• Domain validates but won't save

  I have the following setup. Class, say, Car that has a CarPart (belongsTo=[car:Car]). When I'm creating a Car I also want to create som default CarParts, so I do def car = new Car(bla bla bla) def part = new CarPart(car:car) Now, when I do car.validate() or part.validate() it seems fine.   Hi friends, I'm a newbie drupal... I'm working on my first Drupal project. I need to make an events page for some conferences. I create event content type, and creating fields like date-place-title-etc with CCK. There are also speakers, can be up to 20. each speaker has photo-namesurname-position. same speaker can be added to more than 1 event. So it is silly to create 60 fields (photo-name-position) for 20 speakers at event adding page. and expecting admin to fill all for an event adding action. there must be a way to create speakers additionally, and listing them at event adding page with checkboxes. and admin just select the speakers from the list, can be 1 or 20 speaker. how can create such thing? in what type should I create these speakers, so i can list them in event adding page for admin to select as many as he wants. • Calling a WPF Appliaction and modify exposed properties?

  I have a WPF Keyboard Application, it is developed in such a way that an application could call it and modify its properties to adapt the Keyboard to do what it needs to. Right now I have a file *.Keys.Set which tells the appliaction (on open) to style itself according to that new style. I know this file could be passed as a command line argument into the appliaction. That would not be a problem. My concern is, is thier a way via a managed environment to change the properties of the executable as long as they are exposed properly, an example: 'Creates a new instance of the Keyboard Appliaction Dim e_key as new WpfAppliaction("C:\egt\components\keyboard.exe") 'Sets the style path e_key.SetStylePath("c:\users\joe\apps\me\default.keys.set") e_key.Refresh() 'Applies the style e_key.HideMenu() 'Hides the menu e_key.ShowDeck("PIN") 'Shows the custom "deck" of keyboard keys the developer 'Created in the style appliaction. It seems like it might be possible because (name of executable).application shows all the exposed functions, properties, and values. I just have never done this before. • Injecting the application TransactionManager into a JPA EntityListener

  I want to use the JPA EntityListener to support spring security ACLs. On @PostPersist events, I create a permission corresponding to the persisted entity. I need this operation to participate to the current Transaction. For this to happen I need to have a reference to the application TransactionManager in the EntityListener. The problem is, Spring can't manage the EntityListener as it is created automatically when EntityManagerFactory is instantiated. And in a classic Spring app, the EntityManagerFactory is itself created during the TransactioManager instantiation. <bean id="transactionManager" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.JpaTransactionManager"> <property name="entityManagerFactory" ref="entityManagerFactory" /> </bean> So I have no way to inject the TransactionManager with the constructor, as it is not yet instantiated. Making the EntityManager a @Component create another instance of the EntityManager. Implementing InitiliazingBean and using afterPropertySet() doesn't work as it's not a Spring managed bean. Any idea would be helpful as I'm stuck and out of ideas.

• jQuery ajax only works first time

  I have a table of data that on a button click certain values are saved to the database, while other values are retrieved. I need the process to be continuous, but I can only get it to work the first time. At first I was using .ajax() and .replaceWith() to rewrite the entire table, but because this overwrites the DOM it was losing events associated with the table. I cannot use .live() because I'm using stopPropagation() and .live() doesn't support it due to event bubbling. I was able to essentially re-bind the click event onto the table within the .ajax() callback, but a second call to the button click event did nothing. I changed the code to use .get() for the ajax and .html() to put the results in the table (the server-side code now returns the complete table sans the <table> tags). I no longer have to rebind the click event to the table, but subsequent clicks to the button still do nothing. Finally, I changed it to .load(), but with the same (non-) results. By "do nothing" I mean while the ajax call is returning the new HTML as expected, it's not being applied to the table. I'm sure it has something to do with altering the DOM, but I thought since I'm only overwriting the table contents and not the table object itself, it should work. Obviously I'm missing something; what is it?   I have a Popup that is shown when a user clicks on a button. I would like to hide the popup when any of the following events occur: The user clicks somewhere else in the application. (The background panel for example) The user minimizes the application. The JPopupMenu has this behavior, but I need more than just JMenuItems. • Is NFS capable of preserving order of operations?

  I have a diskless host 'A', that has a directory NFS mounted on server 'B'. A process on A writes to two files F1 and F2 in that directory, and a process on B monitors these files for changes. Assume that B polls for changes faster than A is expected to make them. Process A seeks the head of the files, writes data, and flushes. Process B seeks the head of the files and does reads. Are there any guarantees about how the order of the changes performed by A will be detected at B? Specifically, if A alternately writes to one file, and then the other, is it reasonable to expect that B will notice alternating changes to F1 and F2? Or could B conceivably detect a series of changes on F1 and then a series on F2? I know there are a lot of assumptions embedded in the question. For instance, I am virtually certain that, even operating on just one file, if A performs 100 operations on the file, B may see a smaller number of changes that give the same result, due to NFS caching some of the actions on A before they are communicated to B. And of course there would be issues with concurrent file access even if NFS weren't involved and both the reading and the writing process were running on the same real file system. The reason I'm even putting the question up here is that it seems like most of the time, the setup described above does detect the changes at B in the same order they are made at A, but that occasionally some events come through in transposed order. So, is it worth trying to make this work? Is there some way to tune NFS to make it work, perhaps cache settings or something? Or is fine-grained behavior like this just too much expect from NFS?

• c# wpf command pattern

  I have a wpf gui which displays a list of information in separate window and in a separate thread from the main application. As the user performs actions in the main window the side window is updated. (For example if you clicked page down in the main window a listbox in the side window would page down). Right now the architecture for this application feels very messy and I'm sure there is a cleaner way to do it. It looks like this: Main Window contains a singleton SideWindowControl which communicates with an instance of the SideWindowDisplay using events - so, for example, the pagedown button would work like: 1) the event handler of the button on the main window calls SideWindowControl.PageDown() 2) in the PageDown() function a event is created and thrown. 3) finally the gui, ShowSideWindowDisplay is subscribing to the SideWindowControl.Actions event handles the event and actually scrolls the listbox down - note because it is in a different thread it has to do that by running the command via Dispatcher.Invoke() This just seems like a very messy way to this and there must be a clearer way (The only part that can't change is that the main window and the side window must be on different threads). Perhaps using WPF commands? I'd really appreciate any suggestions!! Thanks

• SWT Browser Drag and Drop

  I'm trying to use drag-n-drop with an embedded SWT Browser, so that my application can drag hyperlinks from the Browser to another Control. I've been able to set up the destination to receive data from an external browser, but the internal does not seem to participate in the drag-n-drop. Any ideas? I would guess that I need something like a selection listener to track when something is grabbed in the browser, or some way to ask the browser what is currently selected, perhaps using javascript. • Flex Tree Properties, Null Reference?

  I am pulling down a large XML file and I have no control over it's structure. I used a custom function to use the tag name to view the tree structure as a flex tree, but then it breaks. I am guessing it has something to do with my other function, one that calls attribute values from the selected node.   This is very frustrating, first lines of programming Powerpoint VBA after a long while .... Please help this is killing me Writing a small sub connecting to an action using name test Sub test() MSGBOX "this is a test " end sub I placed this in a module I just created and it works I copy the same test in named as a module and it does not work any more .... I'm trying to make PPT connect to events to do things on a per slide basis ..... using google.... this worked a few times ... but now nothing works any more. The simple test above fails since I renamed the module. As I further change the second routine to test1() ipv test None of the macros can be executed any more (module1 NOT CHNANGED) Module NAME..... contains the same code, except test1() ipv test. ... now all macro processing stops the color of text changes (as is clicked on it) but nothing gets obviously executed. Or is there an even better pattern? Update: Note that I don't need to log ALL method calls. I only want to log a few (rare) events that may or may not occur within my method.

• Looking for: nosql (redis/mongodb) based event logging for Django

  I'm looking for a flexible event logging platform to store both pre-defined (username, ip address) and non-pre-defined (can be generated as needed by any piece of code) events for Django. I'm currently doing some of this with log files, but it ends up requiring various analysis scripts and ends up in a DB anyway, so I'm considering throwing it immediately into a nosql store such as MongoDB or Redis. The idea is to be easily able to query, for example, which ip address the user most commonly comes from, whether the user has ever performed some action, lookup the outcome for a specific event, etc. Is there something that already does this? If not, I'm thinking of this: The "event" is a dictionary attached to the request object. Middleware fills in various pieces (username, ip, sql timing), code fills in the rest as needed. After the request is served a post-request hook drops the event into mongodb/redis, normalizing various fields (eg. incrementing the username:ip address counter) and dropping the rest in as is. Words of wisdom / pointers to code that does some/all of this would be appreciated.

• Anyone Experiencing Slow Builds With VS2010?

  Hi, We've recently upgraded to the final release of VS2010 and are experiencing very slow build times compared to the same code under 2008. I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same so I can work out whether it's just our environment or not? A few details: Using VS2010 Ultimate on Windows 7 with fairly beefy machines, talking to TFS 2010. The solution has been upgraded from VS2008 but still builds against .NET 3.5 and ASP.NET MVC 1.0. It doesn't seem to be the compilation itself taking long but something else in the build process. This is because even projects that are up to date and don't need compiling are taking a few seconds or so to process. It's not due to an Visual Studio addin because a couple guys in the team haven't installed any. The first build after loading VS2010 is pretty quick, then they seem to slow down over time. For example on of the projects in my solution just took 00:00:00.08 to process after a restart. (The project was up to date and didn't need compiling) I then immediately hit rebuild and it jumps to 00:00:01.33. We're also experiencing the problem with another solution that uses .NET 4.0 that was building perfectly fine under VS2010 RC. There are no build events or anything like that I can blame, just straightforward assembly builds. The IDE is not very responsive during the slow builds. Anyone else has similar problems? Update: It looks like the resolving assembly references is taking a long time. Looking at the MSBuild diagnostic output or the example above the first build has 30ms for ResolveAssemblyReferences, the second build has 800ms. Subsequent builds seem to be taking longer copying stuff around, e.g. CopyFilesToOutputDirectory jumps from 1ms to 27ms.

• Where to place interactive objects in JavaScript?

  I'm creating a web based application (i.e. JavaScript with jQuery and lots of SVG) where the user interacts with "objects" on the screen (think of DIVs that can be draged around, resized and connected by arraows - like a vector drawing programm or a graphical programming language). As each "object" contains individual information but is allways belonging to a "class" of elements it's obvious that this application should be programmed by using an OOP approach. But where do I store the "objects" best? Should I create a global structure ("registry") with all (JS native) objects and tell them "draw yourself on the DOM"? Or should I avoid such a structure and think of the (relevant) DOM nodes as my objects and attach the relevant data as .data() to them? The first approach is very MVC - but I guess the attachment of all the event handlers will be non trivial. The second approach will handle the events in a trivial way and it doesn't create a duplicate structure, but I guess the usual OO stuff (like methods) will be more complex. What do you recomend? I think the answer will be JavaScript and SVG specific as "usual" programming languages don't have such a highly organized output "canvas".

• Determine asymmetric latencies in a network

  Imagine you have many clustered servers, across many hosts, in a heterogeneous network environment, such that the connections between servers may have wildly varying latencies and bandwidth. You want to build a map of the connections between servers my transferring data between them. Of course, this map may become stale over time as the network topology changes - but lets ignore those complexities for now and assume the network is relatively static. Given the latencies between nodes in this host graph, calculating the bandwidth is a relative simply timing exercise. I'm having more difficulty with the latencies - however. To get round-trip time, it is a simple matter of timing a return-trip ping from the local host to a remote host - both timing events (start, stop) occur on the local host. What if I want one-way times under the assumption that the latency is not equal in both directions? Assuming that the clocks on the various hosts are not precisely synchronized (at least that their error is of the the same magnitude as the latencies involved) - how can I calculate the one-way latency? In a related question - is this asymmetric latency (where a link is quicker in direction than the other) common in practice? For what reasons/hardware configurations? Certainly I'm aware of asymmetric bandwidth scenarios, especially on last-mile consumer links such as DSL and Cable, but I'm not so sure about latency. Added: After considering the comment below, the second portion of the question is probably better off on serverfault.

• .NET - Unable to get values from Value property of HtmlInputHidden

  I have a custom control that inherits from .NET's CompositeControl class. This control overrides the CreateChildControls in order to build its child controls dynamically. I need the page to post back after a couple different javascript events occur on the client side. In order to accomplish this, I create two hidden controls on the page so I can set their values with javascript, submit the page, and read the values out on server side. Here's is the code I use to create these two hiddens: Protected Overrides Sub CreateChildControls() hdEventName = New HiddenField() Controls.Add(hdEventName) hdEventName.ID = "hdEventName" hdEventArgs = New HiddenField() Controls.Add(hdEventArgs) hdEventArgs.ID = "hdEventValue" ' other controls ' ... End Sub When a javascript event occurs I set the value attribute of the two hiddens and submit the page, like so: hdEventName.value = 'EventName'; hdEventArgs.value = 'arg1,arg2'; document.forms[0].submit(); In the OnLoad method of my control, I attempt to check the Value property of the hdEventName and hdEventArgs controls, but it is always empty. However, Page.Request.Form(hdEventName.UniqueID) and Page.Request.Form(hdEventArgs.UniqueID) return correct values. The actual HTML in the markup also shows correct values after the page posts back. Why is the Value property of the HtmlInputHiddens disconnected from the actual value that appears on the client?

  Good day, I want to set click event on every anchor element in my div container. Here is an example what I want to do: ---HTML--- <div id="my-container"> <a href="page1.html">page1</a> <a href="page2.html">page2</a> <a href="page3.html">page3</a> </div> ---- jQuery ---- $("#my-container a").click(function() { var link = $(this).attr("href"); $("#my-container").load(link); }); What I want to do is to let me handle loading event of href clicks and load it to the same container. And this is must done without id, class attributes which aren't available for that hrefs. The problem is in this: $("#my-container a"). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks UPDATE People doesn't seem to get right what I wanted to ask. I repeat myself again. $("#my-container a") <---- doesn't add click events on href anchors. So how I can set click event?

• 1.8.x Ruby on Rails RESTful nested admin page and form_for problems

  So I am creating a website that I want to have an admin directory in rails 1.8.x and I'm struggling a bit to get the form_for to link to the right controller. I am trying to be RESTful. What I basically want is an admin page that has a summary of actions which can then administer sub models such as: /admin (a summary of events) /admin/sales (edit sales on the site) /admin/sales/0 (the normal RESTful stuff) I can't use namespaces since they were introduced in Rails 2.0 (production site that I don't want to mess with updating rails and all that). Anyway, what I have in the routes.rb is: map.resource :admin do |admin| admin.resources :sales end I am using the map.resource as a singleton as recommended by another site. The problem comes in when I try to use the form_for to link to the subresource RESTfully. If i do : form_for(:sales, @sale) it never links to the right controller no matter what I try. I have also tried: form_for [@admin, @sale] do |f| and that doe not work either (I am guessing since admin is a singleton which does not have a model, it's just a placeholder for the admin controller). Am I supposed to add a prefix or something? Or something into the sales controller to specify that it is a subcontroller to admin? Is there an easier way to do this without manually creating a bunch of routes? Thanks for any help.

• jQuery .die isnt killing an attached event?

  Hi I've just started experimenting with .live and .die and having some great results but one thing isn't working. I've been tinkering with firebugs console to try out my written code live to see if i can figure out the reason why .die isn't killing off an attached event. First if i do this //attach ajax submission $('a[href$=edit]').live("click", function(event) { $.get($(this).attr("href"), null, null); return false; }); Then as expected when I click on a link the ajax fires off and my server side code injects a form for inline editing. But sometimes I want to disable this behaviour and also make the link unclickable so I do the following //unbind ajax form creation when we click on a link, then disable its semantic behaviour $('a[href$=edit]').die("click").click( function(){ return false; } ); which works but if then try to remove this and restore that ajax goodness with the code below it doesn't work, Instead the link remains unclickable. I cant figure out why? • How can I read a continuously updating log file in Perl?

  I have a application generating logs in every 5 sec. The logs are in below format. 11:13:49.250,interface,0,RX,0 11:13:49.250,interface,0,TX,0 11:13:49.250,interface,1,close,0 11:13:49.250,interface,4,error,593 11:13:49.250,interface,4,idle,2994215 and so on for other interfaces... I am working to convert these into below CSV format: Time,interface.RX,interface.TX,interface.close.... 11:13:49,0,0,0,.... Simple as of now but the problem is, I have to get the data in CSV format online, i.e as soon the log file updated the CSV should also be updated. • Stuck on scrolling GtkViewPort to end.

  I am adding one GtkVBox to GtkViewPort. And I am doing scrolling for GtkViewPort based on two Up/Down Buttons. I need to display last item in VBox as we do in Message Chat Screens (Message Chat list displays/adds newest chat message at bottom of the list) i doing exact thing. so for scrolling at the bottom of the GtkViewPort i am doing in the map event call back. GtkAdjustment* adjustment; adjustment = gtk_viewport_get_vadjustment(GTK_VIEWPORT(viewport_list)); gtk_adjustment_set_value(adjustment, gtk_adjustment_get_upper(adjustment)); So this works perfectly fine. it displays newest added widget in Vbox at the end. on some external events I add new Widgets to my VBox and call above code again to display these newly added widgets. on first add it does not scroll at all but on 2nd add to VBOX it scroll upto 2nd last Widget in the list. Why this might be happening. It there another way of scrolling GtkViewPort to the end? Thanks for reading :)
