  I'm looking for a job, I want to break into programming. I'm looking for the right sort of role and the right place to look for it; I would really appreciate input from someone with industry experience. I've got an excellent academic record: BSc Physics (2:1), MSc Computer Graphics, Vision and Imaging (expecting Merit) from two world ranking universities. I have advanced technical knowledge of C/C++ and Matlab and experience working with C# and VB.NET. Unfortunately I don't have much in the way of commercial experience; unlike a lot of people I know my under-graduate didn't come with a sandwich placement. Where can I go to break into the software industry?

  i use AuroraMint as my themes. but some colors mess up my opera. when i use "gnome-appearance-properties-customize theme-Colors", i only can found input boxes' text color here. but i still want change background colors in email list (opera use GTK theme here). • How to give life to my idea which belong to my company?

  I wonder, what options do I have in the following situation. In the course of the several projects I realised the need in some auxilary software product (related to testing of the main products). I applied a creative approach to the matter and implemented a system which I think has a potential and looking promising (maybe not on the market but at least among some interested supporters). I have even more ideas related to this system and continue developing at my free and work time. It has become a work and hobby at the same time. Unfortunately, this work basically has nothing in common with the company's business and there is no way this will be organized in a form of standard development process and be presented to costumers as a product. What can you suggest in this situation? How to avoid breaching of contract? Have you had something similar in your career? What if my intention is to develop it as an open source project?

• How to install texlive2011?

  I just moved from Windows to Ubuntu. Software Center in Ubuntu does have texlive2009 package. There is no straightforward installation process from TUG, or from Google search result. I found some installation of Texlive2010 but it does not work. Here are the step: download an texlive2011.iso, 2.3GB and save in local drive mount to a virtual drive install perl tk (ok) "sudo ./install-tl" does not work, "perl ./install-tl" shows pre-installation setting but it does not have the write access to /usr/local/textlive/2011/ Finally, I'm stuck Please guide me with a step by step tutorial or suggest any other solution beside typing in the black screen without knowing what is going on behind the Terminal.

• How can you identify duplicate CSS rules?

  I'm not talking about used/unused here. I have two stylesheets and some rules differ (either in selectors, rules or both) and some are exactly the same. So I'm looking for a way to extract and move those rules, which are the same in both files, into a third stylesheet. In other words: an intersection of two stylesheets. Strangely, I couldn't find a software for this. Would have expected this to be a more common problem. Background, for those who care: I'm converting a desktop website into a mobile one and I've started by duplicating the desktop stylesheet and changing it (throwing stuff out, adding to it).

• Ubuntu 14.04 Fatal Exception

  I use Ubuntu 14.04, 64-bit. I installed Virtualbox and was testing another Linux OS (Deepin). My system froze and I could not get to a TTY session to reboot. I had to do a hard restart and when Ubuntu restarted I got various error codes one of which was "kernel panic - fatal exception in interrupt" Booting to Advance mode and attempting repairs did not work (fsck, grub repair, etc) I reinstalled Ubuntu and chose the option to keep my files intact. I can now access my system but many programs I have installed do not work. My question is; I have a Deja-Dup backup (but only of my Home directory), is it better to restore my backup files or do I have to reinstall all of my programs? The weird thing is, the programs I verified using the Software Center to see if they were installed are checked as installed, but won't appear in Dash.

  Someone posted a script a couple days ago, here is my output.Pastebin I can see wifi SSIDs in network, but cannot connect to mine. The only time wifi worked on 13.10 was in the Live CD, but wifi stopped working as soon as install process started. Did below but made no difference. sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source sudo modprobe -rv brcmsmac sudo modprobe -v wl What I do next? I tried Software&Updates and it showed 1 proprietary driver in use. This sounds like a WPA/WPA2 issue? Wifi works when I tried Zorin OS 7.1, wifi always worked in windows 7.

• Installing VMware Worstation/Player 8.0.4 on Ubuntu 12.10 fails to load with Unable to start services

  I have been attempting to install this application for a few weeks without any success. I have installed and uninstalled the application and pathes with no change. I have even tried to load a VM in Virtualbox and install the application there to a base install of Ubuntu 12.10 and it still did not install. I have downloaded the patch and modified it to reflect the version of VMware Worstation and Player I am installing. I still receive the same error I saw in the first attempt to install the software. Which leads me to think that I am missing something. The error is: Unable to start services. See log file /tmp/vmware-root/modconfig-7674.log for details. I have the output of the log file if that will help. According to the dialogue box Virtual Network Device and VMware Blocking Filesystem fail to either load or execute. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Microsoft will not use this information to personally identify or contact you. • Why does Ubuntu Freezes on ASUS K42DY laptop with RADEON HD6470M Graphics Card?

  Hi,I have an ASUS K42DY laptop with AMD Phenom II x2, 8 GB Ram , 500 GB Hard Drive and has a didicated ATI RADEON HD 6470M Graphics Card and I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64bit on it. I have installed GNOME 3 and also followed this Make Ubuntu look like Mac OS X. I have also installed apps from the software center, getdeb & playdeb all of which worked fine. However, I noticed that Ubuntu freezes after inactivity let's say 1-3hrs. I have already set power setting to never standby or hibernate. This is completely annoying because all I can do is log-out via ctrl+alt+del or manually shut down and reboot my laptop. What should I do? By the way, this happens on all shells Unity, Gnome (even with the basic) and Cairo Dock.I set Swap Space at 8GB during installation. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

  I am trying to use "MTNL 3G Jadoo" data card (Teracom LW272) with Ubuntu 12.04. On connecting, it gets mounted as a drive containing the client installation .deb file. I opened the .deb file in Ubuntu Software Center and installed it. I searched for "MTNL" in Ubuntu search and found "MTNL 3G Modem" application. But it won't run. I found it is installed in /opt/MTNL-3GModem. I tried running it from the terminal as: sudo /opt/MTNL-3GModem/ModemClient, but no luck. Any idea how to get it working?

As a recently graduated Computer Systems Engineering I have gained some basic knowledge with programming using JAVA. I have realised 2 things, the first one is that I realy liked programming and the second is that I am not good at all.   can someone tell me what I need to do... I downloaded MetaTrader4 setup.exe onto my computer with a new harddrive and new install of ubuntu. I have downloaded wine, and 7zip... I right clicked the setup file... selected "open with Wine Windows Program loader" ... It looks like its going to open and then it closes the icon on the launcher that had appeared as it went to open... What are the settings i need to change? How do I get to "software sources? The program already works in it's current state, but I decided to reimplement things to improve the OO design. I'm about to implement this new design by refactoring a big part of the application. Thing is I'm not sure where to start. Obviously, by the nature of a rearrangement, the moment you change one part of the program several other parts (at least temporarily) break. So it's a little 'scary' to rearrange something in a piece of software that already works. I'm asking for advice or some general guidelines: how should I approach a significant refactoring? When you approach rearranging large parts of your application, where do you start? Note that I'm interested only in re-arranging the high-level structure of the app. I have no intention of rewriting local algorithms.

  I only started using Ubuntu a couple months ago. I've been able to get pictures from my camera onto the machine. The system is very different for me and I'm trying to work it out on my own, but I have a homework assignment that requires me to upload JPG files of photos I take and I'm having a problem. When I click the button on the page to choose a file, I go into the different photo files and nothing shows up, but the screen where files would be turns a very faint orange, just a tint.   I like Haskell, plain and simple. While Haskell is used in production software, it's not especially widely deployed from what I've seen. • What's the best subversion client to use for a working copy on a network share that's being modified by other users without a subversion client?

  That probably sounds confusing. Here's my situation: I have a software project I'd like to version control with Subversion. The project files are on a network share which is modified by several users. I'd like to version control the directory with caveat that many of the users are not going to be using a SVN client when they add, modify, move, and rename files. I'll be doing all the version control myself along with one or two other users. When I commit the changes with an SVN client I'd assume that all changes made to file, all deletions, renames, etc are intentional. So how do I detect these changes if as user made them without using a client like TortoiseSVN? Can anyone recommend a client that could determine possible renames, deletions, and moved files?
