I've been working on an application that allows the end user to record a small audio file for later playback and am in the process of testing for memory leaks. I continue to very consistently run into a memory leak when the AVAudioRecorder's "stop" method attempts to close the audio file to which it's been recording. This really seems to be a leak in the framework itself, but if I'm being a bonehead you can tell me. To illustrate, I've worked up a stripped down test app that does nothing but start/stop a recording w/ the press of a button. • DynamicMethod for ConstructorInfo.Invoke, what do I need to consider?

  My question is this: If I'm going to build a DynamicMethod object, corresponding to a ConstructorInfo.Invoke call, what types of IL do I need to implement in order to cope with all (or most) types of arguments, when I can guarantee that the right type and number of arguments is going to be passed in before I make the call? Background I am on my 3rd iteration of my IoC container, and currently doing some profiling to figure out if there are any areas where I can easily shave off large amounts of time being used. One thing I noticed is that when resolving to a concrete type, ultimately I end up with a constructor being called, using ConstructorInfo.Invoke, passing in an array of arguments that I've worked out. What I noticed is that the invoke method has quite a bit of overhead, and I'm wondering if most of this is just different implementations of the same checks I do. For instance, due to the constructor matching code I have, to find a matching constructor for the predefined parameter names, types, and values that I have passed in, there's no way this particular invoke call will not end up with something it should be able to cope with, like the correct number of arguments, in the right order, of the right type, and with appropriate values. When doing a profiling session containing a million calls to my resolve method, and then replacing it with a DynamicMethod implementation that mimics the Invoke call, the profiling timings was like this: ConstructorInfo.Invoke: 1973ms DynamicMethod: 93ms This accounts for around 20% of the total runtime of this profiling application. In other words, by replacing the ConstructorInfo.Invoke call with a DynamicMethod that does the same, I am able to shave off 20% runtime when dealing with basic factory-scoped services (ie. all resolution calls end up with a constructor call). I think this is fairly substantial, and warrants a closer look at how much work it would be to build a stable DynamicMethod generator for constructors in this context. So, the dynamic method would take in an object array, and return the constructed object, and I already know the ConstructorInfo object in question. Therefore, it looks like the dynamic method would be made up of the following IL: l001: ldarg.0 ; the object array containing the arguments l002: ldc.i4.0 ; the index of the first argument l003: ldelem.ref ; get the value of the first argument l004: castclass T ; cast to the right type of argument (only if not "Object") (repeat l001-l004 for all parameters, l004 only for non-Object types, varying l002 constant from 0 and up for each index) l005: newobj ci ; call the constructor l006: ret Is there anything else I need to consider? Note that I'm aware that creating dynamic methods will probably not be available when running the application in "reduced access mode" (sometimes the brain just won't give up those terms), but in that case I can easily detect that and just calling the original constructor as before, with the overhead and all.

• Disable Autocommit in H2 with Hibernate/C3P0 ?

  I have a JPA/Hibernate application and am trying to get it to run against H2 (as well as other databases). Currently I am using Atomikos for transaction and C3P0 for connection pooing.   i have no option to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on my computer. Why is the option to install Windows 7 SP1 missing from Windows Update? i'm less interested in why the option is missing, and more interested in how to diagnose why the option to install Windows 7 SP1 is being hidden. Following the suggestions in KB2498452 - You do not have the option of downloading Windows 7 SP1 when you use Windows Update to check for updates: Confirm that Windows 7 SP1 is not already installed and that you are not running a prerelease version of Windows 7 SP1 i am not already running SP1, or a pre-release SP1: Check for pending updates Update 976902 may have to be installed on your computer before Windows 7 SP1 will be offered in Windows Update. i already have 976902 installed: Verify that an incompatible version of SafeCentral is not installed on your computer Windows SP1 may not appear in Windows Update if certain versions of SafeCentral are installed on your computer. Nor am i particularly interested in a direct download link. i want to learn here. i want to be able to diagnose (i.e. in the future) why an update is not being offered. i'm a superuser here. Rather than others coming up with a checklist of things to try, i want to be able to come up with the checklist.

The top Content links back to the Package, with cascade set to ALL. The top Content may have many "sub" Contents, and each sub-Content may have many sub-Contents of its own. Each sub-Content has a parent Package, which may or may not be the same Package as the top Content (ie a many-to-one relationship for Content to Package). The relationships are required to be ManyToOne (Package to Content) and ManyToMany (Content to sub-Contents) but for the case I am currently testing each sub-Content only relates to one Package or Content. The problem is that when I delete a Package and flush the session, I get a Hibernate error stating that I'm violating a foreign key constraint on table subcontents, with a particular content_id still referenced from table subcontents. I've tried specifically (recursively) deleting the Contents before deleting the Package but I get the same error. Is there a reason why this entity tree is not being deleted properly? EDIT: After reading answers/comments I realised that a Content cannot have multiple Packages, and a sub-Content cannot have multiple parent-Contents, so I have modified the annotations from ManyToOne and ManyToMany to OneToOne and OneToMany. Unfortunately that did not fix the problem. I have also added the bi-directional link from Content back to the parent Package which I left out of the simplified code.

  Hello i am using the AsyncFileUpload from the ajaxtoolkit, upter the upload is complete , i want to display all the images that were uploaded (and their URL is inserted into the DB) with my repeater and binding method. but its not working! the images are uploaded, the DB insert works file, but i cant see the images after the repeater is dinded. • PHP SASL(PECL) sasl_server_init(app) works with CLI but not with ApacheModule

  I have written a simple auth script so that Webusers can type in their username and password and my PHP script verifies them by SASL. The SASL Library is initialized by php function sasl_server_init("phpfoo"). So phpfoo.conf in /etc/sasl2/ is used. phpfoo.conf: pwcheck_method: saslauthd mech_list: PLAIN LOGIN log_level: 9 So the SASL library now tries to connect to saslauthd process by socket. saslauthd command line looks like this: /usr/sbin/saslauthd -r -V -a pam -n 5 So saslauthd uses PAM to authenticate. In the php script I have created sasl connection by sasl_server_new("php", null, "myRealm"); The first argument is the servicename. So PAM uses the file /etc/pam.d/php to see for further authentication information. /etc/pam.d/php: auth required pam_mysql.so try_first_pass=0 config_file=/etc/pam.d/mysqlconf.nss account required pam_permit.so session required pam_permit.so mysqlconf.nss has all information that is needed for a useful MySQL Query to user table. All of this works perfectly when I run the script by command line. php ssasl.php But when I call the same script via webbrowser(php apache module) I get an -20 return code (SASL_NOUSER). In /var/log/messages there is May 18 15:27:12 hostname httpd2-prefork: unable to open Berkeley db /etc/sasldb2: No such file or directory I do not have anything with a Berkeley db for authentication with SASL. I think authentication using /etc/sasldb2 is the default setting. In my opinion it does not read my phpfoo.conf file. For some reason the php-apache-module ignores the parameter in sasl_server_init("phpfoo"). My first thought was that there is a permission issue. So back in shell: su -s /bin/bash wwwrun php ssasl.php "Authentication successful". - No file-permission issue. In the source of the sasl-php-extension we can find: PHP_FUNCTION(sasl_server_init) { char *name; int name_len; if (zend_parse_parameters(1 TSRMLS_CC, "s", &name, &name_len) == FAILURE) { return; } if (sasl_server_init(NULL, name) != SASL_OK) { RETURN_FALSE; } RETURN_TRUE; } This is a simple pass through of the string. Anyway, there are some interesting log entries when I run PHP in CLI mode: May 18 15:44:48 hostname php: SQL engine 'mysql' not supported May 18 15:44:48 hostname php: auxpropfunc error no mechanism available May 18 15:44:48 hostname php: _sasl_plugin_load failed on sasl_auxprop_plug_init for plugin: sqlite May 18 15:44:48 hostname php: sql_select option missing May 18 15:44:48 hostname php: auxpropfunc error no mechanism available May 18 15:44:48 hostname php: _sasl_plugin_load failed on sasl_auxprop_plug_init for plugin: sql Those lines are followed by lines of saslauthd and PAM which results in authentication success.(I do not get any of them in ApacheModule mode) Looks like that he is trying auxprop pwcheck before saslauthd. I have no other .conf file in /etc/sasl2. When I change the parameter of sasl_server_init to something other then I get the same error in CLI mode as in ApacheModule mode.

• Android: Using onStart() method in Bluetooth application

  Hello, I am getting a nullpointer exception when my onStart() method is called. Here is the breakdown of my Android app: Opening the app brings a user to the homescreen: The user is then presented with the first 6 icons to choose from. When the user presses the "Sugar" icon it takes them to the SugarTabActivity. The SugarTabActivity is a Tabbed layout with two tabs. I'm concerned with the first tab. The first tab calls the getDefaultAdapter() method in its onCreate() method. Once it calls this, it checks if the bluetooth adapter is null on the phone, and if its null it shows a toast saying "Bluetooth is not available". This works just fine. Then I call the onStart() method. In the onStart() method I check if bluetooth is enabled, and if it isnt, then I start a new activity from the BluetoothAdapter enable bluetooth intent; otherwise, I start my bluetooth service. • DataTable identity column not set after DataAdapter.Update/Refresh on table with "instead of"-trigge

  Within our unit tests we use plain ADO.NET (DataTable, DataAdapter) for preparing the database resp. checking the results, while the tested components themselves run under NHibernate 2.1. .NET version is 3.5, SqlServer version is 2005. The database tables have identity columns as primary keys. Some tables apply instead-of-insert/update triggers (this is due to backward compatibility, nothing I can change). The triggers generally work like this: create trigger dbo.emp_insert on dbo.emp instead of insert as begin set nocount on insert into emp ... select @@identity end The insert statement issued by the ADO.NET DataAdapter (generated on-the-fly by a thin ADO.NET wrapper) tries to retrieve the identity value back into the DataRow: exec sp_executesql N' insert into emp (...) values (...); select id, ... from emp where id = @@identity ' But the DataRow's id-Column is still 0. When I remove the trigger temporarily, it works fine - the id-Column then holds the identity value set by the database. NHibernate on the other hand uses this kind of insert statement: exec sp_executesql N' insert into emp (...) values (...); select scope_identity() ' This works, the NHibernate POCO has its id property correctly set right after flushing. Which seems a little bit counter-intuitive to me, as I expected the trigger to run in a different scope, hence @@identity should be a better fit than scope_identity(). So I thought no problem, I will apply scope_identity() instead of @@identity under ADO.NET as well. But this has no effect, the DataRow value is still not updated accordingly. And now for the best part: When I copy and paste those two statements from SqlServer profiler into a Management Studio query (that is including "exec sp_executesql"), and run them there, the results seem to be inverse! There the ADO.NET version works, and the NHibernate version doesn't (select scope_identity() returns null). I tried several times to verify, but to no avail. Of course this just shows the resultset coming from the database, whatever happens inside NHibernate and ADO.NET is another topic. Also, several session properties defined by T-SQL SET are different in the two scenarios (Management Studio query vs. application at runtime) This is a real puzzle to me. Since I dont have any user interaction in a nightly batch process, I cannot use the ConnectToFaceBook method on the FaceBookService to obtain a sessionKey for the user. Ideally I would like to prompt for authorization and extended permissions for my desktop app when a user logins into the web front end then save the sessionKey and uid in the database. At night when my process runs, I would reference the sessionKey and uid in order and update the user's status. I am finding myself fumbling between whether or not my app should be a web or desktop app. Having both a web and desktop app would be confusing to my users, because they would have to grant/manage permissions for both apps. • SIMPLE OpenSSL RSA Encryption in C/C++ is causing me headaches

  Hey guys, I'm having some trouble figuring out how to do this. Basically I just want a client and server to be able to send each other encrypted messages. This is going to be incredibly insecure because I'm trying to figure this all out so I might as well start at the ground floor. So far I've got all the keys working but encryption/decryption is giving me hell. I'll start by saying I am using C++ but most of these functions require C strings so whatever I'm doing may be causing problems. Note that on the client side I receive the following error in regards to decryption. error:04065072:rsa routines:RSA_EAY_PRIVATE_DECRYPT:padding check failed I don't really understand how padding works so I don't know how to fix it. • Django + FastCGI - randomly raising OperationalError

  I'm running a Django application. Had it under Apache + mod_python before, and it was all OK. Switched to Lighttpd + FastCGI. Now I randomly get the following exception (neither the place nor the time where it appears seem to be predictable). Since it's random, and it appears only after switching to FastCGI, I assume it has something to do with some settings. Found a few results when googleing, but they seem to be related to setting maxrequests=1. However, I use the default, which is 0. Any ideas where to look for? PS. I'm using PostgreSQL. Might be related to that as well, since the exception appears when making a database query. Thanks. This incident has the following relationships: belongs_to: customer (customer has_many incidents) belongs_to: user (user has_many incidents) has_one: incident_status (incident_status belongs to incident) The form allows the user to assign the incident to a user (select form) and then select an incident status. The incident is nested in customer.
