• No contact list in MSN

  Since today I can't see my contact list en empathy IM, using the MSN protocol. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, erasing all config files from my computer (using ubuntu tweak and erasing the config files from my /home folder), but nothing solve the problem Time ago people have the same problem, they're solved it changing a line in a script, but that bug was solved in latest versions of empathy. I've tried to change that script, using other lines. /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/papyon/service/description/SingleSignOn/RequestMultipleSecurityTokens.py I've changed the line CONTACTS = ("contacts.msn.com", "MBI") by the older one: CONTACTS = ("contacts.msn.com","?fs=1&id=24000&kv=7&rn=93S9SWWw&tw=0&ver=2.1.6000.1") But this no fix the bug In advanced options I have this (in empathy account options): Server: messenger.hotmail.com Port: 1863 How can I solve this? • How do I point a new domain to start on a page that's not index.html on separate hosting?

  I'm using a service (CMS/Host) called SquareSpace to host my site, and today I'm registering the domain for it. Basically, how do I make it so when somebody types www.tedxoxford.com it points at http://www.tedxoxford.com/landing (currently http://tedxoxford.squarespace.com/landing) instead of the default index? Is this possible? Squarespace is quite a restricted CMS and means that your logos etc all point to the index so I don't want people ending up on my landing/splash page every time they want the home page, only on the first time they type in the URL. A dirty hack would be to check the refferer and redirect anyone hitting the index to the landing page, but that's a lot of loading overhead I'd rather avoid...

• Display folder sizes in file manager

  In nautilus (or nemo) file manager, the "Size" column shows the filesize for files and the number of items contained in a folder for subdirectories: Number of items is not that important for me, it would be more useful if I could make this column show the total size contained under the directory. I had an extension on windows called foldersize which shows what I mean: I think it involved a service which ran in the background monitoring filesystem modifications in order to make sure the column was kept up to date. I am interested to know if there is any similar extension to nautilus, I would also be open to switching to another file manager to get this functionality. I am aware of the Disk Usage Analyser in Ubuntu, but what I'm looking for is a solution with file manager integration.

• Ubuntu One Sync for multiple folders, not just the Ubuntu One folder.

  Hello, I may have misunderstood Ubuntu One as a service, but this is how I had pictured it. At home, I tagged a few folders with the "Sync to Ubuntu One" tick and it started uploading. Now back at work, on Win7, I installed Ubuntu One and thought I was going to be able to tick which of the backed-up folders I could download/sync to this machine. From what I gather after a little research is that whatever I would like to synchronize would need to be in the Ubuntu One folder? There is no way to do this outside of that? Thanks for confirming, or informing me whether this will be introduced in the future as an option? Thank you very much for your help on this! bisi

  The download of Oracle 12c database became available on June 25, 2013.  There are some big new features in 12c database and WebLogic Server will take advantage of them. Immediately, we will support using 12c database and drivers with WLS 10.3.6 and 12.1.1.  When the next version of WLS ships, additional functionality will be supported (those rows in the table below with all "No" values will get a "Yes).  The following table maps the Oracle 12c Database features supported with various combinations of currently available WLS releases, 11g and 12c Drivers, and 11g and 12c Databases. I plan to write some related blog articles not to duplicate existing product documentation but to introduce the features, provide some examples, and tie together some information to make it easier to understand. How do you get started with 12c?  The easiest way is to point your data source at a 12c database.  The only change on the WLS side is to update the URL in your data source (assuming that you are not just upgrading your database).  You can continue to use the 11.2.0.3 driver jar files that shipped with WLS 10.3.6 or 12.1.1.  You shouldn't see any changes in your application.  You can take advantage of enhancements on the database side that don't affect the mid-tier.  On the WLS side, you can take advantage of using Global Data Service or connecting to a tenant in a multi-tenant database transparently. If you want to use the 12c client jar files, it's a bit of work because they aren't shipped with WLS and you can't just drop in ojdbc6.jar as in the old days.  You need to use a matched set of jar files and they need to come before existing jar files in the CLASSPATH.  The MOS article is written from the standpoint that you need to get the jar files directly - download almost 1G and install over 600M footprint to get 15 jar files.  Assuming that you have the database installed and you can get access to the installation (or ask the DBA), you need to copy the 15 jar files to each machine with a WLS installation and get them in your CLASSPATH.  You can play with setting the PRE_CLASSPATH but the more practical approach may be to just update WL_HOME/common/bin/commEnv.sh directly.  There's a change in the transaction completion behavior (read the MOS) so if you think you might run into that, you will want to set -Doracle.jdbc.autoCommitSpecCompliant=false.  Also if you are running with Active GridLink, you must set -Doracle.ucp.PreWLS1212Compatible=true (how's that for telling you that this is fixed in WLS 12.1.2).  Once you get the configuration out of the way, you can start using the new ojdbc7.jar in place of the ojdbc6.jar to get the new JDBC 4.1 API's.  You can also start using Application Continuity.  This feature is also known as JDBC Replay because when a connection fails you get a new one with all JDBC operations up to the failure point automatically replayed.  As you might expect, there are some limitations but it's an interesting feature.  Obviously I'm going to focus on the 12c database features that we can leverage in WLS data source.  You will need to read other sources or the product documentation to get all of the new features.

  I am involved into development a rich UI project: desktop windows application. Application uses asynchronous invocations and in its turn it should be ready to process external messages (events). The problem is clear: at first time it was built as a simple prototype and it was not stress tested and all was fine. Then application was grown: the number of calls to server and number of events from server are high and performance is low. What is more users noticed that sometimes performance is extremal low. Asynchronous invocations based on thread pool (BeginInvoke, EndInvoke), external events are going from WCF service (.NET 3.5). My goal is synchronization of all tasks and putting priorities to every executions in desktop application. My question is: is there any practice how to reach my goal: patterns, task priority list, others? What should I do at first, second and next times? Thanks

• REST or Non-REST on Internal Services

  I'm curious if others have chosen to implement some services internally at their companies as non-REST (SOAP, Thrift, Proto Buffers, etc...) as a way to auto-generate client libraries/wrappers? I'm on a two year project. I will be writing maybe 40 services over that period with my team. 10% of those services definitely make sense as REST services, but the other 90% feel more like they could be done in REST or RPC style. Of these 90%, 100% will be .NET talking to .NET. When I think about all the effort to have my devs develop client "wrappers" for REST services I cringe. WADL or RSDL don't seem to have enough mindshare. Thoughts? Any good discussions of this "internal service" issue online? If you have struggled with this what general rules for determining REST or non-REST have you used?

If we try to deserialize a new Enum value in an older version of a specific service, it may not work.

• Enabling SSL in MySQL

  I'm running Ubuntu Server 12.04, and I want to enable SSL connections to MySQL. I've generated the following keys/certs files with OpenSSL: ca-cert.pem server-cert.pem server-key.pem I stored these at /etc/mysql, then added added the following lines to /etc/mysql/my.cnf: ssl-ca=/etc/mysql/ca-cert.pem ssl-cert=/etc/mysql/server-cert.pem ssl-key=/etc/mysql/server-key.pem Next, I restarted the server with sudo service restart mysql. However, this doesn't seem to enable SSL. Within a mysql session: mysql> show variables like '%ssl%'; +---------------+----------------------------+ | Variable_name | Value | +---------------+----------------------------+ | have_openssl | DISABLED | | have_ssl | DISABLED | | ssl_ca | /etc/mysql/ca-cert.pem | | ssl_capath | | | ssl_cert | /etc/mysql/server-cert.pem | | ssl_cipher | | | ssl_key | /etc/mysql/server-key.pem | +---------------+----------------------------+ Any ideas what I'm missing? • Downloading specific video renditions in WebCenter Content

  I recently had a question come up on one of my previous blog articles about downloading a specific video rendition.  When accessing image renditions, you simply need to pass in the 'Rendition=<rendition name>' parameter on the GET_FILE service and it will be returned.  But when you try that with videos, you get the error message, "Unable to download '<Content ID>'. • SOA Suite 11g Dynamic Payload Testing with soapUI Free Edition

  Overview Many web service developers use soapUI for various tests like: smoke test, unit test, and load testing because you can get a free edition that is fairly robust. However, if you need to venture into more complex testing that requires a dynamic payload, then the free edition doesn't necessarily make it easy. This feature does exist in soapUI, but for obvious reasons it is in the Pro version. In this blog I will show you how to use soapUI free edition for dynamic payloads in a simplified example. Hopefully this will open the doors for you to expand into more complex scenarios. The following assumes that you have a working knowledge of soapUI and will not go into concepts like setting up a project etc. For the basics, please review the documentation for soapUI: http://www.soapui.org/Getting-Started/. Additionally, we will be using asynchronous web services and you can review the setup for this in my blog: SOA Suite 11g Asynchronous Testing with soapUI. Features in soapUI Free Edition Relating to this Topic The soapUI test tool provides a very feature rich environment that can do many things provided you are willing to go beyond point and click. For this example, we will be leveraging just a couple features for our dynamic payload example: Test Case Properties Scripting with Groovy Basically, we will be using a property as a global variable and we will manipulate that property using a Groovy script. Setting Up Our Property Properties are available throughout soapUI and here is a snippet from the soapUI website defining the locations: Projects : for handling Project scope values, for example a subscription ID TestSuite : for handling TestSuite scoped values, can be seen as "arguments" to a TestSuite TestCases : for handling TestCase scoped values, can be seen as "arguments" to a TestCase Properties TestStep : for providing local values/state within a TestCase Local TestStep properties : several TestStep types maintain their own list of properties specific to their functionality : DataSource, DataSink, Run TestCase MockServices : for handling MockService scoped values/arguments MockResponses : for handling MockResponse scoped values Global Properties : for handling Global properties, optionally from an external source For our example, we will be defining a custom property in a TestCase called SimpleAsyncPayload. The property can be created in either the Custom Properties tab located at the bottom of the Navigator panel when the TestCase is selected in the Navigator or the Properties label in the TestCase editor: Navigator Panel TestCase Editor You will notice that I set a value of “0” for the custom property. For this simplified example, we will need to retrieve that value and manipulate it prior to making the web service request invocation. In order to accomplish this, we will need to get Groovy ;) Let's Get Groovy We will now add a new Groovy Script step to the TestCase called Manipulate Payload: TestCase Editor > Append Step > Groovy Script Once we have added the Groovy Script step to our TestCase, we can open the Groovy Script editor to add the code to: Get the current value of the property we created called SimpleAsyncPayload. Convert the value of the property to an integer. Increment the value. Store the incremented value back into the TestCase property called SimpleAsyncPayload. The script should look something like the following: Groovy Script Editor – Manipulate Payload At this point we can test the script to see if it is working by simply running the TestCase (left-click on the green triangle in the upper left-hand corner of the TestCase editor). To verify if it ran correctly, we can look at the value of the SimpleAsyncPayload property which should now be 1: TestCase Editor – Run Results All that is left to complete the TestCase is to append another step of type Test Request. The information required to append the request is a name and an operation to invoke. In this example we will use the default name and select the SimpleAsyncBPELProcessBingd -> process as the operation (any other information being requested, simply use the defaults unless you are calling an asynchronous operation then do not add any assertions). We are now in familiar ground with the Test Request editor. Depending upon the type of operation you are invoking (synchronous or asynchronous), please update the request with the necessary information (e.g., callback information for asynchronous operations). We will now tweak the Test Request payload to retrieve the value of the SimpleAsyncPayload property. The soapUI editor makes this very simple: right-click in the payload and navigate to the property (e.g., right-click > Get Data.. > TestCase: [Groovy TestCase] > Property [SimpleAsyncPayload]): Test Request Editor – Insert Property Value Your payload should now look something like the following: Test Request Editor – Inserted Property Value Just like before, we are now ready to run the TestCase. If everything goes as expected we should see a response like the following: Message Viewer – Results of TestCase Run We are now setup to be able to run a stress test where the payload will change for each request.
