• Is there a way to receive data as unsigned char over UDP on Qt?

  I need to send floating point numbers using a UDP connection to a Qt application. Now in Qt the only function available is qint64 readDatagram ( char * data, qint64 maxSize, QHostAddress * address = 0, quint16 * port = 0 ) which accepts data in the form of signed character buffer. I can convert my float into a string and send it but it will obviously not be very efficient converting a 4 byte float into a much longer sized character buffer. I got hold of these 2 functions to convert a 4 byte float into an unsinged 32 bit integer to transfer over network which works fine for a simple C++ UDP program but for Qt I need to receive the data as unsigned char. • How to have variables with dynamic data types in Java?

  Hi, I need to have a UserProfile class that it's just that, a user profile. This user profile has some vital user data of course, but it also needs to have lists of messages sent from the user friends. I need to save these messages in LinkedList, ArrayList, HashMap and TreeMap. But only one at a time and not duplicate the message for each data structure. Basically, something like a dynamic variable type where I could pick the data type for the messages. Is this, somehow, possible in Java? Or my best approach is something like this? I mean, have 2 different classes (for the user profile), one where I host the messages as Map<K,V> (and then I use HashMap and TreeMap where appropriately) and another class where I host them as List<E> (and then I use LinkedList and ArrayList where appropriately). And probably use a super class for the UserProfile so I don't have to duplicate variables and methods for fields like data, age, address, etc... Any thoughts?

Let's say at first, the entry is (30, 1, 1, 0) and I switch player, so update the entry to (30, 2, 1, 0). and I switch the player back again, so the entry should be updated to (30, 1, 1, 0), but this is not affected to the database!! In the database, the entry still remains as (30, 2, 1, 0)!!!! But if after (30, 2, 1, 0), I update the score to (30, 2, 1, 1) and then switch the player back (30, 1, 1, 1) then this is ok. What's that? How should I deal with it? Thanks for a lot helping, really urgent!!

• How can i share data/text with other apps that will accept it?

  I have an app that creates a new data entry in a sqlite db with several columns. I would like to have a simple share button on the final activity so they can share the results (or even a simple text field) with apps that accept it (email, mms, twitter, etc..). I did some reading on ContentProviders but the more I read, the more I'm thinking i'm heading down the wrong path. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

• Configure Calendar Server 7 to Use the davUniqueId Attribute

  Starting with Calendar Server 7 Update 3 (Patch 08) we introduce a new attribute davUniqueId in the davEntity objectclass, to use as the unique identifier.  The reason behind this is quite simple, the LDAP operational attribute nsUniqueId  has been chosen as the default value used for the unique identifier. It was discovered that this choice has a potential serious downside. The problem with using nsUniqueId is that if the LDAP entry for a user, group, or resource is deleted and recreated in LDAP, the new entry would receive a different nsUniqueId value from the Directory Server, causing a disconnect from the existing account in the calendar database. As a result, recreated users cannot access their existing calendars. How To Configure Calendar Server to Use the davUniqueId Attribute? Populate the davUniqueId to the ldap users. You can create a LDIF output file only or (-x option) directly run the ldapmodify from the populate-davuniqueid shell script. # ./populate-davuniqueid -h localhost -p 389 -D "cn=Directory Manager" -w <passwd> -b "o=red" -O -o /tmp/out.ldif The ldapmodify might failed like below, in that case the LDAP entry already have the 'daventity' objectclass, in those cases run populate-davuniqueid script without the -O option. # ldapmodify -x -h localhost -p 389 -D "cn=Directory Manager" -w <passwd> -c -f /tmp/out.ldif modifying entry "uid=mparis,ou=People,o=vmdomain.tld,o=red" ldapmodify: Type or value exists (20) In this case the user 'mparis' already have the objectclass 'daventity', ldapmodify do not take care of this DN and just take the next DN (if you start ldapmodify with -c option otherwise it stop's completely) dn: uid=mparis,ou=People,o=vmdomain.tld,o=red changetype: modify add: objectclass objectclass: daventity - add: davuniqueid davuniqueid: 01a2c501-af0411e1-809de373-18ff5c8d Even run populate-davuniqueid without -O option or changing the outputfile to dn: uid=mparis,ou=People,o=vmdomain.tld,o=red changetype: modify add: davuniqueid davuniqueid: 01a2c501-af0411e1-809de373-18ff5c8d The ldapmodify works fine now. The only issue I see here is you need verify which user might need the 'daventity' objectclass as well. On the other hand start without the objectclass and only add the objectclass for the users where you get 'Objectclass violation' report. That's indicate the objectclass is missing. # ldapmodify -x -h localhost -p 389 -D "cn=Directory Manager" -w <passwd> -c -f /tmp/out.ldif modifying entry "uid=mparis,ou=People,o=vmdomain.tld,o=red" Now it is time to change the configuration to use the davuniquid attribute # ./davadmin config modify -o davcore.uriinfo.permanentuniqueid -v davuniqueid It is also needed to modfiy the search filter to use davuniqueid instead of nsuniqueid # ./davadmin config modify -o davcore.uriinfo.subjectattributes -v "cn davstore icsstatus mail mailalternateaddress davUniqueId  owner preferredlanguageuid objectclass ismemberof uniquemember memberurl mgrprfc822mailmember" Afterward IWC Calendar works fine and my test user able to access all his old events.

• changing drive nodes & hdparm

  I am currently attempting to create a command that works at startup to kill the power on two of my very noisy hard drives. I have edited the etc/rc.local file to include this command: sudo hdparm -y /dev/sdc sudo hdparm -y /dev/sdd exit 0 While I think this should work, it seems the allocated drives keep switching around every time I reboot. I have sda, sdb, sdc, sdd, and sde but they keep getting jumbled around (making the drive I wish to shut different than sdd which is making the task of shutting down the right drive on start-up quite cumbersome. I do not know how to resolve this. A quick workaround the problem was to go with UUID instead of the DEV letter by editing the etc/rc.local file to include: hdparm -y /dev/disk/by-uuid/443AFBAD7FE50945 hdparm -y /dev/disk/by-uuid/7ABB49654B799D40 So I thought I was in the clear, as I heard both hard drives die down during the boot sequence, BUT, as soon as I log in both drives start up again! so now I have to figure out what is making them start up again after log in, or perhaps another way to get them to turn off. Is there some kind of command i can get to execute after log in? I tried editing the startup applications to include an autossh with: autoshh - sudo hdparm -y /dev/disk/by-uuid/7ABB49654B799D40 autoshh - sudo hdparm -y /dev/disk/by-uuid/443AFBAD7FE50945 but this did not seem to work to turn off the disks after log in.

• Joomla Hide Menu Item, or: Using Rich Content as part of the navigation

  In my Joomla based web site, I have a two layer main menu. The page layout contains two sections whereas the left one displays the content and the right one displays some other kind of content which at the same time serves as a menu. For example, if the user clicks on the "Products" - "SomeCategory" 2nd level menu item, the left section displays an image. The right section lists all products of that category. Each product is represented by an image and text. The content is scrollable. This section is implemented by means of a custom module (mod_custom) assigned to the menu. The content is rich text (HTML). Each product is entered manually by adding a picture and a text in the WYSIWYG editor, and by inserting a link for the picture and text. Now the issue: When the user clicks on a product, I want to display the corresponding product description article ("SomeProduct") to the left, accounting for the following requirements: The bread crumb now displays "Products - SomeCategory - SomeProduct" The main menu still displays the 2nd level for "Products", and "SomeCategory" is still marked as selected. (I would love if the right section which lists the product would remain in the exact same scroll state, but that's a completely different story.) If I link the product entry from the right hand side directly to the article "SomeProduct", then the article appears to the left, but the breadcrumb and menu are reset. So I wanted to create a hidden menu item "SomeProduct" beneath "SomeCategory", and to link the product entry to that menu item. This way, if I click on the product entry, the article appears to the left, the breadcrumb behaves correctly, and the menu state is preserved. However, it is not possible to configure the SomeProduct menu item as "hidden", therefore it appears in the main menu. I found some resources that suggest to create another menu, called "hidden", which does not use any modules, and to create the "SomeProduct" menu item in that menu. Unfortunately this did not work for me: If I link that menu item from the product entry, and click on that entry, then the article appears to the left, but the menu is reset, and the breadcrumb displays "SomeProduct" instead of "Products SomeCategory SomeProduct". Lucky me! I found an appropriate stackexchange site where I can pour out my heart to you guys. Sure you can help me :-)

• Unable to Mount an external hard drive (NTFS)

  Ubuntu 11.10. When I plug my external Drive Western Digital MyPassport (500Go NTFS) I named WD. I get the following error: Unable to mount WD Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: according to mtab, /dev/sdb1 is already mounted on /media/WD mount failed I have no problem with the internal NTFS partitions that auto-mounts on startup (ntfs-config does that). If I plug the WD before I boot Ubuntu, upon login, it's recognized and I can access without no problem. But if I remove it using (Safely remove) and then replug it, I get the error above. • How should one import large amounts of data for FIT/Fitnesse tests?

  We have a scheduling engine with large amounts of test data to test all the scenarios, so test automation is critical. We're currently hoping to use FIT/Fitnesse. However a single test has quite a large table of test data, so it doesn't fit very well into the mould of "two or three inputs, one or more outputs" that Fitnesse uses in its examples. Hopefully the other functionality of Fitnesse makes it worth using it. I hear that there is a way to initialize an application for a FIT test with an Excel spreadsheet - not the Spreadsheet to Fitness function, mind you - but I haven't been able to find it so far. Once the whole spreadsheet is loaded into the application, and the application does its thing, we plan to compare either a number of output rows, or perhaps just the last row, to see if the test passes. The application is currently pulling test data from a database for manual tests, but writing to a database, then initializing from it, is not preferred because of the performance impact. The application is written in C#.

• How do continuously update data to an asp page?

  Hi, I have an asp page based on a very simple database. It references a single table of probably 30 records and maybe 12 data fields and everything works great as I am only uploading a new database every week or so. I have a special circumstance where I would like upload new data to the database and display automatically on the page every 20 to 30 seconds without the user having to refresh their screen. I would expect up to 1000 concurrent users accessing the data. I have been manually uploading the database via ftp, which will obviously not work on this timeline and would also run the risk of error pages as the database is being replaced. So, can anyone point me the right direction to setup this scenario? Other details that might be helpful: The database is an Access database (but I could change to another format if needed) Running on Windows platform hosted by an ISP, not my own server Thanks in advance for any help on this!   Hi, Can anyone advise if its possible to pass data via JQUERY to an ASP.NET MVC controller action and have a view rendered in new browser tab based on the model data passed to the action method. My scenario is that I have a Jqgrid populated with product info on a page. The user would tick the items in the grid that they would like a label produced for. After they've made their slection they would click a button and I would like (if possible) to render a view of that contains a label for each selected item and have the view render in a new browser tab. All the code to allow the selections and post the relevant data back to the action method is all working fine and I know its easy to use the Jquery $(selector).load() command to populate an element on the current page with the HTML returned from the action. But is it possible to populate an element on a page in a new browser tab. If it is how would I go about it? Hope this make sense.
