  • VB.NET - using textfile as source for menus and textboxes

    - by Kenny Bones
Hi, this is probably a bit tense and I'm not sure if this is possible at all. But basically, I'm trying to create a small application which contains alot of PowerShell-code which I want to run in an easy matter. I've managed to create everything myself and it does work. But all of the PowerShell code is manually hardcoded and this gives me a huge disadvantage. What I was thinking was creating some sort of dynamic structure where I can read a couple of text files (possible a numerous amount of text files) and use these as the source for both the comboboxes and the richtextbox which provovides as the string used to run in PowerShell. I was thinking something like this: Combobox - "Choose cmdlet" - Use "menucode.txt" as source Richtextbox - Use "code.txt" as source But, the thing is, Powershell snippets need a few arguments in order for them to work. So I've got a couple of comboboxes and a few textboxes which provides as input for these arguments. And this is done manually as it is right now. So rewriting this small application should also search the textfile for some keywords and have the comboboxes and textboxes to replace those keywords. And I'm not sure how to do this. So, would this requre a whole lot of textfiles? Or could I use one textfile and separate each PowerShell cmdlet snippets with something? Like some sort of a header? Right now, I've got this code at the eventhandler (ComboBox_SelectedIndexChanged) If ComboBoxFunksjon.Text = "Set attribute" Then TxtBoxUsername.Visible = True End If If chkBoxTextfile.Checked = True Then If txtboxBrowse.Text = "" Then MsgBox("You haven't choses a textfile as input for usernames") End If LabelAttribute.Visible = True LabelUsername.Visible = False ComboBoxAttribute.Visible = True TxtBoxUsername.Visible = False txtBoxCode.Text = "$users = Get-Content " & txtboxBrowse.Text & vbCrLf & "foreach ($a in $users)" & vbCrLf & "{" & vbCrLf & "Set-QADUser -Identity $a -ObjectAttributes @{" & ComboBoxAttribute.SelectedItem & "='" & TxtBoxValue.Text & "'}" & vbCrLf & "}" If ComboBoxAttribute.SelectedItem = "Outlook WebAccess" Then TxtBoxValue.Visible = False CheckBoxValue.Visible = True CheckBoxValue.Text = "OWA Enabled?" txtBoxCode.Text = "$users = Get-Content " & txtboxBrowse.Text & vbCrLf & "foreach ($a in $users)" & vbCrLf & "{" & vbCrLf & "Set-CASMailbox -Identity $a -OWAEnabled" & " " & "$" & CheckBoxValue.Checked & " '}" & vbCrLf & "}" End If If ComboBoxAttribute.SelectedItem = "MobileSync" Then TxtBoxValue.Visible = False CheckBoxValue.Visible = True CheckBoxValue.Text = "MobileSync Enabled?" Dim value If CheckBoxValue.Checked = True Then value = "0" Else value = "7" End If txtBoxCode.Text = "$users = Get-Content " & txtboxBrowse.Text & vbCrLf & "foreach ($a in $users)" & vbCrLf & "{" & vbCrLf & "Set-QADUser -Identity $a -ObjectAttributes @{msExchOmaAdminWirelessEnable='" & value & " '}" & vbCrLf & "}" End If Else LabelAttribute.Visible = True LabelUsername.Visible = True ComboBoxAttribute.Visible = True txtBoxCode.Text = "Set-QADUser -Identity " & TxtBoxUsername.Text & " -ObjectAttributes @{" & ComboBoxAttribute.SelectedItem & "='" & TxtBoxValue.Text & " '}" If ComboBoxAttribute.SelectedItem = "Outlook WebAccess" Then TxtBoxValue.Visible = False CheckBoxValue.Visible = True CheckBoxValue.Text = "OWA Enabled?" txtBoxCode.Text = "Set-CASMailbox " & TxtBoxUsername.Text & " -OWAEnabled " & "$" & CheckBoxValue.Checked End If If ComboBoxAttribute.SelectedItem = "MobileSync" Then TxtBoxValue.Visible = False CheckBoxValue.Visible = True CheckBoxValue.Text = "MobileSync Enabled?" Dim value If CheckBoxValue.Checked = True Then value = "0" Else value = "7" End If txtBoxCode.Text = "Set-QADUser " & TxtBoxUsername.Text & " -ObjectAttributes @{msExchOmaAdminWirelessEnable='" & value & "'}" End If End If Now, this snippet above lets me either use a text file as a source for each username used in the powershell snippet. Just so you know :) And I know, this is probably coded as stupidly as it gets. But it does work! :)

  • asp.net mvc How to test controllers correctly

    - by Simon G
Hi, I'm having difficulty testing controllers. Original my controller for testing looked something like this: SomethingController CreateSomethingController() { var somethingData = FakeSomethingData.CreateFakeData(); var fakeRepository = FakeRepository.Create(); var controller = new SomethingController(fakeRepository); return controller; } This works fine for the majority of testing until I got the Request.IsAjaxRequest() part of code. So then I had to mock up the HttpContext and HttpRequestBase. So my code then changed to look like: public class FakeHttpContext : HttpContextBase { bool _isAjaxRequest; public FakeHttpContext( bool isAjaxRequest = false ) { _isAjaxRequest = isAjaxRequest; } public override HttpRequestBase Request { get { string ajaxRequestHeader = ""; if ( _isAjaxRequest ) ajaxRequestHeader = "XMLHttpRequest"; var request = new Mock<HttpRequestBase>(); request.SetupGet( x => x.Headers ).Returns( new WebHeaderCollection { {"X-Requested-With", ajaxRequestHeader} } ); request.SetupGet( x => x["X-Requested-With"] ).Returns( ajaxRequestHeader ); return request.Object; } } private IPrincipal _user; public override IPrincipal User { get { if ( _user == null ) { _user = new FakePrincipal(); } return _user; } set { _user = value; } } } SomethingController CreateSomethingController() { var somethingData = FakeSomethingData.CreateFakeData(); var fakeRepository = FakeRepository.Create(); var controller = new SomethingController(fakeRepository); ControllerContext controllerContext = new ControllerContext( new FakeHttpContext( isAjaxRequest ), new RouteData(), controller ); controller.ControllerContext = controllerContext; return controller; } Now its got to that stage in my controller where I call Url.Route and Url is null. So it looks like I need to start mocking up routes for my controller. I seem to be spending more time googling on how to fake/mock objects and then debugging to make sure my fakes are correct than actual writing the test code. Is there an easier way in to test a controller? I've looked at the TestControllerBuilder from MvcContrib which helps with some of the issues but doesn't seem to do everything. Is there anything else available that will do the job and will let me concentrate on writing the tests rather than writing mocks? Thanks

  • ASP.Net Form Databound problems

    - by Jason Bitman
I know there is a similar problem on this forum, but the solutions did not really work for me. I am populating form controls with fields from a few different data sources, and the data shows up great. I have an ImageButton controlwhich has an OnClick Event set to grab all of the data from the form. Unfortunately, when I click the button, it seems as though the page is reloading first, and THEN is executes the OnClick call. The data that was hand-entered, or hard-coded seems to be pulled fine from the controls it was entered in, but anything that was pulled from a datasource is not able to be read. Any ideas. this is the last hurdle in a project that I have been working on for 6 months. I want to go home... Thank you so much in advance. Jason

  • ASP.net: Radio Button Not Maintaining Selection After Postback, Inside DIV/Thickbox

    - by jlrolin
    I have a set of radio buttons inside a hidden DIV. <div id="reports" style="display:none;"> <center> <br /> <table cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0"> <tr> <td class="label"> Report Type::&nbsp; </td> <td class="value"> <asp:RadioButton ID="rbReportTypeCust" runat="server" Text="By Customer" Enabled="True" Checked="True" GroupName="rbType" />&nbsp;<asp:RadioButton ID="rbReportTypeProg" runat="server" Text="By Program" Enabled="True" GroupName="rbType" /> </td> </tr> <tr> <td class="label"> Customer:&nbsp; </td> <td class="value"> <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlCustomer" runat="server" /> </td> </tr> <tr> <td class="label"> Program Group::&nbsp; </td> <td class="value"> <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlProgramGroups" runat="server" /> </td> </tr> </table> <br /> <asp:Button ID="btnSubmit" runat="server" Text="Submit" OnClientClick="doPostBack(this);" /> </center> </div> The DIV is displayed using Thickbox as a modal popup. The doPostback javascript function posts the button click back, and hits btnSubmit_Click where a report is then generated. If I see if a radio button is checked, it's always rbReportTypeCust.checked = True, never the rbReportTypeProg.checked = True even if I click it. Any suggestions?

  • C# ASP.NET update SQL database with values from text boxes

    - by Sir Graystar
Here's what I have. User enters values into text boxes (personal information etc.) and then presses a save changes button. The values in these text boxes get stored in an SQL database. The problem I have is that when updating the database using the values from the text boxes, the page refreshes and the values in the text boxes are lost (or rather they return to the values that are already in the database as the data from the database is loaded into the text boxes on Page_Load). When I update the database using valuse stored in variables it all works fine. What is the best way to update with the values from the text boxes?

  • asp.net disappearing data from Dropdownlist inside listview when loading from DataTable

    - by piotrmichal
Hello I have a problem with dropdowllist ddl1 that is inside of insertitem of listview. I populate it from table on page load. In Page_load I have: if (!Page.IsPostBack) { ListView1.DataBind(); InsDropDownList3.DataSource = GetAllPlayersName(); InsDropDownList3.DataBind(); } DropDownList ddl1 = (DropDownList)ListView1.InsertItem.FindControl("InsDropDownList1"); if (ddl1 != null) { DataTable t = GetAllPlayersName(); ddl1.DataSource = t; ddl1.DataBind(); } When I select a row in listview or edit it data from dropdownlist in insertitem row disappears - list became empty until I close page and open again. There is another InsDropDownList3 outside of listview and there is no problem with this one. Why one is loosing data and the other one not? As I understand ddl1 should even get data every time page loads.

  • What version of DataAnnotations is included with ASP.NET MVC 2 RTM

    - by Nick Thoresby
I'm working on a project using Visual Studio 2008 and have moved from the the MVC 2 Preview to RTM version. We would like to use model validation such as: public class ViewModel { [Required(ErrorMessage="UserName is required.")] [StringLength(10, ErrorMessage="UserName cannot be greater than 10 chars.")] public string UserName { get; set; } } [HttpPost] public ActionResult Register(ViewModel model) { if (ModelState.IsValid){} // Always true } However the ModelState.IsValid always returns true. I have a suspicion that it might be something to do with the version of System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations.dll that we are referencing, currently version 99.0.0.0, which seems rather odd. Does anyone know what version of this dll is included with the MVC 2 RTM for Visual Studio 2008?

  • How to retrieve checkboxlist values in the controller in asp.net mvc

    - by sukumar
I am having a form in a view page that looks as below: <form runat="server" id="dcrsubmit"> <asp:CheckBoxList ID="CheckBoxList1" runat="server"> <asp:ListItem>test1</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>test2</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>test3</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>test4</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>test5</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>test6</asp:ListItem> </asp:CheckBoxList> ....other controls </form> Now when the form is posted, I am trying to retrieve the values submitted in the controller as below: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult testmethod(FormCollection formValues) { string s = formvalues.get("CheckBoxList1"); . . /* other code */ . } The string value shows null when I submit the form by checking some checkboxes. Is this the way to retrieve the values or am I doing something wrong? And I cannot use html control because all other controls on the form are server controls and I am not sure if I can only make this control a html control. And I am not sure how can I bind the values to it?

  • WPF/.NET data access models - resource recommendations

    - by jasonk
We're in the early design/prep phases of transferring/updating a rather large "legacy" 3 tier client-server app to a new version. We’re looking at doing WPF over Winforms as it appears to be the direction Microsoft is pushing development of the future and we’d like the maximize the life cycle/span of the apps. That said during the rewrite we’d like to make as many changes to our data access/presentation model to improve performance as much as possible up front as many. I’ve been doing some research along that vein but the vast majority of the resources I've found that discuss WPF focus only simple data tracking apps or focus on the very basics UI design/controls. The few items that even discuss data presentation are fairly elementary in depth. Are there any books/articles/recommended reading/other resources recommended for development related to large enterprise level business apps? Any “gotchas” that should/could be avoided? General advice to minimize the time underwater

  • How to document thrown exceptions in c#/.net

    - by Arnold Zokas
I am currently writing a small framework that will be used internally by other developers within the company. I want to provide good Intellisense information, but I am not sure how to document thrown exceptions. In the following example: public void MyMethod1() { MyMethod2(); // also may throw InvalidOperationException } public void MyMethod2() { System.IO.File.Open(somepath...); // this may throw FileNotFoundException // also may throw DivideByZeroException } I know the markup for documenting exceptions is: /// <exception cref="SomeException">when things go wrong.</exception> What I don't understand is how to document exceptions thrown by code called by MyMethod1()? Should I document exceptions thrown by MyMethod2() Should I document exceptions thrown by File.Open() ? What would be the best way to document possible exceptions?

  • .NET Dictionary as a Property

    - by Anand
Can someone point me out to some C# code examples or provide some code, where a Dictionary has been used as a property for a Class. The examples I have seen so far don't cover all the aspects viz how to declare the dictionary as property, add, remove, and retrieve the elements from the dictionary.

  • Excel 2010 64 bit can't create .net object

    - by aboes81
I have a simple class library that I use in Excel. Here is a simplification of my class... using System; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; namespace SimpleLibrary { [ComVisible(true)] public interface ISixGenerator { int Six(); } public class SixGenerator : ISixGenerator { public int Six() { return 6; } } } In Excel 2007 I would create a macro enabled workbook and add a module with the following code: Public Function GetSix() Dim lib As SimpleLibrary.SixGenerator lib = New SimpleLibrary.SixGenerator Six = lib.Six End Function Then in Excel I could call the function GetSix() and it would return six. This no longer works in Excel 2010 64bit. I get a Run-time error '429': ActiveX component can't create object. I tried changing the platform target to x64 instead of Any CPU but then my code wouldn't compile unless I unchecked the Register for COM interop option, doing so makes it so my macro enable workbook cannot see SimpleLibrary.dll as it is no longer regsitered. Any ideas how I can use my library with Excel 2010 64 bit?

  • ASP.NET Writing to the Bin directory, access denied when anonymous user

    - by LeeW
Hi all I have a program that creates a small file in the Bin directory for the purpose of tracking a license (that's the intention), all works fine when debugging but I've just realized that when I run it on a IIS server under the anonymous user account (IUSR) the file isn't created as IUSR only has read permission (I know this is correct but drat!). Can I write to another location under IUSR account or can I run my code under 'Local Service' account? Thanks
