Hi, I'm running Ubuntu 9.1 and every time I open a terminal window, I lose the previous command's history. How can I configure it so it's kept even after rebooting? Thanks.
I am running Exchange 2013 on Windows Server 2012 R2.
When I add my exchange account to Outlook, it seems to work perfectly (sending/receiving email, syncing everything), but when I open the account settings it has the following set as the Server:
[email protected]
I would have expects this to be: mail.domain.com since this is the DNS A record pointing to the IP of my server. Where is it getting this server name?
Hi guys,
This is a bit of a silly question, how do I run Thunderbird 3 which I downloaded? Well, I can get it to run by executing the 'thunderbird' shell script file. However that creates a terminal windows aswell and will close Thunderbird if it is closed.
How do I get it to open without the terminal?
Thanks.
Of course, I realize the need to go to IPv6 out on the open Internet since we are running out of addresses, but I really don't understand why there is any need to use it on an internal network. I have done zero with IPv6, so I also wonder: Won't modern firewalls do NAT between internal IPv4 addresses, and external IPv6 addresses?
I was just wondering since I have seen so many people struggling with IPv6 questions here, and wonder why bother?
Whenever I start up my laptop with Xubuntu on it, a Terminal window opens and just sits in the taskbar - as though I opened it myself.
Anyone know if there's some sort of list of applications which open at boot time. Maybe Terminal got on that list somehow?
I want an easier way to change my default sound device from my sound card to my usb headset.
Currently it takes a very precise right click, a left click, another right click, and two more left clicks.
Ideally i could just have it swap with a shortcut key. (it was a little easier in XP but not by much.)
A software solution is preferred, but I am open to suggestions that use hardware.
I am running Windows 7 currently.
I'm going to be installing Visual Studio 2010. I already have my source code on the SSD. For best performance, especially time to open the solution and compiling time, would it be better to install VS 2010 on the SSD or install it on the HDD.
If both were on the SSD, loading the VS 2010 files would be quicker, but there would be contention between loading the source and the program files.
Thanks!
When I run emacs with -nw option, the emacs really open, but I can't do more nothing. As if the user input is blocked and no keyboard signal is received and/or interpreted. I've tried run without load .emacs file and some other behaviors:
emacs -nw -Q --no-desktop --debug-ini foo.c
But makes no difference and strangely the GUI-version(using Gtk) is working fine.
My gnu-emacs version is GNU Emacs 23.3.1
Any help to help to fix it is very appreciated.
I installed Skype when logged on to the (local) admin account. Now, when I log off that, and log on as myname on the domain, I have to click through the intial setup steps (after you've already run the installer) of Skype. So, I have to click next to get through the mic setup/test, and it asks me if I want to take a pic.
How do I get it so that any person who logs in can just open Skype and go straight to the login screen?

Iam running Linux Mint on my laptop and i have some (serious) problems with Google Chrome.Randomly Chrome becomes totally unresponsive and iam not able to do anything, except restart the system from the power button.I think it's not an issue with system load and/or RAM,because if i for example open lot of "heavy" programs everything seems to work quite fine. When i only run Chrome with not many tabs at random times it freezes the whole system. The weird thing is that Chrome is not heavily loaded with tabs or extensions.I can't figure out what is causing this problem.Any suggestion?Thank you in advance.
I have an rpm for which I need to change the preinstal scriptlet for testing.
However, I do not have the SRPM from which is was built.
Is it possible to change the scriptlet and/or rebuild the rpm without having the SRPM?
If so, how?
I've tried using Midnight Commander (mc) to open the rpm as a directory structure and edit the contents, but even with 444 permissions, it won't let me save any changes.
I have apache with php 5.4 installed on a Windows 7 64bit machine. When I restart Apache I get the following:
PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library
'c:/PHP54/ext\\php_ldap.dll' - %1 is not a valid Win32 application
The file is present but LDAP doesn't work, any idea what I am doing wrong? php.ini has the following settings
[ldap]
; Sets the maximum number of open links or -1 for unlimited.
ldap.max_links = -1
;extension=php_interbase.dll
extension=php_ldap.dll
extension=php_mbstring.dll
My screen only comes on when my screen is half way up and it sometime turns off or turns white I think I need to connect a loose wire from the screen but how do I open the laptop to reconnect the screens loose wires? I have an infinity screen with no screws on it please help
Per the title, Skype won't open, throws an APPCRASH error code #C0000005.
I have already tried:
Checking the "compatibility" setting
Removing the appdata/roaming/skype folder (it doesn't exist anyway)
Installing versions 5.3.113, 5.3.116, 5.3.120
Checking audio and video drivers for most recent updates
Uninstalling with "advanced" registry checking using Revo Uninstaller
Anyone got some gems of experience to throw my way?
(Unfortunately, it's someone else's computer, and they don't know the last thing they did before it stopped working...)
I am using http://www.pnotepad.org/ (i wouldnt mind switching to something else if it lightweight and has most/all features i like which i'll check on a app by app basis)
When i create a new tab/file and save it unless i write .txt i get a file with no extention. Which makes it hard to open since i cant double click it (i dont think i can tell win7 to set a default app for files with no extension)
How do i make pnotepad save with a .txt when non are specified?
I have a few hundred family images and they were all sent to us with borders that I would like to remove. Thankfully the borders are all the same size of 20 pixels and they are all .jpg so this will probably make things easier but im looking for a way to "batch process" all of them quickly so I dont need to open photoshop for each image and do it individually. Command line is preferred, the only big problem is they are mostly different sizes.
Here is an example
I would like to be able to open a new Chrome window from LaunchBar, which means I have to express the action as an AppleScript or as a shell script / executable program. I tried automator, but it doesn't really work.
So - is it possible? I tried using applescript but things like "make new window at front" don't work...

Can anyone recommend a linux command line tool to monitor the number of bytes transferred between the local server and a specified IP address/port.
The equivalent tcpdump command would be:
tcpdump -s 0 -i any -w mycapture.trc port 80 host google.com
which outputs :
46 packets captured
131 packets received by filter
0 packets dropped by kernel
I'd like something similar that outputs:
54 bytes out, 176 bytes in
I'd like it to work on RHEL and be free/open-source. It would be good if there was an existing tool which I was just missing too!
my machine is a Dell Studio XPS 9100 with 8GB of RAM installed. When I open the BIOS setup and enter the System Info, it shows that my machine got 8GB of RAM installed but only 6GB is available (yes this is from the BIOS only). In Windows 7 (64bit Pro) it shows only 6GB of RAM are available. But if I run CPU-Z then it can detect all 8GB RAM. The machine came pre-configured and I have never opened the case before.
Hello all,
I have a powerpoint presentation on my website saved as htm file, an I am tring to open it not in my browser but in powerpoint on click.
Is there a possible way to do this ?
I currently open Display settings, have to click 2nd monitor, check "extend desktop" & "use as primary", apply, then move 1 to the right 2 (fortunately the image only, not the monitor itself) - but that's too much clicking, there must be tools to make this a one-click operation...
