  • Limit to area that receives touch events

    Is there's a bounding box on an application that receives touch events? I created a few sample round rect buttons and placed them in different places in my view. The ones in the center of the view receive touch events (and show the highlighted blue color) but if I place a button near the edges of the view, only parts of them are clickable in the simulator. Is this because of Apples style guidelines? I placed a button exactly where a UITabNavigationItem would appear and only the bottom half of it is clickable.

  • Can I detect if higher subview has been touched?

    I've got a big UIView that responds to touches, and it's covered with lots of little UIViews that respond differently to touches. Is it possible to touch anywhere on screen and slide around, and have each view know if it's being touched? For example, I put my finger down on the upper left and slide toward the lower right. The touchesBegan/Moved is collected by the baseView. As I pass over itemView1, itemView2, and itemView3, control passes to them. If I lift my finger while over itemView2, it performs itemView2's touchesEnded method. If I lift my finger over none of the items, it performs baseView's touchesEnded. At the moment, if I touch down on baseView, touchEnded is always baseView and the higher itemViews are ignored. Any ideas?

  • How to prevent a modal UIImagePickerController from rotating?

    I have an app that fully support rotation. I am modally adding a UIImagePickerController for which there is no support for UIInterfaceOrientationLandscape and I cannot get the controller to stay in portrait. In other words, I need to disable rotation for the UIImagePickerController so it stays in portrait, without removing rotation for the rest of my app. this seems basic, but I can't seem to locate it. How can I prevent this rotation? UPDATE As suggested, I tried subclassing with the following code: @interface UAImagePickerController : UIImagePickerController { } @end @implementation UAImagePickerController - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)toInterfaceOrientation { return UIDeviceOrientationIsPortrait(toInterfaceOrientation); } @end The line is not being hit at all with a breakpoint… i think there must be something funky about the UIImagePickerView

  • MFMailComposerViewController doesn't always display attachments

    I'm attaching a few files to an email to export from the application I've written, namely a .pdf and a .png. I create these by rendering some view to a context and creating an image and a pdf. I can validate that the files are created properly (I can confirm this by looking in my apps sandbox from Finder, and also by sending the email. I receive the files correctly.) The problem I'm getting is that larger files don't have a preview generated for them within the MFMailComposerViewController view (I simply get a blue icon with a question mark). Is there a limitation on file sizes that can be attached in order for preview to function correctly? With small files it works as expected, but if I try and attach a pdf with the following properties: Pages: 1 Dimensions: 2414 x 1452 Size: 307 KB the file is generated correctly, but displays the question mark icon. If there is no way around that, can I remove the attachment preview altogether? Many thanks, Bryn

  • Can I use the whatthetrend.com API to get daily and weekly twitter trends?

    The twitter API allows me to receive daily trends and weekly trends (in addition to current trends, of course) as either JSON or XML. Is there an equivalent with the whatthetrend.com API? I don't see a method/parameter at first glance but I wanted to see if anyone out there knew a way... http://api.whatthetrend.com/api There's a method to lookup trend definition by keyword so I guess I could use that based off the Twitter API but I'd rather just load all the data at once rather than have to remotely access the API every time I want to look up a definition.     Hi, I have to manage XML documents and Strings in my app. In terms of efficiency and memory usage, will a collection like ArrayList be much more expensive than String[]? Also, I could store the content as a regular String or XML. Is working with XML also more expensive? (When I say expensive, I am referring to the use of system resources.)     I've got a UITableViewDataSource that I'm using for two different UITableViews. In one of the table views, I want to enable swipe-to-delete, so I've implemented tableView:commitEditingStyle:forRowAtIndexPath, and it works as expected. However, in another table, I want to disable that feature. I've got it working by making two UITableViewDataSource classes, one subclassing the other, and I only implement tableView:commitEditingStyle:forRowAtIndexPath in the subclass. I call them RecipientModel and RecipientModelEditable. I'm wondering if there's a better way.

  • Google Drive Update keeps throwing an error when I try to save a thumbnail

    The Base64 string checks out fine. I was able to export it to another website and download it again as my image. When I try to do an update using the Drive Javascript api, it just keeps returning this error: Invalidvaluefor:Notavalidbase64bytestring I also true making the string URL safe. Per this page https://google-api-client-libraries.appspot.com/documentation/drive/v2/python/latest/drive_v2.files.html Am I doing something wrong here, the documentation says send Base64, the string is valid and, the string is intact throughout the process, but Google will not accept it?     Hello, Can anyone explain me how can I detect a selection in a table view Header view like in tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath: ? It would be very useful for me. I've defined the header as UITableCellView so I could attach a UISwitch as an accessory view, and it worked great but now I can't detect the changes made in the switch. Any suggestions?

  • setting target for disclosure button on subclassed UITableViewCell

    I've created a subclass of UITableViewCell to create some custom appearance and UI functionality ('swipe to reveal delete button'). Some of the cells are disclosure/detail disclosure type, and have a UIButtonTypeDetailDisclosure etc added manually. I cannot use the table view controllers' UITableViewCellAccessory for row at index path method. The question is, how do I set the target of these manually added buttons so that they correctly send the didSelectRowAtIndexPath to their table view controller?

  • android get contact phone number

    hi, im trying to get a contacts name and phone number from the contacts list. im using: contactname = Curser.getString(Curser.getColumnIndex(Contacts.DISPLAY_NAME)); to get their name and it works fine. But using: contactphone = Curser.getString(Curser.getColumnIndex(ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Phone.NUMBER)); causes no warnings or errors and builds fine, yet force closes in both the emulator (2.1) and my htc desire (nexus one 2.2 rom/htc desire 2.1 rom). Any ideas how to fix it? oh and contactname and contactphone are both strings thanks, ng93

    Hi, I'm using a UIImageView as a background-image and placed multiple UIButtons on it. Now I want to move the UIImageView (with all the buttons on it) out of sight with a smooth animation. I couldn't find a container or grouping element in IB, so is there a way to move all the Views at once? Thank you in advance and sorry for my english!

  • use startActivityForResult from non-activity

    Hi, I have MainActivity which is an Activity and other class(which is a simple java class), we`ll call it "SimpleClass". now i want to run from that class the command startActivityForResult. now i though that i could pass that class(SimpleClass), only MainActivity's context, problem is that, u cant run context.startActivityForResult(...); so the only way making SimpleClass to use 'startActivityForResult; is to pass the reference of MainActivity as an Activity variable to the SimpleClass something like that: inside the MainActivity class i create the instance of SimpleClass this way: SimpleClass simpleClass=new SimpleClass(MainActivity.this); now this is how SimpleClass looks like: public Class SimpleClass { Activity myMainActivity; public SimpleClass(Activity mainActivity) { super(); this.myMainActivity=mainActivity; } .... } public void someMethod(...) { myMainActivity.startActivityForResult(...); } now its working, but isnt a proper way of doing this? I`am afraid i could have some memory leaks in the future. thanks. ray.
