• ASP.NET Dynamic form generation and submition

  I need to create a form where for each day in the month the user will enter in several different values (Im thinking a grid sort of thing, values along the top, day of the month along the side) using ASP.NET forms with C# backend... So what would be the best way to generate this form? I dont want to hardcode that many controls as it would make the submition a little annoying but i also would need to be able to give it values entered in previous days and have it display them in the textboxes. How would i go about creating this form and also how would i get the values from the textboxes in the backend?

• Font choices in International scenarios: multilingual vs unicode

  I have a website that will eventually display multiple languages. I notice the common fonts used in web CSS (ex: Arial, Verdana, Times New Roman, Tahoma) and even the newer Vista/Office 2007/VS2008 fonts (Calibri,Cambria, Candara, Corbel, etc) are significantly larger (~350K) than your average (US only?) TTF font (~50k) so these fonts contain most/all the major character sets that common languages (Spanish, French, German, etc) use. My question is, would somebody confirm that these fonts listed above are acceptable for international use of the major (let's say top 8) spoken languages? If so, then I'm guessing the only purpose of unicode fonts; such "Arial Unicode" (a massive 22mb) is only for dealing with extremely niche dialog, eastern glyphs (Chinese, Japanese) and dead languages? I'm just looking for some confirmation from developers that have their desktop apps/web apps rendering multiple languages and have a visual confirmation, I'm already in the 99% sure bin but you know what they say about assumption.

• Table-cell property ignores width

  I have set a CSS propery table-cell for a div. I have also specified the width for the div and set overflow hidden. But because of the table-cell property the div does not care about the width. If I place any large image, it goes out of the width. • Xcode: How-to bind a key that triggers application to appear (background daemon)

  Hi, I am struggling to create a certain kind of application my Mac, using Xcode and Interface Builder (RubyCocoa). As I am a nuby (but understand some Ruby), I would like to know how I could let my interface appear only if a key is pushed (a toggle), while the program is running in the background. Similar behavior like when I'd press the F4-key to show Dashboard. Really neat would be if the program wouldn't be showing as running in the Dock, but as a funky icon in the top bar, like well "Growl". Thank you so much for your help, comments and feedback!

• How secure is a PostgreSQL database if my server is stolen?

  If I have a server with a database if top secret data in PostgreSQL and my password is practically impossible to crack (128 character string of all sorts of weird chars, generated by hand). The server password is also uncrackable in theory (basically, ignore the possibility of a password crack on the DB). Aside from a password crack, how easy is it to get the data out of this database? Assumptions: Only the DB exists on the server. There is no password in a PHP script or anything like that The person who has the server is a computer / DB / hard-drive recovery expert I'm not using any hard-drive encryption or anything out of the norm for protection I'm trying to understand the risks involved with somebody gaining physical access to my server's hard-drives.

• LLBLGen and the repository pattern

  I was wondering if building a repository on the top LLBLGen (adapter) is a good idea. I don't want to overengineer and reinvent the wheel again. The DataAccessAdapter class could be some kind of a generic repository.It has all the CRUD methods you need. But on the other side for a larger project it could be good to have a layer between your ORM and service layer. I'd like to hear your opinions, if your using the repository pattern with LLBLGen,if yes why if no why not. If you have some implementation, post it please.

• Tracking pageviews and displaying related data

  I want track which articles a user read on a website. Then with that data, be able to know: 1) - top N articles read in the last hour/day/week/month 2) - show recommendations ("users who read this, also read that") 3) - same as (1), but for a specific section on the site Since the site has high traffic ( 1M views/day) i can't use a RDBMS for this. I started to look at NoSQL (cassandra specifically) and since it's all new to me i'm not sure it's what i need or not. I'm possitive i'm not the first one who needs something like this but couldn't find links/articles giving me pointers on how to do something like this. Is NoSQL the best aproach? Any tips on the data model? Thanks.

• NSNotification postNotificationName in AppDelegate but NSNotificationCenter in ViewController?

  I can't get the selector method, receiveChatText, in the NSNotificationCenter to execute and I am wondering if the problem is because the NSNotification postNotificationName is in AppDelegate.m but NSNotificationCenter is in ViewController.m? I.E. can the postNotificationName know that the NSNotificationCenter is in another viewController file or is that something I need to tell it? In a viewController.m I have -(id)init { self = [super init]; if(self){ [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(receiveChatText:) name:ChatMessageReceived object:nil]; return self; } - (void)receiveChatText:(NSNotification *)note { NSLog(@"received chat text"); } and in the top level AppDelegate.m file I have the following: -(void) didReceiveMessage { [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] postNotificationName:ChatMessageReceived object:nil userInfo:nil]; } Any ideas what could stop receiveChatText from being executed when didReceiveMessage is called?

• Unable to Calculate Position within Owner-Draw Text

  I'm trying to use Visual Studio 2012 to create a Windows Forms application that can place the caret at the current position within a owner-drawn string. However, I've been unable to find a way to accurately calculate that position. I've done this successfully before in C++. I've now tried numerous methods in C#. Originally, I tried using .NET classes to determine the correct position, but then I tried accessing the Windows API directly. In some cases, I came close, but after some time I still cannot place the caret accurately. I've created a small test program and posted key parts below. I've also posted the entire project here. The exact font used is not important to me; however, my application assumes a mono-spaced font. Any help is appreciated. • How do I set sys.excepthook to invoke pdb globally in python?

  From Python docs: sys.excepthook(type, value, traceback)¶ This function prints out a given traceback and exception to sys.stderr. When an exception is raised and uncaught, the interpreter calls sys.excepthook with three arguments, the exception class, exception instance, and a traceback object. In an interactive session this happens just before control is returned to the prompt; in a Python program this happens just before the program exits.   Is there any mechanism to comment out large blocks of Python code? Right now the only ways I can see of commenting out code are to either start every line with a #, or to enclose the code in """ (triple quotes), except that actually makes it show up in various doc tools. Edit--After reading the answers (and referring to the "duplicate"), I have concluded the correct answer is "No". One person said so, and the rest lectured us about editors. Not a bad thing, but I feel it's important to put the answer at the top.

• Shift browser contents to the left while viewing in wide screen

  I use a widescreen laptop. Many websites have their content centre aligned. On wider screens this means lot of empty space on left and right. As such this is not a botheration. Many a times, I read some instructions on the web page and type them out on the command prompt. I prefer to overlay the command prompt window on top of the browser and if the browser contents are left aligned (or right aligned), then I need not Alt-tab across these windows. I use Firefox on Ubuntu. I use the command line (konsole) heavily. I know compiz (and similar) tools provides transparent windows so that the content beneath is visible. But I don't want to install compiz or its equivalent because my graphics driver is not all that good. Any addon or simple trick that would shift the page content to the left (or right) would be very helpful (read productive).

• How to limit number of displayed items in html.dropdownlist?

  I have a html.dropdownlist on my webpage as follows: <%=Html.DropDownList("MyDropDown", Model.Data, new { @class = "dropdown"})%> I am populating the dropdown with ~80 items. The issue is that when I click the dropdown the list of items is rendered from the top of the screen to the bottom of the screen. How can I set up the dropdownlist so that it only displays a maximum of 20 items when the dropdown menu is clicked (i.e. user needs to scroll down to see items 21 - 80)? I was anticipating (!) that there would be a html.dropdownlist property to control the number of displayed items that would allow something like the following e.g.: <% =Html.DropDownList("MyDropDown", Model.Data, new { @class = "dropdown", rows ="20"}) %> From research I have been doing on the msdn website it appears that there is no such property and that each browser has its own rules of how many items are displayed in a dropdownlist (?). I am using IE6 and IE7.

I've tried using Javascript and inserting animation commands directly into the SVG, but nothing works. I don't want to load in an entire JS library for this one task. I´m trying to do something like you do in a spreadsheet where you have a fixed header and the first column too So when scroll the uitableview vertically the header will stay visible at top of the table and rows will change And finally when you scroll in horizontal direction the first cell of the row will stay visible and will change the header depending of how you scroll the uitableview I hope you could give me an idea how to get this, because I don't imagine how to do this, also I don´t have a lot of experience with this programming language. • HTML: How to get a child element to show behind (lower z-index) than its parent

  I need for a certain dynamic element to always appear on top of another element, no matter what order in the DOM tree they are. Is this possible? I've tried z-index (with position: relative), and it doesn't seem to work. I hate to be vague, but this is the simplest way I can think of asking this question without explaining its purpose ad nauseum. What could cause this???   I have a <div> which I want to display full screen, but I also need to incorporate a 60px high <div> and a 10px high <div> at the top of the document. • Closing a dialog form closes the application

When i close the dialog form the application is closed, not just the dialog form! If i invoke the dialog form in other form it works normally. The form from which i invoke the dialog form is top level, but even if i change that i'm getting the same result. Does anyone know what's wrong?

• In a Maven project, what are reasons for either a nested or a flat directory layout?

  As my Maven project grows, I'm trying to stay on top of the project structure. So far, I have a nested directory layout with 2-3 levels, where there's a POM on each level with module entries corresponding to the directories at that level. POM inheritance (parent property) does not necessarily follow this, and is not relevant for the purpose of this question. Now, while the nested structure seems pretty natural to Maven, and it's nice and clean as long as you are on one particular level, I'm starting to get confused by what I look at in my IDE (Eclipse and IntelliJ IDEA). I had a look at the Apache Felix sources, and they have a pretty complex project in what seems to be a flat directory structure, so I'm wondering if this would be a better way to go. What are some pros and cons for either approach that you have experienced in practice? Note that this question (which I found meanwhile) seems to be very similar. I'll leave it to the community to decide whether this should be closed as a duplicate.

• Obtain Latitude and Longitude from a GeoTIFF File

  Using GDAL in Python, how do you get the latitude and longitude of a GeoTIFF file? GeoTIFF's do not appear to store any coordinate information. Instead, they store the XY Origin coordinates. However, the XY coordinates do not provide the latitude and longitude of the top left corner and bottom left corner. It appears I will need to do some math to solve this problem, but I don't have a clue on where to start. What procedure is required to have this performed? I know that the GetGeoTransform() method is important for this, however, I don't know what to do with it from there.

The comments are stored in a different table from the stories. The code above does not return any values and doesn't show any errors. Could someone please help?
