  Hi. Maybe a bit complex to explain. I have a grid with 9 images 100 x 100 px like this (each number symbolize a picture): 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 What I want is that the user can drag and drop e.g. 9 over 1 and they change places like this: 9 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 1 Sortables from jquery UI will not work since their solution is using floats. That will "push" all the boxes to the right or left e.g.: 9 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 thanks in advance.

I have a site where I want the user to be able to leave comments on various Models. acts_as_commentable is the obvious starting point for this, but I'm curious if there is a gem / plug-in with a more robust feature-set. For example: Pre-built partial(s) (w/ or w/o Twitter / FB buttons) Partial(s) that utilize jQuery Twitter and / or FB tunnels (push to the users twitter / FB when they comment) Pre-built mechanism for pushing other users comments to users viewing that Model I can see how some of this functionality could be app specific, however, a generic implementation seems like it would be useful. I'm curious if something like this exists or not.

  Hi there, I have a problem with dynamically added script element (using jQuery). Code for adding new script element to DOM is this: var pScript = document.createElement("script"); pScript.type = "text/javascript"; pScript.src = sFile; // Add element to the end of head element $("head").append(pScript); The script is added with no problem, and the code runs perfectly. But, the problem occurs when I try to find the newly added script. I use this code to iterate through all script elements: var bAdd = true; $("script").each(function() { if(this.src == sFile) bAdd = false; }); (I need this code to prevent adding script that is already loaded) Problem is that all other script elements have src attribute set, but the newly added (dynamically) has not... Any idea?

  I need to change default actions of two events. When I press "enter" one action occurs, when I press "shift-enter" another. I need to switch it. I means if I press "enter" than "shift-enter" action occurs. • How can I determine img width/height of dynamically loaded images in IE?

  My markup is a simple div element with id 'load'. Using jQuery I then load a list of image elements into this div: $('#load').load('images.html', { }, function() { $(this).onImagesLoad({ selectorCallback: function() { ....do something.... } }); }); where images.html is a list like this: <img src='1.jpg' caption='img 1'> <img src='2.jpg' caption='img 2'> ... To ensure that all images are loaded completely, I use the onImagesLoad plugin. This, so far, works just fine on all browsers. However, on IE8 (and I assume other versions of IE also) when I then iterate over the img elements, I am unable to determine the width/height of the images loaded. The image.context.naturalWidth and naturalHeight attributes don't seem to work. How do I get a hold of the images' dimension? Thanks heaps :)

• Conventional Approaches for Passing Data to Back-End?

  Hi guys, I'm fairly new to web development, so please pardon the painfully newbie question that's about to follow. My computer science class group and I are developing a web application for class, which is built in Python (under Django) and uses jQuery on the front end. It's primarily an AJAX-ified application, and passing data from the backend to the front end is done through AJAX calls to specific URLs which return JSON. This is probably a stupid question, but what's the conventional approach for passing data in the opposite direction? We don't want to reload the page or anything, so is it an AJAX pass going the other way or something? Thanks in advance for your help!

• Possible to bind an event listener to a (hypothetical) onChangeInnerHTML event?

  In my app, I have an OL tag whose contents are changed by various other dynamic events. Is there some way to put a listener on that OL so that I can execute a function whenever its contents are altered in any way? In this example I need to update a count of items in the list which appears in another spot in the interface. I am using jQuery if that helps. The contents of the OL are being changed with OL.append() and LI.remove(), in case those methods have some special events that I don't know about Thanks!

Now what I want to do is change the background image of the current page to the background image of the page I'm loading from. • Static footer, with attached and scaling overlap

  I have been asked by a client to create a site where the content area overlaps the footer. However they also want the footer to be attached to the bottom of the viewport, which I've done, but it seems that I can't find a good way to vertically stretch the content to maintain the overlap should the browser be resized. I've created a diagram to help explain, http://www.squaresphere.co.uk/images/footer-diagram.png So ideally I need a way of calculating the height of the content and stretching the content div if content_length viewport.height, but keep a min-height if content_length < viewport.height A solution using html+css would be fantastic, but I'm starting to think that I'm going to have to do some funky jQuery onviewportresize or something Any suggestions would be awesome, thanks!

  When embedding JavaScript in an HTML document, where is the best place to put the <script> tags and included JavaScript? I seem to recall that you are not supposed to place these in the <head> section, but placing at the beginning of the <body> section is bad, too, since the JavaScript will have to be parsed before the page is rendered completely (or something like that). This seems to leave the end of the <body> section as a logical place for <script> tags. So, where is the best place to put the <script> tags? (This question references this question, in which it was suggested that JavaScript function calls should be moved from <a> tags to <script> tags. I'm specifically using JQuery, but more general answers are also appropriate.)

  I have a image map set up and each area in the image map has a href defined. the href on area contains urls to other pages in my application. i generate a have a small ul which lists down name attribute of the area tag. i want the dynamically generated ul/lis to imitate click behaviour of area tag. for this, i have the following jquery set up - $('li').click(function(e){ $('area[name='+$(this).html()+']').trigger('click'); }); but the above works well only in ie6+. ff does not fire the click event. i also tried the click() variant but to no avail. looking forward for some help. • Returning the html from .ajax call

  I'm getting undefined for some reason when I try to return the html via the callback function: function getDataFromUrl(urlWithContent) { // jQuery async request $.ajax( { url: urlWithContent, dataType: "html", success: function(data) { return $('.result').html(data); }, error: function(e) { alert('Error: ' + e); } }); } I know I'm getting data back, I see it in firebug in the response and also when I alert out the data, I see the entire page content come up in the alert box. When I call my function, I am doing the following: var divContent = getDataFromUrl(dialogDiv.attr("href")); if(divContent) dialogDiv.innerHTML = divContent; when I alert out the divContent (before the if statement) I'm getting undefined. Maybe I'm just going about this wrong on how I'm returning back the data? I also tried just return data; same thing, I get undefined after the call to this method when set to my variable.

• To trigger everytime with .click()?

  I tried to have a .click() on a <a> to find out it wont trigger every time I click, what it suppose to do is open a dialog. That is not the only problem I would need to pass a value to my jquery to. I just cant figure this one out. I need it to be a <a> because it's gone be in a dropdown menu. • Why can't I use relative URLs with IE7?

  Hello everyone. I've been Googling for a while and can't seem to find an answer to this question. My problem is as follows: For my jquery, I need my links to be relative rather than absolute. My PHP is set to return relative urls and everything is working fine, until I test it in IE7. For some reason, IE7 keeps changing my relative urls to abosulute, which breaks my js script. Is this normal? Is there a way to get around it? For example: IE8, Chrome, Firefox, Safari etc - <a href='/page' onclick='click_handler(this);return false;'>clicky</a> IE7 - <a href='http://www.myurl.com/page' onclick='click_handler(this);return false;'>clicky</a>

• ASP.NET: How to assign ID to a field in DetailsView?

  I have a master-detail page, in which I use GridView to display multiple rows of data, and DetailsView + jQuery dialog to display the details of a single records. only one DetailsView is open at a time. I need to be able to pull out a single field of the open DetailsView, for manipulation using JavaScript. Is there a way to give a unique ID to a given field in DetailsView, so I can use getElementByID? Or is there another way to accomplish what I'm trying to do? Thank you in advance.

• How can I close a SimpleModal dialog when the user clicks the Back button?

  When a user clicks on a button or link, I use the SimpleModal jQuery plugin to display a dialog to overlay the entire page, preventing the user from clicking another button or link during the delay before the next page loads. (I'd like to avoid this, but that's an issue for another day.) After the next page displays, if the user clicks the Back button, the previous page still has the SimpleModal overlay displayed, preventing them from using the page. This is a problem. How can I cause the SimpleModal dialog to close automatically either when the leaves the page or when the user clicks the Back button to return to the page? What I would like is an extra arguement that would say: [pseudocode] if (linksRel == "lightbox1") { add stylesheet1 to this lightbox } else { add stylesheet2 to this lightbox } [/pseudocode] Currently, I have a page with a "colorbox.css" file attached and the" jquery.colorbox.js" file as well - But I want the JS file to import the required CSS dependant on what link was clicked... • Loading an XML file with todays date in the filename... need to fallback to old file if one with tod

Using javascript/jQuery I am currently loading in an XML file that has a file name such as carousel_large_2010-06-08.xml.. the way I am doing it is checked for todays date then grabbing a file that has that date in the filename... the issue is sometimes they wont be uploading a new file for a given day so it needs to fallback to a older date that exists.. Wondering how to do it?   Hi, I've had my first nightmare client recently who was messing me around with payment for a project. So... I've come to an agreement with another client to use some of the sites scripting to build a site for them. But, now the original client wants their site too. I have made a deal to licence the reused parts of the site (some jQuery scripts and a dynamic flash gallery) rather than me signing over full copyright. However, I haven't got a clue how to do this.   Im trying to set up a simple mp3 player: <script language="javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $('a.media').media( { width: 300, height: 20 } ); }); </script> and then <a class="media" href="piano.mp3">piano</a> But i get the following error: Failed to load resource I have followed the tutorial at http://jquery.malsup.com/media/audio.html, and if i click to view source and clikc on piano.mp3 chrome opens up its built in media player and plays the song, so the link and location is correct... • Fetching content from Website on another Server

  Hi everyone. What i basically want to do is to get content from a website and load it into a div of another website. This should be no problem so far. The problem is, that the content that should be fetched is located on a different server and i have no source access to it. I'd prefer a solution using JavaScript of jQuery. Can i use a .htacces redirect to fetch the content from a remote server with client-side (js) techniques? I will also go with other solutions though. Thanks a lot in advance!
