• PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA1

  To generate a valid pairwise master key for a WPA2 network a router uses the PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA1 algorithm. I understand that the sha1 function is performed 4096 times to derive the PMK, however I have two questions about the process. Excuse the pseudo code. 1) How is the input to the first instance of the SHA1 function formatted? SHA1("network_name"+"network_name_length"+"network_password") Is it formatted in that order, is it the hex value of the network name, length and password or straight ASCII? Then from what I gather the 160 bit digest received is fed straight into another round of hashing without any additional salting. Like this: SHA1("160bit digest from last round of hashing") Rise and repeat. 2) Once this occurs 4096 times 256 bits of the output is used as the pairwise master key. What I don't understand is that if SHA1 produces 160bit output, how does the algorithm arrive at the 256bits required for a key? Thanks for the help.

  Introduction There is nothing more frustrating than a problem that "cannot be reproduced". Logs, configuration files have been analysed but there just isn't enough information to establish the root cause. The issue maybe closed, but you are left with the feeling that the problem will raise its ugly head again in the future. Trouble is, to resolve such issues you need to capture diagnostic data at the exact time the incident occurs. Step forward Fusion Middleware Diagnostic Framework!  Diagnostic Framework monitors WebLogic Managed Servers and delivers "Automatic capture of diagnostic data upon first failure". To quote fromOracle Fusion Middleware Administrator's Guide 11g Release 1 (11.1.1)Chapter 13 Diagnosing Problems "When a critical error occurs ... the Diagnostic Framework automatically collects diagnostics, such as thread dumps, DMS metric dumps, and WebLogic Diagnostics Framework (WLDF) server image dumps ... The data is stored in a file-based repository and is accessible with command-line utilities." In other words the data collected upon first failure - especially the thread and image dumps - provides a snapshot of the system as or immediately after the problem occurs. The table below shows the type of WebLogic Server issues which fall into the scope of Diagnostic Framework How to Configure Diagnostic Framework? Depending on your Fusion Middleware product choice you may not need to do anything! Diagnostic Framework is automatically installed, configured and initiated for any WebLogic Domain which has the Oracle Java Required Files (JRF) template applied. This template is applied by default whenever you configure WebLogic Managed Servers for products such as Portal / Forms / Reports / Discoverer Identity Management ( OID , OAM , OIM etc) WebCenter SOA Check your WebLogic Domain directory structure. If you have an "adr" sub directory under DOMAIN_HOME/servers/<servername>/ then JRF template has been applied and Diagnostic Framework will be in play. Should the "adr" sub directory not exist, review the advice given in My Oracle Support article How to Apply FMW ( EM ) Control and JRF to a WebLogic Domain and Managed Servers [ID 947043.1] If you are working with a standalone WebLogic Server solution and applying Oracle JRF is not acceptable, consider using WLDF - WebLogic Diagnostic Framework. (Fusion Middleware Diagnostic Framework makes use of WLDF under the covers.) How to Upload Diagnostic Framework Incident Data to Oracle Support Some Background Information There are three interfaces to the Repository: Enterprise Manager Cloud Control (Support Workbench) WLST (Command Line) ADRCI (Command Line) The Enterprise Manager Cloud Control does provide a nice GUI interface to search, view and package diagnostic framework incidents. However, this software is not to be confused with Fusion Middleware (EM) Control. Cloud Control (formerly known as Grid Control) is part of the Enterprise Manager media package. EM Cloud Control has it's own install and configuration story. Therefore, for the benefit of those yet to install and play with Cloud Control, I am going to describe how to use the command line tools. Ideally, you would only need to one command line interface, but currently I suggest using both - mainly due to the fact that ADRCI SHOW INCIDENTS does not reveal the description behind the Diagnostic Framework error code. Instructions: Note: WLST and ADRCI are case sensitive when it comes to handling parameter values. If you make a mistake, expect an unfriendly syntax error message. 1) Find the incident Note: The managed server which you are troubleshooting must be up and running. If the managed server is down, ensure the domain's Admin Server is accessible. • On-the-fly lossless image compression

  I have an embedded application where an image scanner sends out a stream of 16-bit pixels that are later assembled to a grayscale image. As I need to both save this data locally and forward it to a network interface, I'd like to compress the data stream to reduce the required storage space and network bandwidth. Is there a simple algorithm that I can use to losslessly compress the pixel data? I first thought of computing the difference between two consecutive pixels and then encoding this difference with a Huffman code. Unfortunately, the pixels are unsigned 16-bit quantities so the difference can be anywhere in the range -65535 .. +65535 which leads to potentially huge codeword lengths. If a few really long codewords occur in a row, I'll run into buffer overflow problems.

• Consuming Web Services requiring Authentication from behind Proxy server

  Hi All, I've seen a number of post about Proxy Authentication, but none that seams to address this problem. I'm building a SharePoint Web Service consuming desktop application, using Java, JAX-WS in NetBeans. I have a working prototype, that can query the server for authentication mode, successfully authenticate and retrieve a list of web site. However, if I run the same app from a network that is behind a proxy server (the proxy does not require authentication), then I'm running into trouble. The normal -dhttp.proxyHost ... settings does not seam to help any. But I have found that by creating a ProxySelector class and setting it as default, I can regain access to the authentication web service, but I still can't retrieve the list of web sites from the SharePoint server. It's almost as if the authentication I provide is going to the proxy rather than the SharePoint server. Anyone have any experience on how to make this work? • Socksifying a Java ServerSocket - how to approach

  I would like to have a Java program running on network A have a ServerSocket living on another network B through a proxy. I have played with a SOCKS5 proxy (which works) but it appears that all the proxy facilities in Java only work with client connections, not with ServerSockets (no constructor taking a Proxy argument). Asking Google gives much hay and few needles. What is the approach I should take to get this running? If a specific client is better than a generic SOCKS or web proxy then fine, but it needs to be Java (that leaves sshd out). Target JVM is preferrably Java 5, and then Java 6.

GCC throws an error saying he doesn't know the type IOEthernetAddress. Is assert.h necessary for my task? It would be great if someone coud give me a working sample. • Consuming SharePoint Web Services fails when behind Proxy server

  Hi All, I've seen a number of post about consuming Web Services from behind a proxy server, but none that seams to address this problem. I'm building a desktop application, using Java, JAX-WS in NetBeans. I have a working prototype, that can query the server for authentication mode, successfully authenticate and retrieve a list of web site. However, if I run the same app from a network that is behind a proxy server (the proxy does not require authentication), then I'm running into trouble. The normal -dhttp.proxyHost ... settings does not seam to help any. But I have found that by creating a ProxySelector class and setting it as default, I can regain access to the authentication web service, but I still can't retrieve the list of web sites from the SharePoint server. Anyone have any experience on how to make this work?   Hi - Receiving recommendations for commercial TCP/IP stack implementation based on FreeBSD or NetBSD. Requirements are similar to a typical desktop PC running a browser, email and streaming voice/video. Which is to say a rich network functionality for a end-host type of device with mature implementation and reasonable performance. BSD derived network stacks are deployed in wide variety of situations for years and hence have mature implementation. It's supposed to run on a proprietary RTOS. Most vendors I found don't advertise if their stack is based on BSD. Any recommendations? -- Vineet

• What's a good way to copy files from a PC to a Windows Mobile device?

  I have a C# application running on a server, and it needs to copy files out to multiple Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. These devices are connected to the network directly via Ethernet-enabled cradles (so they are not connected to a PC via ActiveSync). What different options do I have for doing this? I know RAPI can do this, but I'm not sure if it can copy something directly over the network like this. Also, I know RAPI uses ActiveSync DLLs and thus requires ActiveSync to be installed, and we would prefer to avoid doing this if possible. Is WMI a possibility? Can we use ordinary File.IO if we can somehow get the IP address of each device? Code samples or general knowledge would be most welcome.

• .NET Impersonate and file upload issues

  I have a webpage that allows a user to upload a file to a network share. When I run the webpage locally (within VS 2008) and try to upload the file, it works! However, when I deploy the website to the webserver and try to upload the file through the webpage, it doesn't work! The error being returned to me on the webserver says "Access to the path '\05prd1\emp\test.txt' is denied. So, obviously, this is a permissions issue. The network share is configured to allow full access both to me (NT authentication) and to the NETWORK SERVICE (which is .NET's default account and what we have set in our IIS application pool as the default user for this website). I have tried this with and without impersonation upon the webserver and neither way works, yet both ways work on my local machine (in other words, with and without impersonation works on my local machine). The code that does the file upload is below. • C# MySQL Lost Connection

  Hi. I have C# application and I'm using MySQL database. Everything seems to be fine except one thing. Our computer network is little bit unstable. When I'm trying to execute query and the computer simultaneously loses connection to the mysql server (I'm simulating this situation by unplugging the network cable from computer which is mysql server), the program is trying to do something for long time (tens seconds). I would like to specify something like timeout which ends the query by exception or something similar. I tried to add timeout parameters to connection string but with no effect (I've used ConnectionTimeout and DefaultCommandTimeout). Is there any other way to identify lost connection after few seconds? Thank you Adam P.S. Sorry for my english, I'm not native speaker.

• NAS disk - problem with accessing SAMBA

  Hello I have a NAS disk running on some version of Linux. The disk is located in local network (5 PC running XP or Vista, all connected to Linksys Router). I have problems accessing NAS resources through SAMBA. The 1st issue is that the NAS is not accessible through hostname (even if it is configured), 2nd point is that it is mostly not accessible through IP manner (\IP_OF_NAS). Rest of services (FTP, HTTP access) works flawlessly. I connected the NAS to my home network (only 1 WinXP and Linsys router) and the NAS is working fine - SAMBA access together with hostname recognition works perfectly. I wonder this is an issue with WINS? Could anybody help? Regards

  Since the RBPI (Raspberry Pi) has very low power consumption and very low production price, it means one could build a very big cluster with those. I'm not sure, but a cluster of 100000 RBPI would take little power and little room. Now I think it might not be as powerful as existing supercomputers in terms of FLOPS or others sorts of computing measurements, but could it allow better neuronal network simulation ? I'm not sure if saying "1 CPU = 1 neuron" is a reasonable statement, but it seems valid enough. So does it mean such a cluster would more efficient for neuronal network simulation, since it's far more parallel than other classical clusters ?

  Hello All, I am using IIS 7 on Server 2008. I just tried migrating my app from an older platform - everything works fine, except the email feature. This is my config: < mailSettings > < smtp from="[email protected]" deliveryMethod="Network" > < network host="mail.xyz.com" port="25" userName="[email protected]" password="123" /> < / smtp > < /mailSettings > Whenever I need to send an email I use: SmtpClient smtp = new SmtpClient(); smtp.Send(email); The funny thing is I get absolutely no errors, however the email is never sent. The outbound firewall ruleset allows SMTP traffic. Any idea what I did wrong?
