• The difference between the 'Local System' account and the 'Network Service' account?

  I have written a Windows service that spawns a separate process. This process creates a COM object. If the service runs under the 'Local System' account everything works fine, but if the service runs under the 'Network Service' account, the external process starts up but it fails to create the COM object. The error returned from the COM object creation is not a standard COM error (I think it's specific to the COM object being created). So, how do I determine how the two accounts, 'Local System' and 'Network Service' differ? These built-in accounts seem very mysterious and nobody seems to know much about them.

  Let's have an example: A grails project, myproj, is deployed in Tomcat 6. It can be accessed anywhere thru this link: http://www.mycompany.com/myproj. Let's say we purchase another domain, http://newcompany.com, and we would like to point it to http://www.mycompany.com/myproj/url. If I go to http://newcompany.com/12345, it should be the same as doing http://www.mycompany.com/myproj/url/12345. Can anyone tell me if this is possible? • Can an URL shortener pass parameters?

  Hi, I use bit.ly to shorten my urls. My problem - paramters are not passed. Let me explain I use http://bit.ly/MYiPhoneApps which redirects (let's say) to http://iphone.pp-p.net/default.aspx Now when I try http://bit.ly/MYiPhoneApps?param=xx this param is not added to the resulting url. I know I could create an extra "short url" including a paramter - so http://bit.ly/WithParam would result in http://www.mysite.com/somepath/apage.aspx?Par1=yy and so forth. But what I want is to have a short URL directing to a page - and then I want to add a parameter to this shortened url - which shoul (of course) land at my page. Is this a shortcome of bit.ly (and others are maybe able to do it) - or does "parameter forwarding" not work with 301 redirections? Manfred

It seemed like there wasn't an easy way to do that.] I have a application at application.com. A customer has app.customer.com pointed at my site on Heroku, and I have everything set up so that it renders a specific version of app correctly. The issue is that I want a user at app.customer.com to be able to login. I believe authlogic is now setting the cookie on application.com, so while it verifies the credentials, no session on customer.com is ever created.

• Google Social Graph API, working as intended?

  Hey, I'm experiencing some problems with Google's social graph API. It seems that for some parameters passed to 'otherme' nothing is returned. I'll use Robert Scoble's profiles as an example (as he's a guy sure to be everywhere on the web). If I query: http://socialgraph.apis.google.com/otherme?q=http://twitter.com/scobleizer&pretty=1 I get results, as expected. However, if I query: http://socialgraph.apis.google.com/otherme?q=http://delicious.com/scobleizer&pretty=1 Nothing is returned, even though 'http://delicious.com/scobleizer' is listed in the previous results... • Facebook application redirect on different URL's

  Hi, I have made a facebook application for generating access_token. It's working fine except one problem with it's redirect url. Have set redirect Url : www.mysite.com/myfolder/ in my FB application. So it will work for all folders/files inside www.mysite.com/myfolder/ but I am having problem I want to use these urls for redirect: http://www.mysite.com/myfolder/index.php?mod=config&do=useradd http://www.mysite.com/myfolder/index.php?mod=config&do=useredit and it always redirecting me on: http://www.mysite.com/myfolder/index.php?mod=config which is wrong .   Hello. I use mod_rewrite/.htaccess for pretty URLs. I'm using this condition/rule to eliminate trailing slashes (or rather: rewrite to the non-trailing-slash-URL, by a 301 redirect; I'm doing this to avoid duplicate content and because I like URLs with no trailing slashes better): RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^\.localhost$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.+)/$ http://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L] Working well so far. Only drawback: it also forwards "multiple-trailing-slash"-URLs to non-trailing-slash-URLs. Example: http://example.tld/foo/bar////// forwards to http://example.tld/foo/bar while I only want http://example.tld/foo/bar/ to forward to http://example.tld/foo/bar. So, is it possible to only eliminate trailing slashes if it's actually just one trailing slash? Sorry if this is a somewhat annoying or weird question! Thanks.

  I'm trying to set up Drupal multisite in a shared hosting environment. The main site's location looks like http://www.mysite.com/foo/bar/ and my goal is to create another site using the same database at http://www.mysite.com/foo/bar/drupal2. I've created a new folder in the sites directory called www.mysite.com.foo.bar.drupal2 and added the default.settings.php and settings.php files, configured correctly for the environment, and I've set up a symlink from the main site's root to the subdirectory, with this command: ln -s . drupal2 The problem is that when I go to http://www.mysite.com/foo/bar/drupal2, I just get the main site at http://www.mysite.com without triggering the installer. What do I need to change to get the multisite working?

• How to suppress javascript errors for sites I'm not developing?

  I like to keep javascript debugging enabled in my browser so when I'm developing my own code I can instantly see when I've made an error. Of course this means I see errors on apple.com, microsoft.com, stackoverflow.com, cnn.com, facebook.com. Its quite fun sometimes to see just how much awful code there is out there being run by major sites but sometimes it gets really annoyed. I've wondered for YEARS how to change this but never really got around to it. Its particularly annoying today and I'd really like to know of any solutions. The only solution I have is : use a different browser for everyday browsing. I'm hopin theres some quick and easy plugin someone can direct me to where I can toggle it on and off based upon the domain i'm on. Edit: I generally use IE7 for everyday browsing

  Hi, heres the problem explanation: Im on the domain https://www.example.com - theres an Order-Form with the Action https://www.example-otherdomain.com with an other SSL Certificate. On some conditions i set the form action to https://www.example.com so that it will be posted on our domain, but if the user uses a CreditCart it should get posted to https://www.example-otherdomain.com. So far so good. But in some rare conditions, users with CreditCards still posts their form to https://www.example.com. So my idea is: Is there some Same-Domain-Policy for Javascript/HTTPS to protect the user from phishing? It seems that to set the FormAction to the same domain works, but not to reset it to the external one (with JS). I cant reproduce this error, so im asking here if someone knows if theres such a problem. It doesnt matter which UserAgent the user has (there are post datas from FF, Chrome, Webkit, IE7/8) Thx!

My question is: How can I create the base Uri http://www.BlaBla.com without hardcoding it in my application? • I am having trouble with a perl Script

  I have web log files and I was having a lot of trouble, being new with perl. I just need a script to find a count of each of the images that were found. I was able to list them but I'm unsure of how to just get a count, say something like "There were x jpgs and x gifs viewed". • sort giving strange results

  I have an array of email addresses that I am trying to sort, but I'm getting odd results. Here is what I mean: sort($array); print_r($array); ...[79] => 91******@******.com [80] => 9l***@**********.com [81] => ps*******@**********.com [82] => a.c******@*****.com [83] => a.d****@*****.com... What would cause that email beginning with p's to be mixed in after the numbers and before the A's? I removed that email address from the database and replaced it with "testing" and then "testing" appeared in the same position.
