    I'm trying to implement the state pattern for a multi-page registration form. The data on each page will be accumulated and stored in a session object. Should validation (including service layer calls to the DB) occur on the page level or inside each state class? In other words, should the concrete implementation of IState be concerned with the validation or should it be given a fully populated and valid object?     I've got a console app and i need to globalize some of the hardcoded message strings. I've got two assemblies: MyProgram.Console (Console app) MyProgram.Core (class lib) In MyProgram.Core I've made a Language.en-GB.resx and set it as an Embedded Resource. In the resource I've created a key/value pair: "SomeKey" : "SomeValue" When I build my application I get: bin/MyProgram.Console.exe bin/MyProgram.Core.dll bin/en-BG/MyProgram.Core.resources.dll How do I address these resource key/values? Currently I'm trying this from a class within MyProgram.Core: var mgr = new ResourceManager(GetType().Assembly.GetName().Name, Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly()); mgr.GetString("SomeKey", new Culture("en-GB")); But I keep getting: System.Resources.MissingManifestResourceException: Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "MyProgram.Core.resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "MyProgram.Core" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed. What am I doing wrong? I've tried every combination I can think of for the baseName argument to the ResourceManagers ctor. Thanks

  • ASP.NET-MVC2 Preview 1: Are There Any Breaking Changes?

    I was following Steven Sanderson's 'Pro ASP.NET MVC Framework' book. On page 132, in accordance with the author's recommendation, I downloaded the ASP.NET MVC Futures assembly, and added it to my MVC project. Then, without encouragement from the author, I downloaded, installed, and incorporated the ASP.NET MVC2 Preview 1 dlls into my project. Now, I can no longer load the website. That is, when I hit F5 in Visual Studio, I get this error. In retrospect, I think it was a really bad idea to assume that ASP.NET MVC2 Preview 1 would only be additive; but I'd like other people to weigh in. Has anyone noticed any breaking changes in ASP.NET MVC 2 Preview 1? Also - Has anyone noticed any changes that impact Castle Windsor? Also, please let me know if I should be mindful of IIS6 vs. IIS7 ramifications.

    I have a Visual Studio solution containing two web applications. I would like the first to depend on the second (pages in the first may contain links to, or possibly post to pages in the second). Furthermore, I would like to be able to launch the first project on a development server (standard debugging procedure for web apps in VS) and have the references to the second project be fully functional.     Hey guys, Perhaps I'm missing something real simple here, but I've been struggling to change the RTF property of my RichTextBox in order to apply some color coding to my text. Probably the most straight-forward example of the problem I'm having is setting the Rtf property to include a color table in its header. The default RTF string returned by the Rtf property: {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang1033{\fonttbl{\f0\fnil\fcharset0 Microsoft Sans Serif;}}\viewkind4\uc1\pard\f0\fs17\par} And the new RTF string I'd like to set with my color table: {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang1033{\fonttbl{\f0\fnil\fcharset0 Microsoft Sans Serif;}{\colortbl;\red128\green0\blue0;\red0\green128\blue0;\red0\green0\blue255;}}\viewkind4\uc1\pard\f0\fs17\par} And I set this using: RichTextBox richTextBox = new RichTextBox(); richTextBox.Rtf = rtfStr; // My new RTF string, as seen above. However, via debugger, it can be observed the that Rtf property stubbornly refuses to change; no exceptions are thrown, it just refuses to change. Same issue happens when I string.Replace() words to include RTF color tags around them. I've also tried turning off any ReadOnly properties on the text box.   • DateTime from Javascript post to Controller in ASP.NET results in null (01/01/0001)

    This is driving me crazy, similar to this. If I use a standard form and no javascript the controller correctly binds the datetime. However when I'm posting from a form it always binds as null: "MyObject.Name": "Test name", "MyObject.Date": "5/1/2001" I've tried a couple of variations, 5-1-2001, etc. but cannot seem to get it to take. I can confirm that it is being passed to the server as it shows up in the Request.Form string. My culture is Gregorian and I've set: Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = CultureInfo.InvariantCulture; In Application_BeginRequest(). What gives?

I can double click on my exe and choose a file to process with OpenFileDialog and it works fine. However, when I do open with, I get FileNotFound error.   • ASP.NET - Overriding Gridview OnRowCreated to add sort images -- columns are null

    I'm overriding the onrowcreated to add sort images to the header row of a gridview. This works, but actually adding a sortexpression doesn't. What I want to do is set the images as imagebuttons and set their commandarguments to the sort expression of the column they are sorting for. I would assume I could get the cell and from it's index get the gridviewcolumn. Then, I could just get the sortexpression of the gridview column, but this does not work. The columns are null. I'd like to compile a list/catalog of good questions, a kind of minimum standard to see if the applicants are experienced. So, my question is: What questions do you think should a good .NET programmer be able to respond? I'd also see it as a checklist for myself, in order to see where my own deficits are (there are many...). *UPDATE: It want to make clear that we're not testing only for .NET knowledge, and that problem solving capabilities and general programming skills are even more important to us.

  • Deployment Setup (.Net) - Search target machine -> Registry search (64 bit)

    I have a windows installer project which installs some software (winform, service, mce addin). During the installation I need to search the machine for a registry key. This is done with with the "Launch Condition" - "Add Registry Search" (Deployment Project). I have filled out all the properties right, and checked against the regestry that the value actually can be found. The problem is that the "Registry Search" searches in the x86 part of the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\...) although my system is a x64 and the deployment setup is also set to x64. Does anyone know how to force the "Registry Search" to search the x64 registry? Or know about a workaround? The weird thing about this, is that Registry setting in the deployment setup is writing to the right registry (x64). My idea is that the "Registry Search" program is only developed to the x86 architecture, and therefore can't read the right registry.
