  • Assigning a selector via SEL type?

    - by fuzzygoat
    I just spotted the following in an online tutorial. It showed 001 as a method for assigning a selector, however I could not get this to work. Am I right in thinking that 001 is not right and 002 is the correct way, or am I doing something wrong with 001? // 001 SEL mySel = [self something]; // 002 SEL mySel = @selector(something); . -(void)something { NSLog(@"YAY"); } Gary

  • Using Interface Builder tags

    - by pat
    I'm using interface builder's tag feature to access some UILabels I'm instantiating in a xib file. Since this a UITextViewCell I want to avoid superfluous method calls, but I want to do it right too. Thus when I do: UILabel *label = (UILabel *)[cell viewWithTag:1]; I'm wondering if I should wrap it up like so: if([[cell viewWithTag:1] isKindOfClass [UITableViewCell class]]) { UILabel *label = (UILabel *)[cell viewWithTag:1]; } Any discussion on this would be appreciated. Thanks

    - by VXtreme
    I am using MPMoviePlayerController for playing the media . I want to set the image at the background of the player.The image is set accordingly but when i set the bounds for the image then the image is not set according to bounds . I have tried following code: UIImageView *imageView=[[UIImageView alloc]initWithImage:[operationControl getCoverImage:stringId]]; imageView.bounds=CGRectMake(0, 100, 200, 200); [moviePlayer.backgroundView addSubview:imageView]; [moviePlayer.backgroundView setBackgroundColor:[UIColor purpleColor]]; moviePlayer.controlStyle = MPMovieControlStyleDefault; moviePlayer.shouldAutoplay = YES; [moviePlayer setScalingMode:MPMovieScalingModeAspectFit]; [self.view addSubview:moviePlayer.view]; [moviePlayer setFullscreen:YES animated:YES];

  • Changing Tint / Background color of UITabBar

    - by pixel
    The UINavigationBar and UISearchBar both have a tintColor property that allows you to change the tint color (surprising, I know) of both of those items. I want to do the same thing to the UITabBar in my application, but have found now way to change it from the default black color. Any ideas?

  • GKSession sendDataToAllPeers including sendee?

    - by Typeoneerror
    I've got a number of devices connected over wifi using GameKit. I have a simple UIAlertView popping up when peers receive data. All but the sendee show this alert view when data is sent, so I'm wondering if that's a bug in my app or if that's expected behavior. Should call a method manually at the same on the sendee device? For example, if I wanted to send a "GameStart" packet to the 4 phones, the peers would call startGame: in the receiveData:fromPeer:inSession:context: method when it receives that packet and the sendee would just sendData and call startGame: on itself. Does that sound right or is there a way to include the sendee in the sendData list so that it responds exactly the same as all connected peers?

  • My Thread Programs Crash

    - by zp26
    I have a problem with threads objectiveC. The line of code below contains the recv block the program waiting for a datum. My intention is to launch a thread parallel to the program so that this statement does not block any application. I put this code in my program but when active switch the program crashes. Enter the code. -(IBAction)Chat{ if(switchChat.on){ buttonInvio.enabled = TRUE; fieldInvio.enabled = TRUE; [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:@selector(riceviDatiServer) toTarget:self withObject:nil]; } else { buttonInvio.enabled = FALSE; fieldInvio.enabled = FALSE; } -(void)riceviDatiServer{ NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc]init]; int ricevuti; NSString *datiRicevuti; ricevuti = recv(temp, &datiRicevuti, datiRicevuti.length, 0); labelRicezione.text = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"%s.... %d", datiRicevuti, ricevuti]; [pool release]; }

  • When does validation happen in Core Data?

    - by dontWatchMyProfile
    From the docs: If you make changes to managed objects associated with a given context, those changes remain local to that context until you commit the changes by sending the context a save: message. At that point—provided that there are no validation errors—the changes are committed to the store. So does that essentially mean, that validation happens automatically as soon as I call -save?

  • UIScrollView Infinite Scrolling

    - by Ben Robinson
    I'm attempting to setup a scrollview with infinite (horizontal) scrolling. Scrolling forward is easy - I have implemented scrollViewDidScroll, and when the contentOffset gets near the end I make the scrollview contentsize bigger and add more data into the space (i'll have to deal with the crippling effect this will have later!) My problem is scrolling back - the plan is to see when I get near the beginning of the scroll view, then when I do make the contentsize bigger, move the existing content along, add the new data to the beginning and then - importantly adjust the contentOffset so the data under the view port stays the same. This works perfectly if I scroll slowly (or enable paging) but if I go fast (not even very fast!) it goes mad! Heres the code: - (void) scrollViewDidScroll:(UIScrollView *)scrollView { float pageNumber = scrollView.contentOffset.x / 320; float pageCount = scrollView.contentSize.width / 320; if (pageNumber > pageCount-4) { //Add 10 new pages to end mainScrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(mainScrollView.contentSize.width + 3200, mainScrollView.contentSize.height); //add new data here at (320*pageCount, 0); } //*** the problem is here - I use updatingScrollingContent to make sure its only called once (for accurate testing!) if (pageNumber < 4 && !updatingScrollingContent) { updatingScrollingContent = YES; mainScrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(mainScrollView.contentSize.width + 3200, mainScrollView.contentSize.height); mainScrollView.contentOffset = CGPointMake(mainScrollView.contentOffset.x + 3200, 0); for (UIView *view in [mainContainerView subviews]) { view.frame = CGRectMake(view.frame.origin.x+3200, view.frame.origin.y, view.frame.size.width, view.frame.size.height); } //add new data here at (0, 0); } //** MY CHECK! NSLog(@"%f", mainScrollView.contentOffset.x); } As the scrolling happens the log reads: 1286.500000 1285.500000 1284.500000 1283.500000 1282.500000 1281.500000 1280.500000 Then, when pageNumber<4 (we're getting near the beginning): 4479.500000 4479.500000 Great! - but the numbers should continue to go down in the 4,000s but the next log entries read: 1278.000000 1277.000000 1276.500000 1275.500000 etc.... Continiuing from where it left off! Just for the record, if scrolled slowly the log reads: 1294.500000 1290.000000 1284.500000 1280.500000 4476.000000 4476.000000 4473.000000 4470.000000 4467.500000 4464.000000 4460.500000 4457.500000 etc.... Any ideas???? Thanks Ben.

  • Recreating "presentModalViewController"?

    - by Benjohn Barnes
    I'm using a UIImagePickerController set up as a camera with an overlay view. I want to present a modal view controller on top on this. When I do so, though, the camera view "closes". This would be okay, but when I dismissModalViewControllerAnimated, I see the closed camera, and there is a long and annoying delay before it reopens. I would like to avoid this. Unless someone has a better approach, I am planning to simply perform the transition that presentModalViewController would perform myself. However, if I take my modal view from it's controller and add it as a sub view of the camera overlay view, like this: [[_imagePickerController cameraOverlayView] addSubview: [viewController view]]; then the modal view doesn't show up at all, and the application crashes with an EXC_BAD_ACCESS in my "modal" view's layoutSubViews. Where as, if I present it with presentModalViewController, everything works fine. Clearly, presentModalViewController is also doing some other stuff. Does anyone know what this is so that I can recreate it?

  • converting NSTimer running not on main runloop to GCD

    - by Justin Galzic
    I have a task that runs periodically and it was originally designed to run on a separate run loop than the main runloop using NSThread and NSTimer. What's the best way to adapt this to take advantage of GCD? Current code: -(void)initiateSomeTask { [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:@selector(startTimerTask) toTarget:self withObject:nil]; } -(void)startTimerTask { // We won't get back the main runloop since we're on a new thread NSRunLoop *myRunLoop = [NSRunLoop currentRunLoop]; NSPort *myPort = [NSMachPort port]; [myRunLoop addPort:myPort forMode:NSDefaultRunLoopMode]; NSTimer *myTimer = [NSTimer timerWithTimeInterval:10 /* seconds */ target:self selector:@selector(doMyTaskMethod) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; [myRunLoop addTimer:myTimer forMode:NSRunLoopCommonModes]; [myRunLoop run]; } Is there anything I can do besides replace detachNewThreadSelector with dispatch_async?

  • read http header info in ASIHttpRequest asynchronous

    - by user262325
    Hello everyone One of my project is to download several large size files using ASIHTTPRequest in asynchronous mode. I hope to read the http returned header info to get the size of files. I know [request respsonseHeaders] (requestFinished: delegate method ) can do that. I tested and found that requestFinished: is only triggered when it completed the download of a whole single file. But I hope to access the function [request respsonseHeaders] before ASIHTTPRequest starting to download files (just when ASIHTTPRequest got the returned header info). I can not find the triggered event for this. Welcome any comment Thanks interdev

    - by Guy Dor
    Hi, I have an UIViewController named MainViewController I have another UIViewController named LeftSharingViewController; I would like to get and use the NSString from MainViewController in my LeftSharingViewController I have a problem, I always get (null) instead of the NSString wanted value. Here's my code and how does the NSString get it's value MainViewController: - (void)webViewDidFinishLoad:(UIWebView *)webView { leftWebViewString = [NSString stringWithString:leftWebView.request.URL.absoluteString]; } LeftSharingViewController.h: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "MainViewController.h" #import <MessageUI/MessageUI.h> #import <MessageUI/MFMailComposeViewController.h> @class MainViewController; @interface LeftSharingViewController : UIViewController <MFMailComposeViewControllerDelegate> { MainViewController *mainViewController; NSString *leftWebViewUrl; } @property (nonatomic, retain) MainViewController *mainViewController; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString *leftWebViewUrl; @end LeftSharingViewController.m: #import "LeftSharingViewController.h" #import "MainViewController.h" @implementation LeftSharingViewController @synthesize mainViewController; @synthesize leftWebViewUrl; - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { self.leftWebViewUrl = self.mainViewController.leftWebViewString; } #pragma mark - #pragma mark Compose Mail -(void)displayComposerSheet { MFMailComposeViewController *mailPicker = [[MFMailComposeViewController alloc] init]; mailPicker.mailComposeDelegate = self; [mailPicker setSubject:@"Check Out This Website!"]; [mailPicker setMessageBody:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"Take a look at this site:%@", leftWebViewUrl] isHTML:YES]; mailPicker.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFormSheet; [self presentModalViewController:mailPicker animated:YES]; [mailPicker release]; } Thanks!

  • UINavigationController Push Crash in Distribution but not Release

    - by Alavoil
    I have a UINavigationController that I will be pushing a new view onto from selection of a UITableView row. I have tested this feature in "Release" configuration and it works perfectly, however when I build for "Distribution" it crashes when trying to push the new view onto the stack. - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { /* irrelevant code */ DetailsViewController *detailController = [[DetailsViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"DetailsViewController" bundle:nil]; detailController.name = tmpName; detailController.time = tmpTime; [self.navigationController pushViewController:detailController animated:YES]; return nil; } An exception is thrown on the line where the controller is pushed onto the stack. I have verified that the detailController is not nil. Again, this only happens in my "Distribution" build of the code. Any ideas?

  • Create an UIButton with "push button" appearance?

    - by Krumelur
    I want to create a button with the same look and feel as the "Timer" function in the builtin Clock app, but it really eludes me how to do it. By looking at the source code for UICatalog, it seems to create these buttons you need to create a custom bitmap. Is this true? If so, is there a "standard" bitmap that can be used, to ensure consistent user experience?

  • Why isn't my UITableView appearing in the correct scroll position?

    - by zbrimhall
    I have a split view-based app that presents a master-detail interface, and uses a popover to present the master list when in portrait mode. The popover presents a sectioned table view that ultimately gets populated by a subclass of NSFetchedResultsController. I can tap the tool bar button to present the master list, scroll to whatever row, and tap the row to dismiss the popover. My problem is that if the table is scrolled past the top of the second section, when I dismiss the popover and then later tap the toolbar button to re-present it, the table's scroll position is always set such that the first row of the second section is at the top of the list. If I haven't scrolled past the top of the second section, it correctly remembers its scroll position when the table is presented again. Similarly, in landscape mode, if I scroll the table past the top of the third section and then rotate to portrait, when I come back to landscape the scroll position is always set such that the first row of the third section is at the top of the list. I tried calling -scrollToNearestSelectedRowAtScrollPosition:animated in both the master view controller's -viewWillAppear, as well as in the split view delegate's splitViewController:popoverController:willPresentViewController:, to no effect. Anybody have a clue what I might be doing wrong?

  • UIActivityView and blocking

    - by Rob Bonner
    Hello, I have a section of code that uploads an image: [activity startAnimating]; [self uploadImage:img Session_id:appDelegate.sessionID PlaceID:place.placeID Comment:comment.text]; [activity stopAnimating]; I am sure that activity is wired up correctly to a UIActivityViewIndicator, but it never shows. Inside the uploadImage function, I open a connection to the server and start the upload. Does anyone have an example or possible explanation as to why the activity view would not display?

  • Why can't I save changes to application settings with NSUserDefaults?

    - by Brennan
    I am using the following code to save values from a settings view that takes values from a UITextField and stores them with NSUserDefaults. The code below even calls synchronize yet it is not saving the changes. What am I doing wrong here? - (IBAction)save { NSLog(@"save"); NSUserDefaults *defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; if (self.usernameTextField.text != nil) { NSLog(@"username: %@", self.usernameTextField.text); [defaults setObject:kTwitterUsernameKey forKey:self.usernameTextField.text]; } if (self.passwordTextField.text != nil) { NSLog(@"password: %@", self.passwordTextField.text); [defaults setObject:kTwitterPasswordKey forKey:self.passwordTextField.text]; } [defaults synchronize]; [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:TRUE]; }
