• Hosting cross-domain Silverlight applications (XAP)

  In the Silverlight world, there are two types of cross-domain things that may leave some banging their head against a wall for a while. The first involves making network-based calls (WebClient, HttpWebRequest, etc) to services hosted on a domain other than the one that is the site of origin for the XAP. • I upgraded my ubuntu server from 13.04 to 13.10 Bugs I faced

  On upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10 my system is hanged. So after waiting for 30 min. I tried to restart. Some file are corrupted. I inserted my 13.04 disk and started in rescue mode. Finally My system started Then, I upgraded some apps again. Now my system upgraded to 13.10. Finally Done. But, Now the bugs raised. On my start key I got only my online services. No other applications, recently used, music, video icons are not showing. I am facing huge problem. I am unable to see my application what i installed. I checked in unity tweak tool all are fine. So, I ask any one to solve this issue.

• How to change the terminal to SCO compliant

  I have a server in which SCO 5.x is installed. I have several thin clients which were supplied from our head office. Those thin clients have linux pre-installed in them. When we tried to connect to our SCO server, we have found out that the thin client does not support SCO terminal type. So the program (Which is written in Oracle forms) is not working correctly. Lots of function keys stopped working and screen also not getting refreshed correctly. Hence we decided to use Ubuntu Live USB keys in thin clients. Now the problem is how can we change the terminal type to SCO in ubuntu ? Means I want it in the text terminal (Alt+Ctrl+F1,F2...) (Not in xterm...graphical terminal emulators). Does ubuntu support SCO terminal type ?

• OpenGL 2D Rasterization Sub-Pixel Translations

  I have a tile based 2D engine where the projection matrix is an orthographic view of the world without any scaling applied. Thus: one pixel texture is drawn on the screen in the same size. That all works well and looks nice but if the camera makes a sub-pixel movement small lines appear between the tiles. I can tell you in advance what does not fix the problem: GL_NEAREST texture interpolation GL_CLAMP_TO_EDGE What does “fix” the problem is anchoring the camera to the nearest pixel instead of doing a sub-pixel translation. I can live with that, but the camera movement becomes jerky. Any ideas how to fix that problem without resorting to the rounding trick I do currently?

  After successfully installing Xubuntu 12.04.1 on my laptop, I decided to install Unity. That went OK but then I realized there was no themes. So then I installed the themes and artwork, and got a really bad surprise. My lightDM greeter was still Xubuntu like I wanted but the buttons where you choose the user are really tall and I have a purple computer as the icon above my computer name. How do I get back to the original Xubuntu configuration or edit the CSS while keeping Unity? I know where all of the files are but don't know which file to edit or which CSS property to modify.   I was told once that the best place to work as a developer is a company where the software you write is what makes the company money, whether it be software production or software services like consulting. This is opposed to a company where the software you write is just to support some other part of the business that makes the money, like manufacturing or finance. I know there are always exceptions, but in general, are employees treated better if they are on the front lines of profit generation, as opposed to being just another cost center? cost center (n.) - A cost center is part of an organization that does not produce direct profit and adds to the cost of running a company. Students interested in Operating Systems can study MINIX and PintOS, write shell scripts or study POSIX system calls. What would be the best course of action in order to practice Server Administration? Is there any such software/resource available, teaching you such skills with small lessons, or it is totally up to you? I've practiced live FreeBSD server administration and management of VMs (CentOS, Gentoo, Debian) under VirtualBox, but I always feel that this isn't enough and I must push myself harder. • Google Keyword Competition rating

  Google offers a Keyword application that allows me to see the number of time a particular query has been made in Google. There is a column in the results named "Competition" (Actually its Concurrence in French, I'm just translating). Its a rating from 0 to 1, as in percentage. What indicator is that? EDIT * Is this something useful I should rely on? I'm not sure about how to interpret this data. Should I go for less competitive keywords with a lower number of searches or not worry about it and go for the highly searched keywords anyway? Is 50% considered high? what about 75% ? I have a very niche market that sell expensive offline services, so the very long tail is my goal (I assume). If you didn't already figured out, I'm very new to SEO =)

• failing to boot after ''succesfully'' restoring from deja dup backup

  Before upgrading to 12.04, I completely backed up 11.10 oneiric with deja-dup. In 12.04 I had major nvidia-related problems, so I decided to roll back to 11.10. I tried to restore from the backup and at first failed several times with "an uknown error occured". I reformated my hard drive, installed a fresh copy of 11.10 on the hard drive, and tried the restore again, with no success. I then booted from a live usb and ran the restore again after mounting the file system. I chose the restore location to be "file system" and the restore completed successfully, or so it said. After restarting my PC, all I got was a 'no operating system' error. I remounted my partition chrooted and installed the kernel. I am working now but my question concerns the restore. Why didn't the restore worked? I'm hoping someone has thought of something that I have not.

• How to perform a detailed and quick 3D performance test

  I am wondering how to quickly test performance of my 3D graphics. Since glxgears is not benchmark what should I use. Also glxgears sometimes stuck at 60FPS, you cannot even compare before/after driver update (e.g. adding xorg-edgers PPA). Even glxgears doesn't really work out of box. One possibility is screensavers, but you can't see FPS. I am also not willing to install 600MB nexuiz, specially if I am running on Live-CD. Other 3D games are also very big... Unigine tests are too demanding for opensource drivers (problems with too low OpenGL and probably texture compression (S3TC...)). I would also like to test OpenGL 2.x extentions.   If your head is dizzy with the myriad VS services and APIs, from EnvDTE to Shell.Interop, this should clarify a couple things. First a bit of background: APIs on EnvDTE (DTE for short, since that’s the entry point service you request from the environment) was originally an API intended to be used by macros. It’s also called the automation API. Most of the time, this is a simplified API that is easier to work with, but which doesn’t expose 100% of what VS is capable of doing. It’s also kind of the “rookie” way of doing VS extensibility (VSX for short), since most hardcore VSX devs sooner or later realize that they need to make the leap to the “serious” APIs. The “real” VSX APIs virtually always start with IVs, make heavy use of uint, ref/out parameters and HResults.
