  I would like to create an NSDictionary (or something similar) that has two keys per value. It will be for English/Spanish word look-up, where: each value is an array containing all the conjugated verbs in English AND Spanish. each (two) keys contains both an English infinitive (e.g. "to be", "to go") and a Spanish infinitive This way, I can look a word up regardless of language based on the values having two keys per value. Here's an example: keys: "to want" or "querer" values: ["want", "want", "wants", "want", "want", "quiero", "quieres", "quiere", "queremos", "quieren"]

  How can I point at the object of a ExtJS Grid and manually set the height (in pixels)? • Can someone please explain to me the basic function of Intents in the Android OS?

  I'm new to programming applications for the Android OS. As far as general architecture of the OS goes, I understand that processes are implemented as Linux processes and that each one is sandboxed. However, I'm utterly confused on the IPCs and syscalls (if any) used. I know that the IBinder is a form of this; parcels are sent back and forth between processes and Bundles are array forms of parcels (?). But even that is still unfamiliar to me. Same with Intents. All in all, I don't understand what kinds of IPCs are implemented and how. Could someone briefly explain to me the specific methods used by user level applications in Android OS to communicate with each other and the OS? I've done kernel programming and played with various IPCs in Linux (Ubuntu and Debian) so it would help immensely if this was all explained in relation to what I'm familiar with... • How to manually manage Core Data relationships when deleting

  I have a Core Data entity, which contains a relationship to another entity. Under certain circumstances, I need to delete the managed objects in the relationship, and at other times no action needs to be taken. I have the Delete Rule on the entity is No Action because of this manual management. The problem I have is, where is the best place to enforce these rules? I cannot see any suitable messages to override on NSManagedObject (something that might notify the object it has been deleted and should clear up its relationships). I would rather not do it higher up in the application logic, because the entity objects can get deleted from array controllers and at different points in the applications, making it necessary to stuff relationship update code at all those levels.

  I am running following PHP code to interact with a MS Access database. $odbc_con = new COM("ADODB.Connection"); $constr = "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=" . $db_path . ";"; $odbc_con -> open($constr); $rs_select = $odbc_con -> execute ("SELECT * FROM Main"); Using ($rs_select - RecordCount) gives -1 though the query is returning non-zero records. (a) What can be the reason? (b) Is there any way out? I have also tried using count($rs_select -> GetRows()). This satisfies the need but looks inefficient as it will involve copying of all the records into an array first.

• Mysql advanced SELECT, or multiple SELECTS? Movies keywords

  I have a mysql database with movies as follows: MOVIES(id,title) KEYWORDS_TABLE(id,key_id) [id is referenced to movies.id, key_id is refernced to keywords.id] KEYWORDS(id,keyword) //this doesn't matter on my example.. Basically i have movies with their titles and plot keywords for each one, i want to select all movies that have the same keywords with with a given movie id. I tried something like: SELECT key_id FROM keywords_table WHERE id=9 doing that in php and storing all the IDs in an array $key_id.. then i build another select that looks like: SELECT movies.title FROM movies,keywords_table WHERE keywords_table.key_id=$key_id[1] OR keywords_table.key_id=$key_id[2] OR ......... OR keywords_table.key_id=$key_id[n] This kinda works but it takes too much time as we talk about a database with thousands of thousands of records. So, any suggestions?? thanks!

• Flex: Rendering a bound TileList - when does it finish rendering?

  Hi, I have an mx:TileList which is bound to an ArrayCollection. I have some code that displays a "Loading..." message before modifying the ArracyCollection and some code after that hides the loading message. For small data sets, it works fine. However, I noticed with an array size of about 50~ and larger, flex will hide my loading message before the TileList is finished rendering the new data and I'm left with a blank screen for an odd second. Is there an event I can listen to that is called after the TileList is finished re-rendering? Code looks something like this: loading_message.visible = true; for each (var x:Object in new_data) { tile_list_data.append(x); // bound to my_tile_list component } my_tile_list.validateNow(); loading_message.visible = false; In this example, loading_message appear, disappear, and then the flex app will lag before finally revealing the updated TileList. Any ideas? Thanks!

When I call a pdo query connection within a function and the connection is included outside the function, the connection becomes undefined. Anyone know what I am doing wrong here? • getting java.lang.OutOfMemoryError exception while running a Midlet (using netbeans)

  I am writing a Midlet(using Netbeans) which reads a file containing exactly 2400 lines (each line being 32 characters long) and (extract a part of each line) puts them in an array. I am doing the same for 11 such files( all files have exactly 2400 lines).The Midlet runs fine for reading 6 files and putting them in 6 arrays. However, the Midlet stops while doing it for the 7th file throwing the following exception: TRACE: , startApp threw an Exception java.lang.OutOfMemoryError (stack trace incomplete) java.lang.OutOfMemoryError (stack trace incomplete) I have tried the modifying the netbeans.conf file to increase the heap memory ( as suggested by many forums and blogs) but nothing works for me. Here are the parameters that i had modified in the netbeans.conf file: -J-Xss2m -J-Xms1024m -J-Xmx1024m -J-XX:PermSize=1024m -J-XX:MaxPermSize=1536m -J-XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -J-XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled -J-XX:+CMSPermGenSweepingEnabled Can anyone please help me to get me out of this ! • Using unmanaged code, how can I find a type that has a given custom attribute assigned to it?

  I had thought I could enumerate the types using IMetaDataImport.EnumTypeDefs and for each of the tokens returned, call IMetaDataImport.EnumCustomAttributes. This works, in so much as I get an array of mdCustomAttribute tokens. Using these tokens I can get a metadata token representing the Type of the returned custom attribute, by calling IMetaDataImport.GetCustomAttributeProps. Comparing my results against ILDASM, I can see that this matches the "CustomAttribute Type" that ILDASM reports. However, I cannot work out how to determine the "CustomAttributeName" that ILDASM reports. This is what I really want! While I would be interested in knowing how to get the CustomAttributeName, I would settle for an alternate approach to solving the problem.

• Handling missing/incomplete data in R

  As you would expect from a DSL aimed at data analysts, R handles missing/incomplete data very well, for instance: Many R functions have an 'na.rm' flag that you can set to 'T' to remove the NAs, but if you want to deal with this before the function call, then: to replace each 'NA' w/ 0: ifelse(is.na(vx), 0, vx) to remove each 'NA': vx = vx[!is.na(a)] to remove entire each row that contains 'NA' from a data frame: dfx = dfx[complete.cases(dfx),] All of these functions remove 'NA' or rows with an 'NA' in them. Sometimes this isn't quite what you want though--making an 'NA'-excised copy of the data frame might be necessary for the next step in the workflow but in subsequent steps you often want those rows back (e.g., to calculate a column-wise statistic for a column that has missing rows caused by a prior call to 'complete cases' yet that column has no 'NA' values in it). to be as clear as possible about what i'm looking for: python/numpy has a class, 'masked array', with a 'mask' method, which lets you conceal--but not remove--NAs during a function call. Is there an analogous function in R?

• Using jQuery to find keywords in string

  In php, I have used preg_match_all() to find keywords (using the format %keyword%) in a string, which works wonderfully and returns an array of all found keywords. What I would like to do, is do the same thing using jQuery or javascript. I have tried using the filter() function, and it kind of works. But I think I am missing something. How can I find ALL instances of the keyword in a string, using a regex? Here is what I have worked out so far: $("[id^='editableContent-']").filter(function() { alert($(this).html().match(/\%(.*?)\%/)); }); Any suggestions are welcome!

• How to always return a set number of records when using find_related_tags with acts-as-taggable-on

  I'm using the acts-as-taggable-on gem and I need to use find_related_tags on my survey model to get back 3 surveys every time. In the event there aren't always 3 related I need to pick how ever many are related plus some random ones to get to 3. Additionally I have a method I wrote called completed_survey_ids which return an array of survey_ids that shouldn't be used because the user has already completed them. Also there is a rare case that there won't be enough surveys because the user has completed them all so in that event it is okay to return less surveys then requested. I did write a named_scope to handle getting rid of the completed_survey_ids that I think works named_scope :not, lambda { |survey_ids| {:conditions => "id NOT IN (#{survey_ids.join(',')})" } }

• C++ - Opening a file inside a function using fopen. (Noob problem)

  I am using Visual Studio 2005 (C++). I am passing a string into a function as a char array. I want to open the file passed in as a parameter and use it. I know my code works to an extent, because if I hardcode the filename as the first parameter it works perfectly. I do notice if I look at the value as a watch, the value includes the address aside the string literal. I have tried passing in the filename as a pointer, but it then complains about type conversion with __w64. As I said before it works fine with "filename.txt" in place of fileName.   I have two models Category and Point. The associations are defined as: Category hasMany Point Point belongsTo Category I would like, when adding Points to my database, to be able to select the category it belongs to from a <select> box, along with the rest of the form data. Where would i need to set the category list and how could i do it? And how would i produce the select box? I assume it could be done with $form->input('categorieslist',array('type'=>'select')); //categorieslist needs //setting somewhere. • Inserting into a bitstream

  I'm looking for a way to efficiently insert bits into a bitstream and have it 'overflow', padding with 0's. So for example if you had a byte array with 2 bytes: 231 and 109 (11100111 01101101), and did BitInsert(byteArray,4,00) it would insert two bits at bit offset 4 making 11100001 11011011 01000000 (225,219,24). It would be ok even the method only allowed 1 bit insertions e.g. BitInsert(byteArray,4,true) or BitInsert(byteArray,4,false). I have one method of doing it, but it has to walk the stream with a bitmask bit by bit, so I'm wondering if there's a simpler approach... Answers in assembly or a C derivative would be appreciated.

• Running rspec against multiple targets

  I've written an rspec test using Watir against a web application and it's running fine. However, I now want to be able to run this test against the web application running on different domain names. My initial thought was that I'd be able to pass a value to spec at the command line to set a variable within my script, but I can't see any easy method of doing this. So my second thought was that I might need to add an array of domains into my script and have it test all of them - but I don't always want to test every domain, and the domains are constantly changing as we add and remove sites to be tested. What are my options for allowing the choice of targets I want?

  Given the following code $c= new SoapClient('http://www.webservicex.net/CurrencyConvertor.asmx?WSDL'); $usa = "USD"; $eng = "GBP"; doing a __getTypes on the client gives me Array ( [0] => struct ConversionRate { Currency FromCurrency; Currency ToCurrency; } [1] => string Currency [2] => struct ConversionRateResponse { double ConversionRateResult; } ) if i then do $calculation = $c->ConversionRate($usa, $eng); and print calculation i get an error about Catchable fatal error: Object of class stdClass could not be converted to string Is there a specific way i should be printing this out, or i it a bug, from researching / googling many people seem to have a problem but i cant find a suitbale solution, other than downgrading php, which isnt a solution for me as i am doing this as homework and its running off of a college server
