    Hi All, I'm writing an application that needs to verify HMAC-SHA256 checksums.   • Linux - How do i know the block map of the given file and/or the free space map of the partition.

    Hello, I am on Linux and need to know either of the two things: 1) If i have a regular file on some file system on a partition under Linux is there a way to know the set of the physical blocks that this file occupies on the drive from user space? Or at least the set of the file system's clusters? 2) Is there a way to get the same information about the whole free space of the given file system? In both cases i understand that if there is any possible way to extract this info it will probably be totally unsafe and racy (anything could happen to these set of blocks between the time i see them and act on them somehow). I also really don't want an implementation that will have to know a lot about every filesystem.

  • C# Speech Recognition - Is this what the user said?

    I have need to write an application which uses a speech recognition engine -- either the built in vista one, or a third party one -- that can display a word or phrase, and recognise when the user reads it (or an approximation of it). I also need to be able to switch quickly between languages, without changing the language of the operating system. The users will be using the system for very short periods. The application needs to work without the requirement of first training the recognition engine to the users' voices. It would also be fantastic if this could work on Windows XP or lesser versions of Windows Vista. Optionally, the system needs to be able to read information on the screen back to the user, in the user's selected language. I can work around this specification using pre-recorded voice-overs, but the preferred method would be to use a text-to-speech engine. Can anyone recommend something for me?

  • How to fix Windows 2008 R2 show less memory than available

    I've got Win2008 R2 64bit installed on Dell R410 server with 8GB of RAM. Dell Open Manage shows 8GB total and 4GB available for use, In Windows Control Panel, System i see 64bit and 8GB of RAM while in Windows Task Manager at Performance tab there is 4GB of memory available. Dell support has made some checks and told me that if BIOS shows 8Gb of RAM and indeed BIOS does then it's operational system issue. Tried to search online for resolution but none found. Please help, thanks

  • Silverlight binaries what are .ni.dlls?

    In browsing around the Silverlight installation directory I see a number of framework DLLs as expected. But I also see a separate DLL with the same name but with .ni inserted between the dll name and extension. For example there is a System.dll and System.ni.dll. There appears to be a sister .ni dll for almost all of the system dlls. Looking at the quickly in Reflector they appear to include the same content, but are much bigger in binary size. Just out of curiosity, can anyone explain what these are?

    I'm trying to have classes serialized using MS runtime and Mono runtime. While using MS runtime everything goes fine, but using Mono I give me some exception and program startup. The following exception are thrown: There was an error reflecting a type: System.TypeInitializationException (a class) There was an error reflecting a type: System.InvalidOperationException (a class) There was an error reflecting a field: System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException < 0 (an array of classes) The binary was compiled using MS SDK, but I don't think this is the problem. What's going on? .NET shouln't be portable? How to solve these exceptions?

    I came from a Windows background whern it comes to development environments. I'm used to run .exe's from everything I need to run and just forget. I usually code in php, javascript, css, html and python. Now, I have to use Linux at my work, in a non changeable Ubuntu 8.04, with permissions to upgrade my system using company's repositories only. I need to install Python 2.4.3 to start coding in an old legacy system. I had Python 2.5. I downloaded Python 2.4.3 tarballs, ran ./configure make and such. Everything worked out, but now the "default" installation is my system is Python2.4 instead of of Python2.5. I want help from you to change it back, and if possible, some material to read about symlinks, multiple Python installations, virtualenvs and such: everything I need to know before installing/upgrading Python modules. I installed for example the ElementTree package and don't even know in which Python installation it was installed. Thanks in advance!

On a normal phone you can just plug it into the wall socket then multiple people on different phones can speak a the same time.     I installed a new system last week. I've some issues with it. The system consists of a: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H with F9 BIOS (latest) Intel Core i5 3570K proccesor Sapphire Radeon HD7850 2x 8GB Corsair 1600MHz memory OCZ Vertex 2 120G SSD Connected peripherals : 2 Samsung 940BF (1 via DVI on GFX card, 1 via an Displayport to DVI adapter) 1 Dell U2312HM monitor (displayport) Dell USB Hub (monitor) Wired mouse, wireless keyboard (logitech) Logitch G25 wheel Canon MP800 printer Okay, my issues are the following: if I plug in 1 or more monitor at DisplayPort during boot, most of the time it won't boot properly. I get an empty message screen of UEFI: only the header GIGABYTE DUEL BIOS appears. The system reboots itself, turns on for a few seconds (no video) and then reboots again. Now it starts all over again. This repeats until I remove all displayport monitors. Windows boots, and I can use them when I replug them. The graphics card has been running fine for a few weeks on an older system (intel Q6600). Another issue is; if I plug in my G25 steering wheel, the UEFI BIOS is inaccessible. It either gives the same empty UEFI screen, or the BIOS screen is rendering but crashes half way (so pieces of text and graphics are missing, and it has crashed). If I remove the G25, all is fine. To verify the graphics card is OK and the motherboard is causing these issues, I tried an NVIDIA 8800GT graphics card. This hasn't got Displayport, but it also cannot boot the BIOS with the G25 wheel plugged in. The PC also refuses to go into or out of standby. It just hangs when going into standby, and in other occasions (when it does succesfully do so) get out of standby. Power supply is OCZ StealthXStream 600W. Proccesor is 25 - 30C idle, ~55C stressed (Scythe Mugen 2). I am really puzzled what can be done to resolve this. I am not really waiting for an RMA request (otherwise I will return the MB for another type), because it will likely mean I have to wait very long before I get a replacement. Anyone else with a similar experience on this board/chipset or can help me troubleshoot this?

  • Https in java ends up with strange results

    I'm trying to illustrate to students how https is used in java. But i have the feeling my example is not really the best out there... The code works well on my windows 7: I start the server, go to https://localhost:8080/somefile.txt and i get asked to trust the certificate, and all goes well. When I try over http (before or after accepting the certificate) I just get a blank page, which is ok for me. BUT when I try the exact same thing on my windows XP: Same thing, all goes well. But then (after accepting the certificate first), I'm also able to get all the the files through http! (if I first try http before https followed by accepting the certificate, I get no answer..) I tried refreshing, hard refreshing a million times but this should not be working, right? Is there something wrong in my code?   • Any way to recover ext4 filesystems from a deleted LVM logical volume?

    The other day I had a proper brain fart moment while expanding a disk on a Linux guest under Vmware. I stretched the Vmware disk file to the desired size and then I did what I usually do on Linux guests without LVM: I deleted the LVM partition and recreated it, starting in the same spot as the old one, but extended to the new size of the disk. (Which will be followed by fsck and resize2fs.) And then I realized that LVM doesn't behave the same way as ext2/3/4 on raw partitions... After restoring the Linux guest from the most recent backup (taken only five hours earlier, luckily) I'm now curious on how I could have recovered from the following scenario. It's after all virtually guaranteed that I'll be a dumb ass in the future as well. Virtual Linux guest with one disk, partitioned into one /boot (primary) partition (/dev/sda1) of 256MB, and the rest in a logical, extended partition (/dev/sda5). /dev/sda5 is then setup as a physical volume with pvcreate, and one volume group (vgroup00) created on top of it with the usual vgcreate command. vgroup00 is then split into two logical volumes root and swap, which are used for / and swap, logically. / is an ext4 file system. Since I had backups of the broken guest I was able to recreate the volume group with vgcfgrestore from the backup LVM setup found under /etc/lvm/backup, with the same UUID for the physical volume and all that. After running this I had two logical volumes with the same size as earlier, with 4GB free space where I had stretched the disk. However, when I tried to run "fsck /dev/mapper/vgroup00-root" it complained about a broken superblock. I tried to locate backup superblocks by running "mke2fs -n /dev/mapper/vgroup00-root" but none of those worked either. Then I tried to run TestDisk but when I asked it to find superblocks it only gave an error about not being able to open the file system due to a broken file system. So, with the default allocation policy for LVM2 in Ubuntu Server 10.04 64-bit, is it possible that the logical volumes are allocated from the end of the volume group? That would definitely explain why the restored logical volumes didn't contain the expected data. Could I have recovered by recreating /dev/sda5 with exactly the same size and disk position as earlier? Are there any other tools I could have used to find and recover the file system? (And clearly, the question is not whether or not I should have done this in a different way from the start, I know that. This is a question about what to do when shit has already hit the fan.)

    How to create Bitmap object from a Graphics object ? I would like to read pixels from my Graphics object. for example, like, System.Drawing.BitMap.GetPixel(). I am trying to find out empty area (all white, or of any colour) inside a pdf document, to write some graphics / image.
