  • Xcode + Perforce: it frequently shows me the spinning wheel for no reason! What can i do?

    While working on an Xcode project i keep getting the spinning wheel while switching files, scrolling, searching, typing, debugging, removing breakpoints, switching back from another app or saving. It also happens before compiling but usually it just happens from time to time for no apparent reason. This is the second time this started happening in a Xcode project and it's driving me nuts. It completely breaks my flow of work to have to wait for the spinning wheel to go away (2-5 seconds). What on earth could i possibly do to ... figure out what's causing the problem? resolve the problem? More details: When any project is small, everything is super-smooth with Xcode and Perforce. Two of my projects eventually had this spinning wheel problem after about 4 weeks of work. It only happened with those two projects so far. They consist of around 1000-1200 files in source control, most of them assets. The problem occurs even if i manually check out the whole project in Perforce. The problem is gone when i copy the project directory and work in the copy which is no longer under source control, or if i create a branch in Perforce and work in the branch (under source control). One of these projects i shared with a colleague, and he had exactly the same issues on his Mac. We eventually switched to Subversion and the spinning-wheel issue immediately went away. Now that i've received an updated copy of the project and simply put it under Perforce as a new project, the problem also went away (so far it did not resurface). It leads me to think that it may be caused by a larger number of file revisions. The server itself (version 2009.1) is on a different (Windows) machine on my LAN, so there's definetely no Internet lag involved. The complete repository is just 1 GB in size spread over a dozen projects or so. I'm sorry if the question seems more like a support inquiry for Perforce. However i'm using the free version of Perforce so i'm not entitled to get support from them. I hope no one minds me asking here. I'm really bummed out by this. I don't want to have to create a new branch for the project each time the spinning wheel problem surfaces.

  • Building My First Computer And Suprise It Isn't Working

    I've had many years of experience working on and around computers, but this was my first foray into building one completely from scratch. So far that foray has been a disaster. My rig is completely assembled, and on its maiden power-up plus many power cycles I noticed three things: There were a few beeps from the BIOS POST upon powering up the first time, but I wasn't paying attention completely to the sequence. However, every time after that there are 0 POST beeps, even after taking off all hardware except the CPU and MB. There was no video being sent to the monitor. I run a HDMI cable from my video card to the monitor. The video card was LOUD. My card is a Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 which is known for not only being a powerhouse, but being pretty quiet. A few times during my power cycles it ran a lot quieter, but most of the time it was just super loud. Can anyone provide help for any of these issues? My MB, CPU, and Video Card are: MB: ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard CPU: i7 920 Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 5870

    Is there an easy way to limit the number of times a view can be accessed by a given IP address per day/week? A simplified version of the technique used by some booksellers to limit the number of pages of a book you can preview? There's only one view that this limit need apply to--i.e. it's not a general limit--and it would be nice if I could just have a variable overlimit in the template context. The solution need not be terribly robust, but limiting by IP address seemed like a better idea than using a cookie. I've looked into the session middleware but it doesn't make any references to tracking IP addresses as far as I can tell. Has anyone encountered this problem?

The page layout gets very nasty and image does not load when the page is opened for first time, but when the same page is opened for the second time and any subsequent times, then it loads perfectly.     I'm seeing a problem with sysbench memory test (the default version that's compiled in). This is on Ubuntu Maverick, sysbench installed via apt-get install sysbench. Running the same thing on Ubuntu @ Rackspace worked just as expected. While the CPU and I/O tests worked fine on EC2 servers, the memory test just runs without doing anything (notice the 0M in the test results). The instance used was the publicly available 'stock' Ubuntu image with no changes to it: ./ec2-run-instances ami-ccf405a5 --instance-type m1.small --region us-east-1 --key mykey Supplying more arguments (such as: --memory-block-size=1K --memory-total-size=102400M) didn't help. What am I doing wrong? The phrases are stored in key-value format. One file per language. Variables: The localization texts are stored as hard code variables in the application's source code. The variables are complex data types and depending on the current language, the appropriate phrase is returned. Background: The application is a Java Servlet and the developers use Eclipse as their primary IDE. Some brief pro and cons: Since Eclipse is use, tracking and finding unused localizations are easier when they are saved as variables, compared to having them in a file. However the application's source code becomes bigger and bloated. What are the pro and cons of having localization text in files versus hard coded varibles in source code? What do you do and why?

    Hi In my app I use a ListView to display data from the database. The data changes sometimes, for example when the user applies new filters or changes the sorting method. I use AsyncTask to get the databsase cursor that points to the new data set because sometimes data needs to be loaded from the net which can take some time.   • Check for unique rows, but ignore one particular column

    I have an XML document, that looks like this: Column A to S with headers, and there are 1922 rows. This is an backup of some SMS, and I want to get rid of duplicates. The problem is, that the Time in the readable_date header has been messed up. There is nothing wrong with the date, but the clock time is wrong, so I have split that column in three, with Year, day and clock. I know I can use a standard filter, but it only looks for unique rows in a single column. What I want to perform, is to make a row check similar to this: F(x)=Check if Column 2A to (infinate) is equal to Column 3A to (infinate), but ignore column(R). IF True, then delete Column 3A to (infinate) Otherwise Check IF column 2A to (infinate) is equal Column 4A to (infinate) and so on. I need to ignore a particular column in a row every time, and need to do this for a complete sheet. And the formula check should apply for every row, when the first one is done checking for duplicates... If anyone else has a better solution, please say so. Anyway, anyone who can help?

    We all know that to select all columns from a table, we can use SELECT * FROM tableA Is there a way to exclude column(s) from a table without specifying all the columns? SELECT * [except columnA] FROM tableA The only way that I know is to manually specify all the columns and exclude the unwanted column.   • What could cause Windows 7 to hang whenever I install something?

    I've had this problem when installing several different programs (iTunes, Adobe Acrobat Reader just to name two). Regardless of what the program is, the install usually gets at least 90% through the process and then just hangs. I don't see anything bad in the event log besides the following (and this didn't occur exactly at the time of install): wuaueng.dll (964) SUS20ClientDataStore: A request to write to the file "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\DataStore.edb" at offset 16252928 (0x0000000000f80000) for 32768 (0x00008000) bytes succeeded, but took an abnormally long time (185 seconds) to be serviced by the OS. This problem is likely due to faulty hardware. Please contact your hardware vendor for further assistance diagnosing the problem. I've run check disk and it passed. I've had some problems with BIOS settings in the past with Windows 7, but I'm not sure whether that could be related. Update... I also see this error in the event log: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error querying for the IVssWriterCallback interface. hr = 0x80070005, Access is denied. . This is often caused by incorrect security settings in either the writer or requestor process. Operation: Gathering Writer Data Context: Writer Class Id: {e8132975-6f93-4464-a53e-1050253ae220} Writer Name: System Writer Writer Instance ID: {33493f01-ac1b-4efb-a378-3053ab03100d} One last wrinkle.... I see "Previous versions" of c:\ which look like they correspond to the time of attempted installation.

  • I think my laptop just died

    I have a Dell 1330M that as of about 15 minutes ago will no longer POST. What happened was I was working, stepped away for a moment, and when I came back it was turned off. I thought that was odd, but turned it on and things seemed fine. About 1/2 hour later it crashed and restarted, but came up fine again. It did this once more. At this point I was starting to get worried, but I hadn't had any problems with the laptop before and every crash was after doing some work in a virtual machine that I don't often use, so I at put the blame there. It didn't feel like it was overheating anywhere and there's no ozone smell of overheated electronics. Then it crashed a final time and now when I turn it on all I see is a bright screen with a bunch of vertical lines (noise). I've tried removing the memory sticks one at a time, but I get the same result with either memory stick in either slot. With no memory at all it stops earlier in the POST process and the screen is completely blank (black, no backlight). As I type this, I hear a double beep from the system about once every 10 minutes. I'm pretty sure the hard drive is fine because it fails during post, before anything off the drive is needed. The power supply seems good because the screen is nice and bright. It's not the RAM because swapping that around made no difference. The leaves motherboard (which I doubt and can replace) and CPU (which just might be changable). Any ideas? Is there any hope for this laptop? I'm rather fond of it and I'd have a hard time replacing it with anything near as nice.

  • How to see the properties of a DOM element as they change in realtime?

    JavaScript code can update the properties/attributes of DOM elements in real time by responding to events and so on. Here is an example. In the table on that page, move your mouse over the cells. Notice how they change color when the mouse is on them, and the color goes away when you move the mouse to another cell. Now, using Firefox or Chrome (but not IE, Opera, etc.), I want to examine the background color, expressed in RGB or hex or whatever, of the cells updated in real time, as the mouse cursor enters and leaves the region and causes the JS to do its thing. The behavior that I observe, currently, is that the Inspect Element functionality of both Firefox and Chrome does not update the value of the properties as they are updated by JavaScript. So, in order to view the latest value of the property, I have to inspect the element again, and it takes a momentary "snapshot" of the values. But since the values only change while I have the mouse on them, I can't take a snapshot of the value I want while my mouse cursor is over the cell, because I have to remove my mouse from the cell to select the "Inspect Element" item in the right-click list! If it is possible to have the values updated in real time using either Firefox or Chrome, or an extension, on any recent version of the software (up to the latest stable), please provide instructions for doing so.

    Hello I am creating an app in win32 that will display the x, y position(In screen coords) of the mouse whereever the mouse is (inside my app client/NC area & outside). I am at the stage where I want to detect when the mouse leaves my application completely.   • What Windows message is fired for mouse-up with modifier keys?

    My WndProc isn't seeing mouse-up notifications when I click with a modifier key (shift or control) pressed. I see them without the modifier key, and I see mouse-down notifications with the modifier keys. I'm using the Windows Forms NativeWindow wrapper to get Windows messages from the WndProc() method. I've tried tracking the notifications I do get, and I the only clue I see is WM_CAPTURECHANGED. I've tried calling SetCapture when I receive the WM_LBUTTONDOWN message, but it doesn't help. Without modifier (skipping paint, timer and NCHITTEST messages): WM_LBUTTONDOWN WM_SETCURSOR WM_MOUSEMOVE WM_SETCURSOR WM_LBUTTONUP With modifier (skipping paint, timer and NCHITTEST messages): WM_KEYDOWN WM_PARENTNOTIFY WM_MOUSEACTIVATE WM_MOUSEACTIVATE WM_SETCURSOR WM_LBUTTONDOWN WM_SETCURSOR (repeats) WM_KEYDOWN (repeats) WM_KEYUP If I hold the mouse button down for a long time, I can usually get a WM_LBUTTONUP notification, but it should be possible to make it more responsive..     I am looking for a small linux tool that would be able to extract text from odt file. It just needs to be human-readable and it can have problems with complicated objects etc. It's almost a duplicate of this question but I need it to be small and have no dependencies on OpenOffice or X server I remember having a 1MB MS-DOS program that could render .doc files quite readibly (with some weird markup getting through from time to time), so i expect it to be possible in the linux world too ;)
