    Hi, I am doing this: @person.attributes = params[:person] Can anyone give me a clue as to why doing an attributes= would cause a bunch of SQL to show in my logs? I see a couple of SELECT and even an UPDATE. I swear I am not doing a "save" -- so I have no idea why setting attributes would trigger queries. Is there a before_ of after_ filter I am missing? Thanks.

  • ASP.NET RadioButtonList help. If I set a selectedItem, that item doesn't react to SelectedIndexChang

    Hi Guys, I have a RadioButtonList on my web form. I have tried two different means to set the selected item. I have tried in the markup, and in code, like the Page_Load event. It sets and displays correctly. My problem is that the selected radio button no longer responds to the SelectedIndexChanged event. The other items works as expected and if I remove the code that sets the selectedItem, then the radio button works as expected. Is there any way I can set a radio button through code, and it still behaves as I would expect. I am guessing, if u force a button to be selected, then it doesn't change.   • angular custom directive required validation is not updated

    i created my own directive, replacing an input field with a custom made input field. However, the validation of the required field never seems to update and instead is always false. Other directives inside my directive like ng-class do work.   • Problem in implementing IAlertUpdateHandler interface

    I've implemented IAlertUpdateHandler interface in a class and used it for handling creation and updating of alerts. The code is fired but it goes into endless loop by calling itself again and again. Actually I want to suppress email notification so I'm calling a.Update(false); but this again calls PreUpdate or PostUpdate method and there is StackOverFlowException :( I've tried returning true/false from both the methods but nothing is helping.

    I have a wiki system where there is a central table, Article, that has many Revisions in their own table. The Revisions each contain a created_at time and date column. I want to update the Articles to contain a denormalized field sort_name from the most recent Revision's name field. What SQL command can I issue to fill in each Article's sort_name field with its most recent Revision's name field? For what it's worth, I'm on PostgreSQL.

    Hey, is there a way to find out the last time a contact was modified? I can't seem to find a variable for it. The reason I'm asking is because I'd like to do a sync of the contacts to my web server and I don't feel like checking for each contact with a HTTP request if it needs updating. So I was thinking to check the date of the last update to the date of the last sync.

  • How to communicate between Client and Server in a Client-Server Application?

    I would like to implement an Client-Server Application, where the business-logic, security validations and a database are at the server and the user interface are at the client. I would like to implement clients in different languages i.e. one in WPF/.NET, one Swing/Java , one in Android/Java and maybe one HTML/JavaScript client. The server will be on Internet, so I would like to be able to have encrypted communication. The client will send some lists of items to be added to the database, or update items, and do some transactions. The server will check if the items are already updated by another client, or update the item, add new items or delete items. How do I solve the communication between clients and the server in such a system? I have been thinking about: http/https webserver, and sending messages in JSON or XML and use Web Sockets for bi-directional communication. Use http in a RESTful way, except when WebSockets are needed. But I guess there are better solutions for native desktop applications than http? CORBA - I have just heard about it, and it's old and complex. Not much talk about it these days. XMPP/Jabber - I have just heard about it and I don't know if it fits me at all. EJabberd seams to be a popular implementation. AMQP - I have just heard about it and I don't know if it fits me at all. RabbitMQ seams to be a popular implementation. Windows Communication Foundation, Java RMI, Java Message Service - but are they language independent? I guess some of these alternatives are on different levels, maybe I can have i.e xmpp or amqp in web sockets over https? What technologys are used for this problem in companies today? and what is recommended to use? I have no experience of them other than webservers and http. Please give me some guidance in this jungle. What are the pros and cons of these technologies in my situation?
