• Is there a .NET BCL class to help with hand-rolled property path binding?

  WPF and Silverlight have a data binding model whereby I can provide a Binding with a Path which comprises a dot-notation of property accessors down from a DataContext to a specific value inside a complex object graph (eg. MyDataContext.RootProperty.SubProperty.Thing.Value) I have a (non-UI) requirement to accept such a path expressed as a simple string, and to use reflection on an object which is (hopefully) of a type which exposes the right property getters and setters in order to read and/or write values to those properties. Before I go off and start writing the parser and reflection code, is there a handy Framework 3.5 BCL class to help with this?

• Echoing a pseudo column value after a COUNT

  Hi Gang... Please don't beat me if this is elementary. I searched and found disjointed stuff relating to pseudo columns. Nothing spot on about what I need. Anyway... I have a table with some rows. Each record has a unique ID, an ID that relates to another entity and finally a comment that relates to that last entity. So, I want to COUNT these rows to basically find what entity has the most comments. Instead of me explaining the query, I'll print it SELECT entity_id, COUNT(*) AS amount FROM comments GROUP BY entity_id ORDER BY amount DESC The query does just what I want, but I want to echo the values from that pseudo column, 'amount' Can it be done, or should I use another method like mysql_num_rows?   What is the pattern (best practice) for such problem -- modifying elements (values) in collection? Conditions: size of the collection is not changed (no element is deleted or added) modification is in-place In C++ it was easy and nice, I just iterated trough a collection and changed the elements. But in C# iterating (using enumerator) is read-only operation (speaking in terms of C++, only const_iterator is available). So, how to do this in C#? Example: having sequence of "1,2,3,4" modification is changing it to "1, 2, 8, 9" but not "1, 2, 3" or "1, 2, 3, 4, 5".

(entity: Spot; id: 0x4b7e580 ; data: { CityToProvince = 0x4b7dbd0 ; Description = "Friend"; Email = "[email protected]"; Age = 21; Name = "Adam"; Phone = "+44175240"; }), How can i filter the array to remove anyone who is over a certain age? or use values in the array to make calculations? Please help i have been stuck for ages on this. Code would be gratefully appreciated.

• BindableAttribute, Combobox, Selectedvalue property - WinForms

  I am deriving from combobox (WinForms) and am providing a new implementation for the Selectedvalue property. It works fine as is, but any change to the selectedvalue property is not updating other controls bound to the same "binding context" to change their values accordingly. I did try adding the BindableAttribute(true) to the property, but still it does nottrigger the change in value to the other linked controls. The control's DataBindings.add(...) is all set up. And other controls are also bound to the same data filed on the same datasource. Any ideas what i am doing wrong.

• How do I use BCP or Sql Server Management Studio to get BLOB data our of Sql Server?

  I'm sorry if this question has been asked already, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I have a table that stores files as BLOBS. The column that holds the file is an image datatype. I would like to be able to extract the binary data out of the column and turn it in to an actual file. I would ideally like to be able to do this with BCP or management studio if possible. I have tried BCP, but for some reason when I try and pull out an office document Word thinks it's corrupt. Here's what I've tried so far (obviously the values have been changed to protect the innocent :): bcp "select document_binary_data from database where id = 12345" queryout "c:\filename.doc" -n -S server -U username -P password This isn't working though? Any thoughts?

• Validating Column Data Stored as CSV Against Another Table

  I wanted to see what some suggested approaches would be to validate a field that is stored as a CSV against a table containing appropriate values. Althought it would be desired, it is NOT an option to split the CSV list into another related table. In the example data below I would be trying to capture the code 99 for widget A. Below is an example data representation. Table: Widgets WidgetName WidgetCodeList A 1, 2, 3 B 1 C 2, 3 D 99 Table: WidgetCodes WidgetCode 1 2 3 An earlier approach was to query the CSV column as rows using various string manipulations and CONNECT_BY_LEVEL however the performance was not acceptible.

  I am new to Scala, and ran across a small hiccup that has been annoying me. Initializing two vars in parallel works great: var (x,y) = (1,2) However I can't find a way to assign new values in parallel: (x,y) = (x+y,y-x) //invalid syntax I end up writing something like this: val xtmp = x+y; y = x-y; x = xtmp I realize writing functional code is one way of avoiding this, but there are certain situations where vars just make more sense. I have two questions: 1) Is there a better way of doing this? Am I missing something? 2) What is the reason for not allowing true parallel assignment?

  I have the following SP: CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_LockReader] AS BEGIN SET NOCOUNT ON; begin try set transaction isolation level serializable begin tran select * from teste commit tran end try begin catch rollback tran set transaction isolation level READ COMMITTED end catch set transaction isolation level READ COMMITTED END The table "test" has many values, so "select * from teste" takes several seconds. I run the sp_LockReader at same time in two diferent query windows and the second one starts showing test table contents without the first one terminates. Shouldn't serializeble level forces the second query to wait? How do i get the described behaviour? Thanks

• Why is this postgres function failing only on one specifc database?

  I'm trying to fix an issue with a legacy database. The quote_literal function is not working for a specific database on an 8.4 install of postgres. Here's my results on a fresh test database: select quote_literal(42); quote_literal --------------- '42' (1 row) And now the same on the target db select quote_literal(42); ERROR: function quote_literal(integer) is not unique LINE 1: select quote_literal(42); ^ HINT: Could not choose a best candidate function. You might need to add explicit type casts. AIUI, the quote_literal(anyvalue) function should handle integer values ok, and this seems to be upheld by the first test. So I figured the quote_literal function must have been overridden in this db but no this doesn't seem to be the case. I could override it with a specific quote_literal(integer) function but I don't see why I should have to. The question is what is could be causing the failure of this function in this specific database whilst not affecting the fresh db?

  Hello, I'm having a problem with a cocoa application that takes the value of a text field, and writes it to a file. The file path is made using stringWithFormat: to combine 2 strings. For some reason it will not create the file and the console says nothing. • Is there any way to do a WER "Request Additional Files" for the windows temp directory?

  My company has had numerous crashes reported to windows error reporting due to what looks like an install problem. The logs for our installs are typically in the windows\temp directory. I would like to include the install log file as a "Request Additional Files" entry, however there doesn't seem to be any way to get to a subdirectory of the list of environmental Variables that are provided. The windows temp directory is not in the list of values that you can work from, so I am stuck. In general, I don't understand how it is possible to get at almost anything of use via the "Request Additional Files". For example, the %programfiles% directory shouldn't contain any useful files, they should be in a subdirectory for your product. What am I missing?

• SQL Server 2008 GUID column is all 0's

  I'm hoping this is a simple goof I did on my end ... I have a table in my database set up like so: column name: widget_guid data type: uniqueidentifier allow nulls: false default value: newid() identity: false row guid: true When records are created (via LINQ to SQL) that the values in this field are formatted as a GUID but contain all 0's My assumption was that when a new record was created, that a guid would be autogenerated for that column, much like an auto-incrementing row id. Is this not true? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

• Error using MVCContrib TestHelper

  While trying to implement the second answer to a previous question, I am receiving an error. I have implemented the methods just as the post shows, and the first three work properly. The fourth one (HomeController_Delete_Action_Handler_Should_Redirect_If_Model_Successfully_Delete) gives this error: Could not find a parameter named 'controller' in the result's Values collection. If I change the code to: actual .AssertActionRedirect() .ToAction("Index"); it works properly, but I don't like the "magic string" in there and prefer to use the lambda method that the other poster used. My controller method looks like this: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Delete(State model) { try { if( model == null ) { return View( model ); } _stateService.Delete( model ); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } catch { return View( model ); } } What am I doing wrong?

• Strange problem when converting RGB to HSV

  Hi, I made a small RGB to HSV converter algorithm with C. It seems to work pretty well, but there is one strange problem: If I first convert i.e. a 800x600 picture into HSV map and then back to RGB map without doing any changes in the values, I get some pixels that are convertet incorrectly. Then if I try to convert those misbehaving single pixels alone to and back, they're converted correctly. Any idea what could be the problem? I'm using Daniel Karlings PNGLite to open that PNG file. • Syntax for "RETURNING" clause in Mysql PDO

  I'm trying to add a record, and at the same time return the id of that record added. I read it's possible to do it with a RETURNING clause. $stmt->prepare("INSERT INTO tablename (field1, field2) VALUES (:value1, :value2) RETURNING id"); but the insertion fails when I add RETURNING. There is an auto-incremented field called id in the table being added to. Can someone see anything wrong with my syntax? or maybe PDO does not support RETURNING?

  Hi, I am using a dataset on the server, in this dataset I have a datatable that calls a stored procedure and returns column names from three tables. I call this stored procedure using a web service. I manage to show all the column names in my combobox but when I want to click a button and insert selected column name into a richtextbox I get System.Data.DataRowView in the textbox instead.   Hi guys, I'm using a time_t variable in C (openMP enviroment) to keep cpu execution time...I define a float value sum_tot_time to sum time for all cpu's...I mean sum_tot_time is the sum of cpu's time_t values. The problem is that printing the value sum_tot_time it appear as an integer or long, by the way without its decimal part!   How can I change default values of "source folders on build path" and "default output folder" in "Dynamic Web Project" wizard in Eclipse, probably in the way as we do for "Java Project" in Windows Preferences Java Build Path The purpose is: each time I create new Dynamic Web Project, the wizard should show default source and output folders of my choice. Since this option is available for Java project so I believe there should be something similar for Web Projects too but I am unable to find it. BTW I tried changing defaults of Java project but it does not effect dynamic web projects.

I need to get the best 8 minute window where some parameters are maximum. say a value x, which is dynamic for every second. if my activity runs for one hr,i get 3600 values for x. I need to find the best continuous 8 minute time interval where x value was the highest among all the others. if i capture say from 0th minute to 8th minute, there may be another time frame like 0.4 to 8.4 where it was maximum. the granularity is one second. every second we need to consider. basically the peak 8 minute window where x was maximum. please help me with the design
