  What is ULS in SharePoint 2010? ULS stands for Unified Logging Service which captures and writes Exceptions/Logs in Log File(A Plain Text File with .log extension). SharePoint logs Each and every exceptions with ULS. SharePoint Administrators should know ULS and it's very useful when anything goes wrong. but when you ask any SharePoint 2007 Administrator to check log file then most of them will Kill you. Because read and understand the log file is not so easy. Imagine open a plain text file of 20 MB in NotePad and go thru line by line. Now Microsoft developed a tool "ULS Viewer" to view those Log files in easily readable format. This tools also helps to filter events based on exception priority. You can read on this blog to know in details about ULS Viewer . Where to get ULS Viewer? ULS Viewer is developed by Microsoft and available to download for free. Now Open ULS Viewer -> File -> Open From -> ULS -> Select First Option to open the default ULS Log. It's Uls RealTime and will show all log entries in readable table format. Right Click on a row and select "Filter By This Item". Select "Event ID" and enter value "700" that we used in the application. Click Ok and now you'll see the Exceptions/Logs which logged by our application.   If you want to see High Priority Messages only then Click Icons except Red Cross Icon on the Toolbar. The tooltip will tell what's the icons used for.

• WinMo&rsquo;s Demise: Notifying Next of &ldquo;Kin&rdquo;

  This past Monday, April 12th, Visual Studio 2010 was launched.  And on that same day, Microsoft also launched a new line of  mobile phone handsets, called Kin.  The two product launches are actually connected, but only by what they do not have in common, and what they commonly lack. On the former point: VS 2010 had released to manufacturing a couple weeks prior to its launch.  The Kin phones, meanwhile are not yet available.  We don’t even know what they will cost.  (And I think cost will be a major factor in Kin’s success…I told ChannelWeb’s Yara Souza so in this article). What do the two products both lack? Simple: Windows Mobile 6.x. For example, Kin seems to be based on the same platform as Windows Phone 7 (albeit a subset).  And VS 2010 does not support .NET Compact Framework development, which means no .NET development support for WinMo 6.x and earlier. So I guess April 12th marks Windows Phone “clean slate day.”  If you want to develop for the old phone platform, you will need to use the old version of Visual Studio (i.e. 2008).  Luckily VS 2010 and 2008 can be installed side-by-side.  But I doubt that’s much consolation to developers who still target WinMo 6.5 and earlier. Remember, WinMo isn’t just about the phone.  There are all sorts of non-telephony mobile devices, including ruggedized Pocket PC-style instruments, bar code readers and shop-floor-deployed units that don’t run Windows Phone 7 and couldn’t, even if they wanted to. Where will developers in these markets go?  I would guess some will stick with WinMo 6.x and earlier, until Windows Phone 7 can handle their workloads, assuming that does indeed happen.  Others will likely go to Google’s Android platform. For OEMs and developers who need a customizable mobile software stack, Android is turning out to be out-WinMo-ing WinMo.  As I wrote in this post, Google took Microsoft’s model (minus the licensing fees) and combined it with a modern SmartPhone feature set (rather than a late 90s/early oughts PDA paradigm), to great success.  You might say Google embraced and extended. You might also say Microsoft shunned and withdrew.

Now you can create a new Android project: Having set up the Android SDK, you're able to select your Android platform in the IDE: The project structure created by the above templates is nice and easy to understand: Build the project and you have your APK file and everything else generated in the Files window: Nice features are included, such as code completion in Android XML files: Several other features are included, as described here, such as "Export Signed Android Package", as well as deployment to the Android emulator. Now that I have everything set up (took literally about 10 minutes from start to finish), I'm going to be experimenting a bit with Android development via NetBeans IDE.

• Is it ok to replace optimized code with readable code?

  Sometimes you run into a situation where you have to extend/improve an existing code. You see that the old code is very lean, but it's also difficult to extend, and takes time to read. Is it a good idea to replace it with modern code? Some time ago I liked the lean approach, but now, it seems to me that it's better to sacrifice a lot of optimizations in favor of higher abstractions, better interfaces and more readable, extendable code. The compilers seem to be getting better as well, so things like struct abc = {} are silently turned into memsets, shared_ptrs are pretty much producing the same code as raw pointer twiddling, templates are working super good because they produce super lean code, and so on. But still, sometimes you see stack based arrays and old C functions with some obscure logic, and usually they are not on the critical path. Is it good idea to change such code if you have to touch a small piece of it either way?

  Is there somewhere I can find a prewritten WebApp (with database) for a used car dealer? The application would need to support the following: Easy setup in a low cost Shared or Cloud Host Give potential customers easy way to browse current inventory (cars on lot) with suggested prices Give dealership easy way to login and update inventory (cars on lot) and suggested prices Give potential customers easy way to send the dealership an inquiry about a specific vehicle on the lot with CAPTCHA style SPAM protection I prefer ASP.NET MVC and Microsoft SQL Server, but I might consider other technologies such as WebForms and LightSwitch (HTML5). I am reasonably comfortable with MVC and WebForms, but I really don't want to waste a bunch of time writing an application that might already exist. I did find a few interesting templates via Bing that seem to control CSS and Layout, but I'm not sure if they contain any business logic or if they would integrate well into an MVC App.

  I've used MS office for many years now. Especially powerpoint. One of the strengths is that it defines and separates the concepts of template and theme. A theme can be saved and contains fonts, colours, and a set of images that can be reused every time you create a new presentation. This ensures that everyone in your organization uses exactly the same colours and fonts all the time. Now I know that you can download templates for LibreOffice, but I have not seen anything similar to the theme concept. The file extensions used in MS office are the following for the two concepts mentioned: Example Powerpoint template file name: mytemplate.potx Example Powerpoint theme file name: mytheme.thmx Now back to my question: Do these concepts and their separation exist in LibreOffice or OpenOffice? If so, how do I create them?

• Ops Center 12.1.4 Released

  Ops Center version 12.1.4.0.0, an update for 12c, has just been released. There are a few new features. The biggest one is support for multiple Automated Installer install services, which means that you can provision any version of Oracle Solaris 11, rather than just one. We've also added support for multi-file VM templates, and enhanced the network configuration support for vServers. You can take a look at the What's New document for more information about the new features. If you're already using Ops Center, you can download the 12.1.4 upgrade through the UI, or get it from the Oracle Tech Network or from e-delivery. The Upgrade chapter in the Admin Guide explains how to perform the upgrade.

  The RSSBus ADO.NET providers are easy-to-use, standards based controls that can be used from any platform or development technology that supports Microsoft .NET, including Sybase PowerBuilder. In this article we show how to use the RSSBus ADO.NET Provider for QuickBooks in PowerBuilder. A similar approach can be used from PowerBuilder with other RSSBus ADO.NET Data Providers to access data from Salesforce, SharePoint, Dynamics CRM, Google, OData, etc. In this article we will show how to create a basic PowerBuilder application that performs CRUD operations using the RSSBus ADO.NET Provider for QuickBooks. Step 1: Open PowerBuilder and create a new WPF Window Application solution. Step 2: Add all the Visual Controls needed for the connection properties. Step 3: Add the DataGrid control from the .NET controls. Step 4:Configure the columns of the DataGrid control as shown below.
