  • Crystal Reports XSD file required?

    Hi, I am trying to create a new report using the PUSH MODEL to supply data. I am creating a DataTable in my C# code and pushing this to a report using a template. I have created a report template and an XSD (using DataSet.WriteXmlSchema) and added this to my report using the Database Expert option. I have since deleted the xsd schema but the report still seems to be working. I was wondering why this was happening. Is the xsd file stored in the report? Thanks a lot. Ravi

  • Why timed lock doesnt throws a timeout exception in C++0x?

    C++0x allows to lock on a mutex until a given time is reached, and return a boolean stating if the mutex has been locked or not. template <class Clock, class Duration> bool try_lock_until(const chrono::time_point<Clock, Duration>& abs_time); In some contexts, I consider an exceptional situation that the locking fails because of timeout. In this case an exception should be more appropriated. To make the difference a function lock_until could be used to get a timeout exception when the time is reached before locking. template <class Clock, class Duration> void lock_until(const chrono::time_point<Clock, Duration>& abs_time); Do you think that lock_until should be more adequate in some contexts? if yes, on which ones? If no, why try_lock_until will always be a better choice?

    I have to store versionName of a template. VersionName is autoincremented.If last versionName is "Version 1.0", next should be "version 2.0". First time when a template is created, I have to store "Version 1.0". I am using VersionName = "Version "+((LatestVersion+1).ToString()) LatestVersion holds the last version which is 0 in case added for first time. This seems to be a ugly workaround and doesnot even yield Version 1.0. it yields Version 1. I Tried with Version class as well,it does not work. How to accomplish this.Please suggest

  • Optimize SQL connection?

    I am building a multi-page web project in HTML and Javascript that is constantly reading from AND writing to an SQL database. I can connect to the database and successfully run my project with this type of connection. var connection = new ActiveXObject("ADODB.Connection") ; var connectionstring="Data Source=<server>;Initial Catalog=<catalog>;User ID=<user>; Password=<password>;Provider=SQLOLEDB"; connection.Open(connectionstring); var rs = new ActiveXObject("ADODB.Recordset"); rs.Open("SELECT * FROM table", connection); rs.MoveFirst while(!rs.eof) { document.write(rs.fields(1)); rs.movenext; } rs.close; connection.close; Works great and runs fine. BUT, the first 5 lines (from var connection = to var rs =) causes the whole browser to freeze for a few seconds while it establishes the connection. I need to speed that up since I am constantly connecting to the database throughout my project. Is there a more effective way of connecting to a SQL database? or is my computer just bad and this should run faster?

  • Building a J2EE dev/test setup on a single PC

    It's been a while since I did Java work, and even then I was never responsible for starting a large project from the very start... there were test/staging/production systems already running, etc, etc. Now I am looking to start a J2EE project from scratch on my trusty workstation, which has never been used for Java development and runs Windows 7 64bit. First of all, I'll be getting Eclipse. As far as writing the code goes I'm pretty happy. And running it through Eclipse is OK, but what I'd really want is to have a VM running MySQL and TomCat on which I can properly deploy my project and run/debug it 'remotely' from my dev PC. And I guess this should be done using Ant instead of letting Eclipse build the WAR for me, so that I don't end up with a dependence on Eclipse. I'm certain Eclipse can do this, so you hit a button and it runs Ant scripts, deploys and debugs for instance, but very hazy on it. Are there any good guides on this? I don't want to be taught Java, or even Ant, but rather the 'glue' parts like getting my test VM up and running under Windows, getting a build/test/deploy/run pipeline running through Eclipse, etc. One point, I only plan to use Windows... hosting a Windows VM on my Windwos desktop. And while I can use command-line tools like ant/svn, I'm much more a GUI person who loves IDE integration... I'd rather this didn't end up an argument about Linux or Vi, etc! I am looking for free, but am a MAPS subscriber, and run Win7 Ultimate in case that makes a difference as far as free VM solutions.

    Apologies if the title is in lowercase but it's describing an extension format. I've started using Dwoo as my template engine for PHP, and am not sure how to convert my PHP files into .tpl templates. My site is similar to, but not the same as, http://library.digiguide.com/lib/programme/Medium-319648/Drama/ with its design (except colour scheme and site name are different, plus it's in PHP - so copyright issues are avoided here, the design arguably could be seen as parody even though the content is different. The database is called tvguide, and it has these tables: Programmes House M.D. Medium Police Stop! American Dad! The tablenames of the above programmes are: housemdonair mediumonair policestopair americandad1 Episodes The tablenames for the above programmes' episode guides are: housemdepidata mediumepidata policestopepidata americandad1epidata All of them have the following rows: id (not an auto-increment, since I wish to dynamically generate a page from this) episodename seriesnumber episodenumber episodesynopsis (the above four after id do exactly as stated) I have a pagination script that works, it displays 20 records per page as I want it to. This is called pmcPagination.php - but I won't post it in full since it would take up too much space. However, I'm trying to get it so that variables are filled in like this: (ok, so the examples below are ASP.NET, but if there's a PHP/MySQL equivalent I would gratefully appreciate this!!): http://library.digiguide.com/lib/episode/741168 http://library.digiguide.com/lib/episode/714829 with the episode detail and data. My site works, but it's fairly basic, and it's not online yet until my bugs are fixed. Mod_rewrite is enabled so my site reads as http://mytvguide.com/episode/123456 or http://mytvguide.com/programme/123456 http://mytvguide.com/WorldInAction/123456/Documentary/ I've tried looking on Google, but am not sure how to get this TV guide script to work at its best - but I think .tpl, and .php/MySQL is the way to go.   • Eclipse Ant Builder problem

    I made a custom ant script to automatically create a jar file each time I do a build. This is how it looks like: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <project name="TestProj" basedir="." default="jar"> <property name="dist" value="dist" /> <property name="build" value="bin/test/testproj" /> <target name="jar"> <jar destfile="${dist}/TestProj.jar"> <manifest> <attribute name="Main-Class" value="test.testproj.TestProj" /> </manifest> <fileset dir="${build}" /> </jar> </target> </project> I added it by Right clicking my project properties builders clicked new Ant builder then I specified the location of the above xml file. However, when I run it by doing: java -jar TestProj.jar I get a NoClassDefFoundError test/testproj/TestProj I'm using Eclipse in Ubuntu. TestProj is the name of the class and it's in package test.testproj I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with the manifest and probably the location of the xml file as well but I'm not sure how to fix this. Any ideas?

    Hi, I'm working in an excel application and providing a menu to the user to add a new worksheet in that excel application (Excel Workbook). The worksheet will be added once the user clicks the "OK" button and I'm using a template to add this worksheet (The template has lot of formatting and formulas in it) Lets say the file size is 10 MB after adding a worksheet if the workbook is saved. Then I close the Excel application and reopen it and save the file then the file size is getting reduced to 8 MB. Can anybody let me know what could be the reason for the same? Thanks, Ram

    Hello to all, I'm working on a site where all the pages are actually index.php + a 'name' parameter that is analyzed and loads the appropriate template and content. the homepage url is: http://www.some_site.com/?page=homepage 1. i was asked to "change" the homepage url to: http://www.some_site.com can i use url rewite and htaccess for that and if so, what should i write there? working on my local machine, i tried this code (mode rewrite is enabled): <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteRule /index.php /index.php?page=homepage </IfModule> i would still need the 'name' parameter to be available to the php code of course, so i can load the template and css files. 2. it would be nice for other pages (not homepage) to be converted from (example) http://www.some_site.com/?page=products to: http://www.some_site.com/products this is less crucial. thanx in advance and have a nice day :-)

  • Large free block of english non-pronoun text

    As part of teaching myself python I've written a script which allows a user to play hangman. At the moment, the hangman word to be guessed is simply entered manually at the start of the script's code. I want instead for the script to choose randomly from a large list of english words. This I know how to do - my problem is finding that list of words to work from in the first place. Does anyone know of a source on the net for, say, 1000 common english words where they can be downloaded as a block of text or something similar that I can work with? (My initial thought was grabbing a chunk of a novel from project gutenburg [this project is only for my own amusement and won't be available anywhere else so copyright etc doesn't matter hugely to me btw], but anything like that is likely to contain too many names or non-standard words that wouldn't be suitable for hangman. I need text that only has words legal for use in scrabble, basically). It's a slightly odd question for here I suppose, but actually I thought the answer might be of use not just to me but anyone else working on a project for a wordgame or similar that needs a large seed list of words to work from.   • Creating multiple instances of a generic database

    Hi all, currently I'm trying to have a setup where a generic database is distributed to students. They would develop an application using this database (Say a shopping cart application), submit their project onto our server, and then it would be graded automatically. These databases are being run in Microsoft SQL Server 2005. We're using user instances to instantiate each database, and multiple requests could be serviced at once. But, the problem is when more than one student submitted a project to be graded, the first database to be instantiated would be the only one and would overwrite all other copies that were currently open. So if stu1 modified his database and stu2 and stu3 had their projects being graded concurrently, at the end of the grading stu1, stu2, and stu3 would have identical DB's at the end. Is there any way I can have multiple independent copies of a generic database, each of which I can load concurrently and modify without having any changes made to any one affecting the others? I did a little reading, and thought it might be possible to do something along the lines of: Student submits project Attach the database with unique db name (specified by student) Do all necessary operations Detach the database I'm unsure if this would fix our problem or be possible, so any help would be much appreciated!

Although it works, it's awfully messy. How can I prevent this?

  • How does an ASP.NET programmer go from working on/developing existing sites, to creating one from sc

    I've been an ASP.NET developer for some time, always working on existing ASP.NET pages, modifying functionality, adding features, tweaking things etc. but have never built a site up from scratch. I've read books on ASP.NET, and they generally talk you through the various features of ASP.NET with a mock up site, but it's always very basic and they jump straight in. The time has come however, to write a site from scratch for a client. I've never done this before. There are design considerations, but like a lot of ASP.NET sites, the basic idea is, you have a site, where users can log in, and save some information like their name and password and address. The site has some functionality, but that's the basic design of a majority of (business-related) asp.net websites I would wager. I know how to program in ASP.NET already on an existing site, but I don't know how to design my own properly that meets the criteria above. I guess the main worry is security. I don't know the best way to handle a simple log-in system that stores user information like their name and password. I understand there are a few approaches to this, but the catch with this project is that it has to be absolutely bulletproof. Maximum security. All those good practices for security, it needs to have them all. I'm not asking what they are, but I am asking where to begin. What should be the first steps after I do File New Project ? Where can I look for information about setting up a secure ASP.NET website? I'll figure out the content and page layout later, it's the framework that is the big thing. Any and all advice would be welcome. I really want to get my first from-scratch project right from the beginning. Just to confuse things, it's possible I will be using MVC, I am not sure if this has any impact.

    I get the following error with VS2008: Conversion to enumeration type requires an explicit cast (static_cast, C-style cast or function-style cast) When casting a down casting a ClassA to ClassA_1 and ClassA_1 is a templated class that received an enum for parameter such as: ClassA { virtual ~ClassA(){}; } template <class Param1> ClassA_1 : public ClassA { public: //constructor ClassA_1(Param1 p1) { _p1 = p1; } Param1 _p1; } So I have a upcasted ClassA a = new ClassA_1<myenum>(); When I need to do this: ClassA_1<myenum> a1 = (ClassA_1<myenum> a); // This fails ... The only way it works is: ClassA_1<int> a1 = (ClassA_1<int> a); but this break my template as it must always deal with int... How to properly cast a enum that is now a int, back into the enum?

  • java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError thrown with my own packages in Android 1.5

    Hi, I have developed an application which has several packages within it's project... A class in one of those packages is called right away in the first line of code, which throws the dreaded java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError error... I don't get it, the package simply is within the project, and it works fine on my Android 1.6 device, but won't work with my 1.5 device... I do have to say that the project was originally set for 1.6, but then I changed the within the manifest from 4 to 3... Is that bad practice ? Or maybe it has nothing to do with the platform version ? Again, this works just fine on the 1.6 device, even though thats a development device whilst my 1.5 device is a non-development device...

    My language ID is 'id'. I used localized humanize library for my Django template tags and use the naturaltime, but the translation is partially wrong. The now translated to sekarang is right. second to detik. minute to menit, but when it comes to date, week, or months, the word is not translated to my language. It keeps printing date, week, and months.
