• Can I autologin a specific user on a specific VT, but still have other login shells running?

  I'm running a linux system with Ubuntu Karmic on it, and I use it to run a webcam and a program that continuously outputs on the console. Is there any way I can force a user to login on VT2, and then switch VTs to VT2, but still have other login consoles running so I can hook a keyboard up to it and CTRL-ALT-F# to get to another terminal? I have a feeling this needs to go in my rc.local file, but nothing in the login manpage seems to suggest it can do what I want it to do. If there is no way to login a user on the vt, launching the program directly on a specific VT will work as well, since the user's shell in /etc/passwd is set to the program anyway.

• Invert the 1bbp color under a rectangle.

  I am working with GDI+, the image I am working with is a 1bbp image. What i would like to do is draw a rectangle on the image and everything under that rectangle will be inverted (white pixels will become black and black pixels become white). All of the sample code I have seen is for 8 bit RGB color scale images, and I don't think the techniques they use will work for me. Here is the code I have so far. • How to disable Utility Manager (Windows Key + U)

  How do I disable the Windows Key+U hotkey in Windows XP? Alternatively, how do I stop the utility manager from being active? The two are related. The utilty manager is currently providing a potential security hole and I need to remove it*. The system I'm developing uses a custom Gina to log in and start a custom shell. This removes most Windows Key hotkeys but the Win+U still pops up the manager app. Update: Things I've tried and don't work: NoWinKeys registry setting - this only affects explorer hotkeys; Renaming utilman.exe - program reappears next login; Third party software - not really an option, these machines are audited by the clients and additional, third party software would be unlikely to be accepted. Also, the proedure needs to be reasonably straightforward - this has to be done by field service engineers to existing machines (machines currently in Russia, Holland, France, Spain, Ireland and USA). * The hole is via the internet options in the help viewer the utility app links to.

  I would like to make a script which can maintain multiple servers via SSH. I want to control the authentication/authorization in such a manner that authentication is done by gateway and any other access is routed through this ssh server to internal services without any further authentication/authorization requirements. So if a user A can log into server_1 for example. He can then ssh to server_2 without any other authentication and do what ever he is allowed to do on server_2 (like shut down mysql, upgrade it and restart it. This could be done via some remote shell script). The problem that I am trying to solve is to come up with a deployment script for a JavaEE system which involves databases and tomcat instances. They need to be shutdown and re-spawned. The requirement is to have a deployment script which has minimal human interaction as possible for both developers and operation.

  I am not competent on server issues, any help is much appreciated. • Is there a best practice for concatenating MP3 Files, adjusting sample rates to match, while preserving original files?

  Hello overflow community! Does anyone know if there is a "best practice" to concatenate mp3 files to create new files, while preserving the original files? I am working on a CentOS Linux machine, in command line. I will eventually call the command line from a PHP script. I have been doing research and I have come up with a process that I think could work. It combines general advice from different forums, blogs, and sources like this one. So here I go: Create a temporary folder Loop through files to create a new, converted copy, of file into a "raw" format (which one, I don't know. I didn't know "raw" files existed before too long ago. I could use some suggestions on this) Store the path to the temporary files, in the temporary folder, and then loop through the files to concatenate them and then put the new merged file the final "processed directory" Delete the contents of the temporary file with the temporary raw files inside. Convert the final file from "raw" to mp3 and enjoy the finished result I'm thinking that this course of action might be best because I can't necessarily control the quality of the original "source" mp3s. The only other option I could think of would be to create a script that would perform a similar process upon files being added to the system leaving only the files with the "proper" format and removing the original "erroneous" file. Hopefully you can see that I have put some thought into this and that I'm trying to leverage the collective knowledge of this community to choose the best direction. Perhaps there is a better path that I could take? By concatenate, I mean to join together in sequence to create a new audio file from the "concatenated files."

• ssh into my mac from my ipod

  Ok so this is what I got, but it don't look right... The set up is as follows: My Mac is on a wireless network, presumably behind a firewall over which I have no admin privileges. Further, said wireless network changes my internal IP randomly at random times, so I do not know what my ip is. Note that localhost is a variable ip I forward some port or the other to my dns: ssh -R 19999:localhost:22 sourceuser@remotehost connect to my remotehost from my machine: ssh sourceuser@remotehost and then connect to the port I forwarded: ssh localhost -p 19999 [solved] Second question, there are a bunch of ssh clients for the iphone. Which one should I use? EDIT: Since jailbreak is not illegal, simply frowned upon by the Corporation, I've decided to go with that. I have a nice shell with openssh and the works. Best of all, it's free and it does exactly what you expect.

  I am currently writing a small texteditor. With this texteditor users are able to create small scripts for a very simple scripting engine. For a better overview I want to highlight codeblocks with the same command like GoTo(x,y) or Draw(x,y). To achieve this I want to use Regular Expresions (I am already using it to highlight other things like variables) Here is my Expression (I know it's very ugly): /(?<!GoTo|Draw|Example)(^(?:GoTo|Draw|Example)\(.+\)*?$)+(?!GoTo|Draw|Example)/gm It matches the following: lala GoTo(5656) -> MATCH 1 sdsd GoTo(sdsd) --comment -> MATCH 2 GoTo(23329); -> MATCH 3 Test() GoTo(12) -> MATCH 4 LALA Draw(23) -> MATCH 5 Draw(24) -> MATCH 6 Draw(25) -> MATCH 7 But what I want to achieve is, that the complete "blocks" of the same command are matched. • windows 2003 - why can't serial port be accessed remotely?

  we have recently installed the updates on some of our servers, which have a bit of hardware attached via USB that presents itself as a serial (COM) port. The strange behaviour is that if I start a cmd shell on the server via VNC, I can open the serial port. If I run a service and start it from there (telnet, jenkins) then I receive a "not found" error for it. IE: C:\Documents and Settings\some_user>echo 1 >COM4: C:\Documents and Settings\some_user> on the local cmd will work, and on the remote telnet will give: C:\Documents and Settings\some_user>echo 1 >COM4: The system cannot find the file specified. C:\Documents and Settings\some_user> I cannot see any security settings on the Device manager settings panel for this device.

• Qt moc not error

  So I'm pretty new to Qt, and I've just inherited a project from someone else who is also new to Qt. He isn't around this week btw. We are using Visual Studio 2008, and have the latest version of Qt installed(4.6.2). The project builds on my coworker's machine fine, and I can get the project from svn and build it directly. But under any other circumstances it refuses to build on my machine, and it doesn't give me much of an explanation why. Even if I just do a 'build clean' and then a 'build' it doesn't work. Any slight modification will make it fail. When I try to build the entire project I get the error message: 1Moc'ing MatrixTypeInterface.h... 1moc: Cannot create .\GeneratedFiles\Debug\moc_MatrixTypeInterface.cpp;.\GeneratedFiles\Debug\moc_matrixtypeinterface.cpp 1Project : error PRJ0019: A tool returned an error code from "Moc'ing MatrixTypeInterface.h..." The moc tool doesn't give any sort of error message as to why it isn't working, and I wasted most of yesterday trying to figure out why. I got the command that VS was using to call moc, and I entered in the command line myself. It didn't write anything to the screen. Any ideas?

• In Mercurial, can I apply changes from one file to another file in the same branch?

  In the good old days of Subversion, I would sometimes derive a new file from an existing one using svn copy. Then if something changed in sections they had in common, I could still use svn merge to update the derived version. To use the example from hginit.com, say the "guac" recipe already exists, and I want to create a "superguac" that includes instructions on how to serve guacamole to 1000 raving soccer fans. Using the process I just described, I could: svn cp guac superguac svn ci -m "Created superguac by copying guac" (edit superguac) svn ci -m "Added instructions for serving 1000 raving soccer fans to superguac" (edit guac) svn ci -m "Fixed a typo in guac" svn merge -r3:4 guac superguac and thus the typo fix would be applied to superguac. Mercurial provides an hg copy command that marks a file as a copy of the original, but I'm not sure the repository structure supports a similar workflow. Here's the same example, and I carefully only edit a single file in the commit I want to use in the merge: hg cp guac superguac hg ci -m "Created superguac by copying guac" (edit superguac) hg ci -m "Added instructions for serving 1000 raving soccer fans to superguac" (edit guac) hg ci -m "Fixed a typo in guac" I now want to apply the change in guac to superguac. • Nagios remote monitoring: NRPE Vs. SSH

  We use Nagios to monitor quite a few (~130) servers. We monitor CPU, Disk, RAM and a few other things on each server. I've always used SSH to run the remote commands, purely because it requires little to no additional config on the remote server, just install nagios-plugins, create the nagios user and add the SSH key, all of which I've automated into a shell script. I've never actually considered the performance implications of using SSH over NRPE. I'm not too bothered about the load hit on the Nagios server (It's probably over-speced for what it does, it's never been over 10% CPU), but we run each remote check every 30 seconds and each server has 5 different checks performed. I assume SSH requires more resources for each check but is there a huge difference? (I.E. enough of a difference to warrant the switch to NRPE). If it's any help, we monitor a mix of physical servers (Normally with 8, 12 or 16 physical cores) and Amazon EC2 medium/large instances.

After performing this update, the default PYTHONPATH settings for the Django commands executed through cronjob are different from the Django application which I execute from shell. Because of this mismatch my old Django cronjobs fail since the required libraries are not in path. How do I resolve this issue and ensure that both the cronjob Django commands and the Django application have the same environment?

• How can I delete faster? Word boundary backspace?

  I like to type fast. I'm a chronic delete-keyer. I will type first, re-think the output later and hit delete. It seems I'm addicted to always doing something fast. Anyways, I have to tap the delete button very often. Is there a way to do a backspace to word boundary that's native? In a chat box, I can use alt+shift+left to get a word, cmd shift left to get the whole line, etc. but I can't do that in a python shell for example. Any ideas?

• Compiling Wanderlust for Windows and use it for Gmail.

  I'm trying to get Wanderlust working in Windows to connect to Gmail. Compiling the code is much more painful than expected. Here are the barriers so far: Can't download dependent packages: SEMI, APEL, and FLIM. I eventually found newer versions, but I'm not sure they will work. Anyone have the older versions? Needs make and install. I used MSYS and it seems to have compiled okay. SSL support. I was getting a "Cannot open load file: ssl" error. I found an ssl.el that comes with w3. So installed w3. Bash command in ssl.el: ssl-get-command is running something from /bin/sh (not a directory I have in Windows). I really don't want to refactor this code. Is there a better way? Others speak very highly of Wanderlust, so I want to give it a try. I feel like I'm almost there, but am pretty much worn out with all the crazy configuration I have to do. Does anyone have this working on Windows? I'm pretty sure it will work with Gmail, because of this post. But will it work in Windows too? If you have a few pointers, please help.

  I have an Access 2003 database that connects to a SQL Server 2008 box via ODBC. The tables from SQL Server are connected as linked tables in Access. I have a stored procedure on the SQL Server that I am trying to execute via ADO code. The problem I have is that Access cannot seem to find the procedure. What do I have to do within Access to be able to execute this stored procedure? Some facts ... The stored procedure in question accepts one parameter which is an integer. The stored procedure returns a recordset which I am hoping to use as the datasource for a ListBox. Here is my ADO code in Access ... • how to set global PATH on OS X?

  I'd like to append to the global PATH variable on OS X so that all user shells and GUI applications get the same PATH environment. I know I can append to the path in shell startup scripts, but those settings are not inherited by GUI applications. The only way I found so far is to redefine the PATH environment variable in /etc/launchd.conf: setenv PATH /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/my/path I coulnd't figure out a way to actually append to PATH in launchd.conf. I'm a bit worried about this method, but so far this is the only thing that works. Does anyone know of a better way?

Now i am trying to do this programatically, to execute it in cmd from c# code. I am using the below code to do it. I am not getting any errors and Result !!! When i debug, i get the value of string commandLine as below, "\"C:\\MySQL\\MySQL Server 5.0\\bin\\\" -uroot -ppassword > \"D:/admindb/AAR12.sql" I guess the problem is with this string, passed to cmd.
