    There are a number of popular web font services on the market today who "host" the fonts and serve them to your web page via javascript or CSS pointing to remote locations. For example http://webfonts.fonts.com or http://typekit.com However, there seems to be an issue when you're developing on a local testing server - the remote font services don't validate the font and return 403 access denied errors and the like. What workarounds are there for using remote services such as a hosted font service, on a local development server?

  • How can I track hits to areas of my web application?

    We have a growing web application, and we currently use Google Analytics and Chartbeat to track usage and engagement (although we're open to alternatives). Unfortunately, both are geared towards content-based sites where everything is about the URL. Our URLs contain object IDs, making them less useful independently, and causing us to grow beyond Google Analytics' 50,000 unique URLs per day. How can we track hits to areas of our web application, essentially ignoring parts of the URLs?

    I have an idea for a startup that revolves around a web app. I plan to incorporate a mobile app in the future but, unlike something like instagram, users will be more likely to access with a desktop computer. I am learning Ruby On Rails currently but wonder if, starting in the 4th quarter of 2012, I am focusing on a technology (web development) that is becoming obsolete. Should I dump the idea for something that revolves around mobile technologies and spend my time learning something like iOS development instead?

    I remember in 2006 we were working on a portal for our client Venetian, Las Vegas and the portal is full of AJAX features. One of my friend facing a challange to retain browser history with all AJAX operation. In terms of user experience it is an important aspect which could not be avoided in that scenario. Well that time we have made some workarounds to achieve the same but that may not be the perfect solution. Ok.. Now with Microsoft AJAX there are a lot of such features can be achieved with optimum efficiency. Microsoft AJAX has grown its features over the past few years. Microsoft.Web.Preview.dll is an addon in conjunction with ASP.Net AJAX. It contains a control named "History" for that purpose. Prevent Unauthorized Access to Web Sites and Applications 1.       Store content on a dedicated disk volume. 2.       Set IIS Web site permissions. 3.       Set IP address and domain name restrictions. 4.       Set the NTFS file system permissions. Isolate Web Sites and Applications 1.       Evaluate the effects of impersonation on application compatibility: 2·         Identify the impersonation behavior for ASP applications. 3·         Select the impersonation behavior for ASP.NET applications. 4.       Configure Web sites and applications for isolation.   • web.config overrides app.config...why?

    Hi, I have to DLLs: one with a web.config, another one with app.config I moved the connection strings from web.config to app.config so that it can be used by other DLLs. Now, when I call ConfigurationManager.GetSection("SomeSection") , the application looks for a web.config, when it should be looking for the app.config. It doesn't make sense why it does it because web.config is in a separate DLL. Can anybody explain this please?

  • How do I set a single virtual directory of my web app to not inherit web.config?

I am wondering how I can do this because right now when I hit it (mainwebapp.domain.com/virdir) it throws an error saying it can't find some dependencies that are listed in the main apps web.config (shows main app web.config in the error message), this virdir contains it's own little app that needs to just run standalone.
