• How to set Qwt path to the run-time linker in Xubuntu

  I've successfully installed Qwt in Xubuntu 12.04(qmake - make - make install). But now I need to set the Qwt path to run time linker of Xubuntu. In manual it's given like - If you have installed a shared library it's path has to be known to the run-time linker of your operating system. On Linux systems read "man ldconfig" ( or google for it ). Another option is to use the LD_LIBRARY_PATH (on some systems LIBPATH is used instead, on MacOSX it is called DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH) environment variable. But being newbie to Linux environment, I'm not able to proceed further. Please help me with this.

• Xubuntu LightDM shows blank screen half the time

  System info: (will be amended if any more info is asked for) My laptop runs Xubuntu 12.10. As it has a Solid State Drive, /tmp, /var/tmp, /var/log and /var/log/apt are set to tmpfs in the /etc/fstab file - in case this makes any difference. Problem My problem is quite simple. Approximately 50% of boot attempts end in the mouse cursor on a black screen (presumably LightDM failing to load), forcing me to restart and try again. I can access the CTRL+ALT+F1 terminal to reboot the machine, but it's very annoying having to boot and reboot two or three times before one works. Oh, and this problem is the same whether I use the Xubuntu or Unity greeter. Thanks for any help you can give.

• Deploying Django on EC2 using Bitnami Djangostack: WSGI script cannot be loadded

  I've been struggling to deploy Django application on Amazon EC2 using Bitnami Djangostack for the last couple of days. When I go to http://dewey.io I see the default bitnami page (/opt/bitnami/apache2/htdocs/index.html), however, when I open http://dewey.io/portnoy, I get 'Internal Server Error'. But it's known that if mod_wsgi is setup correctly, the DocumentRoot value from httpd.conf is ignored, thus, I should see my Django application when accessing http://dewey.io. Essentially, the main error is this - 'Target WSGI script cannot be loaded as Python module'. Two questions: 1) any ideas how to fix these mod_wsgi errors (the Apache logs are below)? 2) how to disable the default /opt/bitnami/apache2/htdocs/index.html page and show my homepage from django application when accessing http://dewey.io?   Just built a system w/ a ivy bridge CPU (Xeon E3-1245 v2) with Intel HD 4000 onboard graphics, board is an Asrock H77 ProM. I had loaded Ubuntu server 12.04.1 onto it, but wanted to fool around w/ gnome 3. I installed gnome-shell, which didn't work, then gnome, which did, but only loads on fallback mode - the video is recognized as "VESA: sandy/ivy bridge graphics" I tried installing the whole ubuntu-desktop shebang but it's still in fallback graphics. Any way to get the full eye candy?

• Dual booting windows 8/ubuntu 12.04.2, Grub doesn't appear and machine never boot in ubuntu

  i got a new ACER predator AG3620-UR308 which came with windows 8, so i wanted to run ubuntu 12.04.2 on it as a dual booting. To be honest, i've been doing dual booting for a while now so, i did the right thing. the box came with 2TB HDD. so i made 4 partitions with a raw partition just after the windows installation partition I always do manual installation so even if ubuntu didn't detect windows 8, it was ok for me. So i created swap area and finished the installation etc....Grub was install on the only drive there which is sda. After reboot, grub doesn't even come up.So it always boot in windows 8. I did repeat the installation process twice and yield same result. which is weird because this method always works for me so far.Even the laptop am using to write this post is a dual booting windows 7/ mint nadia installed the same way. Is there anything new in windows 8 that i didn't make provision for? Before starting the installation, all i read about was that , windows 8 should be installed first and ubuntu after. I went ahead and disable secure boot from the BIOS and enabled CSM (don't even know what it means) according to Acer custhelp site .   Background: I'm trying to set up my dad's new installation of Xubuntu 12.10 (I finally got him to switch from Windows :-D) so he can sync his Palm Centro on his computer. I installed J-Pilot, but the problem is that his palm isn't even showing up anywhere on the computer. When it's plugged in, it lit up and began to charge when I told it to try and sync with the computer, but it failed the sync and Xubuntu still doesn't recognize it. Question: Does anyone know how I can get his Palm to be recognized by Xubuntu?

• XFCE ~ Volume Hot Keys Not Working

  Just installed vanilla Xubuntu 12.04 LTS & updated on a ThinkPad E325 with Conexant CX20671 sound card. I notice volume hot keys work under Xubuntu DE but not XFCE. You can summon sound settings under Xubuntu but they are missing under XFCE. Also sound bar is greyed out though sound will still function. Muting/decreasing/increasing volume with hot keys has no effect. Is there a workaround? If not what package would I report a bug against?

  I am trying to get my PCI Wireless Atheros 922 card to work. Installed 12.10 instead of 12.04, enabled all interfaces... etc. I have read about the aht9 driver... The terminal shows no hw or sw lock for the Atheros card, nevertheless, it is still disabled.   Source: http://projecteuler.net/index.php?section=problems&id=11 Quick overview: Take a 20x20 grid of numbers and compute the largest product of 4 pairs of numbers in either horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. My current approach is to divide the 20x20 grid up into single rows and single columns and go from there with a much more manageable grid. The code I'm using to divide the rows into rows is void fillRows ( string::const_iterator& fieldIter, list<int>& rowElements, vector<list<int>>& rows ) { int count(0); for( ; fieldIter < field.end(); ++fieldIter ) { if(isdigit(field[*fieldIter])) { rowElements.push_back(toInt(field[*fieldIter])); ++count; } if(count == 40) { rows.push_back(rowElements); count = 0; rowElements.clear(); } } } Short explanation: I have the field set as static const std::string field and I am filling a vector with lists of rows. Why a list? Because the queue doesn't have a clear function. Also practice using STL container lists and not ones I write myself. However, this thing isn't working. Oftentimes I see it omitting a character( function toInt parses the const char as int ) and I end up with 18 rows, two rows short of the 20x20 grid. The length of the rows seem good. Rows: 18 RowElements[0]: 40 (instead of pairs I saved each number individually. Will fix that later) What am I doing wrong?

  After adding the line to /etc/haproxy/haproxy.cfg as part of creating a transparent proxy, source 0.0.0.0 usesrc clientip restarting haproxy starts giving an error ~# service haproxy reload * Reloading haproxy haproxy [ALERT] 230/153724 (1140) : [/usr/sbin/haproxy.main()] Some configuration options require full privileges, so global.uid cannot be changed. I'm already running service haproxy reload as root. What else do we have to do? Thank you!

• Occasional disk I/O errors in SQLite

  I have a very simple website running PHP and SQLite 3.7.9 (with PDO). After establishing the SQLite connection I immediately execute the following queries: PRAGMA busy_timeout=0; PRAGMA cache_size=8192; PRAGMA foreign_keys=ON; PRAGMA journal_size_limit=67110000; PRAGMA legacy_file_format=OFF; PRAGMA page_size=4096; PRAGMA recursive_triggers=ON; PRAGMA secure_delete=ON; PRAGMA synchronous=NORMAL; PRAGMA temp_store=MEMORY; PRAGMA journal_mode=WAL; PRAGMA wal_autocheckpoint=4096; This website only has one writer and a few occasional readers, so I don't expect any concurrency problems (and I'm even using WAL). Every couple of days, I've seen this error being reported by PHP: Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'PDOException' with message 'SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 10 disk I/O error' in ... Stack trace: #0 ...: PDO-exec('PRAGMA cache_si...') There are several things that make this error very weird to me: it's not a transient problem - no matter how many times I refresh the page, it won't go away the database file is not corrupted - the sqlite3 executable can open the database without problems If the following pragmas are commented out, PHP stops throwing the disk I/O exception: PRAGMA cache_size=8192; PRAGMA synchronous=NORMAL; PRAGMA journal_mode=WAL; Then, after successfully reconnecting to the database, I'm able to reintroduce these pragmas and the code with run smoothly for days - until eventually, the same error will occur without any apparent reason. I wasn't able to reproduce this error so far, so I'm clueless about the origin of it. I'm really curious what may be causing this problem... Any ideas? Environment: Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS PHP 5.4.15 SQLite 3.7.9 Database size: ? 10MiB Transaction (write) size: ? 1KiB EDIT: Might these symptoms have something to do with busy_timeout?
