  • How can I make kml data in google earth look like google maps?

    - by celenius
I have a program that generates a .shp file, and exports this as a kml file. I would like to be able to display my output using the standard google map 'map' style (gray background, yellow streets, etc) in google earth. Is there a style guide or method that I should be using? Any thoughts appreciated - I wasn't sure how to structure this question. Thank you.

  • Model-View-Controller in JavaScript

    - by Casey Hope
tl;dr: How does one implement MVC in JavaScript in a clean way? I'm trying to implement MVC in JavaScript. I have googled and reorganized with my code countless times but have not found a suitable solution. (The code just doesn't "feel right".) Here's how I'm going about it right now. It's incredibly complicated and is a pain to work with (but still better than the pile of code I had before). It has ugly workarounds that sort of defeat the purpose of MVC. And behold, the mess, if you're really brave: // Create a "main model" var main = Model0(); function Model0() { // Create an associated view and store its methods in "view" var view = View0(); // Create a submodel and pass it a function // that will "subviewify" the submodel's view var model1 = Model1(function (subview) { view.subviewify(subview); }); // Return model methods that can be used by // the controller (the onchange handlers) return { 'updateModel1': function (newValue) { model1.update(newValue); } }; } function Model1(makeSubView) { var info = ''; // Make an associated view and attach the view // to the parent view using the passed function var view = View1(); makeSubView(view.__view); // Dirty dirty // Return model methods that can be used by // the parent model (and so the controller) return { 'update': function (newValue) { info = newValue; // Notify the view of the new information view.events.value(info); } }; } function View0() { var thing = document.getElementById('theDiv'); var input = document.getElementById('theInput'); // This is the "controller", bear with me input.onchange = function () { // Ugly, uses a global to contact the model main.updateModel1(this.value); }; return { 'events': {}, // Adds a subview to this view. 'subviewify': function (subview) { thing.appendChild(subview); } }; } // This is a subview. function View1() { var element = document.createElement('div'); return { 'events': { // When the value changes this is // called so the view can be updated 'value': function (newValue) { element.innerHTML = newValue; } }, // ..Expose the DOM representation of the subview // so it can be attached to a parent view '__view': element }; } How does one implement MVC in JavaScript in a cleaner way? How can I improve this system? Or is this the completely wrong way to go, should I follow another pattern?

  • Geocoding autocomplete bias not working

    - by chris
I'm using the following code to get the autocomplete functionality for an address input box using Google Maps API v3: function initializeAutocomplete() { var defaultBounds = new google.maps.LatLngBounds( new google.maps.LatLng(1.484016,103.575212), new google.maps.LatLng(1.233592,104.033618)); var input = document.getElementById('destStreet'); var myOptions = {bounds: defaultBounds, types: ['geocode']}; autocomplete = new google.maps.places.Autocomplete(input, myOptions); } The problem is that biasing doesn't seem to work as the first results are usually not relevant to the defined bounds (a country). I've seen a few apps working fine, so I'm wondering where the problem is. I came across the JQuery autocomplete plugin (http://code.google.com/p/geo-autocomplete/) which would seem like a good alternative since it has a region filter, but I'm unable to "install it" or use it because of my very limited knowledge (I learn by example). Could you please help me getting more relevant results with the above code or guide me through the implementation of the JQuery alternative? Of course I'm very open to other suggestions as well.

  • how to redraw markers without redrawing the map? google maps.

    - by vishwanath
I currently have a implementation where some markers coming from JSON list is shown, on a particular area, Now I want to filter these marker depending upon some criteria, I have done the filtering part, and got the filtered list. Now to render this markers on the map again, The current implementation loads the js with a key again, also creates the GMap2 object and draws the list of marker on the newly created map, which is really annoying. I want map to be there and only markers to be added and removed from the map. Any help is appreciated

  • Delete old map markers and load new ones?

    - by pufAmuf
    I'm trying to delete the old markers and load new ones. Here is the code I have that loads certain markers on page load - no issues here: (function() { var customIcons = { 1: { icon: 'redmarker.png', shadow: 'markershadow.png' }, 2: { icon: 'purplemarker.png', shadow: 'markershadow.png' }, 3: { icon: 'silvermarker.png', shadow: 'markershadow.png' }, 4: { icon: 'goldmarker.png', shadow: 'markershadow.png' } }; window.onload = function(){ var MY_MAPTYPE_ID = 'custom'; var stylez = [ { "stylers": [ { "hue": "#00ccff" }, { "saturation": -100 }, { "lightness": 5 } ] },{ } ]; var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(10, 10); var options = { zoom: 16, center: latlng, panControl: false, zoomControl: false, scaleControl: true, mapTypeControlOptions: { mapTypeIds: [MY_MAPTYPE_ID,google.maps.MapTypeId.SATELLITE] }, mapTypeId: MY_MAPTYPE_ID }; var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map'), options); var styledMapOptions = { name: 'Map' }; var jayzMapType = new google.maps.StyledMapType(stylez, styledMapOptions); map.mapTypes.set(MY_MAPTYPE_ID, jayzMapType); var infoWindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow; // Change this depending on the name of your PHP file downloadUrl("getxml.php", function(data) { var xml = data.responseXML; var markers = xml.documentElement.getElementsByTagName("marker"); for (var i = 0; i < markers.length; i++) { var name = markers[i].getAttribute("id"); var address = markers[i].getAttribute("id"); var type = markers[i].getAttribute("venue_type"); var point = new google.maps.LatLng( parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lat")), parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lng"))); var html = "<b>" + name + "</b> <br/>" + address; var icon = customIcons[type] || {}; var marker = new google.maps.Marker({ map: map, position: point, icon: icon.icon, shadow: icon.shadow }); bindInfoWindow(marker, map, infoWindow, html); } }); //BUTTON SWITCHING //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //BUTTON SWITCHING //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //BUTTON SWITCHING //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //BUTTON SWITCHING //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //BUTTON SWITCHING //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //BUTTON SWITCHING //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //BUTTON SWITCHING //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// jQuery(document).delegate(".topCanBeActive", "click", function( e ) { e.preventDefault(); jQuery(".topCanBeActive").removeClass("topActive"); jQuery(this).addClass("topActive"); switch( this.id ){ case 'all_activity_button': alert("search"); break; case 'events_button': downloadUrl("getxml2.php", function(data) { var xml = data.responseXML; var markers = xml.documentElement.getElementsByTagName("marker"); for (var i = 0; i < markers.length; i++) { var name = markers[i].getAttribute("id"); var address = markers[i].getAttribute("id"); var type = markers[i].getAttribute("venue_type"); var point = new google.maps.LatLng( parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lat")), parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lng"))); var html = "<b>" + name + "</b> <br/>" + address; var icon = customIcons[type] || {}; var marker = new google.maps.Marker({ map: map, position: point, icon: icon.icon, shadow: icon.shadow }); bindInfoWindow(marker, map, infoWindow, html); } }); break; case 'venues_button': alert("venues"); break; case 'search_button': alert("search"); break; } }); //END //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //END //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //END //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //END //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //END //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //END //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //END //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //END //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// } function bindInfoWindow(marker, map, infoWindow, html) { google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'click', function() { infoWindow.setContent(html); infoWindow.open(map, marker); }); } function downloadUrl(url, callback) { var request = window.ActiveXObject ? new ActiveXObject('Microsoft.XMLHTTP') : new XMLHttpRequest; request.onreadystatechange = function() { if (request.readyState == 4) { request.onreadystatechange = doNothing; callback(request, request.status); } }; request.open('GET', url, true); request.send(null); } function doNothing() {} })(); Now, I created a button section where if you press one button, a different xml file is loaded. Notice the section with the ////////////////////// However, upon clicking the button, nothing happens. The xml file itself is okay and loads the desired data. I also receive no errors in firebug. Any ideas why this happens? Thanks!

  • How do I detect a click event on a google maps PolyLine overlay?

    - by Tom
It seems to me that I should be able to do the following to detect a click event on a line on a google map: var line = new GPolyline( ... ); map.addOverlay(line); GEvent.addListener(line, "click", function(latlng){ alert("clicked"); }); The api reference says this is available in version 2.88, which was released in 2007(!?), so I'm assuming that's what I'm using, but I don't know how to confirm that. I also tried setting the {clickable:true} option explicitly (it's supposed to be the default.) I've tested in FireFox 3 and Opera 9.6 so doubt it's browser specific. I'm also using jQuery on the page. I have plenty of code detecting clicks on markers that works fine, clicking on lines would be really nice, can anyone enlighten me?

  • Emulate back button in multi-view TabActivity

    - by ZelluX
Hi, all I have a TabActivity with several tabs. Each tab corresponds to a specific view, and those views may further switch to other views. For example, one of my tabs displays RSS feed list, after user clicks one of the RSS feed, it will switch to a view displaying a list of articles, and after user clicks one of the titles, a full article view will be displayed. I'm going to add support for "back" button in my application. For instance, in a full article view, after user presses the "back" button, it should switch back to the article list view. And if user presses it the "back" button again, my application should switch back to the feed list view. My idea is to maintain a Stack<View> during navigation, and every time user presses the "back" button, the program will pop a View out of the stack, and set it as the current view. But I would like to know how to set current view in TabHost. Many thanks.
