  • Developing a rich internet application

    Hello, I have been a desktop developer for a few years mostly doing object oriented stuff. I am trying to branch out into web development, and as a hobby project trying to put a web application together. I have been reading quite alot of information, but I still can't seem to decide on the path to take and would really like some advice. Basically, I want to build something like this: http://mon.itor.us/ I have found this as well: http://www.trilancer.com/jpolite/#t1 But so far it is of little use as I am trying to grasp Javascript. I have been using visual studio for that, is that a good IDE for this tye of thing or should I try expression blend? Jpolite seems to do everything with javascript, which seems kind of cool, but I if I want to make a chart inside a widget that connects to a database, do I need something more? Is this where ASP.NET comes in? I am familiar with .NET, but if I use ASP.NET for my website, do I have to host it on IIS and windows server as opposed to Apache since mono is still being ironed out? Because that would cost more, so would PHP be a better choice? Also, for charting these guys as well as google seem to use flex: http://www.google.com/finance I have found this: http://www.reynoldsftw.com/2009/03/javascript-chart-alternatives/ Would that be sufficient to implement something like google fiance purely in javascript or is there a good reason they use flex? This is the error that I have received when I try to read a simple Excel file into MATLAB. This is a snapshot of the spreadsheet I would like to load in. Could guide me the basic know-how to extract these data? I have looked through the other questions pertaining to reading Excel files into MATLAB, but I am still very confused. I ultimately wish to extract the file below for my project using the same method. The second image shows the data I have to extract which I could not do. Its file type seems to be different, it is comma separated values file which is not xls. Hence, I am also confuse about whether different file type prevents extraction of data.   • Problem parsing an atom feed using simplexml_load_file(), can't get an attribute.

    Hi, I am trying to create a social timeline. I pull in feeds form certain places so I have a timeline of thing I have done. The problem I am having is with Google reader Shared Items. I want to get the time at which I shared the item which is contained in <entry gr:crawl-timestamp-msec="1269088723811"> Trying to get the element using $date = $xml->entry[$i]->link->attributes()->gr:crawl-timestamp-msec; fails because of the : after gr which causes a PHP error.     Hi, My VPS mail server can get email from anywhere but other email account of the server. For example i have two accounts; email at domain.com email2 at domain.com when i send to email at domain.com from email2 at domain.com (using smtp.com relays) i cant recieve the message even though i can see it s been sent on smtp.com panel. any idea ?

    Hello, I have jquery tabs like <ul id="tabsList"> <li><a href="#tab-1">Name 1</a></li> <li><a href="#tab-2">Name 2</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.google.com/">Name 3</a></li> </ul> <div id="tab-1">content 1</div> <div id="tab-2">content 2</div> the first two tabs load the respective divs. But the third one should go to google.com, instead it does nothing. It just adds http://example.com/index.html#ui-tabs-[object Object] to the url. I am developing a wordpress plugin and the admin page needs a tab interface. I tested this in a local server and not working update: i don't want to load google.com inside the page. It should open the webpage in new tab/window like ordinary links do.

  • How to move SharePoint authentication from AD to LDAP without breaking user profiles?

    We have a bunch of users in a local Active Directory OU that access the SharePoint portal. We've just added LDAP authentication and pointed it at the organisation's global LDAP server, so out AD accounts are now redundant. Is there a way to re-map the authentication for a SharePoint (MOSS 2007) user/profile. That is, can we manually change a lot of users so that they log in with their LDAP credentials and get the same SharePoint MySite, groups, etc. as when they were authenticating via AD?

  • pylons on production server fedora 8

    I'm interested in learning some python, and thought Pylons would be a good starting point (after spending 2 days trying to get django working -- to no avail). I have an Amazon EC2 instance with Fedora 8 on it. It is a bare-bones install. I am halfway through my second day of trying to get it to work. I have mod_wsgi installed. I have Apache (though that's a later task to tackle). I have easy_install, paster is working fine; basically all of the pre-requisites mentioned throughout the Pylons docs. I can't for the life of me get the thing to work. And I can't seem to find a coherent walkthough anywhere that lists all the steps necessary. There is tons of info out there, but it is all scattered. Wsgi this, python that. Google, google, google... "47 million results found for 'socket.error:(lol, 'Yous a goofs')". So, this is my latest attempt: apachectl -k stop cd /home/ paster create -t pylons test [blah blah.. ok] cd test nano development.ini [hmm, last time I changed the host from 127.0.0.1 to my domain name or url, it threw an error like socket.error: (99, 'Cannot assign requested address')... I'll just leave it] [open port 5000 on firewall] paster serve development.ini [firefox-url:5000] Firefox can't establish a connection to the server Doing these steps locally works as expected. This is just a test to see if I can get it to work at all, which I can't. If I get it to work, then is the task of getting it to work with apache. My madness is that I'd like to play around a little developing and deploying before diving into a full-fledged project. So far: self, I am dissapoint.

Having followed all of the instructions from Android, my java file will not recognize the "MapActivity" or the import statements to include the needed api.     Is there a Firefox add-on that will allow someone to easily open up a page in a new tab or window so it will not share cookies and other session information with other windows? Basically, I want to be able to run Facebook, GMail, Google Search, etc, in separate sandboxes using different accounts. I recall seeing a blog posting about an add-on that did this without forcing you to set up different Firefox profiles, but I can't remember where I saw it or what it was called.

  • Server 2012, ADFS 2.1, and Office 365

    Has anyone gotten ADFS 2.1 on Server 2012 working with o365 SSO? I have it working up to a point, I tweaked the registry to allow the powershell commands to run, user accounts syncs fine. Even the remote connectivity analyzer shows no errors. But SSO itself does not seem to be passing the credentials correctly. Microsoft claims that ADFS 2.1 is not supported to work with o365, but I'm just being stubborn and not giving up that easy.

  • How do I use Openfire with OpenLDAP and ldap.clientSideSorting?

    The system log on my Openfire + OpenLDAP installation is getting flooded with this message: slap_global_control: unrecognized control: 1.2.840.113556.1.4.473 This means that Openfire wants OpenLDAP to do server-side sorting, which OpenLDAP doesn't support. The Openfire LDAP Guide advises to set the property ldap.clientSideSorting to true in this case. Unfortunately, Openfire doesn't find any user accounts in LDAP anymore if I do that. How do I make this work?

    I have a single Exhange account with multiple aliases (e-mail addresses), for which it recieves incoming mail messages. Using "rules" it is possible to have the incoming messages sorted into folders depending on the address they are sent to. When composing and sending messages from Outlook, the primary address of the exchange account is used in the "From" header. Without adding additional mail accounts (I really only have one), is it possible to learn Outlook about the alias addresses, making them available as "From" addresses when composing new messages?

    I though returning false would be enough to cancel the link action, but apparently it isn't. When I click the link in the code below I do get the 'click' message, which is expected.   • How to make Shared Keys .ssh/authorized_keys and sudo work together?

    I've setup the .ssh/authorized_keys and am able to login with the new "user" using the pub/private key ... I have also added "user" to the sudoers list ... the problem I have now is when I try to execute a sudo command, something simple like: $ sudo cd /root it will prompt me for my password, which I enter, but it doesn't work (I am using the private key password I set) Also, ive disabled the users password using $ passwd -l user What am I missing? Somewhere my initial remarks are being misunderstood ... I am trying to harden my system ... the ultimate goal is to use pub/private keys to do logins versus simple password authentication. I've figured out how to set all that up via the authorized_keys file. Additionally I will ultimately prevent server logins through the root account. But before I do that I need sudo to work for a second user (the user which I will be login into the system with all the time). For this second user I want to prevent regular password logins and force only pub/private key logins, if I don't lock the user via" passwd -l user ... then if i dont use a key, i can still get into the server with a regular password. But more importantly I need to get sudo to work with a pub/private key setup with a user whos had his/her password disabled. Edit: Ok I think I've got it (the solution): 1) I've adjusted /etc/ssh/sshd_config and set PasswordAuthentication no This will prevent ssh password logins (be sure to have a working public/private key setup prior to doing this 2) I've adjusted the sudoers list visudo and added root ALL=(ALL) ALL dimas ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL 3) root is the only user account that will have a password, I am testing with two user accounts "dimas" and "sherry" which do not have a password set (passwords are blank, passwd -d user) The above essentially prevents everyone from logging into the system with passwords (a public/private key must be setup). Additionally users in the sudoers list have admin abilities. They can also su to different accounts. So basically "dimas" can sudo su sherry, however "dimas can NOT do su sherry. Similarly any user NOT in the sudoers list can NOT do su user or sudo su user. NOTE The above works but is considered poor security. Any script that is able to access code as the "dimas" or "sherry" users will be able to execute sudo to gain root access. A bug in ssh that allows remote users to log in despite the settings, a remote code execution in something like firefox, or any other flaw that allows unwanted code to run as the user will now be able to run as root. Sudo should always require a password or you may as well log in as root instead of some other user.

  • Start multiple instances of Firefox; Xephyr rootless mode

    How can I have multiple independent instances of Mozilla Firefox 3.5 on the same X server, but started from different user accounts (consequently, different profiles)? Limited success was only with Xephyr :1, DISPLAY=:1 /usr/local/bin/firefox, but Xephyr has no Cygwin/X's "rootless" mode so it's not comfortable. The idea is to have one Firefox instance for various "Serious Business" things and the other for regular browsing with dozens of add-ons securely isolated.
