  • Validating an e-mail field based on a specific domain

    I have a site that will require a login by the users. The client will only only users from their company's domain to gain access. I need to validate the field based on an e-mail domain address. ie. only allow email addresses from @mycompany.com to go through. Can this be done with the jquery.validate plugin? I see where you can check to see if it's a valid e-mail, but I'd like to make sure it matches a specific pattern (@mycompany.com). Any help would be appreciated!

  • Background position image overlay (Works in IE, not in Mozilla/Chrome/Safari)

    Hi all, I am having an issue positioning a background image using the following jquery background position command in Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari. The code works correctly in IE 8. $('#element).css({ backgroundPosition: 'xpx ypx' }); The x position of the image is calculated dynamically based on window size and the y position is static. The css appears to be modified correctly, however, the background image I am attempting to overlay is absent.     Using Javascript / jQuery, I'm trying to build a "combination checker" that will take the values of three (but can be more) dropdown lists and filter the options based on a supplied list of allowed combinations. For example: DROPDOWNS Field 1: - value_1 - value_2 Field 2: - value_3 Field 3: - value_4 - value_5 COMBINATIONS - value_1, value_3, value_5 - value_1, value_3, value_4 - value_2, value_3, value_5 When a user selects Field 3 - value_4, the unavailable options will be disabled - ie, Field 1 - value_2 (there is no combination that allows value_2 and value_4 to be selected together). It would be really great if someone could provide some pointers on how this can be achieved or just provide a fresh perspective - I'm going round in circles on this one!

  • Robust way to display an image with one fixed dimension

    Lets say that we have an image uploaded by the user, the upload script limits the mb but not the image size (so could be any proportion, 600X200,200X350, and so...). Im already showing this image in one part on my site using the twitter bootstrap image handler written on css, thats good for a profile picture, the problem is that now I want that image to be a cover (like facebook/twitter cover image), my site is responsive so the width of the cover is 900px or 100% if the screen resolution is less than 900px wide. The height is always fixed to 200px. So I know there is a way to control the correct image display using CSS (maybe with jquery too) but Im not a front-end dev, Im a php dev and I dont want to use server side scripts for doing this. So im looking for suggestions or pieces of codes (css, javascript) to start with, I belive that it have to be an already made solution for this, but I dont find any on google. Thanks for any advice!

    Hi, I'm looking to add a click handler to a div. But is there a way to use a single click handler function and share it between multiple divs? Since I may have 100 divs, I don't want to create a click handler for each (they'll all practically do the same thing).     I'm using the ddslick jquery dropdown plugin in conjunction with my Rails app. In view1, I have $('#challenges_dropdown').ddslick({ <snipped> onSelected: function (data) { $.ajax({ url: "/load_data", type: "GET", data: {"id": data.selectedData.value} }); } }); I.e., I make a call to my controller to load_data. The controller receives this correctly and then at the end, makes a call to render a separate view render "data" This view contains a script snippet that needs to run in order to update some elements of my original view. For some reason, this script snippet is just not running. I'm very confused. When I use a regular link with data-remote="true", then the whole process works perfectly. However, when I make an AJAX call, it fails. What's going on?? Thanks! Ringo

  • auto resize text (font size) when resizing window?

    Hi, I have been trying(in vain) to build a page whose elements would resize as I changed the window size. I have it working in css for images no problem, but I can't seem to accomplish the same for text, and I am not sure it is even possible in CSS. And I can't seem to find a jquery script that accomplishes this. When a user resizes the window, I essentially want the page to scale dynamically and fluidly, without the user having to invoke page zoom. This works fine on my img divs via css, but not for the text, which stays the same size. any ideas? Thanks!

    Hi all: I am working on The ausdcf.org to try adding several banner ads in swf format to the top. Everything starts to work, but I've got several questions that need your help: The client chose not to go with Google AdManager, but prefer a "minimal approach" to do this task. What I am trying to do is sort of "mimicking" the way Google AdManager does for banners, that is, to split the chance of each particular swf to be shown to the visitor evenly among the banner collection. Definitely I can add some jQuery code to do this from client-side, a random number generator and if-else statement would work - just $.load() it! However, what if I'd like to make sure those disabled Javascript (is there any now btw?) still be able to see different swfs in each visit. Any suggestion on how to approach this? There are about 6 of them and are hand-coded (i.e not fetched from a db) so they are likely to remain the same for a while. My question is how I can get them all in an array (in javascript), so I can use them while making an AJAX $.post request using Jquery. Any thoughts? Edit: I would only want the selected checkboxes to be added to the array

  • Problem with $.get while submitting form

    I'm trying to verify that an Account Name is not already in use once a user fills out a form. The code looks like: $("#add_account").submit( function () { $.get( "'.url::site("ajax/check_account_name").'", {account_name: "t"}, function(data){ alert( data ); }); }); I get a $.get response if the statement sits like this: $(document).ready( function () { $.get( "'.url::site("ajax/check_account_name").'", {account_name: "t"}, function(data){ alert( data ); }); }); Which leads me to believe that my $.get statement is correct. Is there some jQuery rule I'm not familiar with that would cause this to fail in on submit scenario? In code block 1, I get values returned like they should. Block 2 gives me a blank response. No errors are returned either. EDIT: I should add that by default there is only one div - additional divs get dynamically created using a jQuery clone function - perhaps this is why it won't recognise the new link/div?

  • Optimal way to store and pass a date to Javascript

    I need to store a date-time value in MySQL and subsequently display it on a webpage. Due to its flexibility I usually chose to store a Unix timestamp in the database and convert it with PHP's date() to the desired format. This time however I would like to use MySQL's datetime field (mostly due to 2038) and apply the browser's timezone (hence I cannot simply format it on the server and pass the string to the client). I thought of storing the date as UTC datetime in the database and send it as well-defined format to the client, where it will be further processed. Here I would like to avoid a Unix timestamp but everything else might add additional overhead in processing. Is there any best practice as far as date processing is concerned in a MySQL, PHP, JQuery environment? Thanks.

    Hi, I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle a dropdown list where one of the options "other" shows a hidden text field (via jQuery), where the user can then enter text. Should both the dropdown and the input field be given the same "name" attribute, then server side code runs a check on the values of each in order to know what one is the active value - e.g if the value of the select box is "other", then check the value of the text input field - if this isn't the default value ("enter text"), then it's ok to use this value and save it to the database. Is this a messy approach to this problem?
