• mySQL ORDER BY ASC works, DESC does not...

  I've "integrated" SMF into Wordpress by querying the forum for a list of the most recent videos from a specific forum board and displaying them on the Wordpress homepage. However when I add the ORDER BY clause, the query (which I tested on other parts of the same page successfully), breaks. To add to the mix, I am using the Auto Embed plugin to allow the videos to be played on the homepage, as well as using a jCarousel feature to rotate them. People were kind enough to help me here last time with the regexp to filter the video urls, I'm hoping for the same luck this time! The above is just an example to explain my problem. What is the standard approach to solve these kinds of timing issues? One idea would be to wait with the assertion until I get some event notification that my app has been stopped.

• Quick MEF + SL4 question

  I'm working on an app in the Silverlight 4 RC and i'm taking the oppertunity to learn MEF for handling plugin controls. I've got it working in a pretty basic manor, but it's not exactly tidy and I know there is a better way of importing multiple xap's. Essentially, in the App.xaml of my host app, I've got the following telling MEF to load my xap's: AggregateCatalog catalog = new AggregateCatalog(); DeploymentCatalog c1 = new DeploymentCatalog(new Uri("TestPlugInA.xap", UriKind.Relative)); DeploymentCatalog c2 = new DeploymentCatalog(new Uri("TestPlugInB.xap", UriKind.Relative)); catalog.Catalogs.Add(c1); catalog.Catalogs.Add(c2); CompositionHost.Initialize(catalog); c1.DownloadAsync(); c2.DownloadAsync(); I'm sure I'm not using the AggregateCatalog fully here and I need to be able to load any xap's that might be in the directory, not just hardcoding Uri's obviously.... Also, in the MainPage.xaml.cs in the host I have the following collection which MEF puts the plugin's into: [ImportMany(AllowRecomposition = true)] public ObservableCollection<IPlugInApp> PlugIns { get; set; } Again, this works, but I'm pretty sure I'm using ImportMany incorrectly.... Finally, the MainPage.xaml.cs file implements IPartImportsSatisfiedNotification and I have the following for handling the plugin's once loaded: public void OnImportsSatisfied() { sp.Children.Clear(); foreach (IPlugInApp plugIn in PlugIns) { if (plugIn != null) sp.Children.Add(plugIn.GetUserControl()); } } This works, but it seems filthy that it runs n times (n being the number of xap's to load). • Pattern for limiting number of simultaneous asynchronous calls

  I need to retrieve multiple objects from an external system. The external system supports multiple simultaneous requests (i.e. threads), but it is possible to flood the external system - therefore I want to be able to retrieve multiple objects asynchronously, but I want to be able to throttle the number of simultaneous async requests. i.e. I need to retrieve 100 items, but don't want to be retrieving more than 25 of them at once. When each request of the 25 completes, I want to trigger another retrieval, and once they are all complete I want to return all of the results in the order they were requested (i.e. there is no point returning the results until the entire call is returned). Are there any recommended patterns for this sort of thing? • Communication between EJB3 Instances (JEE inter-bean communication) possible?

  I'm designing a part of a JEE6 application, consisting of EJB3 beans. Part of the requirements are multiple parallel (say a few hundred) long running (over days) database hunts. Individual hunts have different search parameters (start time, end time, query filter). Parameters may get changed over time. Currently I'm thinking of the following: SearchController (Stateless Session Bean) formulates a set of search parameters, sends it off to a SearchListener via JMS SearchListener (Message Driven Bean) receives search parameters, instantiates a SearchWorker with the parameters SearchWorker (SLSB) hunts repeatedly through the database; when it finds something, the result is sent off via JMS, and the search continues; when the given 'end-time' has reached, it ends What I'm wondering now: Is there a problem, with EJB3 instances running for days? (Other than that I need to be able to deal with container restarts...) How do I know how many and which EJB instances of SearchWorker are currently running? Is it possible to communicate with them individually (similar to sending a System V signal to a unix process), e.g. to send new parameters, to end an instance, etc..

• DDD and MVC: Difference between 'Model' and 'Entity'

  I'm seriously confused about the concept of the 'Model' in MVC. Most frameworks that exist today put the Model between the Controller and the database, and the Model almost acts like a database abstraction layer. The concept of 'Fat Model Skinny Controller' is lost as the Controller starts doing more and more logic. In DDD, there is also the concept of a Domain Entity, which has a unique identity to it. As I understand it, a user is a good example of an Entity (unique userid, for instance). The Entity has a life-cycle -- it's values can change throughout the course of the action -- and then it's saved or discarded. The Entity I describe above is what I thought Model was supposed to be in MVC? How off-base am I? To clutter things more, you throw in other patterns, such as the Repository pattern (maybe putting a Service in there). It's pretty clear how the Repository would interact with an Entity -- how does it with a Model? Controllers can have multiple Models, which makes it seem like a Model is less a "database table" than it is a unique Entity. So, in very rough terms, which is better? • How to get list of declared functions with their data from php file?

  I need to get list of functions with their contents (not only the function name) from php file. I tried to use regex but it has lots of limitations. it doesn't parse all types of functions. for example it fails if the function has if and for loop statements. in details: I have around 100 include files. each file has number of declared functions. some files has functions duplicated in other files. so what I want is to get list of all functions from specific file then put this list inside an array then I will be using array unique in order to remove the duplicates. • Windows Screensaver Multi Monitor Problem

  I have a simple screensaver that I've written, which has been deployed to all of our company's client PCs. As most of our PCs have dual monitors, I took care to ensure that the screensaver ran on both displays. This works fine, however on some systems, where the primary screen has been swapped (to the left monitor), the screensaver only works on the left (primary) screen. The offending code is below. Can anyone see anything I've done wrong, or a better way of handling this? • JSESSIONID collision between two servers on same ip but different ports

  I've got a situation where I have two different webapps running on a single server, using different ports. They're both running Java's Jetty servlet container, so they both use a cookie parameter named JSESSIONID to track the session id. These two webapps are fighting over the session id. Open a Firefox tab, and go to WebApp1 WebApp1's HTTP response has a set-cookie header with JSESSIONID=1 Firefox now has a Cookie header with JSESSIONID=1 in all it's HTTP requests to WebApp1 Open a second Firefox tab, and go to WebApp2 The HTTP reqeust to WebApp2 also has a Cookie header with JSESSIONID=1, but in the doGet, when I call req.getSession(false); I get null. And if I call req.getSession(true) I get a new Session object, but then the HTTP response from WebApp2 has a set-cookie header with JSESSIONID=20 Now, WebApp2 has a working Session, but WebApp1's session is gone. Going to WebApp1 will give me a new session, blowing away WebApp2's session. Continue forever So the Sessions are thrashing between each web app. I'd really like for the req.getSession(false) to return a valid session if there's already a JSESSIONID cookie defined. One option is to basically reimplement the Session framework with a HashMap and cookies called WEBAPP1SESSIONID and WEBAPP2SESSIONID, but that sucks, and means I'll have to hack the new Session stuff into ActionServlet and a few other places. This must be a problem others have encountered. Is Jetty's HttpServletRequest.getSession(boolean) just crappy?

  A pretty simple question, has anyone here tried to make a OData feed based on a IQueryable created with LinqExtender? I have created a simple Linq-provider that supports Where, Select, OrderBy and Take and wanted to expose it as an OData Feed. • ASP.NET UpdatePanel > Get selected value from checbox list outside of panel

  Hi, I have a listing in an UpdatePanel I have some filters for that list in the form a checkboxList control. The checkboxList is created dynamically on page load During the Ajax update (postback), the checkbox list is not populated form the viewstate, so I cannot get the listing to filter. • "É" not getting converted to two bytes correctly.

  Further to this question I've got a supplementary problem. I've found a track with an "É" in the title. My code: var playList = new StreamWriter(playlist, false, Encoding.UTF8); - private static void WriteUTF8(StreamWriter playList, string output) { byte[] byteArray = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(output); foreach (byte b in byteArray) { playList.Write(Convert.ToChar(b)); } } converts this to the following bytes: 195 137 which is being output as à followed by a square (which is an character that can't be printed in the current font). I've exported the same file to a playlist in Media Monkey at it writes the "É" as "É" - which I'm assuming is correct (as KennyTM pointed out). My question is, how do I get the "‰" symbol output? Do I need to select a different font and if so which one? UPDATE People seem to be missing the point. I can get the "É" written to the file using playList.WriteLine("É"); that's not the problem. The problem is that Media Monkey requires the file to be in the following format: #EXTINFUTF8:140,Yann Tiersen - Comptine D'Un Autre Été: L'Après Midi #EXTINF:140,Yann Tiersen - Comptine D'Un Autre Été: L'Après Midi #UTF8:04-Comptine D'Un Autre Été- L'Après Midi.mp3 04-Comptine D'Un Autre Été- L'Après Midi.mp3 Where all the "high-ascii" (for want of a better term) are written out as a pair of characters.

  Assume that I have the ItemSource bound and i am getting the data. Now what I want is this. The ItemSource will contain Data that tells where each button should be. • WPF Grid Column MaxWidth not enforced

  This problem stems from not being able to get my TextBlock to wrap. Basically as a last-ditch attempt I am setting MaxWidth on my container grid's columns. I was surprised to find that my child label and textbox still do whatever they want (bad children, BAD) and are not limited by my grid column's MaxWidth="200". What I'm really trying to do is let my TextBlock fill available width and wrap if necessary. So far after trying many variations of HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" on every known parent in the universe, nothing works, except setting an explicit MaxWidth="400" or whatever number on the TextBlock. This is not good because I need the TextBlock to fill available width, not be limited by some fixed number. • Why do Firefox and Opera ignore max-width inside of display: table-cell?

  The following code displays correctly in Chrome or IE (the image is 200px wide). In Firefox and Opera the max-width style is ignored completely. Why does this happen and is there a good work around? Also, which way is most standards compliant? Note One possible work around for this particular situation is to set max-width to 200px. However, this is a rather contrived example.   Hi, I'm trying to edit my sidebar.php file in my current them WP is using to display the last # of posts (only the titles) as links. I tried using the example of http://codex.wordpress.org/Integrating_WordPress_with_Your_Website but I always get the error on the line that states where the file wp-blog-header can be found. the error when opening the index blog page where the sidebar should be shown: // Get the last 3 posts. I've generated few files with 150kB size each to test the crawler. So I think the 20+ responses are limited by the bandwidth?   Hi, I'm trying to insert reCaptcha code into my page from jQuery, but it doesn't work. I could set the visibility of the container that holds the reCaptcha to invisible (display: none;), but it will dowload the content irrespectively of it. I can insert the "noScript" code that reCaptcha gives us, but it doesn't work either, because it can spot that the browser allow javascript but I use noScript. Any suggestions? (I know I put my public reCaptcha key into the code, but it is just for testing purposes, and you could get it from my html or javascript code anyway)

  in my project there's a service that listens for changes in the connectivity. When wifi is switched off to on then it gets called.   Hi, I am using PHP 5.2 on SUN OS server. Having problems with the following piece of code that for a drop down: echo '<form action="" method="get">'; echo '<p>Information:<br />'; echo '<select name="acctno" style="width: 100px;">'; foreach ($this->account_names as $acctno => $acctname) { echo '<option value="'.$acctno.'">'.$acctname.'</option>'; } echo '</select> <input type="submit" value="view" />'; echo '</form>'; Worked perfectly fine on Firefox and Chrome; however there is a problem with Internet Explorer. In IE the dropdown width is limited to the size i.e 100px. So only the first 15-16 characters of the account name are displayed all the time. However in chrome or firefox, even if only 15-16 characters are displayed initially, when the drop down arrow is clicked upon, it show the entire name (however long it may be). This does not happen with IE. So if the account name is, lets say, "1223456789abcdefghijkl" then: For IE: shows only "123456789" all the time Ffor chrome or firefox: shows "123456789" and when it is dropped down it show the full name as "123456789abcdefghijkl".   Sorry for being an uber pain people, its all very new :( Already had alot of help on this, but don't seem to be able to see the problem, I am trying to populate a combo box with a list of all the current OU's, later to send each machine within that OU a shutdown command.
