• How to change a UIBarButtonItem in a UINavigationBar

  I'm trying to set up a list of items that can be edited. I have a main view, with a UINavigationBar at the top and a UITableView directly under it. I'd like to have my "edit" button change to a "done" button on click, but I can't figure out how to do it. If I could do it in the code (not it interface builder), I could just replace it, but I can't even do that. I've seen some code using [self.navigationItem], but in my case self is a UIView. It also feels a bit odd to be using a UINavigationBar when I don't want navigation (this is one page only), but I want a toolbar with a title and and a button, so I don't think really have a choice.

• How to have a PHP Website tool with a version check

  Hi, So I work on a small php website tool that a few people use and what I'm looking to have added is a little version checker in it. The tool is normally hosted by others on different servers/domains/whatever have you so I'm having a bit of a trouble figuring out how I can accomplish this and do so in the best possible method. So what I'm looking to do is have a webpage that just has a number on it which is the latest version. Lets say 3.2.2 is displayed on www.myawesomephptool.com/version.html in some way shape or form . Now on their installation when they open up their admin page it pulls in that 3.2.2 as the latest version to see if they are on that version. So trying to keep it simple on requirements too. • Efficiently check string for one of several hundred possible suffixes

  I need to write a C/C++ function that would quickly check if string ends with one of ~1000 predefined suffixes. Specifically the string is a hostname and I need to check if it belongs to one of several hundred predefined second-level domains. This function will be called a lot so it needs to be written as efficiently as possible. Bitwise hacks etc anything goes as long as it turns out fast. Set of suffixes is predetermined at compile-time and doesn't change. I am thinking of either implementing a variation of Rabin-Karp or write a tool that would generate a function with nested ifs and switches that would be custom tailored to specific set of suffixes. Since the application in question is 64-bit to speed up comparisons I could store suffixes of up to 8 bytes in length as const sorted array and do binary search within it. Are there any other reasonable options?

• Working with bytes and binary data in Python

  Four consecutive bytes in a byte string together specify some value. However, only 7 bits in each byte are used; the most significant bit is ignored (that makes 28 bits altogether). So... b"\x00\x00\x02\x01" would be 000 0000 000 0000 000 0010 000 0001. Or, for the sake of legibility, 10 000 0001. That's the value the four bytes represent. But I want a decimal, so I do this: >>> 0b100000001 257 I can work all that out myself, but how would I incorporate it into a program?

• What image format is fastest for BlackBerry?

  I'm trying to load some images using Bitmap.getBitmapResource(), but it takes about 2 or 3 seconds per image to load. I'm testing on the Storm, specifically. The odd thing is, when I install OS 5.0, the loading goes in a snap, no delay at all. Should I be looking at the format used? Or where the files are stored? I've tried both 24- and 8-bit PNGs, with transparency. The files are stored in a subdirectory in the COD, so getBitmapResource is passed a path, like "images/img1.png" instead of just "img1.png". Is any of this making things slower?

• LaTeX at symbol

  What does the @ symbol mean in LaTeX? I'm looking at the source of apa.cls, and there's a declaration: \newsavebox\gr@box and later on \sbox\gr@box{\includegraphics[width=\linewidth]{#2}}. It seems like @ isn't acting as a normal character, but I can't figure out exactly what it's doing, and couldn't find anything after bit of googling (how I would love a Google regex feature!) Thanks. EDIT: Thanks for the help; of the links I looked through I found http://www.tug.org/pipermail/tugindia/2002-January/000178.html to be very helpful and concise. To summarize, the @ character is not normally allowed in the names of macros, so as a hack for scoping, LaTeX packages declare it internally to be a valid name character and use it for their macros. You can use \makeatletter in a document to access these macros, but you obviously must be very careful since you have can now overwrite essential LaTeX kernel macros; use \makeatother to revert.

• Lock Free Queue -- Single Producer, Multiple Consumers

  Hello, I am looking for a method to implement lock-free queue data structure that supports single producer, and multiple consumers. I have looked at the classic method by Maged Michael and Michael Scott (1996) but their version uses linked lists. I would like an implementation that makes use of bounded circular buffer. Something that uses atomic variables? On a side note, I am not sure why these classic methods are designed for linked lists that require a lot of dynamic memory management. In a multi-threaded program, all memory management routines are serialized. Aren't we defeating the benefits of lock-free methods by using them in conjunction with dynamic data structures? I am trying to code this in C/C++ using pthread library on a Intel 64-bit architecture. Thank you, Shirish

  In my Core Data app I am using a FetchedResultsController. Usually to set titles for headers in a UITableView you would implement the following method like so: - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { id <NSFetchedResultsSectionInfo> sectionInfo = [[<#Fetched results controller#> sections] objectAtIndex:section]; return [sectionInfo name]; } where [sectionInfo name] returns a NSString. my sectionKeyPath is based on an NSDate and this all works fine apart from the section headers it gives me are the raw date description strings (e.g. 12/12/2009 12:32:32 +0100) which look a bit of a mess in a header! So I want to use a date formatter on this to make a nice header like "Apr 17 2010" but I can't do that with the [sectionInfo name] as this is NSString! Any Ideas? Many Thanks

• Acer aspire 5735z wireless not working after upgrade to 11.10

  I cant get my wifi card to work at all after upgrading to 11.10 Oneiric. I'm not sure where to start to fix this. Ive tried using the additional drivers tool but this shows that no additional drivers are needed. Before my upgrade I had a drivers working for the Rt2860 chipset. • How do I wait for "animated scroll to id" to complete before focusing on first form field?

  So, I have a link at the bottom of website. When it is clicked, it scrolls to a form at the top of the page with the animated style. And as it arrives at top of page, it focuses on the first field in form. Currently, this is my code: $(document).ready(function() { $('#goto-show-form').click(function() { $('html, body').animate({scrollTop: $("#show-form").offset().top}, '500'); $('#first-field').focus(); return false; }); }); What happens is it begins scrolling, then focuses to form field while still in process of scrolling, then returns to last position in scrolling process and continues scrolling up. Instead of being smooth, you can see it cuts back and forth. How can I tell jquery to wait until scrolling is complete before focusing to the form field? • POSIX-compatible regex library for Visual Studio C

  I'm working on a C program which will be run in Linux and from inside Visual Studio 2010, and I'm looking for a regex library. GNU comes with a POSIX-compatible regex library, but Visual Studio, despite having C++ std::regex, doesn't have a C-compatible library. GNU has a Windows version of their library (http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/regex.htm), but the DLLs are 32-bit only and the source code can't compile in Visual Studio (~500 errors!). My only requirement is that the end-user should not have to install anything extra, and should get the same behaviour on both platforms. I'm not picky about whether it's POSIX-style, Perl-style or something else. What should I do? Thanks in advance.

For the most part I'm able to follow what's going on, but there are a few method declarations like the one below that I'm having a bit of trouble parsing. For example: - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger) section { return [self.controllers count]; //controllers is an instance variable of type NSArray in this class } It looks this is a method called numberOfRowsInSection, and it returns an NSInteger, and takes an NSInteger as a parameter which is locally called 'section'. But I don't understand all the references to tableView, or why this takes a parameter when it is not used within the method. Can somebody clarify this?   When I run maven install on my multi module maven project I always get the following output: [WARNING] File encoding has not been set, using platform encoding UTF-8, i.e. build is platform dependent! So, I googled around a bit, but all I can find is that I have to add <properties> <project.build.sourceEncoding>UTF-8</project.build.sourceEncoding> </properties> to my pom.xml. But it's already there (in the parent pom.xml). Configuring <encoding> for the maven-resources-plugin or the maven-compiler-plugin also doesn't fix it. So what's the problem?

  I'm a desktop application developer, and I plan learning html5, but as it's not released, there are (almost) no published books and not too much infomation for beginners on the web... I feel I should start with html4 and the current web development skills. I think I should start with html4, css, and javascript... but there are so many technologies related that I get lost :D So, what current technologies will be still used when html5 is released? I mean, what about "jquery" and "ajax"? I know they are javascript under the hood, but will they still make sense in the future? What would you recommend me considering that I have just a little bit of html knowlegde, almost null CSS and completely null in javascript?

• Mapping of memory addresses to physical modules in Windows XP

  I plan to run 32-bit Windows XP on a workstation with dual processors, based on Intel's Nehalem microarchitecture, and triple channel RAM. Even though XP is limited to 4 GB of RAM, my understanding is that it will function with more than 4 GB installed, but will only expose 4 GB (or slightly less). My question is: Assuming that 6 GB of RAM is installed in six 1 GB modules, which physical 4 GB will Windows actually map into its address space? In particular: Will it use all six 1 GB modules, taking advantage of all memory channels? (My guess is yes, and that the mapping to individual modules within a group happens in hardware.) Will it map 2 GB of address space to each of the two NUMA nodes (as each processor has it's own memory interface), or will one processor get fast access to 3 GB of RAM, while the other only has 1 GB?   Objective: I have a list of header files (about 50 of them), And each header-file has few arrays with constant elements. I need to write a program to count the elements of the array. And create some other form of output (which will be used by the hardware group). My solution: I included all the 50 odd files and wrote an application. And then I dumped all the elements of the array into the specified format. My environment: Visual Studio V6, Windows XP My problem: Each time there is a new set of Header files, I am now changing the VC++ project settings to point to the new set of header files, and then rebuild. My question: A bit in-sane though, Is there any way to mention the header from some command line arguments or something? I just want to avoid re-compiling the source every time...

  Hi I execute a lot of custom actions in my InnoSetup script in the CurStepChanged(ssPostInstall) PascalScripting event handler. As these actions take some time to finish, I'd like to update the InnoSetup Wizard GUI status text and tell the user what is going on behind the scenes. Something similar that is possible in the [Run] section using the "StatusMsg" parameter. I know that I could use the TOutputProgressWizardPage/CreateOutputProgressPage(), and I did in a previous project, but it's a bit too much overkill to my liking... Is there a simpler possibility to update the InnoSetup Wizard GUI status text from PascalScripting code with the same effect as the StatusMsg parameter?

  I'm trying to get a window handle on a child window in my process and the only information I have is the window class name. Are there any win32 functions I can use for that? I'm doing this from C#. A bit more detail: This is a Visual Studio plugin, written in C#. So my process is visual studio, which has lots of windows. One of them has a window class "VsTipWindow". I don't know the immediate parent window of that window, all I have is the class name. Is there any way for me to get the window handle from just that?

• Using malloc/free in Objective-C object

  I have a class AudioManager with a member of type AudioBufferList *. (This is a struct declared in the CoreAudio framework). Since AudioBufferList is not a NSObject, I cannot retain it, so I have to alloc/free it (correct me if I'm wrong). My question is, where is the 'right' place to free it? Currently I am doing it in the dealloc method of AudioManager. If I understand correctly, this method is invoked automatically once the release message is sent to the instance of AudioManager --- is that true? Is there any other recommended practice regarding using alloc/free on non-objects members of Objective-C objects? Edit: From Apples documentation: Subclasses must implement their own versions of dealloc to allow the release of any additional memory consumed by the object—such as dynamically allocated storage for data or object instance variables owned by the deallocated object. After performing the class-specific deallocation, the subclass method should incorporate superclass versions of dealloc through a message to super: Which makes things a little bit clearer - but more insights are appreciated.
