  • Windows Server 2008 and eSata External Connection

    Can anyone recommend a good eSATA PCIe card for Windows Server 2008 (x64)? I bought a J-Micron JMB363 and it's recognized by the OS and I can install one of their reference drivers, but it's not picking up the drive I have attached to it. Basically, I want to be able to transfer exported Hyper-V machines quickly to an external drive, and it seems that using one of these eSATA cards is the way to go.

    On one of my old computers I am having the problem of upgrading to windows 8.1 because my computer does not support PAE, NX, and SSE2. How was I able to install windows 8 in the first place? I heard the original requirements for windows 8.0 were PAE, NX, and SSE2. Anyone know a bypass for this on a machine already running windows 8? IMO 8.1 should have been released in the form of a service pack not an entirely new windows.

    Background I have VirtualBox on Linux and recently the drive with the system files failed on me. I'm able to use the Live CD to view the files of the storage drive, and through this, I can copy my data files to another computer while I work on this one. How do I load the .vdi in another computer (or in this case, the fresh install of Ubuntu)? I see many samples online of how to export it, but it assumes the host is currently working. Thanks!

I believe that if I see some statistics of my use of both input devices, I could reduce my use of mouse clicks. Do you know of any free software I can install on my Windows XP machine that counts keypresses and mouse button presses and displays an hourly/daily report? No fancy GUI is needed - just two summary lines.

    Does anyone know where I can find the i386 centos 4.7 repos files that would normally sit in /etc/yum.repos.d. Alas, it looks like someone copied the 5.5 edition over to a 4.7 system. I can setup a new VM, install 4.7 and extract the files from that system (but I was hoping for a faster approach. Please let me know if you know where these files live on the net.     i have made a live boot usb using UnetBootIn tool for ubuntu desktop 9.10 , i have windows xp sp2 installed as primary os and i want to make a partition for ubuntu but when i try to boot it via usb , it just goes to boot menu of ubuntu , then i enter the default type for installation after that nothing happens , just the ubuntu logo showed up and just that nothing happens after that , i can try the simpler task also i.e.via cd install but i want to know what's not working with this usb boot method Thnx n Advance

    I use Microsoft Security Essentials as my antivirus on my Win7 box. New virus definitions to Security Essentials are installed using Windows Update. However, the updates are marked as optional by default, as opposed to important which means that they don't get installed automatically. I have to select the updates from the list of optional updates and install them manually. Is there a way to change this behavior so that new definitions are marked as important and installed automatically?

But when we disable this, the application push does not work anymore. Does anybody know/have experience with making an exception for certain applications or an exception for applications that are provided by application push from the BES?     I have a Windows Vista laptop that won't boot at all. On the D: drive I have DriveImage XML images of C: drive, but I don't have a BartPE boot CD and I don't have a Vista install CD. How can I image the C: using the images on D: if I can't make a BartPE CD because I can't boot to Windows?     I have two new models to support, Optiplex 790 and Lenovo L520. I need to add their chipset drivers to the Windows Deployment server and Intel's driver package is a suite of chipset drivers. WDS discovers way too many: Prior to installing the chipset, SM_Bus shows a yellow exclamation in the Device Manager. When I install Intel's suite, the drivers are installed and SM_Bus is gone. How can I identify which drivers are being used?

    I'm using a EC2 windows 2003 instance. I managed to install pop3 and i can connect to it locally (using outlook express with the remote desktop) and the server address is the machine name. I also added MX record on the DNS (mail.mydomain.com) but still i can't connect to the pop3 server remotely using either mail.mydomain.com or even the server IP.
