  I have a test list that I am trying to capture data from using a regex. Here is a sample of the text format: (1) this is a sample string /(2) something strange /(3) another bit of text /(4) the last one/ something!/ I have a Regex that currently captures this correctly, but I am having some difficulty with making it work under outlier conditions. Here is my regex /\(?\d\d?\)([^\)]+)(\/|\z)/ Unfortunately some of the data contains parentheses like this: (1) this is a sample string (1998-1999) /(2) something strange (blah) /(3) another bit of text /(4) the last one/ something!/ The substrings '(1998-1999)' and '(blah)' make it fail! Anyone care to have a crack at this one? Thank you :D

  I am helping a startup business to launch and I will be building or finding a shopping cart software for its website. There will only be one product for sale, but anytime someone buys a product, I have to use customer information like their zipcode and which distributor they bought from to calculate commissions that will go to the different distributors. All the incoming money will be sent to one sort of escrow account for a few weeks, and after that few weeks is over, I need to be able to "throw the switch" and cause each of the 20,000 distributors to get their rightful share of that escrow account, depending on the data stored that reflects their sales activity and commissions due. Is this something I can write a script to handle? Better yet, is this something an inexpensive or open source solution can handle, or something that can be setup in something like Paypal? Or is a better approach to somehow create a webpage where each distributor can login to and see their commissions due and initiate the account transfer on their own, but the web app restrict them from transferring more than what they're due?   Hi everyone, After reading the answer to this question, I learned that SFINAE can be used to choose between two functions based on whether the class has a certain member function. • Multiple undo managers for a text view

  Hi, I've a text view that gets its content from an attributed string stored in a model object. I list several of these model objects in a drawer and when the user clicks on one the text view swaps its content. I now need to also swap the undo manager for the text view. I initialise an undo manager on my model object and use undoManagerForTextView to return it to the text view, but something's not quite right. Strategically placed logging statements show me that everything's working as planned: on startup a new model object is initialised correctly and a non-null undo manager is always pulled by the text view. But when it comes to actually doing undo, I just can't get the behaviour I want. I open a window, type something and press cmd+z, and undo works. I open a window, type something, select a new model on the table, type something, go back to the first model and try to undo and all I get is a beep. Something on the documentation made me raise an eyebrow, as it would mean that I can't have undo with several model objects: The default undo and redo behavior applies to text fields and text in cells as long as the field or cell is the first responder (that is, the focus of keyboard actions). Once the insertion point leaves the field or cell, prior operations cannot be undone.

  Hi, I am trying to put together a test case for using Lucene.NET on one of our websites. I'd like to do the following: Index in a single unique id. Index across a comma delimitered string of terms or tags. For example. Item 1: Id = 1 Tags = Something,Separated-Term I will then be structuring the search so I can look for documents against tag i.e. tags:something OR tags:separate-term I need to maintain the exact term value in order to search against it. I have something running, and the search query is being parsed as expected, but I am not seeing any results. Here's some code.   Hi folks, NOTE: this is very very similar to this SO question, but I need some more help. i'm trying to make the following section in my .config file, but i get an exception when trying to access this section. .config file <configSections> <section name="foos" type="Ackbar.Mvc.Models.Foo.FooCollection, Ackbar.Mvc" requirePermission="false"/> <section name="log4net" type="log4net.Config.Log4NetConfigurationSectionHandler" requirePermission="false" /> </configSections> <foos> <add name="aaa" something="zzz"/> <add name="bbb" something="yyy"/> <add name="ccc" something="xxx"/> </foos> Ok, so this means i need to make two classes classes public class FooCollection : ConfigurationElementCollection { ... with my custom overrides, etc. ... } and public class FooElement : ConfigurationElement { [ConfigurationProperty("Name", IsRequired = true)] public string Name { .. } [ConfigurationProperty("Something ", IsRequired = true)] public string Something { .. } [ConfigurationProperty("IsDefault ", IsRequired = false, DefaultValue = false)] public bool IsDefault { .. } } Kewl. • FireLog: proper installation...

  I have installed the firewiresdk26 on my dev mac... and in the Tools/ directory is FireLog. I have run the FireLog 2.0.0.pkg installer on my dev mac, but the payload it deploys is installed in my /System/Library tree, as opposed to my /Developer/SDKs tree. so when I try to include the header iokit/firewire/FireLog.h it does not get found. am I missing something? or doing something wrong? or is this an error in the installer (either FW26 or FireLog installers?) I realize that the FireLog installer is intended to be run on the machine to be debugged remotely and thus it makes sense that the framework is placed in the /System/Library path, however none of the installers gets it into my developer path... I guess I just have to move it over there by hand, but before I do that I wanted to see if I'm just overlooking something silly and need to read the docs with more concentration or something... anyone run into this before? Sample stored procedure looks like: insert into something values(...) from (select * from table(my_package.my_function(99, 'something, something2', 1, 50))) a other_table b where b.something1 = a.something1; open cv_1 for select count(*) from table(my_package.my_function(99, 'something, something2', 1, 50)) So I am calling the same package twice. first time to match records with other tables and other stuff and second time to get the count. Is there a way to get the count first time around and put it into a variable and second time around I just pick that variable rather than calling the whole query again? Hope it makes sense.

  I have a page in which i can successfully use the jquery focus function using live... $(".comment_text_class").live('focus', function() { //do something... }); but when something comes into the page(ajax loading) the focus function doesn't work as should be using the live function... as suggested i used focusin function.. $(".comment_text_class").live('focusin', function() { //do something... }); but still new elements do not have the behavior... also i want to hide something using the live function but it doesn't work at all.. even for the elements in the page itself... $(".comment_button").live('hide', function(){}); is the focus and hide function implemented at all by jquery 1.4.2 or is it a bug... because the live focus was not working with jquery 1.4 version... At this point it looks like I'm going to have to use a regular expression library of some sort, which is really overkill when all I need is simple wildcard matching. None of the standard NSString methods seem to be available on the iPhone.

  This is the site: http://www.backpackers.rs Using "User Role Editor" i have user group that can only read and edit published pages so i can have as many users as i want in that user group and they all will have only one published page on their own so they can edit only that page. Now, this is how a user in that user group currently is seeing "edit page" page: http://i39.tinypic.com/rwuesh.png What i need is to disable all those things that have a red border around it + something with custom fields. So i need to disable these things for user in that user group: ability to change status of the page entire "Attributes" block is something that he/she must not see or be able to change ability to change something in "Discussion" block he/she shouldnt see "Page revisions" block i need a way to give those users ability to use only some custom fields. Currently we have 6 custom fields, and i want to give these users ability to only use 4 of those custom fields. i need to disable these users from creating new custom fields. I dont need complete answers for these things, something to get me started is really what i need. I have been reading codex a lot, but still didnt find something to help me with this, so basically any answer is more then appreciated!

  probably asked already but I couldn't find it.. here are 2 common situation (for me while programming rails..) that are frustrating to write in ruby: "a string".match(/abc(.+)abc/)[1] in this case I get an error because the string doesn't match, therefore the [] operator is called upon nil. What I'd like to find is a nicer alternative to the following: temp="a string".match(/abc(.+)abc/); temp.nil? ? nil : temp[1] in brief, if it didn't match simply return nil without the error The second situation is this one: var = something.very.long.and.tedious.to.write var = something.other if var.nil? In this case I want to assign something to var only if it's not nil, in case it's nil I'll assign something.other.. Any suggestion? Thanks!

• How to convince someone, that reading programming related books(blogs, so..) is important? [closed]

  Dear all, please, help me to convince, that no matter what you're doing, you need to read some stuff, try to learn something new. They say, that they don't want to sit in front of computer in the end of a day and they don't have opportunity to read in working hours, or they're too tired for doing something. Have you faced this kind of situation? What did you do? What if you want to help them? What methodology you'd suggest? How to open their eyes? EDIT I'm really concerned about this people. EDIT 2 Just to be clear, I'm not talking about one person or two. Some of them, just do their job good. Company doesn't motivate them to learn something. They're not bad people, not bad developers, they just need something or someone to help, show another view, but you can't just describe this new view or say smth like "You need to learn!" and that's it, you'll start to learn or you're not a good programmer. I started to learn OOP, DB structure 6 years ago and I had someone who had guided me. He told me to learn Java and MySQL, gave me some manuals and API's. That's how I started. What if they don't have that kind person or something else?

  Let's assume that our system can perform actions, and that an action requires some parameters to do its work. I have defined the following base class for all actions (simplified for your reading pleasure): public abstract class BaseBusinessAction<TActionParameters> : where TActionParameters : IActionParameters { protected BaseBusinessAction(TActionParameters actionParameters) { if (actionParameters == null) throw new ArgumentNullException("actionParameters"); this.Parameters = actionParameters; if (!ParametersAreValid()) throw new ArgumentException("Valid parameters must be supplied", "actionParameters"); } protected TActionParameters Parameters { get; private set; } protected abstract bool ParametersAreValid(); public void CommonMethod() { ... } } Only a concrete implementation of BaseBusinessAction knows how to validate that the parameters passed to it are valid, and therefore the ParametersAreValid is an abstract function. However, I want the base class constructor to enforce that the parameters passed are always valid, so I've added a call to ParametersAreValid to the constructor and I throw an exception when the function returns false. So far so good, right? Well, no. Code analysis is telling me to "not call overridable methods in constructors" which actually makes a lot of sense because when the base class's constructor is called the child class's constructor has not yet been called, and therefore the ParametersAreValid method may not have access to some critical member variable that the child class's constructor would set. So the question is this: How do I improve this design? Do I add a Func<bool, TActionParameters> parameter to the base class constructor? If I did: public class MyAction<MyParameters> { public MyAction(MyParameters actionParameters, bool something) : base(actionParameters, ValidateIt) { this.something = something; } private bool something; public static bool ValidateIt() { return something; } } This would work because ValidateIt is static, but I don't know... Is there a better way? Comments are very welcome.

• Blackberry development on scripting language ?

  From what I've seen, the preferred way to develop Blackberry applications is Java. Is this the only way? I'm dreaming of a rapid application environment where you can create GUIs (using the Blackberry UI components). Something like a port of Tcl/Tk on Blackberry... or Python/Tkinter... or something new, but similar. Does something like that exist ? (I doubt it) Can something like that exist ? (i.e., given the money, is it feasible/reasonable/...)

• Use of var keyword in C#

  After discussion with colleagues regarding the use of the 'var' keyword in C# 3 I wondered what people's opinions were on the appropriate uses of type inference via var? For example I rather lazily used var in questionable circumstances, e.g.:- foreach(var item in someList) { // ... } // Type of 'item' not clear. var something = someObject.SomeProperty; // Type of 'something' not clear. var something = someMethod(); // Type of 'something' not clear. More legitimate uses of var are as follows:- var l = new List<string>(); // Obvious what l will be. var s = new SomeClass(); // Obvious what s will be. Interestingly LINQ seems to be a bit of a grey area, e.g.:- var results = from r in dataContext.SomeTable select r; // Not *entirely clear* what results will be here. It's clear what results will be in that it will be a type which implements IEnumerable, however it isn't entirely obvious in the same way a var declaring a new object is. It's even worse when it comes to LINQ to objects, e.g.:- var results = from item in someList where item != 3 select item; This is no better than the equivilent foreach(var item in someList) { // ... } equivilent. There is a real concern about type safety here - for example if we were to place the results of that query into an overloaded method that accepted IEnumerable<int> and IEnumerable<double> the caller might inadvertently pass in the wrong type. Edit - var does maintain strong typing but the question is really whether it's dangerous for the type to not be immediately apparent on definition, something which is magnified when overloads mean compiler errors might not be issued when you unintentionally pass the wrong type to a method.   hello again Such a simple concept but I'm struggling to express it ... apologies in advance for my verbosity. I have a container div with a class, e.g., ; I want to use that class to do two things: add a class (e.g., 'active') to the nav element whose ID matches the class of div#container (e.g., #nav-primary li# apples) add the same class to another element if part of this element's ID matches the class of #container (e.g., div#secondary-apples) I assume there's an .each() loop to check the primary nav's list items' IDs, and to check the div IDs of the secondary nav ... though the latter needs to have its prefix trimmed ... or should I say more simply if the secondary nav div IDs contain the class of div#container?
