• Reading UDP Packets

  I am having some trouble dissecting a UDP packet. I am receiving the packets and storing the data and sender-address in variables 'data' and 'addr' with: data,addr = UDPSock.recvfrom(buf) This parses the data as a string, that I am now unable to turn into bytes. I know the structure of the datagram packet which is a total of 28 bytes, and that the data I am trying to get out is in bytes 17:28. I have tried doing this: mybytes = data[16:19] print struct.unpack('>I', mybytes) --> struct.error: unpack str size does not match format And this: response = (0, 0, data[16], data[17], 6) bytes = array('B', response[:-1]) print struct.unpack('>I', bytes) --> TypeError: Type not compatible with array type And this: print "\nData byte 17:", str.encode(data[17]) --> UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xff' in position 0: ordinal not in range(128) And I am not sure what to try next. I am completely new to sockets and byte-conversions in Python, so any advice would be helpful :) Thanks, Thomas

• iPhone development: Best method to allow user to chose search scope

  Hi, I'm developing my first iPhone app and want to allow the user to select the scope of their search in a more complex way than the 'scope buttons' permit. The app is related to wines and I want to the user to be able to select the 'color' (Red, White, Blush, etc.) first, and then select the type/varietal within that category. Right now, I'm using the UISearchBar's scope buttons for the colors and tapping the button opens a view with the selection of colors. This is okay except that once the 'Red' button has been selected, I can't select it a second time to change my choice of type (e.g., change from 'Merlot' to 'Syrrah', etc.) If there's a better way to do this, I'm willing to scrap my method and start from scratch. • How to benchmark apache/nginx setup

  I am planning to setup nginx as reverse proxy. I will have apache to deliver my dynamic content, and nginx will deliver the static content. My configuration i have now is just Apache with fastCGI. This gives me no configuration problems and runs great. After I have set up nginx I want to run some benchmarks to see if I really got some performance increases, else i will switch back. Does anyone know how I can benchmark this type of setup? Or maybe someone did this already and have some canned results, I will be glad to hear them. PS. I know this is more a serverfault type of question, but i have seen numerous posts about apache and nginx so i thought i give it a try

• offsetWidth or CSS expression problem for IE6

  I need to set the width of textboxes as 80% of it's parent. So first I used td input[type="text"] { width: 80%; } But it was not rendering properly if the input is the child of td. So, I used Css expressions td input[type="text"] { width: expression(this.parentNode.offsetWidth*0.8); } It is working as I wanted in every browser except IE 6. Can anybody help me, where I am going wrong? I know that expressions are allowed in IE 6. So, is it the problem of using css expression or something to do offsetWidth. Thanks in advance.

  Hello, is this a valid JQuery usage pattern to : <script type="text/javascript"> $("body").prepend('<input type="hidden" id="error" value="show">'); </script> That is using Jquery to manipulate / insert HTML Tags when the Document has NOT YET been loaded (by not using document.ready for the inserting into the DOM)? (Normally I only use document.ready, but in this case I need to insert some Information into the DOM that then is present, when document.ready is called. This is some kind of "happens-before" relations ship I want to achieve so that I am shure when document.ready is called the inserted Form field is available in the document, as I depend on that information. • Looking for a good database structure to achieve Facebook/SO like notifications

  I want to be able to have notifications on my site, similar to the way SO does it. I have looked for a good table structure to do this, but I cant seem to figure it out. I was thinking something like this. Notifications id, notification_type_id, user_id, type_id Notification Types id, notification_text Where the notification type would relate to either a new post, a new comment, or whatever features I add later down the line... User Id would relate to whoever the notification is for. Type_id and notification type would go hand in hand, so if the notification_type was a new comment, the type_id would be the comment_id to go to. This seems good to me, but i want to be able to notify ALL users when something changes.. like on facebook when you comment on something, you get a notification that someone else has also commented on the same thing after you. I cant seem to figure this out... Help wanted Thanks

• Displaying a message in a dialog box using AJAX, jQuery, and CakePHP

  I have a form, and when users submit this form, it should pass the data along to a function using AJAX. Then, the result of that is displayed to the user in a dialog box. I'm using CakePHP (1.3) and jQuery to try and accomplish this but I feel like I'm running into the ground. The form will eventually be used for uploading images with tags, but for now I just want to see a message pop up in the box..   I'd like to convert a list of record arrays -- dtype is (uint32, float32) -- into a numpy array of dtype np.object: X = np.array(instances, dtype = np.object) where instances is a list of arrays with data type np.dtype([('f0', '<u4'), ('f1', '<f4')]). However, the above statement results in an array whose elements are also of type np.object: X[0] array([(67111L, 1.0), (104242L, 1.0)], dtype=object) Does anybody know why? • bad request error 400 while using python requests.post function

  I'm trying to make a simple post request via the requests library of Python and I get a bad request error (400) while my url is supposedly correct since I can use it to perform a get. I'm very new in REST requests, I read many tutorials and documentation but I guess there are still things I don't get so my error could be basic. Maybe a lack of understanding on the type of url I'm supposed to send via POST. • Postgresql 8.4 reading OID style BLOBs with Hibernate

  I am getting this weird case when querying Postgres 8.4 for some records with Blobs (of type OIDs) with Hibernate. The query does return all right but when my code wants to read the content of the BLOB with the simple code below, it gets 0 bytes back public static byte[] readBlob(Blob blob) throws Exception { InputStream is = null; try { is = blob.getBinaryStream(); return org.apache.commons.io.IOUtils.toByteArray(is); } finally { if (is != null) try { is.close(); } catch(Exception e) {} } } Funny think is that I am getting this behavior only since I've started adding more then one such records to the table.   I'm busy using Google Charts in one of my projects to display data in a table. Everything is working great. Except that I need to see what line a user selected once they click a button. This would obviously be done with Javascript, but I've been struggling for days now to no avail. • Unable to generate tlb file from dll, used tlbexp

  I have a peculiar situation. I am trying to create a type library from a dll. The problem is that the type library gets created but the contents are not there. I get a message typelib filename: could not determine filename when I am trying to view the tlb using oleview. I am using tlbexp to create the tlb file. I have VC++ 2003 Toolkit and VS 2008 C++ Express edition installed and i tried tlbexp from both installs. Neither generated anything inside the tlb. Any help appreciated. Arpan

• Consuming web service from BizTalk with authentication credentials

  I am trying to consume a web service from BizTalk by supplying credentials in the SOAP adapter port. I type in the Web Service URL and then I have the choice of Anonymous, Basic, Digest and NTLM authentication types. How do I supply my username, password and domain?.. when testing with soapUI it works perfectly. The only way I get to supply credentials is Basic or Digest but no matter what I fill in I get a "not authroized" error. The strange thing is that it actually works when I choose the NTLM authentication type but how does it get acces when I have not supplied the credentials. And there is no way that my server has direct access to the service?

• custom button: properties change, button should be redrawn

  Hi I'm developing an Android app. I have class derived from button to represent a special type of button. This special type has some properties (integers) and according to these one or more circles have to be drawn on top of the button. So I overrode the onDraw function, which looks the values up and accordingly draws the circles. But the class has a function to set new values for its properties. So new values are set but the changes are not reflected in the UI. It seems like the onDraw function is not called. When later I click the button or show a pop up message above my interface the onDraw function is called and the button is drawn correctly. So my question: when changing the properties how can I say that the button has to be redrawn? Thanks a lot!

• Doctrine Mssql uniqueidentifier isn't cast as char or nvarchar when retrieved from the database.

  When I retrieve a record from the database which has a column of type "uniqueidentifier", Doctrine fills it with "null" rather than the unique id from the database. Some research and testing has brought this down to a PDO/dblib driver issue. When directly querying via PDO, null is returned in place of the unique id. For reference, http://trac.doctrine-project.org/ticket/1096, has a bit on this, however, it was updated 11 months ago with no comment for resolution. A way around this, as mentioned at http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=24752&edit=1, is to cast the column as a char. However, it doesn't seem Doctrine exposes the native field type outside of generating models which makes it a bit hard to detect uniqueidentifier types and cast them internally when building the sql query. Has anyone found a workaround for this?

• Regex matching into multiple groups per line?

  I'm trying to come up with a regex to be able to parse the following type of strings into groups. <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="[!PageTitle!]" href="[!SiteRoot!]/feed.xml" /> My regular expression is: \[\!(.+)\!\] The problem with this expression is that it seems to pull it all into 1 group: Found 1 match: "[!PageTitle!]" href="[!SiteRoot!]" has 1 group: 1. "PageTitle!]" href="[!SiteRoot" I want dont want the regex to continue...am I missing a boundary? Ideally I want it to find 2 groups, [!PageTitle!] and [!SiteRoot!]
