to compute statistics for data held in an Access .mdb database. In order to avoid interfering with the live database, I'm working from a copy which I made by simply using copy-paste in Windows Explorer. The copy resides in the same directory, but with a different name. I'm using R and RODBC to connect to the copy of the file. The strange thing is that new data that is being updated on the original live database is appearing in my queries. This is despite the file timestamps of the copy not changing at all. It is also causing some slowdown in the live database. My understanding is that the .mdb files are standalone, or is this not the case? Should I have copied the database in a different way?

  Is it possible to cache a query or report the first time it is run? It seems that opening a report will re-query the datasource. For certain queries, the data source does not change frequently enough that I'd be worried about a cache being out of date (users are notified when the database changes), and it would be much easier for the users to be able to open the report instantly rather than having to wait several minutes every time they want to see the data (though I realize if they close the file the caches will be lost - that's OK). Data comes from an ODBC connection to Oracle, using Access 2003.

  In Access 2007 I have created a form with a textbox and a button. At the moment, when I press the button, I load a query with the textbox data passed as a parameter to the query criteria. I would like to change this so that all (manually input) options appear in a combobox (in place of the textbox). I would then like to pass the combobox text to a VBA module upon pressing the button. How do I do this? Similarly, I hope to output a different string from this module, and I hope to use this as the query criteria. How do I do this?

  Within an Access 2007 application, I'm creating a static report in .pdf format. I want to create it, then export the static report (not the data itself) to a Sharepoint Document Library. The intent is for it to be a public repository, no versioning. Each report will carry a unique name. I'm a seasoned vba programmer, but using Sharepoint services is new to me. How do I go about doing this? Assume I can identify the file name and location after I've generated it, and I know the Sharepoint library URL, and have permissions. Where do I go from there?

  Hi, I added an Access database as a Data Source in VB 2008. I want to query this database and use the information in various ways throughout the program. For example, there is an Employee table with first/last names of employees. I have a combobox on my form that I want to display all of the employees. So I want to query the database for all the rows in the Employee table, and add them to the combobox as I go. I am familiar with SQL Syntax, so I am not asking how to write the query itself, but rather how to fetch rows in VB code (mimicking php's mysql_fetch_assoc and mysql_connect essentially) Thanks!   Hi there, I have written a while ago an application used by multiple users to handle trades creation. I haven't done development for some time now and can't remember how I managed the concurrency between the users and so would have liked your advices in term of design. The application was as follow: - One heavy client per user - A single database - Access to the database for each user to insert/update/delete trades - A grid in the application reflecting the trades table. That grid being updated each time someone changes a deal. My questions: 1- Do you confirm I shouldn't care about the connection to the database for each application. Considering that there is a singleton in each, I would expect on connexion per client with no issue. 2- How preventing the concurrency of the accesses? I guess I should lock when modifying the data, however don't remember how to. 3- How to have the grid automatically updated whenever the database is (by another user for example)?   Hi: I have to update some fields of a table of access according to the value of parameter. If this paramter is "true" I need to update. Table idInvoice price percentageTax1 tax1 percentageTax2 tax2 total Example values: idinvoice: 12300 price: 100 € percentageTax1: 10 % tax1= 10€ percentageTax2: 5 % tax2: 5€ total: 115 € (result: 100€+10€+5€) Ok. If the parameter on that I have commented before is "true" I must update the percentages and then update the total. I need to replace the "old" percentages by new percent. Ok I can do it in 3 queries: update invocies set percentageTax1=20,tax1=price *(percentageTax1/100) where idInvoice=@number and percentageTax1=10 update invocies set percentageTax2=7,tax2=price *(percentageTax2/100) where idInvoice=@number and percentageTax2=5 update invocies set total=price+tax1+tax2 where idInvoice=@number . But my question is: is there any an alternative to do this in 1 query?

For example, if I search for a particular product, all the suppliers of that product will be displayed. I want to connect my supply field to different suppliers field in different tables so that when I search for a particular supply, all the suppliers for that supply will be shown. • MS Access Can't move to a different record?

  Ok, I'm really baffled. Here's the rundown: I've created a form with a subform. The main form is called FacilityInfo, and the subform is called BillingInfo. The forms are linked via 3 fields, AffiliateID, ClientID, and FacilityID. the subform shows one record at a time, set to show Continuous Forms, and AllowAdditions = No I can see that there are 4 records in the nav bar. But Access won't let me move off the first record. I've tried setting to Single Form. I've tried AllowAdditions = Yes. I do have a Vertical Scroll bar on the subform. It will allow me to scroll through the records, but I can only see them. I cannot move to one of the controls. Any ideas? I'm freakin' out! Thanks in advance!

• Understanding what needs to be in place for a server to send outgoing email from a linux box

  I am attempting to configure an openSuse 11.1 box to send outgoing email for a domain that the same server is hosting. I don't understand enough about smtp servers and the like to know what needs to be in place and working. The system already had Postfix installed, and I confirmed it was running via a > sudo /etc/init.d/postfix status I examined the Postfix config file in /etc/main.cf and configured a couple of items regarding the domain/host name and such, but left it largely default. I attempted to send an email from the command line with the following command: > echo "test 123" | mail -s "test subject" [email protected] Where differentdomain.com was not the same domain as the one best hosted on the server. However, the email never reaches the target account. Any suggestions? EDIT: In the postfix log, (/var/log/mail.info, there's nothing in .err) I see that postfix is trying to connect to what appears to be a different smtp server on our network, with a connection refused: connect to ourdomain.com.inbound15.mxlogic.net[our ip address]:25: Connection refused However, I can't figure out why it is 1) trying to connect to that server and 2) not just sending the messages itself... I mean, isn't postfix an smtp server? I did a grep -ri on ourdomain from /etc and see no configuration files anywhere telling it to do this. Why is it?

• Trying to use a SmartHost with my Exchange 2010 server

  Hi folks, I'm trying to use a SmartHost with my Exchange 2010 Server. SmartHost details: Secure SMTPS: securemail.internode.on.net 465 <-- Note: that's port 465 Configure your existing SMTP settings (in your email program) to: use authentication (enter your Internode username and password, enter your username as [email protected]). enable SSL for sending email (SMTPS). So I've added the smart host details to my Org Config -> Hub Transport. I then used PowerShell to add the port:- Set-SendConnector "securemail.internode.on.net" -port 465 I've then added my username/password (as suggested above) to the SmartHost as Basic Authentication (with no TLS). Then I try sending an email and I get the following error message :- 451 4.4.0 Primary target IP address responded with: "421 4.4.2 Connection dropped due to ConnectionReset." So i'm not sure how to continue. I also tried ticking the TLS box but stll I get the same error. If i don't use SMTPS (secure SMTP, on port 465) and use basic SMTP on port 25 with no Authentication, email gets sent. Any ideas? EDIT: Btw, I can telnet to that server on port 465 from my mail server .. just to make sure i'm not getting firewall'd, etc.

Does it make sense to add specific SPF records for each of the mail servers? Any other problems with the zone file? I want to confirm these things before making changes to my zone file. The file has SPF configured basically the same now, just without google.com and somehost, but I want to make sure I won't break things when I change it.

• Exchange 2010 issuing NDRs to Hotmail/Live & few other domains on receipt of message

  I'm working through a beast of an issue at the moment. Exchange 2010 single server on prem Hybrid deployment to Office 365 ESMTP filtering turned off on ASA Certain domains (most consistently, Hotmail/Live) cannot send us mail. At one point, we couldn't send out either, but I created a new Send Connector that forces HELO instead of EHLO. I turned on SMTP logging, an example of the failed inbound message connection is below. I've read that it could be that reverse DNS is the problem, i.e., the exchange banner smtp address needs to reverse-DNS back to the same IP. Since it's the default exchange connector, its banner is the server's name, but the DNS name of the MX record is different. I'm waiting for the PTR records to update to reflect the internal name as well. Is that the right direction? Is this all DNS or something different?   I used to be able to send emails using a gmail account & sendmail configured using one of the guides on the Internet, for example: http://appgirl.net/blog/configuring-sendmail-to-relay-through-gmail-smtp/ This is a small server and I've recently moved it to a different house. And sendmail has stop working. The only thing different in the network setup is a new router. Could anyone tell me why this is happening or what further steps can I take to investigate the issue? Thanks!

• exim4 seem to stop listening

  Hey, I have a strange problem with my exim4 configuration. I have a dedicated server running debian for quite a long time now, but I'm not really using it actively recently, so everything just worked due to lack of changes ;) However, recently, my exim4 smtp stopped answering on port 25. It does not respond through localhost, as well - even though it's set to listen on any interface available. Some things I've checked: ks:/home/trakos/Maildir/new# netstat -ap | grep exim tcp 0 0 *:smtp : LISTEN 12521/exim4 ks:/home/trakos/Maildir/new# exiwhat 12521 daemon: -q30s, listening for SMTP on port 25 (IPv4) ks:/home/trakos/Maildir/new# cat /var/log/exim4/rejectlog ks:/home/trakos/Maildir/new# cat /var/log/exim4/paniclog The queue is set for 30s only because I was running it in a non-daemon mode to see any output. Strangely enough, no suspicious output is given, netstat even shows it is listening on port 25, but still trying to telnet to it times out. The only things that may have changed recently are: I've got second IP for my server I remember that few days ago my spamassasin crashed, and I've started it up again So yeah, I'm really clueless about this one now :P I mean, I don't even know what could be failing here. Could someone give me some ideas what should I check next? PS: it has uptime of 442 days, so I haven't really tried rebooting it yet ^^

• Recommendations for good Unix MTA / groupware solutions? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Exchange server replacement that runs on Linux I'm setting up a Debian server, and one of the things I need on it is an MTA. I don't want to use something like Exim or Postfix because I want something that ties in SMTP, POP3, and IMAP all in one (a la Microsoft Exchange). Most MTAs also seem to be hellishly difficult to configure. Try and read the Exim documentation; you could do a university degree on it (I'm not kidding). When you can get an HTTP server like Cherokee which is easy to configure and has a nice web interface, do MTAs or groupware solutions need to be that hard? I'm aware that some people think "the Unix way" is to have lots of different interacting pieces of software (like maybe an SMTP MTA, POP3 service, webmail service, and overarching manager to tie them all together), but I think this is a situation where that just makes things a lot harder to deal with and one large software suite fits in much more nicely. So, I'm looking for good open source software suites that will run on Debian that: Combine (at least) SMTP, POP3, and IMAP Are easy(ish) to configure Have a nice configuration web interface or GUI Are not defunct projects I don't mind if it's groupware and offers calendaring too, but I would only be using the e-mail functionality for now. Another nice-to-have would be built-in webmail (if we're combining a bunch of functionality, why not?) Note however that I do NOT need Outlook support. I am not really looking for an "Exchange replacement drop-in". The suites I've found so far that seem to match the above criteria (and have appropriate licenses) are Citadel, Kolab, and Zimbra. I'd appreciate anyone who has experience with any of these giving me the pros and cons of them, such as how easy they are to configure and what their performance is like. I'd also appreciate any other suggestions for solutions that fulfil my criteria that I may have missed out.

• Allowing Sharepoint to relay email through Exchange

  I have written a Sharepoint 2007 web part that sends a field from a form to a specified email address. I have got the form working as I require, but at present it can only send to internal email addresses. Sharepoint's email functions use SMTP to send to our Exchange 2003 server, but because our Exchange server is configured to prevent relaying, if the To: address is not at a local domain, it won't deliver the mail. I don't want to open up our Exchange server to be a completely open relay. What I want is to allow my Sharepoint servers to send mail to addresses outside our domain. The following seem possible: Allow all mail sent from one of the Sharepoint servers to be relayed Allow all mail from a web application pool account to be relayed (I am not sure that the application pool authenticates to the SMTP server though) A combination of the two Can anyone advise on the best way of doing this? Is setting up a dedicated SMTP server on the Exchange server (not a separate physical server) the right way of going about this? EDIT: Note this is for Exchange 2003. There is a post on setting this up in Exchange 2007 which appears to have recognised the frequent requirement to do what I need. It doesn't give much detail on 2003 though. Can anyone expand?
