• Deserialize json with json.net c#

  Hi, am new to Json so a little green. I have a Rest Based Service that returns a json string; {"treeNode":[{"id":"U-2905","pid":"R","userId":"2905"}, {"id":"U-2905","pid":"R","userId":"2905"}]} I have been playing with the Json.net and trying to Deserialize the string into Objects etc. I wrote an extention method to help. public static T DeserializeFromJSON<T>(this Stream jsonStream, Type objectType) { T result; using (StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(jsonStream)) { JsonSerializer serializer = new JsonSerializer(); try { result = (T)serializer.Deserialize(reader, objectType); } catch (Exception e) { throw; } } return result; } I was expecting an array of treeNode[] objects. • PHP Exceptions in Classes

  I'm writing a web application (PHP) for my friend and have decided to use my limited OOP training from Java. My question is what is the best way to note in my class/application that specific critical things failed without actually breaking my page. Currently my problem is I have an Object "SummerCamper" which takes a camper_id as it's argument to load all of the necessary data into the object from the database. Say someone specifies a camper_id in the querystring that does not exist, I pass it to my objects constructor and the load fails. Currently I don't see a way for me to just return false from the constructor. I have read I could possibly do this with Exceptions, throwing an exception if no records are found in the database or if some sort of validation fails on input of the camper_id from the application etc. However, I have not really found a great way to alert my program that the Object Load has failed. I tried returning false from within the CATCH but the Object still persists in my php page. I do understand I could put a variable $is_valid = false if the load fails and then check the Object using a get method but I think there may be better ways. What is the best way of achieving the essential termination of an object if a load fails? Should I load data into the object from outside the constructor? Is there some osrt of design pattern that I should look into? Any help would be appreciated.

• Spring 3 MVC validation BindingResult doesn't contain any errors

  I'm attempting to get a Spring 3.0.2 WebMVC project running with the new annotated validation support. I turned on the debugger, and when I get into the controller method, the BindingResult contains 0 errors after I submit an empty form. (The BindingResult does show that it contains the Client object as a target.) It then proceeds to insert a record without an Id and throws an exception. If I fill out an Id but leave the name blank, it creates a record with the Id and empty fields. What steps am I missing to get the validation working?

• LINQ to Entity: using Contains in the "select" portion throws unexpected error

  I've got a LINQ query going against an Entity Framework object. Here's a summary of the query: //a list of my allies List<int> allianceMembers = new List<int>() { 1,5,10 }; //query for fleets in my area, including any allies (and mark them as such) var fleets = from af in FleetSource select new Fleet { fleetID = af.fleetID, fleetName = af.fleetName, isAllied = (allianceMembers.Contains(af.userID) ? true : false) }; Basically, what I'm doing is getting a set of fleets. The allianceMembers list contains INTs of all users who are allied with me. I want to set isAllied = true if the fleet's owner is part of that list, and false otherwise. When I do this, I am seeing an exception: "LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'Boolean Contains(Int32)' method" I can understand getting this error if I had used the contains in the where portion of the query, but why would I get it in the select? By this point I would assume the query would have executed and returned the results. This little ditty of code does nothing to constrain my data at all. Any tips on how else I can accomplish what I need to with setting the isAllied flag? Thanks

  I'm trying to find a generic way of getting the name of Constructors. • Java ternary operator and boxing Integer/int?

  I tripped across a really strange NullPointerException the other day caused by an unexpected type-cast in the ternary operator. Given this (useless exemplary) function: Integer getNumber() { return null; } I was expecting the following two code segments to be exactly identical after compilation: Integer number; if (condition) { number = getNumber(); } else { number = 0; } vs. Integer number = (condition) ? getNumber() : 0; . Turns out, if condition is true, the if-statement works fine, while the ternary opration in the second code segment throws a NullPointerException. It seems as though the ternary operation has decided to type-cast both choices to int before auto-boxing the result back into an Integer!?! In fact, if I explicitly cast the 0 to Integer, the exception goes away. In other words: Integer number = (condition) ? getNumber() : 0; is not the same as: Integer number = (condition) ? getNumber() : (Integer) 0; . So, it seems that there is a byte-code difference between the ternary operator and an equivalent if-else-statement (something I didn't expect). Which raises three questions: Why is there a difference? Is this a bug in the ternary implementation or is there a reason for the type cast? Given there is a difference, is the ternary operation more or less performant than an equivalent if-statement (I know, the difference can't be huge, but still)?

• Foreign key relationships in Entity Framework

  I'm trying to add an object created from Entity Data Model classes. I have a table called Users, which has turned into a User EDM class. And I also have a table Pages, which has become a Page EDM class. These tables have a foreign key relationship, so that each page is associated with many users. Now I want to be able to add a page, but I can't get how to do it. I get a nullreference exception on Users below. I'm still rather confused by all this, so I'm sure it's a simple error, but I just can't see how to do it. Also, by the way, the compiler requires that I set PageID in the object initializer, even though this field is set to be an automatic id in the table. Am I doing it right just setting it to 0, expecting it to be updated automatically in the table when saved, or how should I do that? Any help appreciated! Edit I know get a error in my actual xml file. • Java Play Mustache NPE Error

  We are getting a mustache play error in production (amazon linux EC2 AMI) but not in development (MACs) and we have tried upgrading the jvm, using the jdk instead, and changing from a tomcat deploy model to match our development environments as much as possible but nothing is working. Please any help would be greatly appreciated.   I am having a problem that may be simple to fix, but not simple for me to debug.   Why is it considered bad practice to lock non-static fields? And, if I am not locking non-static fields, then how do I lock an instance method without locking the method on all other instances of the same or derived class? I want to make sure that no other threads can call a method on a particular instance of an object while it is locked.

  What are the best practices if you have a class which accepts some parameters but none of them are allowed to be null? • Why does grails use hsqldb when I ask for mysql?

  I'm following the racetrack example from Jason Rudolph's book at InfoQ, using grails-1.2.1. I got up to the part where I was to switch from hsqldb to mysql. I think I've deleted every reference to hsqldb in the DataSource.groovy file, but I get an exception and the stack trace shows it's still using hsqldb. I can navigate to the home page. But when I click on one of the links, I get a stack trace: java.sql.SQLException: Table not found in statement [select this_.id as id0_0_, this_.version as version0_0_, this_.name as name0_0_, this_.variant as variant0_0_ from domainObject this_ limit ?] at org.hsqldb.jdbc.Util.throwError(Unknown Source) at org.hsqldb.jdbc.jdbcPreparedStatement.<init>(Unknown Source) at org.hsqldb.jdbc.jdbcConnection.prepareStatement(Unknown Source) at dfpc2.domainObjectController$_closure2.doCall(script1269434425504953491149.groovy:13) at dfpc2.domainObjectController$_closure2.doCall(script1269434425504953491149.groovy) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) My mysql database shows no tables created. (I don't think groovy's connected to mysql yet.) Things I've checked: mysql-connector-java-5.1.6.jar is in lib directory. I've tried grails clean I tried putting the dataSource info in the development environment (I haven't graduated to test or prod yet), but it seemed to make no difference. The stdout shows I'm using development env. I've googled for solutions, but the only solution I've found is when people don't change the test or production environments.

• Memcache error: Failed reading line from stream (0) Array

  I get some variation of the following error when our server gets put under any significant load. I've Googled for hours about it and tried everything (including upgrading to the latest versions and clean installs). I've read all the posts about it here on SA, but can't figure it out. A lot of people are having the same problem, but no one seems to have a definitive answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Zend_Session_Exception' with message 'Zend_Session::start() - /var/www/trunk/library/Zend/Cache/Backend/Memcached.php(Line:180): Error #8 Memcache::get() [memcache.get]: Server localhost (tcp 11211) failed with: Failed reading line from stream (0) Array We have a copy of our production environment for testing and everything works great until we start load-testing. I think the biggest object stored is about 170KB, but it will probably be about 500KB when all is said and done (well below the 1MB limit). Just FYI: Memcache gets hit about 10-20 times per page load. Here's the memcached settings: PORT="11211" USER="memcached" MAXCONN="1024" CACHESIZE="64" OPTIONS="" I'm running Memcache 1.4.5 with version 2.2.6 of the PHP-memcache module.   I'm new in Haskell and try to solve 3 problem from http://projecteuler.net/. The prime factors of 13195 are 5, 7, 13 and 29. What is the largest prime factor of the number 600851475143 ? • NUnit doesn't work well with Assert.AreEqual

  Hi! I'm new to unit-testing and NUit in particular. I'm just typing some examples from the book which refers to Java and JUnit. But I'm using C# instead. The problem is: I've got a class with overriden methods such as Equals() and GetHashCode(), but when I am trying to compare two objects of this class with Assert.AreEqual() my code is not called, so I get an exception. Assert.True(MyClass.Equals(MyClass2)) does work well. But I don't wanna use this construction instead of Assert.AreEqual(). Where the problem can be? • C# DynamicPDF Merging causing "Index out of bounds" error

  Greetings, We use DynamicPDF to merge multiple PDF documents stored in a MSSQL database. The vast majority of times it works wonderfully, but occasionally one of these documents will fail to merge generating the exception message "Index was outside the bounds of the array." I think I have isolated the problem to PDF files that are greater than 8.5 x 11.0. Does anyone know if this is a known issue with DynamicPDF? The merging code is posted here. • What is the procedure for debugging a production-only error?

  Let me say upfront that I'm so ignorant on this topic that I don't even know whether this question has objective answers or not. If it ends up being "not," I'll delete or vote to close the post. Here's the scenario: I just wrote a little web service. It works on my machine. It works on my team lead's machine. It works, as far as I can tell, on every machine except for the production server. The exception that the production server spits out upon failure originates from a third-party JAR file, and is skimpy on information. I search the web for hours, but don't come up with anything useful. So what's the procedure for tracking down an issue that occurs only on production machines? Is there a standard methodology, or perhaps category/family of tools, for this? The error that inspired this question has already been fixed, but that was due more to good fortune than a solid approach to debugging. I'm asking this question for future reference. • Problem with loading a PNG image in JApplet.

  Hi there, I'm trying to load a PNG image from JAR file when running JApplet. The file is, I think, loaded properly - there are no errors. However it is not displayed. img.png is placed in the same directory as MainClass.java file. Here is the code: InputStream imageURL = this.getClass().getResourceAsStream("img.png" ); byte[] bytes = null; try {bytes = new byte[imageURL.available()]; System.out.println(imageURL.available()); imageURL.read(bytes);} catch(Exception e) {System.out.println("bleah");} Image image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(bytes); Image imageScaled = me.getScaledInstance( 100, 150, Image.SCALE_SMOOTH ); jLabel6 = new javax.swing.JLabel( new ImageIcon( imageScaled) ); and the HTML exerpt: <APPLET codebase="classes" code="myapplet/MainClass.class" archive ="LittleApplet.jar" width=700 height=500> The image, as I wrote, is probably read, but not displayed in JLabel.
